Hey everyone, I am back with a new chapter for ATTD. I'm sorry if some of you were expecting me to put up a Valentine's Day chapter. Not only did I miss the deadline, I actually did attempt to write one out...aaaand it crashed and burned-horribly. I do have a summary of what was supposed to happen, which you can read below. If you don't want to read it, you can just skip it altogether and go straight to the chapter.
Jason, Janice, and Celebi (disguised) arrive on Route 38. Janice says she cannot wait until they reach Olivine City and she begins daydreaming. Jason senses at least one of her thoughts involve him and, curiosity getting the better of him, looks into her mind. He sees that she is daydreaming about the two of them exploring Olivine City, followed by Jason's Gym battle.
After that, he sees Janice standing at the top of the lighthouse with someone. He sees that it is him, and they act like they are a couple. Embarrassed, and also noticed by Celebi, he pulls out of her mind and tries to clear his head with Pokemon battles against other trainers. After traversing through Routes 38 and 39, the three arrive at Olivine City to discover that the town has been transformed by a St. Valen's Festival.
Jason, having never heard of the holiday, is told by Janice that St. Valen's Day is all about love and romance, how couples spend all day together enjoying each other's company, and that if a couple confesses their love for each other they will be blessed with many years of happiness. Janice, distracted by all the festival has to offer, does not notice Jason's uneasiness. Jason does admit to himself that he likes Janice as more than a friend-and he also knows that Janice feels the same-but he doesn't think she will still have those feelings if he tells her that he is half Celebi.
His Meema senses his distress and they converse telepathically. Jason explains the problem of him being part Pokemon, and she responds by saying if Janice really "likes him", she will accept him, both his human and Pokemon sides. Janice gets Jason to join her in the festivities, and Jason's mind is temporarily relieved of stress. Janice displays some affection towards him: holding onto his arm, resting her head on his shoulder, but never going that far.
Near the end of the day, Janice takes Jason to the lighthouse. Remembering what he saw in Janice's mind, Jason suddenly feels nervous. They use the elevator to go to the very top and then exit to the outside viewing area. They are completely alone, and Janice begins to show more serious affection for Jason.
Jason gathers his courage and then asks if Janice likes him. She says yes, and he asks again, this time adding on "even if I wasn't who you thought I was?" Janice replies with a hesitant yes, and asks what he means. Jason breaks off from her and decides to reveal his secret.
He turns to her and transforms before her eyes, shocking Janice. Janice doesn't know what to think and Jason transforms back hoping to explain. Janice runs away, confused, and Jason is left alone at the lighthouse. Celebi, in her Pokemon form, finds Jason-who is also still in his Pokemon form, and tries to comfort him.
Jason asks her if she can bring them back in time, to before this mess started and she does. Jason finds that they are back on Route 38, but finds out that it is the day after St. Valen's Day, much to the dismay of Janice since she wanted to be there for the festival. Jason says there's always next year, and they decide to continue on to Olivine City.
Also, I do realize this chapter is both short and a bit rushed, but I didn't really feel like writing out every battle. As always, R&R, PM, and Enjoy!
Chapter 26
(Jason's POV)
Before we could get to Olivine City, we had to pass through two Routes: 38 and 39. According to the Poke-Gear, Route 38 was a path that weaved through several trees and led to the Miltank Farm on Route 39. As for said route, it was a downhill path that went through a grassy, breezy plain. "If what the Poke-Gear says is true," I said as we prepared to enter the route, "it should be an easy hike to Olivine City." "I can't wait," Janice said. "I've always wanted to go to Olivine City as a kid, and because I chose to go on this journey I can finally see it with my own eyes!" I looked at Janice and saw she had her eyes closed. I could sense she was daydreaming about the city, but I didn't dare to go any further into her mind-there's no telling what Meema'd do if I did that. We stepped out of the gate and finally arrived at Route 38. Janice and I deeply inhaled the fresh air, and I could hear Janice sigh as she exhaled. As we made our way through, Janice offered to battle some of the trainers that we encountered. There was a sailor who used a Wooper, which Janice countered with a Bulbasaur; another girl who owned a Psyduck and a Flaaffy, after which Janice talked about how she also had a Flaaffy; a bird keeper who had three Doduos, all of which Janice quickly defeated using Mark; and a boy who had a Mr. Mime. Along the way, I also trained my own Pokemon by battling wild Pokemon. Many of the Pokemon I faced were Rattata and Raticate, as well as Magnemite and the occaisional Farfetch'd. I didn't capture anything new, but Ariana and Blaster did get some experience. Blaster also learned how to use Rapid Spin, but seemingly forgot Withdraw. What was really exciting however was that, after battling a Raticate, Ariana momentarily glowed, indicating she was close to evolving. "You're one step closer to becoming an Ariados, Ariana," I said to her after the Raticate gathered what strength it had left to flee. ["Thank you, Jason. I couldn't have made it this far without you."] I rubbed Ariana's head, making her chitter in delight. I stood up and returned her, then went off to find Janice. I found her and Meema waiting for me at the steps that led to Route 39. As we walked up the steps, I told them about Ariana's potential evolution. Meema was happy for Ariana but Janice, apparently still nervous about Bug-types, didn't seem too thrilled. When we finally climbed the steps and arrived at Route 39, the first thing Janice and I saw was a farm with several Miltank grazing beyond a fence. There was also a barn and a house, with a sign