Thor:
Matters Concerning Kings and Queens
Chapter 5:
Enter the Fray and One Angry Father
"Damn," Loki and Inari said in union as Thor and Mina smiled. Thor changed the hold on his hammer at the same moment that Mina drew her swords and turning in time with one another attacked the Frost Giants who spoke.
"Next?" They asked together before attacking again. Loki and Nari looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there. It didn't take long for the others to join in the fray.
"At least make it a challenge for me!" Thor shouted after several giants had fallen. After Thor had been knocked of his feet, he spoke, sounding much happier. "That's more like it." Some of the members of the group would sometimes help each other for brief moments of times during the battle; with the exception of Loki and Nari, who were fighting as a team the entire time.
When one of the Frost Giants came into contact with the skin on Volstagg's right arm, Volstagg cried out in pain and yelled to the others: "Don't let them touch you!"
Yet, when Loki was grabbed by a Frost Giant, he started to take on the appearance of a Frost Giant before he killed the one holding on to him; Nari stared at him in surprise as after killing the Frost Giant, Loki returned to normal.
"Thor!" Sif yelled as Hogun and Volstagg tried to remove Fandral from the ice spikes he had been stabbed with, after Loki and Inari had saved him.
"We must go!" Loki called.
"Then go!" was the response from Thor.
"You. Stupid. Foolish. Arrogant. Hotheaded. Blond God." Mina shouted at Thor as she fought her way towards him.
"There's no time for this!" Inari yelled at Mina.
"I'll get the oaf, you all go!" Mina replied. Just then, Laufey decided to release one of the more terrifying beasts that Jotunheim had.
Volstagg yelled for them to "run" but Mina didn't hear him over the noises of battle. The others, minus Mina and Thor, took off for the Bifrost site. Inari wanting to not lose Loki grabbed his hand as they ran.
"Thor!" Loki yelled as Inari yelled for Mina.
"Thor, you fucking idiot; we have to go, now!" Mina yelled as she reached his side and found herself dodging a swing of his hammer. Mina quickly started taking out any Frost Giant near her and dodging any swing of Thor's hammer that came her way. When Thor summoned lightening, Mina just shot him an annoyed look and swatted the back of his head. As the lightening Thor had summoned helped destroy the ground and their friends rushed for the Bifrost site, Mina yelled at Thor.
"Heimdall! Open the Bridge!" But the bridge didn't open and the fear-striking, ice creature appeared from the gap and let out a roar. Thor and Mina took to the air. As the ice monster opened its mouth to roar again, Thor flew straight into its mouth and out the back of its throat. The beast fell, landing for a moment on the icy ground before sliding over the edge and into the canyon-like gap. Thor, who had landed in front of the fallen creature, turned to find the Frost Giants had them trapped. Just as the Giants rushed forward, the Rainbow Bridge opened and Odin appeared upon a black stallion with eight legs.
"Father! We'll finish them together!" Thor cried.
"Silence!" Odin Allfather demanded.
Laufey rose to stand on equal ground with Odin, "Allfather. You look weary."
"Laufey, end this now."
"Your boy sought this out."
"You're right. And these are the actions of a boy, treat them as such. You and I can end this here and now, before there's further bloodshed."
"We are beyond diplomacy now, Allfather. He'll get what he came for. War and death."
"So be it." Odin replied before Laufey made an ice dagger and tried to attack him. Odin opened the Bifrost taking with him Thor, Loki, Lady Sif, the warriors three, Inari, and Mina.
"Why did you bring us back?" Thor inquired.
"Do you realize what you've done? What you've started?"
"I was protecting my home."
"You cannot even protect your friends! How can you hope to protect a kingdom?" Odin yelled as he threw Heimdall his sword. "Get him to the healing room! Now!"
"There won't be a kingdom to protect if you're afraid to act."
"Now, now," a woman's voice interrupted.
"Mother," Mina said with barely hidden fear.
"Damn," Inari said loudly as she squeezed Loki's hand before quickly letting go and crossing her arms across her chest as she and Loki turned slightly away from one another as if ignoring the other. Mina just waited for their Allmother to speak, with silent dread. "Hello Mother, have you come to take us home?"
"I'm afraid," Amaterasu started as her eyes moved from one daughter's face to the other, "that you all will not be returning with me."
"What do you mean? That we will receive Loki's and Thor's punishment?"
"But of course." Amaterasu said as she turned to face her youngest.
"So, what are you going to do? Force us to stay here? In Asgard?" Inari snapped.
"You will, your sister will not."
"Oh, wonderful." Both sisters said in irritation.
"Silence!" Amaterasu demanded of Inari before turning on her eldest daughter. "And you, how dare you?" Amaterasu's face was turning red.
"Oh Kami." Mina muttered in true Midgardian fashion.
Meanwhile, Thor and Odin were arguing again. "The Jotuns must learn to fear me, just as they once feared you." Thor shouted.
"That's pride and vanity talking, not leadership." Loki was wise enough to keep his mouth shut, as Odin tried to scold his oldest son. "You've forgotten everything I taught you about a warrior's patience."
"While you wait and be patient, the Nine Realms laugh at us." Thor spoke. "The old ways are done. You'd stand giving speeches while our homes fall."
To which Odin told Thor via screaming, "You are a vain, greedy, cruel boy!"
Thor replied with, "And you are an old man and a fool!"
"Yes. I was a fool to think you were ready." Odin said in a more subdued tone as he looked down towards his feet.
"Father…" Loki spoke, moving forward as Nari tried the same with her Mother.
"Hail!" Odin and Amaterasu snapped at their youngest children, both stopped and backed away.
"Thor Odinson, you have betrayed the express command of your king." Odin said. "Through your arrogance and stupidity, you've opened these peaceful realms and innocent lives to the horror and desolation of war!" Odin opened the Bifrost. "You are unworthy of these realms! You're unworthy of your title! You're unworthy of the loved ones you have betrayed." Odin started taking apart Thor's armor.
