Chapter 6

'The universe hates me,' Harry thought as he and Sasuke were climbing up a very tall mountain.

It had taken them both four hours to reach the top which housed an old ruined temple.

I had barely taken few steps ahead when suddenly sensei pulled me back; a spear made of copper landed in between the tiles making different kinds of traps spring up in all directions.

"This is very strange." Sasuke said as he examined another trap they came across. There was something very odd about it. The trigger for the trap was deeper into the temple than the trap itself. What use would that be for keeping people out? The trap would go off after the person passed it. This whole temple was weird. The locking mechanism on the entrance was on the outside. All the locks were on the outer side now that he thought about it. Another thing he noticed was the strange markings covering everything in the temple.

He grabbed a paper tag dropped it the whole temple was lit up with blinding light and covered his and his students eye. "Harry?"

"Yeah," I replied my voice cracking.

"I'm starting to think this mission may be out of your league. So, I will lead you out here." 'There is more than what seems here. The layout itself is all wrong,' Sasuke thought to himself not voicing that to Harry.

"Please," Harry pleaded; "Sasuke – sensei this something which I would never pass upon and those bastard snakes more or less demanded that I accompany you on their assigned missions, or else the agreement would be void. We're only here to retrieve the Blood pearl and the Dice of bones as they are called. If those serpents information is right, then they will have no choice but to grant admission to their cave as promised."

Sasuke sighed. There was nothing dangerous so far just several dozen locked doors. As they continued walking he finally came to a chamber that even he would consider massive. Throughout the room where thousands of skeletons, mostly creatures never even seen before and barely four human. All of them had ancient weapons of some kind or another that either looked melted, or had been cut through. In the center of the room there was a pole that stood about twenty feet tall; covered entirely in some intricate design. Attached to the pole by some chains and cuffs with a similar design was a statue of a Cobra snake bust. Its body was cuffed it had a look of extreme hatred on its face and fangs bared. As they approached the statue he noticed the floor of the chamber around the pole for about twenty meters was heavily burned.

When he was a few feet from the statue he saw the pearl that they were looking for embedded in its hood and a carving of the dice to the side of the snake statue.

After making sure that no traps remained, Sasuke approached the bust with a kunai and plucked it out- no effort at all.

'Now only the dice remain,' Harry mentally said.

As soon as Harry thought that the whole room was suddenly filled with a loud crackling thump; all the exits were sealed by stone walls falling on either side of the door. I had barely realized that another trap had activated when suddenly I was grabbed by sensei for a second time. He was standing on a wall perpendicular to the floor. Without heed or warning half of the floor suddenly disappeared followed by a loud hiss.

I saw the snake come up; its eyes had small bars in its place instead of pupils. I was confused for a second before sensei spoke.

"The dice are in the eyes of the snake. I will have to pluck it out, but before that…." Sasuke fingers flashed through hand seals; placing a palm on my forehead.

"What was that for?" I asked, but the sound didn't come from my mouth instead it came from a random direction. Realizing what it was for; I stayed quiet, waiting for farther instructions. I didn't get any instructions, but a question in sign language… I understood and stayed put.

As he dropped to the ground making no noise; the snake was still trying to find us, but failing. Sensei had used a jutsu to scatter our scent before coming here and its eyesight was definitely poor.

I saw the signal as I spoke.

"Greetings, serpent of the temple, I ask you to give us the dice of bones." I had soon realized that most serpents were not deserving of respect or formality and a threat of death was far more effective when getting through to them. So, I added a threat, "or perish."

"Foolish creature you dare to make a demand of me! I, who, have guarded this temple for many millennia! Slayer to everything that has crossed the threshold! And, I, who has been blessed with immortality! You DARE?!"

I hesitated.

'The damn snake was immortal?! How would sensei kill something like that?'

I thought as I looked at Sensei who wasn't even slightly fazed by the whole declaration, but had activated the Sharingan to understand our conversation. Sensei usually did that to understand when he wasn't trying to spend time translating it in his mind.

"I say it again; give us the dice and your life would be spared!"

"Foolish creature, for this insolence, I shall drain you of your own blood! While I slowly… eat you... ALIVE!"

I was going to say more when suddenly the snake cried out in pain and its head cut off its body in one clean sweep. Sensei then made a shadow clone extracting the dice from the eyeballs with a knife.

Like a fungi the snake's body started fuming; something began growing from the body in the place of the head. I had barely realized that another head was growing out before- immediately, it was so instantaneous- its whole body was covered in black flames and the temple began breaking apart.

I jumped towards Sensei who grabbed me by my shoulder and activated Susanoo as the ethereal warrior surrounded us and broke us out of the temple.

Age 7

Harry watched his opponent carefully, his body assuming the stance that had been drilled into him years ago. As usual his opponent seemed completely unconcerned with his actions, merely waiting for him to make his move.

He circled, but the enemy merely turned to keep him in view, the man's stance a mirror of his own.

It was in utter silence that he surged forward; his leg propelling him towards them in a blur of movement. His fist launched forward, but his adversary's arm snapped out deflecting the blow. He turned on his heel; narrowly dodging a return blow and simultaneously lashing out with a vicious kick.

His opponent knew better than to try and block; leaping backwards to avoid the blow gaining space. Once again, he surged forward in pursuit, determined to keep the fight in close quarters and deny the older man the advantage of his greater reach.

