It's on time! It's a miracle! Anyone have Majora's Mask 3d? I got the limited edition! Either way, this is scorched feathers! In order to give this as much personal spin as I could, I added a few parts where you can read what Dark Pit was thinking. Next chapter, all my own! (PS: This is the longest chapter yet!)
DISCLAIMER: I OWN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! (Except Haizina and Ignast)
Dark Pit waited outside the door, gripping his Dark Pit Staff.
"Dark Pit," came Haizina's voice.
"I'll see Medusa after this," Dark Pit said.
"It kinda makes the promise you made useless," Haizina said, "if you can delay it as long as you want."
"I need to save Pit," Dark Pit, walking toward the door. "After that, I swear I'll see her."
"Fine," Haizina said. "But don't expect me to help you."
"I'm doing this on my own," Dark Pit said, "no one's going to help me." The door opened, and Dark Pit ran out. "I'm outta here!" He activated the power of flight, appearing in mountainous area, filled with fog. He began to fly down to the ground, trying to figure out where Palutena wanted him.
"Pit is still unconscious. With his wings burned up, he can't last much longer," Palutena said sadly. "But I thought of a way to save him."
"Of course you did," Dark Pit said.
"We both owe Pit. You know that," Palutena said. "Think of the sacrifices he made to save the both of us." A horde of underworld monsters appeared, trying to attack Dark Pit. He quickly shot at them.
You completely missed the point of my statement, Dark Pit thought, almost sighing aloud. "All right. Then what's the next step?"
"Go to the city of souls. It's just a little ways ahead. It's the place where souls make their first passage into death… or back into life."
"Oh, I get it," came Viridi's voice. "You want to turn back the clock and cheat death. Raising the dead, keeping the near dead alive, it's pretty dirty business."
Why the heck are you here? Dark Pit thought to himself.
"I know the stakes, but we don't have a choice," Palutena said.
"Hey, weren't you two just at war with each other?" Dark Pit asked.
"Mind your own business!" Viridi said. "I'm not so petty that I can't extend an olive branch at a time like this!"
"Thank you, Viridi," Palutena said. "And thank you for helping Pit when I couldn't." Dark Pit entered an area with some reapers. He dodged out of their eyesight, trying not to get them to summon the reapettes.
"Just so you know, this is NOT a hug-it out moment," Viridi said.
"Not to hurt your feelings, but THIS Pit, doesn't need your help to fly," Dark Pit said, as he felt Palutena attempt to take control of his wings with the power of flight. He followed where she wanted him to go, but didn't let her take control. "So don't expect me to suck up to you."
"If your flight's unlimited, then you don't need to fight on ground," Palutena mused.
"So air battle only?" Viridi said. "It feels strange to say it, but I'm disappointed." Neither Dark Pit nor Palutena answered, so Dark Pit focused on defeating some of the incoming enemies. Suddenly, he came upon an area filled with huge crystals, sticking out of the ground.
"What kind of city IS this?!" Dark Pit asked.
"It's unlike any earthly city," Palutena said. "The spirits of the dead gather here." Dark Pit weaved in and out of the crystals.
"So, basically, this is the Underworld," Dark Pit pointed out.
"You got it!" came an echoing voice. Hades appeared in the air. Just an illusion of course.
"Oh, it's you."
"Our hero's looking a little goth today," Hades said. "I hope the stresses of life haven't gotten you down. That would be ever so tragic."
"No one's listening," Dark Pit said, ignoring the giant god.
"It's hilarious how you have no sense of humor! But that sourpuss attitude's going to give you an ulcer some day, you know."
"Anyway, Pittoo," Viridi said, and Dark Pit gave a low growl of annoyance, "your understanding is correct. The underworld is where souls go. As you know, reapers are responsible for carrying souls."
"But we've got an excess of souls these days. The reapers can't handle them all!" Hades chimed in.
"So the extra souls come here?" Dark Pit reasoned.
"Yes, though some just fade away, and other's are... well… eaten," Palutena said.
"Even in the afterlife, it's survival of the fittest!" Hades said happily.
"That makes some sense," Viridi agreed, "the weak are consumed, just as nature intended." Once again, Dark Pit was given a little while to focus on the fight. He entered a tunnel and quickly defeated the monsters inside it. He saw a light at the end, and quickly flew out side it. He was met with a spectacular view of the City of Souls.
"Remember what I said about souls getting eaten?" Palutena asked.
"Well here's the hideous devourer of souls himself!" Viridi finished. Dark Pit looked into a ravine to see a giant snake-like creature fly out of it.
"You weren't kidding about the hideous part!" Dark Pit yelled, shooting at it's mouth.
"I find him quite adorable, actually," Hades mused. "And souls CAN be very delicious. Luckily they don't posses personalities or anything like that."
"What- they don't?" Dark Pit asked, intrigued. He shot at some orbs on the back of the creature, which burst.
"Of course not!" Hades said. "Souls have no more personality than blood or bone. They're just another resource to harvest from living beings."
"Your disregard for life is astounding," Viridi noted. "Could you be more callous?"
"Well I could try," Hades said. "You know, souls are a bit like taffy. Sweet enough to eat, but pliable enough to mold into any shape I can imagine."
"I don't even… That's just so… Um… Nuh-uh!" Viridi said, grossed out.
"I'd love to get my hands on Pittooey's soul. So dark, so chewy, so malleable!" Hades said. Dark Pit was starting to get grossed out. "A powerful spirit like that shouldn't be wasted on ol' chompers lunch!" Just as he said that, Dark Pit finished off the creature, sighing with relief.
"Do you Hades was serious was serious about molding souls into other forms?" Viridi asked.
"It would explain his endless supply of troops," Palutena replied, thinking. "He's making them out of souls!"