that advertised Moomoo Milk. Janice approached the fence, some of the Miltank looking up from their grazing to look back at her. Meema and I soon joined her and a middle-aged man came out of the barn. He noticed us and waved, and after waving back decided to continue moving on. We faced a few more trainers along the way, including a man who possessed real psychic powers, demonstrating this by levitating a Poke Ball and even lifting Janice a few inches off the ground. Janice was able to train Pearl and Fletch a little more-Fletch evolved into a Pokemon called Fletchinder in the middle of a battle-and I also took over a few battles so Blaster could gain some experience. Once the final battle was finished, Olivine was within our reach. We finally arrived and my first instinct was to find the Gym. Meema pointed in the direction of the Gym, which happened to be just down the street. However, we found that someone was standing in front of it like a guard. We walked to ask if the Gym was open, only to find a closed sign on the door. "Sorry," the man explained, "I'm afraid the Gym Leader isn't here at the moment, and she's not taking any battle requests at this time." I was both sad and frustrated, but when Janice asked why she couldn't battle he replied, "Apparently something happened at the lighthouse." He pointed at said building and when we looked there seemed to be no light coming from it at all. "The lighthouse's source of light is a Pokemon called Ampharos, and from what the Gym Leader, told me she said the Pokemon was very sick." "Oh no," Janice said, and I felt the same way. "But that's not all," the man continued, and he pointed further out towards some dark clouds. "There's a storm coming, and without the lighthouse the ships risk losing their way." We left the Gym, heading deeper into town, and I said, "Well, I won't be able to get the Gym Badge until Jasmine comes back, but that may take a while." "Maybe we can do something to help?" Janice suggested. "It's worth a try," Meema chimed in. "Let's go to the lighthouse and see what we can do." Janice and I nodded in agreement, and we made our way to the lighthouse. After entering, we found that the elevator was out of service, and we would have to climb up using the stars and ladders. Before heading up, a sailor informed us that there would be trainers in the rooms above and we thanked him for the info. We split the battles evenly so I could train Blaster some more and Janice could train Pearl and Mark. After finishing the last battle, we climbed up a ladder which led to the very top of the lighthouse. We were surrounded by a long, circular wall of glass with a steel door on one side and in the middle was a girl that appeared to be in her mid-late teens sitting next to and stroking the fur of an Ampharos. She noticed us enter and stood, "Who are you?" I could tell she was worried for the Ampharos just by the look on her face, and Janice replied, "We heard that Ampharos was sick, so we came here to ask if there's anything we could do to help?" She seemed a bit surprised by this, and I added, "It's the least any of us can do. I know it may sound selfish, but I also want to battle the Gym Leader so I can earn my next badge. If helping this Ampharos will get me closer to that goal, I'd be more than willing to help." The girl smiled and nodded, "Thank you, and I'll tell you how you can help. In Cianwood City, there is a wonderful pharmacy that should have what Amphy needs to feel better." She looked down at the Ampharos and knelt down by its side again. "But Cianwood is across the sea, and I can't leave Amphy like this." Meema knelt down next to it, and said, "Its breathing is shallow, we don't have much time." "I'll go," I said. "Hang on," the girl said, standing up. "Do you have any Water-type Pokemon with you?" "Yes, one." "Then you'll probably need this." She handed me a disc, just like the ones Meema gave to me back in Goldenrod City, only it was marked with "HM03". "That contains Surf," the girl said. "I assume you have the other four badges, so that means you'll be able to use this to cross the sea to Cianwood. But you must hurry, especially with that storm on the horizon." I nodded in understanding and the girl walked over to a panel. With a few taps on what seemed to be a keypad, the steel door slid into the floor. "You can use the elevator from here. The door prevents people from using the elevator, so it should work fine now." I thanked her and turned to Janice and Meema. "Janice, can I ask you to stay here?" She nodded and turned to the girl, "I'll help anyway I can." "I'll come with you Jason," Meema said, holding up a Poke Ball. "I've got my own Water-type, so I'll be able to Surf alongside you." I nodded, and we went to the elevator. Once the doors opened I called out, "We'll be back as soon as possible," and got in. After the doors closed, I asked Meema if she really did have a Water-type with her. "I do, along with Chansey and another one I haven't shown you." The doors opened and we made our way to the city's harbor. I pulled out the HM03 and Blaster's Pokeball. I called him out and told him the situation, and he agreed to forget one of his moves to learn Surf. Apparently, HM's worked like a tutorial of sorts and they could only be activated when you placed the appropriate badge into a slot. The badge needed for Surf was the Fog Badge, so after placing it Meema showed me how to operate it. Blaster successfully learned how to use Surf, and in turn it forgot the move Bite. Meema let out her Water-type. It was a large, blue fish-like Pokemon with a pair of small blue fins. It also had yellow markings surrounding its eyes resembling a mask, and other yellow markings on the bottom of its tail. On its back it had what appeared to be an antennae with two yelow orbs. I checked for it's data on the Pokedex: "Lanturn, the Light Pokemon. Lanturn is nicknamed "the deep-sea star" for its illuminated antenna. This Pokémon produces light by causing a chemical reaction between bacteria and its bodily fluids inside the antenna." Meema used the HM on Lanturn, and I made sure we were ready. We were both too big to ride our Pokemon, so we had to hold on to them. "Alright, next stop Cianwood City!"