He stamped his front foot down; using the movement to reinforce the blow he'd aimed at the center mass of his foe. He'd stepped little more than two feet from his opponent sealing the man's movements to only a few potential choices.

The blow was blocked as expected, but Harry retracted his fist instantly; launching a flurry of attacks. The majority designed to merely distract the enemy from the few blows aimed at more vulnerable areas. He knew almost immediately that he'd made a mistake. His opponent was too experienced to fall for the dummy blows and could use his greater strength to all, but slap aside the dangerous strikes.

More than that, he'd used this opportunity to regain his balance and gain room. Harry gritted his teeth. He'd lost the initiative and that was going to cost him.

A deceptively fast blow shooting out, confirmed that thought, and he blocked frantically, crossing his arms to absorb the blow. It felt like he'd had a sledgehammer driven into his arms, but he ignored the ringing and jabbed out with an elbow. If he went on the defensive now, he'd never get out of it.

They exchanged blows furiously and Harry became increasingly aware of the way the fight was going. His opponent had advantages in height, reach and weight. More than that, the other man was simply better than him; his blows striking with more precision and force.

Without shaking up the fight a little, this was only going to end one way: With him battered and bruised….as it always did.

He lowered his body slightly and charged forwards, driving his shoulder into the man's torso. The move didn't surprise the man who allowed it, judging by the way he only got one touch blow to the back of his torso before he connected. It wasn't a clean blow, but he hadn't expected one.

The old bastard was far too experienced to get hit dead on with something like that; more importantly though he'd gotten right into his opponents space. With the heel of his palm he lashed upwards and almost connected solidly with the man's chin; which would have sent him staggering backwards.

He kept up the assault; launching heavy blows aimed at every vulnerable point he had ever learned or heard off. Face, gut, groin, neck, chin…

He repeated it in his mind like a mantra.

The man dodged a blow aimed at his face, twisting his head to allow it to pass by, and in a moment of horror, Harry realized he'd overstretched himself.

Oh this is going to hurt…

The man's uppercut sunk into his gut and he doubled over by reflex. A low kick swept into his legs and he stumbled, trying desperately to preserve his balance through his gasps. A second blow to his gut told him how stupid an idea that was. An elbow drove into his back, throwing him to the floor.

He groaned, forcing his body to rise, only to feel a firm grip wrap around the back of his neck. The signal was clear, and he slumped, admitting his defeat.

"Your movements are too stiff," Sasuke said, releasing him and stepping away. "More than that, you don't control the force of your strikes correctly. They are often either too weak, or too strong for the situation." He paused as if considering.

"The shoulder charge was good though."

"Thanks," Harry replied, pulling himself to his feet. "Glad to know my new set of bruises gets me some praise."

Not that he had done too badly on the dishing out bruises part either. Sasuke's chin had a small scratch earlier from striking. The practice clothes he was wearing was covered with gravity seals, which barely allowed him 1/50 of his strength.

With a puff of smoke his opponent vanished from his spot and the original came out from the nearby canopy completely unharmed.

"You have gotten good while facing my shadow clones with taijutsu. We need to find you a real opponent; in case you want to advance further."

"Yes."

"For now rest and recover."

The next mission to be assigned by the serpents was far above anything I had seen, or imagined. We had to slay a football field size serpent and deliver its corpse to the serpents at the temple. I couldn't honestly think; why would one species consider everything apart from itself food?

It had mostly taken them both the better part of a week to actually reach the destination that was hidden underground - about 3000 miles under the city itself- and the only way in was an underwater cave passage with a complete vertical drop ending. It was impossible for humans to travel unless they had assistance of another snake and we had to travel in its belly the whole time while making sure not to get dissolved by the creature's fluids.

When they finally arrived it was a huge cave the size larger than any other cave ever seen, it was warm extremely so. I could feel my sweat glistening. In the middle of it was the ancient serpent I could barely make out the shape due to the crackling electricity in Sensei's hand, running towards the ancient beast. The lightening brightening up the whole cave before Sensei struck.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

The beast screamed as the lightening covered hand made a hole in its magnificent body, it thrashed around the tail lashing; breaking pieces off stalactites and stalagmites, creating tremors through the earth.

Sasuke only jumped back and observed.

A chunk of a rock fell off the ceiling, only for it to be sliced in half when Sasuke raised a hand creating some kind of lightening sword.

On his side, Harry was having the shock of a lifetime. That damn snake was humongous! It had dark purple scales all over its body, each scale being larger than half of its own body! Fear crept up in Harry's being, and if he wasn't with Sasuke – alone, he would've turned back and ran.

But, then, then the snake wasn't yet dead.

However, before Harry could see, or/ and another attack could take place; Sasuke did something so bizarre that Harry didn't know what to make of it. He turned completely red. Suddenly it felt as though a lot of Chakra was being sucked out of the earth.

Astonished by this, Harry followed the trail of powerful red Chakra; noticing that it was gathering around Sasuke. He wasn't the only one who could see this and feel it, wasn't the only one who was worried, threatened by this as well. The snake aimed its tail towards Sasuke.

Of course he didn't just sit still and let it smack him, no; he bent his knees and jumped over it.

There was a brief eye contact between the creature and Sasuke before the creature stilled; Sasuke landed right next to it and cut its head off.

The snake was dead, finally….Another mission over.
