That's What Little Girls Are Made Of...

Chapter One Thirty-Seven

Esme POV

I know what some of you are thinking. How could I trust Maggie so easily. Believe me, I've asked myself that same question on more than one occasion. Ironically, I come to the same conclusion every time; I trust her with my life.

And don't think it was easy for me to trust Maggie, because it was anything but. Of course, she fought like hell to earn my trust and prove to me that she was nothing like the monster who had sired her.

And after spending a few weeks with her, it was blatantly obvious that she was nothing like that vicious monster, Eleazar.

No, it was plain to see every time I looked into her ocean blue eyes, Carlisle eyes, that she truly embodied his kind heart and selfless nature.

Lonely and misunderstood, Maggie just wanted to be loved by her family, but instead, she was pushed aside while Eleazar doted on his two firstborn children. Carlisle was his child prodigy with his amazing intelligence and Supulcia was the apple of her father's eye.

In his mind, she could do no wrong.

Poor Maggie thrived in her first few years of life solely due to the inseparable bond she shared with her brother and the unwavering love of her mother.

Supulcia, Carlisle's middle sister, was just as conniving and ruthless as her father and purposely ignored her baby sister. Well, when she wasn't tormented her at least. As different as night was from day, Carlisle had adored little Maggie from birth, whereas Supulcia had hated her from the moment she knew of the child growing in her mother's womb.

And that hatred just continued just continued to grow, because now Maggie despised Supulcia just as much, if not more, than she did her.

Eleazar was an abusive bastard, and when Anabelle heard of his latest mistress' pregnancy, she refused to suffer any longer. Carlisle had finally broken free of his father's clutches, Supulcia was a demon child she no longer recognized, and that only left little Maggie for her to try and save. One night, after Eleazar's abuse had been particularly bad, Anabelle swore that she was leaving. And she was taking her little Maggie with her.

For days, she awaited the perfect opportunity. With tickets purchased and arrangements made she waited until Eleazar was out of the house to make her escape. Little did she know that it was all a ploy to get her to show her hand. Eleazar appeared through one of the secret passage ways in the house and a confrontation ensued.

Maggie watched in horror as her father threw her mother down the stairs and her older sister pilfer her dead lifeless body for the little jewelry Anabelle planned to use to finance their getaway.

Unfortunately, Carlisle hadn't spoken to his mother in a while and even when he did speak to her, she had not divulged her plan and he had no idea that things had gotten so bad.

Sadly, Maggie had to sit by and watch her father get away with killing her mother because the police helped him cover it up.

Carlisle was her only hope, but she had no way of contacting him and very little knowledge on how to find him.

Seems like every step Maggie Cullen tried to take forward, she was pushed ten back...
