Global Dynamics

"Okay, are you guys ready for the grand tour?" Claudia asked, leading her family through the doors of GD and into the atrium.

"H.G., you're gonna love this place." She said happily, before taking them over to the elevators.

"I mainly work in Section 3, but I help Zane out in Section 5 sometimes." She continued, leading them towards the Medical Center, where Dr. Allison Carter-Blake worked.

"Allison!" Claudia called out, making the celebrated doctor turn around and smile widely at the group.

"Hello, Claudia." Allison greeted the younger woman, before turning to the rest of the group. "Now let's see if I can remember you all." She moved down the line. "Steve. Myka. Pete. Artie. L – " she stopped at the two unfamiliar faces.

"Oh, Allison, these are two Warehouse peeps that you haven't met yet. This is Abigail Cho, and Helena Wells."

"It's good to meet you two." Allison said warmly, before turning to Claudia. "By the way, Jack & Fargo apparently have a double surprise for us then."

"Yeah, Fargo told me to meet him outside of Café Diem around 6:00." Claudia said, before asking Allison about her & Jack's baby. "How are you doing with Jenna? Have you gotten through to her about the new baby yet?"

Allison smiled, rubbing her slightly protruding stomach. "Yes, we have. Although Jenna is still wondering if we'll be able to return the baby."

Claudia laughed, just in time for a Klaxon alarm to sound.

"Oh my goddess, is one day too much to ask for?" Claudia moaned, before taking off after Allison, the Warehouse agents following closely behind her.

Soon, they found the source of the alarm, and it made them all stop short.

"No…. its not possible…" Artie whispered, just as Claudia said, "…Craptastic."

In the middle of the room, Zane Donovan was stuck to a large machine, wearing an old-fashioned lab coat. Even as they stood there watching, a few nuts & bolts, a Bunsen burner – thankfully not turned on at the time – and a bucket flew upwards, attaching themselves to Zane.

"But – how?" Claudia asked, turning to Artie.

"Someone must have –" he answered, and it quickly turned into one of those conversations that they had, where they only felt the need to verbalize half of what they were actually saying.

"While you guys are here – "

"But who -?"

"Motion sensors should have – "

It continued like that for another minute, until Allison stopped them.

"Guys! What on earth is Zane wearing, because it's definitely not GD standard issue."

Claudia's P.O.V.

"Alessandro Volta's lab coat." H.G. said. "Claudia, does she…?"

I nodded. "Yeah. So do Doug, Carter, Henry, Zane, and Jo."

"Good." Myka said, taking charge. She turned to Allison. "Volta's lab coat increases the bio magnetic field of the wearer. And each metal object that comes into contact with the coat only serves to amplify it further."

"And you know all this how?" Allison asked. I turned to look at her, my heart racing – both with worry for my cousin, and fear of what the reemergence of this artifact meant.

"Because its last known location was in the Warehouse." I said grimly.

"Okay, so how'd you neutralize it last time?" Pete asked.

"We… um….. used a crossbow, some piano wire, and Benjamin Franklin's lightning rod." Artie said.

"Well that's not an option right now." Abigail stated.

"No shit, Sherlock." I said dryly, and then winced, feeling a sharp pain in my abdomen. Contractions.

"Great." I muttered, just as Jo & Doug came running in.

"What?" Steve asked.

"Nothing." I said quickly. "Anybody have their Tesla on them? We'll have to improvise."

The collective answer was no, except for Jo of course.

"Up in my office. Which ones do you want, Claudia?" Jo asked.

"Uh, bring down the rifle, and the regular one." I said, and Jo sprinted off. Meanwhile, I was bracing myself for the next set of contractions. Apparently I didn't do a very good job.

As soon as they started, I stumbled back against the wall in pain.

"Ohh, God" I cried.

"What? What's happening, Claudia?" Fargo asked, hurrying to my side.

"Contractions." Both Allison and H.G. replied for me. "She's going into labor."

"Are you kidding me?" Artie growled, glaring at me. "You couldn't have waited a bit longer?"

"Why don't you take it up with the baby, Gramps!" I snapped, and then took a deep breath. "Don't worry about me, guys. Get the Tin Man down first, okay?" I said, just as Jo came back into the lab.

"I got them." She said, before noticing me. "Whoa. What happened to you?" she asked.

"No time." I said. "Steve, take the rifle. You & Jo need to shoot Zane at the exact same moment."

Jo looked terrified for a moment, and then it passed. "Okay." She said.

"3… 2…. 1…. FIRE!" Myka shouted, and my gay bestie and my cousin's fiancée shot him with the Teslas. The resulting charge was powerful enough to ground the coat, so that Zane was back on the ground, without killing him.

While Jo ran over to help Zane out of the lab coat, the rest of my family began to rush me back towards the medical bay.

10 ½ hours later….

10:15 p.m.

December 29th

"You guys can come in now." Allison said softly. Luckily, they had managed to clear out one of the unused labs, turning it into a delivery room just last week.

Everyone – meaning Fargo, Artie, Steve, Myka, Pete, H.G., and Abigail – crowded into the room.

"Hey you guys." Claudia said tiredly, a lazy smile on her face. "Come and meet the newest member of our little family."

They all moved closer, and Claudia looked up at her husband. "Do you want to hold her, Doug?"

He nodded, speechless, and Claudia handed him the baby, the use of the pronoun still lost on him. But not on Myka.

"Her?" Myka asked softly, smiling with delight at the woman that she thought of as a younger sister.

Claudia nodded happily. "It's a girl."

"Congratulations, Miss Donovan." A familiar, oddly accented voice said, emanating from the back of the group. The crowd parted to reveal Mrs. Frederic standing there, a small smile on her face.

"Might I ask what her name is?" the older woman asked.

"Yup." Claudia said, as Fargo handed their baby girl back to her. "Her name is Leena." The petite redhead announced, making most of the people in the room either gasp softly, or have their eyes fill with tears, or both. "Leena Claire Donovan-Fargo."

And at that moment, there was one more person in the room, only visible to two others.

Claudia watched in shock and awe as Leena's ghost walked up to her hospital bed, and smiled down at the young mother and her daughter, reaching out to stroke a cheek – first Claudia's, then baby Leena's, before disappearing.

As soon as the woman had vanished, Claudia looked around.

"Did anyone else just see that?" she asked, and was answered by confused glances.

"Saw what, Claudia?" Artie asked softly.

"Never mind." Claudia responded, knowing that Leena had only revealed herself to mother and child.

1 hour later

Most of their family – both from Eureka and the Warehouse – had held Leena at one point or another by now, and so Mrs. Frederic stood up to leave.

"Congratulations once again, Ms. Donovan." She said, but was stopped before she could pull her usual disappearing act.

"Mrs. F, you do know that its Donovan-Fargo now, right?" Claudia asked her mentor, causing the current Caretaker to turn around, and a little half-smile present on her face.

"Yes, I know. However, you will always be a Donovan in the eyes of the Warehouse." She answered, before disappearing from sight.

"I really hate it when she does that." Jo grumbled.
