Chapter 2

Alex's Point of View

Mom, Jay and Voight were staring at me while the rest of the team pretended to be working.

"A job?" Voight said eyeing me suspiciously.

"Yeah I left New York." I told them.

"What why? Did something happen?" They all cried at once.

Rolling my eyes at their immediate worry I shook my head.

"No nothing bad happened. I just wanted to come home." I explained leaving out the fact I was engaged and pregnant.

"You lost the bet." I heard Jay whisper to mom.

"Bet?" I questioned.

"No not bet he said pet." Mom lied.

"So you got a pet?" I smirked.

"Stop changing the subject." Mom scolded.

"Look I will tell you everything after the case ok? So can I have a job or not?" I replied.

"Sure you can kid but it might just be part time up here, you ok with that?" Voight asked.

"Yeah that's perfect." I smiled.

"Ok good. Well then we have a case to work on." He sighed as the others took the desks.

Mom pulled a chair over so I could share with her.

A quick briefing later and we had our orders. Lucky for me I was with Hank and instead of doing any real work he took me for breakfast.

"So tell me what's up." He said once we had ordered.

"Um….." I mumbled.

"Alexis Halstead tell me right now." Voight replied.

"Fine but not a word to mom and dad got it?" I said.

"Promise." He assured me.

"Ok well you know about Chase right?" I asked.

"You mentioned him yeah." Voight agreed.

"Well he proposed and I said yes." I grinned.

"You're engaged?" Voight gasped.

I nodded.

"There's more, I'm having a baby." I told him.

"What?" Voight gasped again.

"You're going to be a mom?" He whispered.

"This is a shock. It seems like yesterday you were the little cop who turned up at the district and changed our lives." Voight reminisced.

"It seems like another life and changed for the good I hope!" I joked.

"Like you can never imagine kid. Erin hasn't been happier since you came back into her life, I never thought I would see her married with kids and now she's going to be a granny!" Voight laughed.

"She will never allow herself to be called that!" I laughed in response.

"Yeah, she will family is everything to her." Voight smiled.

Just at that his phone rang.

"Ah peace shattered. Come on partner we have work to do, however thanks to your recent revelation you're on desk duty." Voight told me as we left the diner.

"Aw come on!" I argued.

"No arguing I will come up with some excuse to put your mom and Jay off questions." Voight said.

Reluctantly I nodded and we headed back.

"Lindsay Junior?" Platt remarked as we walked past.

"Trudy Platt how I missed you and its Halstead now." I smirked.

Platt blushed at little as I walked upstairs.

Once in the office everyone started to compare notes.

"I need to go see Bunny." Mom sighed in annoyance as the evidence piled up.

"Als want to come?" She offered.

I looked at Voight for approval.

"Just to see Bunny?" He asked.

"Um yeah why?" Mom asked confused.

"No reason. You two should go catch up." Voight replied.

We both nodded and left.

Once in the car mom immediately started to question me like Voight before her.

"It's killing me Alex. I need to know what made you come home." She stated.

"Mom I told you its nothing bad." I replied.

"Well then, if it's good why can't you just tell me?" She begged.

"Fine. I'm engaged and pregnant." I blurted out.

Mom gawked at me and slammed on the car breaks. We jolted forward as she started at me.

"Aw whiplash!" I moaned.

"Come again?" She gasped.

"You heard me." I replied.

"Engaged? Pregnant?" Mom repeated.

"See this is why I didn't want to tell you like this." I sighed.

"Are you ok?" Mom asked randomly.

"Ok?" I asked confused.

"I mean about the baby?" She clarified.

"Oh right. Yeah I mean it was a shock but a good one. Chase is really excited." I told her.

"That's good I suppose." Mom mumbled.

"Mom he is a good guy this is what we want. Don't worry please!" I cried.

"I'm your mom Alex kind of my job but if your happy then I guess that's the main thing." Mom smiled.

"I am, really happy." I assured her.

"Good then we need to have a celebratory dinner tonight. Oh and your on desk duty." She said echoing Voight.

"Don't worry Voight already said that." I complained.

"You told Hank before me?" Mom questioned as she once again slammed the breaks.

"Oh look we are here." I said changing the subject and getting out of the car.

"Als would you mind waiting out here?" Mom asked.

"Um ok why?" I replied.

"Please just….you know how Bunny is." Mom sighed.

I nodded and remained outside.

I was playing with my phone when they arrived: two men in a black car. It happened so fast, one minute I was waiting on mom the next I was in the back of the car with a cloth being held to my mouth. Seconds later I passed out…..
