Chapter 12
Jay's Point of View
A few weeks after the incident in the cinema and things had gone from bad to worse with Alex. Chase had got out of hospital and was doing well in his recovery. He had even went back to work at firehouse 51. He was really supportive of Alex but she wasn't coping. Both her and Chase had been staying with us but I could tell Chase was slowly losing hope. He wanted to go back to normal, he wanted to live with Alex in their own apartment and get on with their lives. Alex on the other hand was barely doing anything.
I could see Erin worry about her every day as we got ready for work, we couldn't even leave Jay J with her because she couldn't look after herself let alone a kid. One afternoon I had enough I told Voight I needed the afternoon off. He seemed to get why I wanted to go and didn't ask any questions. As I walked into the apartment, the sight that greeted me shocked me.
"Alex seriously?" I complained as I stepped over the broken glass that had clearly been filled with whatever alcohol she could find.
She was unconscious on the sofa as I leant over her. The smell of the alcohol was overpowering. I reached over and shook her until she woke up. She jumped when she saw me.
"Why are you home?" She questioned.
"Why are you drinking?" I replied.
"I wasn't." She lied.
I arched my eyebrow and waited for an honest answer.
"Fine I was." She mumbled.
"Als you need to talk to us, I know these past few weeks have been hard but you can't do this. Not to your mom, Chase or me. We are all here for you, you need to stop pushing us away!" I cried.
"I can't dad…I can't talk about it. I don't want to talk about it!" She complained.
"Alex you have to talk to someone, this is like before. You know how worried we all were and it isn't fair to yourself or us to slip back into those habits. We love you and we cant bare seeing you like this." I said.
This seemed to touch a nerve as she began to cry. I gently reached over and pulled her into a hug. I sat there and let her cry her fill. When she was finished she released me and I passed her a tissue waiting for her to speak.
"I guess I could talk to someone….." She trailed off.
"That would be good, they could help you deal with all this." I replied.
"C-C-Could you come w-w-with me?" She asked hesitantly.
"I would love to." I assured her, pulling her into a hug once again.
"Thanks dad." She mumbled into my shoulder.
A few seconds later I let her go.
"Something we have to do first…." I sighed.
"What?" She asked confused.
"Clean up this mess, your mom will have a heart attack!" I joked.
Thankfully this earned a smile, something I hadn't seen from her in a long time.
"Missed that." I remarked.
She let out a small laugh and nudged me in the side.
"Come on we need to clean the mess." She said.
"I have a different idea how about I clean the mess, you have a shower and get dressed. When your ready we can go for lunch and discuss how we go about getting you help?" I suggested.
Alex seemed to think carefully about what I said before nodding in agreement.
"Anything to get out of cleaning!" She joked.
"Ohhhh you will pay for that when you're better!" I laughed.
Sticking her tongue out in response she headed to get ready.
About an hour later we were in the restaurant ordering lunch when I saw Chase come in. However he wasn't alone. I looked towards Alex to see if she had seen him but she didn't.
"Als I need the bathroom, be right back." I said as I got up.
She nodded in response and continued to look out the window.
"What the hell is this?" I hissed at Chase when I reached him.
He jumped when he saw me. I could see nerves all over his face as he tried to act like he wasn't with the blonde girl beside him.
"Jay…" He mumbled.
"I can explain." He stated.
"I don't want an explanation I have eyes. Chase what the hell? Your fiancée is going through something traumatic at the minute and this is how you repay her!" I hissed.
"Its not like that….." Chase insisted.
I lost control at this point, grabbing him by the collar and shoving him towards the men's bathrooms. Once I had him inside I tossed him free. He stumbled forward before turning to look at me again.
"In or out?" I yelled.
"What?" Chase cried.
"You are either in love with my daughter or your not but screwing around with someone behind her back isn't going to stand. So which is it?" I questioned.
"In….I'm in." Chase whispered.
"You sure?" I hissed angrily.
Chase nodded as he backed slowly away from me.
"I need to hear it out loud. Cause I swear to you, you hurt her and I end you. Don't even think for one second you will get away with cheating on my daughter, not to mention Hank Voight's granddaughter. I'm sure you have heard the stories at 51. Well picture what I can do to you alone and with Voight's help." I threatened.
"I-I-I won't h-h-hurt her. I s-s-s-swear." Chase stuttered.
"Good then get rid of your little blonde friend, go back to work and don't forget a present for Alex tonight." I said.
Chase nodded and made a panicked dash for the door.
"Chase?" I called.
"Yeah?" Chase gulped.
"Bring me some beers to." I added.
Chased nodded and sprinted out the door.
By the time I returned to Alex the food had arrived.
"You fall down the toilet? Go for a swim?" Alex joked.
"Something like that." I smirked.
"Now how will we get you back to making these sarcastic comments all the time." I added.
Until next time ;-)
