Hey everyone! SO SORRY for not posting any updates! Real life takes over and when you have to work and pay bills, it eats up energy and free time to write. I appreciate everyone's patience as they waited for this update. You guys are amazing!
And now, here's the new chapter!
Author's Note: Kudos to the men and women of the NYPD and other authorities of New York City!
Meanwhile, Ted, Marshall, and Lily geared up in winter clothing and headed out to find Dr. Horrible. By then, the snow had worsened, wind blowing harder and temperatures dropping. The trio trudged through a foot deep of snow and it had only been thirty minutes since the snowstorm began.
"This is ridiculous!" Lily shouted as the icy wind whipped through her red hair and snow hit her face. "My face is freezing!"
"Lily, please, this is nothing compared to what I went through in Minnesota," Marshall scoffed.
Ted, wearing snowshoes along with his red boots in addition to a parka and ski pants, slid on a pair of goggles over his eyes so he could see better. He ignored Marshall and Lily's bickering and looked around the area. The city was completely deserted. Some of the shops were lit up and there were people inside, but they appeared to be stuck inside. Some people watched Ted and his friends walking through the snow as if they were crazy. They were the only people walking outside. There were a few cars driving around slowly, being directed by traffic control, but that was it. It never usually snowed like this in the city, so the cars were unprepared and did not have snow tires or chains on. The snow usually hit the ground and melted, turning into slush.
"Ted, can you see where we are?" Lily asked.
"Barely," Ted spoke up, turning to his friends. "I think we're someplace near Times Square, or the Rockefeller Center. Not quite sure."
"Hey!" yelled a voice. "What are you all doing out here?"
Ted, Marshall, and Lily turned to their right and saw an NYPD cop car with an officer in the driver's side, wearing a winter coat and hat.
"The mayor has put a strict order on the city for all residents to be indoors until the storm clears up!" the officer shouted over the wind.
"We're trying to find Robin Scherbatsky," explained Lily as she pulled out Robin's picture. "You know, the lady who was kidnapped by Dr. Horrible? We were with her when Dr. Horrible took her."
"Yes, we know that," said the officer. "The authorities are taking care of that, but I don't care if you were the President of the United States or the Queen of England, we are concerned for your SAFETY. Now get indoors before I have to book all three of you and take you down to the station for refusal to cooperate!"
"-but..." Lily stammered.
"NOW!"
Marshall put his arms around his wife and waved at the officer, signaling that they were complying. They turned around and entered the nearest building with Ted.
"Great!" Lily said glumly. "Now what are we going to do?"
Ted slid his goggles onto his head. "Well, we're going to have to ride out the storm for now, Lily. It's all we can do."
Lily sighed and plopped down on the floor. Marshall opened his backpack and fished around in it until he found a flashlight. He clicked it on and shined it around.
"Wow, pretty nice building," he said with a nod.
Ted turned on his flashlight and began to study the building. He raised his eyebrows at the sight of marble flooring and the glass chandeliers. "You know, this place looks like the one I designed." he added.
Lily walked over to the nearest light switch and flipped it up. The place lit up a warm and dazzling color. The chandeliers above glittered and the marble floors shined flawlessly. Lily stood and gazed in awe at the beauty of the place but Ted was fuming.
"This-this is the place I designed!" he bellowed angrily, stomping around and kicking the snowshoes off his red boots and clomping around the place. "The marble floors, chandeliers...the fountains..."
"Ted, calm yourself down," Marshall said calmly. "There's nothing to get yourself all worked up."
"How can I not?" Ted shouted, pointing behind him. "Someone STOLE my blueprints and then BUILT my project! This could have made me a lot of money, Marshall, possibly could have gotten me a promotion with my firm..."
Lily gave Ted a hug as he buried his face in his hands in frustration...
Dr. Horrible watched Robin as she sobbed in her solitude and isolation. Dr. Horrible forgot that he played a role in Robin's life...he was Barney Stinson. No, wait...he was Billy. His true identity...how could he do this to her?
"You're beginning to feel regret," spoke up a voice. That voice! He could hear it again!
Dr. Horrible turned around and saw Penny standing behind him. He smiled as Penny stood there, looking beautiful as ever, although still a ghost. "Penny..." he whimpered, reaching out to her.
"You're different now, Billy," continued Penny, not changing emotions. "How can you lock away one of the few people who care about you? Robin is a lovely person, but what will she think if she found out her friend Barney is nothing more than the infamous Dr. Horrible?"
Dr. Horrible shook his head in denial. "No...you're lying..." He clenched his fists tightly.
"You're the one lying to yourself," Penny added. "You're living a lie, Billy. You can still give yourself another chance and walk away from all this. End all this now and let Robin go."
Dr. Horrible stood there, contemplating his next move. He was waiting for Captain Hammer to arrive to rescue Robin and then fight him once he arrived. Another part of him, the Barney side of him, wanted to play hero and pretend to rescue Robin himself. He smiled to himself at the thought of getting the key to the city for his heroism.
In the middle of his thinking, a red light flashed in the distance. Dr. Horrible stepped over to a computer screen and opened it. He glared, face twisting and returning to evil as he watched his intruders wander through the halls of the building.
"Oh goody," he said to himself. "Now I can have some fun..."
