Chapter 19
(Jason's POV)
It was in the evening when I finished training and went to find the Gym. After asking around, I found the gym pretty easily. Unfortunately, when I did find it the lights were off and there was a sign on the door. "Closed for today. Will reopen tomorrow at noon."
I sighed, a little disappointed. I decided to head back to the center for now and challenge the Gym when it was open. Meema was still at the counter and I walked over to her. She turned and I told her about the Gym being closed.
"Oh, well that's too bad. At least you can challenge it tomorrow. For now, I got the three of us a room for the night."
We made our way up to the rooms and I said, "You didn't answer my question Meema." I heard her stop and I stopped as well, turning to her.
"About what Jason?"
"About Darkrai." I could see the fear on her face and I said, "You know something, don't you?" She silently nodded her head and she continued walking. "Well?"
"Not here, Jason. We'll talk once we're in the room." I followed, getting annoyed that she was dodging my questions again. We entered the room and Janice was already there, sitting on her bed.
"Hey, you're back. I thought you went to the Gym?"
"It's closed," I replied, claiming the top bunk once again. Janice nodded in understanding and said she was going to do some training.
As soon as she left, Meema said, "Alright Jason, go to sleep."
I looked down at her from my bunk and said, "You said we'd talk."
"I did, and we will. Go to sleep first." I groaned in frustration, she was doing it again. Nevertheless I tried my best to fall asleep. I soon found my eyes closing and I quickly fell asleep.
I opened my eyes again and I found myself standing in a room. It was big, about the size of the entire Pokémon Center, and there was green smoke all over the ground. It went up to my ankles and completely covered my feet. I looked around, but there was nothing else here.
"Jason, there you are." I turned around to see Meema in her Celebi form flying over to me.
"Meema? Where are we?"
"We're inside your mind. I said we would talk and now we can." A ring of images appeared around us and I recognized some of them. They were all memories, and I could see a few that showed my battle with that kid.
"That's him," I said, pointing to one of the memories. "I battled him, and he had a Darkrai with him." Another memory showed the Darkrai appearing, and I felt a twinge of pain in my head, remembering the pain from the battle. I looked to Meema and she had the same pained look on her face. "So what can you tell me, Meema?"
She was silent as she watched my memories, and eventually said, "I should have known." She began to fall and I caught her before she touched the ground. "I'm sorry, it's the memories. I can still feel the dark energy."
She regained her ability to fly and I asked, "Meema, please. I need to know more about this kid. Who is he? Why does he have a Darkrai?" I thought about my next question and asked, "Are there others like me?" That question surprised Meema and I could see that she knew something.
"Alright Jason, I'll tell you what I know. To answer your last question: yes, there are other Legendary Pokémon that adopted humans as children. Remember when I gave you my egg?"
I nodded, 'If a Legendary Pokémon deems a human worthy of having a pure heart, then they may choose him or her to be their son or daughter, as a Legendary Pokémon.'
"Well, that's not entirely true. It was true for some, but many Legendary Pokémon would adopt human children for...other reasons." She hesitated for a moment, and she continued. "There were some who adopted human children to continue their legacy. Others adopted them for selfish reasons," she paused, "like me." She turned away from me and began flying away.
"Meema, don't say that."
She suddenly turned around and snapped at me, "I adopted you as my child for two reasons, Jason. The first was because I couldn't let you die like your parents did, and the second was...was because I was lonely." She calmed down and began to fly away from me again. "You don't know what it's like Jason, to be the only one of your species and the only relatives you have are future and past versions of yourself." I walked over to Meema, and I could see she had tears in her eyes.
"I don't consider that selfish." She looked at me and I continued, "I'm glad you chose me. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be alive. I wouldn't have gone on my journey with you and Janice." Meema wiped away her tears and she hugged me.
"Thank you, Jason. Hearing you say that...it makes me feel a lot better." I hugged her back and she flew away. "Alright, as I was saying, this child you've encountered is a child of Darkrai." An image of him appeared and Meema said, "His name is Darren. He's from the Sinnoh region, but he came here to the Johto region only a few months ago. You two share many things, actually."
I looked at her skeptically, but she continued, "He lost his parents before he turned seven. His mother fell into a coma and never woke up. And his father...his father died saving his life." I could hardly believe that someone like him had that kind of past. "Sometime after that, he was adopted by Darkrai and was given an egg."
"Yeah, and that Darkrai is powerful. I got hit with one of his attacks; Dark Void I believe." I looked to my left and I could see the memory of the nightmare I had. Meema watched it with me, and I clenched my fists.
"Meema," I said, almost whispering. She looked at me, and I said, "I want to grow stronger. I want to beat him." I began gritting my teeth as my anger grew, wanting nothing more than a rematch against him.
"Jason, calm yourself. Anger will get you nowhere." I took in a deep breath and let it out. After a while I was calm once again, though I still felt angry.
"What else can you tell me?"
"Darren does have a Darkrai form, like you have a Celebi form, but his is slightly different from a normal Darkrai's appearance." An image appeared showing a Darkrai on the left and Darren on the right. Darren's body began to shift until it was an exact copy of the Darkrai, save for its colors. "Darren's Darkrai form is what is known as a shiny form. His colors are changed, but it doesn't affect anything other than appearance."
"Anything else? Like other Legendary's kids who could come after me?"
Meema shook her head, "We won't know until they make themselves known. For all we know, any of the legendaries from any of the regions could have children that could come after you." I began to think and remembered Fletch.
"Meema, what's Kalos? I thought you told me about every region, but Janice has a Pokémon from that region and I've never heard of it before." Celebi looked surprised and said something under her breath.
"Here, I'll share the information I know with you." She flew up to me and placed her hands on my head. Her eyes began glowing and my mind began processing information. Everything about the Kalos region, from its cities, its cultures, down to its Pokemon was going into my mind. Once it was finished, Meema pulled away and I started to get a headache.
"I'll have to explain more about the region later," Meema said. "Right now, we should rest. You have a big day tomorrow." I suddenly felt tired, even though I still had more questions, and I fell backward as the room turned dark and I fell asleep.
When I woke up it was morning and I groaned, rubbing my head. I opened my eyes and looked around, noticing Typhon was out of his Poke Ball and was sleeping next to me. However as I sat up I realized he was bigger than before, even though he was still a Cyndaquil. I looked down and noticed half of my body was gone, save for a small green body.
I screamed, although it came out as a high pitched "be" sound, which woke up Typhon. He noticed me and I quickly transformed back into my human form. I looked to where Janice was sleeping, and she was starting to wake up.
She looked at me and asked, "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" I replied, acting dumb.
"It was a scream, I think."
I paused, pretending to think, and I shook my head. "Maybe it was a nightmare."
I looked to Typhon and he just went back to sleep. I shrugged, and Janice got out of bed.
"Well, since we're both up I guess we should get ready."
I nodded, "Right. I got a Gym battle at noon."
Next chapter: Jason vs. Whitney. Hope you all stick around for that, as well as R&R, PM, and I'll see you again.
