Thor:
Matters Concerning Kings and Queens
Chapter 4:
Meeting King Laufey
Nari smiled slightly behind her hand and muttered "finally" too quietly to be heard.
Jotunheim, a frozen wasteland made of ice, snow, and rock, the home of the Frost Giants and some other foul beasts. Mina looked at the frozen ground beneath her sister's and her own feet with great disdain. It was exactly as they had been told, a world one would mistake for a dying planet. Less than a rock throw away, about a mile, to the Northwest of them, a swirling burst of color appeared. It faded quickly, but anyone within 3,000 miles would have been alerted to the arrival of whoever used the Bifrost.
"We have company," Nari stated as she started in the direction of those who had been stupid enough to tell the Frost Giants of their presence.
"We shouldn't be here." Hogun stated as they looked around.
"Let's move."
"Hey Asgardians!" Inari shouted at the group from the other side of the small canyon-like gap, Mina next to her. They quickly turned to the two.
"Need some help?" Mina questioned in an offhand manner. Thor and the others stared at Mina like she had gained a second head, as they had never seen her in Midgardian attire.
"Hello Loki," Inari called with a smile before leaping over the gap. Mina rolled her eyes but followed nonetheless.
"Hello Inari and…" Loki started but was interrupted by Thor.
"Who is this?" Thor circled once around Mina.
Mina glared at Thor, "I would have thought that you would remember the woman who kicked your ass every time you saw her." Thor bristled at that.
"You dare-?"
"Of course I do, I'm Kaminari of Ama, you moron." Mina stated with her arms crossed over her chest.
Lady Sif and the warriors three looked annoyed, while Loki and Inari looked almost giddy.
"Kaminari?" Thor asked as he looked her up and down again, "You do not look like her. She would never pick such ill suiting attire."
"Like you would know?" Mina snapped. "And I thought Thor, the Mighty, couldn't get any more stupid or arrogant." Mina then started off towards where they would find the King of the Frost Giants.
"Where do you think you are going?" Thor called after her.
"To see Laufey, King of the Frost Giants; isn't that why you're here too? Or are you here to have someone other than me kick your ass?" Thor, obviously wanting to pound something into dust, followed with the others. No one noticed that Mina's attire had changed into her battle ready armor.
As they walked, rocks crumbled and fell. "Where are they?" Lady Sif asked.
"Hiding," Thor answered, "as cowards always do." Mina fell back to walk beside Thor, just as her sister walked next to Thor's brother.
"You've come a long way to die, Asgardians." Laufey's voice rang out to the group.
"Asgardians?" Mina muttered to herself, "I'm not an Asgardian."
"I am Thor Odinson!"
"We know who you are."
"I'm Kaminari daughter of Amaterasu."
"An Amadian?" came Laufey's surprised answer.
"How did your people get into Asgard?"
"And Ama." Mina added to Thor's question.
"The House of Odin and Amaterasu are full of traitors."
"Do not dishonor our families' names with your lies!" Thor and Mina snapped, angrily.
"You come from murderers and thieves!" Laufey yelled as he rose from his throne. "And why have you come here? To make peace? You long for battle. You crave it. You're nothing but children trying to prove themselves grown." As Laufey spoke the other Frost Giants started to surround the group of Asgardians and the two Amadians.
"Well, these "children" have grown tired of your mockery." The Frost Giants readied themselves for battle.
"Thor, stop and think. Look around you, we're outnumbered."
"Know your place, Brother."
"And you should know yours." Nari hissed at Thor.
"What about you, dear sister?" Mina asked, "Was it not you who thought it best we come here?"
"You know not what your actions would unleash. I do, go now, while I still allow it."
After a few moments of silence, Loki spoke up, "We will accept your most gracious offer." Thor shot a disbelieving look that screamed 'the hell we will!' "Come on, Brother." Loki had turned away from his brother and started back towards the Bifrost site with Inari at his side. Mina looked at Thor, also unhappy, but was smart enough to have realized this could have happened, and had started to turn back as well.
When Thor had finally started to head back too, one of the Frost Giants called out to him. "Run back home, little princess."
At the same moment, another one called out to Mina, "Run back home, little prince."
"Damn," Loki and Inari said in union as Thor and Mina smiled. Thor changed the hold on his hammer at the same moment that Mina drew her swords and turning in time with one another attacked the Frost Giants who spoke.
"Next?" They asked together before attacking again. Loki and Nari looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there. It didn't take long for the others to join in the fray.
"At least make it a challenge for me!" Thor shouted after several giants had fallen. After Thor had been knocked of his feet, he spoke, sounding much happier. "That's more like it." Some of the members of the group would sometimes help each other for brief moments of times during the battle; with the exception of Loki and Nari, who were fighting as a team the entire time.
Extra – Asgard, Training Fields; a year after the talk with Odin Allfather.
"Take up your fighting stance, Kaminari." The Instructor said and Mina quickly obeyed. "Feet shoulder width apart, knees bent – not too much," a chuckle escaped him, "hands up – good, good –"
"Teaching the princess how to fight?" a young male's voice questioned and Mina mentally groaned at the familiar arrogant voice. Kaminari refused to look at the speaker, already knowing who the owner of the voice was.
"Thor," the Instructor stated, confirming Mina's speculation, "Kaminari asked to continue her training in the martial arts for the duration of her stay."
"Really? Why?" Thor asked irritated that the princess felt the need to practice and train when he thought she should be spending her time with him, not wasting time learning skills she'd never get to use.
Mina sighed and turned her head just enough to see the blond prince who had grown to be a few inches taller than her, "If I don't continue to train and practice – honing my skills – while I'm here, I'll have far too many problems when Inari and I go home and have to start our lessons again."
"I see…"
"You don't believe that a female can fight?" it was a statement, not a question, since Mina had no trouble reading the answer from Thor's face. "Fight me then."
"Fine," Thor replied and within a few minutes he was rushing her only to find himself lying on his back, looking up at the sky.
"Too easy," Mina said from her low crouch with one leg outstretched and her arms still raised from her counterattack before rising as Thor rushed to stand. "Try again?" Mina asked with an innocent smile.
