"Kai, a word."

Kai was walking out of the temple, on his way to meet Mako and Bolin for a "Bro Night" when he was stopped by Tenzin. His stern face terrified Kai as it always does as he makes his way over to Tenzin. "Yes, Master Tenzin?" he says, walking on eggshells. I hope he hasn't heard of my plan to hang out with Jinora...

"Kai, I would like to start by assuaging any fears you might have." Kai sighs and relaxes at this. "I know about your secret picnic with Jinora." The sigh jumps back down his throat and his chest constricts, terrified at what comes next. Tenzin's face is still set like stone. "You know I do not like you." Kai nods. "You know that I do not like your 'relationship' with my daughter." Kai nods. "You also know I love my daughter and will not let anything hurt her." Kai nods again, terrified. Tenzin sighs, setting his hand on Kai's shoulder and relaxing his face. "But what you don't know is that your recent actions haven't been lost on me."

Kai look at him in surprise at this. "Uh, sir?" He cuts the young airbender off with a wave of his hand.

"Kai, I may not completely approve of you or your past. But, I must respect the man you are becoming, and what you have done for my daughter's sake."

"Um, thank you. Sir," Kai adds quickly. "You don't know how much that mea-"

"But I have one condition in allowing you to take my daughter on this picnic," he interrupts. Kai swallows in fear. "If you even try to kiss her, I will have your head. Have fun." With that he left, leaving the boy open-mouthed in fear.

"Kai?" He starts at Jinora's voice, shaking out of his daze. "Mind if I ask you a question?" He nods, still a bit out of sorts from his memory. "Did my dad say something to you about this?"

His heart beats rapidly, pondering what to tell her. Then, he just decides to tell her. "Actually, yeah." She looks up at him suddenly, surprised by this. "The long and short of it was that he doesn't like me, but he's willing to give me a chance. For you." He ducks his head down, unsure of how she's going to react. "Oh, also, that he's going to have my head if I try to kiss you." After a moment of silence, he looks up to see her reaction, only to be caught off guard.

Her face is right next to his, their eyes locked, and Jinora makes the final move. Their lips connect, their eyes close, and the world stops turning around them. Kai is blown away, finally doing what he's wanted to do since he met her. Her lips are so soft. And they're shaking. Is she afraid? Jinora is shaking from the intensity of finally kissing this boy as her hand rests on his chest. He's so strong, and brave...

After a tense, heated moment, Kai pulls back from the kiss, eyes opening to see this girl, this beautiful, smart, funny, kind girl leaning towards him, hand on his chest, eyes half-lidded and lips still pursed and ready for more. Kai leans in, claiming her lips again, already addicted to the feeling of her lips. Almost simultaneously, they open their mouths, their tongues entwining, dueling, battling for supremacy. Suddenly, Kai flinches, pulling back from Jinora, her weight causing the two to fall back, Kai onto his back and Jinora landing on his chest.

"What's wrong?!" Jinora asks, looking up into Kai's face. He's banging his head on the ground, muttering "Stupid!" over and over again. "Kai?"

After a moment, he stops hitting his head against the ground and sighs, casually throwing his arms around Jinora. Jinora finds herself fitting herself into his side, as if she belongs. "It's nothing. I just realized I can kiss my head goodbye as soon as your dad learns of this." Laughing, Jinora leans up, kissing him on the jaw. "What?"

"Simple. He just doesn't hear about it."

Kai looks down at her askance, the implications obvious. "But how are we going to keep this from him? I did my best to keep the fact that I was planning this picnic secret, but he still found out."

Laughing, Jinora explains, "That's because you told my mom about it. As long as we don't tell anyone and keep it between us, as well as keep our stories straight, my dad will never know it even happened."

Kai mulls this over for a moment, a grin slowly finding its way onto his face. "In that case..." he says before leaning down and kissing her again, loving being able to do that.

After another few minutes of that, holding her within his arms the whole time, Jinora pulls away, standing and pulling Kai along with her. Laughing at his confusion, she pulls him into the water, dragging him out into the center. There, she throws her arms around Kai, drawing them both under the water. He figures out her intentions and presses his lips to hers, finishing their almost-kiss from earlier, the water cradling them before they push to the surface, breathing heavily from the combined effort of holding their breath and the intensity of kissing.

Laughing, Kai decides it's time for the coup de grace. "Jinora, there's one last thing I want to show you," he says, before making his way to the waterfall. Jinora, excited by the possibility of there being even more to this place follows along. At the waterfall, Kai waves to her before diving under the water. Following suit, Jinora sees him swimming towards the waterfall, under it even. On the other side, Jinora breaches the water, gasping at the sight before her.