"Professor Palutena does it again!" Hades said.
"But wait…" Viridi said. "If that's the case, there's no way the Underworld Army could EVER lose!" Dark Pit began to think about this. The way they were thinking about it yes, but something was missing…
"Uh, spoiler alert!" Hades said.
"So let me get this straight," Viridi said, "All the lives lost in battle go to building up the underworld army…"
"You got it, so the more fighting there is, the bigger my army gets. My goodness! It feels good to be on the winning team." Finally, Dark Pit realized what was wrong.
"Hold on a second," Dark Pit said. "Your math is a little off. You might want to break out the brain age, pal."
"I have a brain of 24!" Viridi said.
"And that's relevant because…?"
"Think about all the casualties there have been in this war between the gods," Dark Pit pointed out. "If Hades was right, would be way more crowded with monsters."
"Then that means that one fallen soldier doesn't equal one new Underworld monster," Palutena put together. "After all, making something as corporeal as a monster would take…"
"A TON of souls!" Viridi said. "But that's a huge waste! It's… an abomination!"
"Yeah, that's about the sickest thing I've ever heard," Dark Pit agreed. "We HAVE to stop him."
"You poor deluded things!" Hades yelled, appearing in front of Dark Pit. "You'll never stop me! Not in MY realm!" He scratched at Dark Pit, who just barely dodged it, but it broke through a pillar.
"Don't let him get under your skin!" Palutena advised.
"Not a problem," Dark Pit responded. He flew straight at Hades, breaking the illusion. "It's been great touring the City of Souls and all, but we're here to save Pit, right?"
"Hey, no need to cop an attitude," Palutena said. "Just keep moving forward."
"Get a room, lovebirds," Hades said. Dark Pit turned toward a glowing whirlpool of energy.
"This WAS a stream of souls," Palutena informed Dark Pit. "But so many lives have been lost that it's now a torrent. All souls need to find their final resting place down here so that life can spring anew. That's part of the natural cycle of life, but Hades keeps playing with souls. He won't let them rest. His blood lust has thrown everything off balance!"
"It's like human's disrupting the balance on earth! It's unforgivable!" Viridi said angrily. Dark Pit couldn't believe the arrogance of these goddesses. Didn't they see what the true root cause was?
"You've GOT to be joking," Dark Pit yelled. "ALL you gods and your stupid wars are the ones throwing everything off balance!"
"You little nothing!" Viridi yelled back. "How dare you?"
"He may have a point," Palutena said. "We have the Underworld Army out to hoard souls. We have the Forces of Nature trying to wipe out humanity." Dark Pit entered some kind of portal, opening to a white area filled with bars all around him. "We have the humans continuing to exploit nature and each other. And we have us- gods- who bring the entire world into our power struggles. But it doesn't matter how this started, now we know who's profiting from it."
"Hades!" Viridi said. "Left unchecked, he threatens us all."
"Then our only option is to take him down," Dark Pit said.
"But to do that, we're going to need Pit's help. Let's get him patched up!" Viridi said. Dark Pit took out the few remaining enemies, then looked up to see a kind of floating island, with a waterfall falling off it.
"Up ahead is the rewind spring," Palutena told him. "That's where we need to go. I'll bring Pit in right next to you."
"As the name implies, the spring can return things to their original states," Viridi said. "But if you soak for two long, it can rewind things too far, and that can get weird." Dark Pit landed on the island. He stood next to the water, ready for Pit to be brought in. Suddenly, he felt a searing pain in his wings, he was pulled up, before he felt as if something sharp had just forced it's way out of his wings. He fell to the ground, as energy that had come out made it's way into the spring.
"WHAT is going on?!" Viridi asked no one. Pandora appeared inside the water, floating out with a smile on her face.
"Well that worked out nicely," she said happily, then turned red.
"Pandora…" Dark Pit groaned, getting up. Dark Pit started with some long range shots, trying to keep her away.
"Wow, I sure wasn't expecting that!" Viridi exclaimed.
"YOU can thank Dark Pit for bringing me to the rewind spring," Pandora said. She shot some bombs at Dark Pit, which he hit back at her. "He was a rebellious servant, but it seems he served my purposes in the end. But that little parasite DID steal my powers. And for that, he must pay!"
"She can be quite frightening," Palutena noted.
"I hope I never get to that point," Viridi said.
"Pandora's left over power was what enabled Pittoo"- Dark Pit showed his feelings by sending a shot at Pandora's eye- "to fly."
"He basically had her remains living in his wings," Viridi stated. "Gross. But standing too close to the rewind spring seems to have revived her."
"Your freeloading days are OVER!" Pandora yelled at him, shooting more bombs, which he sent back.
"Really?" Dark Pit said. "The whole flying thing worked out pretty well for me. I might just defeat you again and steal your power back."
"I highly doubt that," Pandora said. Dark Pit sent one last shot at her, which sent her flying above the spring. "Irritating little pest!" She screamed. "Time to exterminate you!" Pandora fell into the spring. She came out as a woman with a huge blue ponytail, and wearing blue and pink armor that didn't exactly do much on the protecting front.
"Whaaaaat!?" Viridi and Palutena yelled at the same time.
"Who is that?" Dark Pit said. Pandora laughed.
"It's the new improved me!" She said. "Ahhh, it's been so long since I had a body! Eat your hearts out ladies!"
"SOMEone's overcompensating!" Viridi yelled as Dark Pit shot at Pandora, shaking off the shock of seeing her as a person.
"Feeling a little inadequate, Viridi?" Palutena asked. Palutena shot a heart at Dark Pit, which he just barely dodged. He sent a shot back.
"Of course she is," Pandora said. "You should too! Just LOOK at me!"
"I liked her better when she was just an evil blob," Palutena said. Dark Pit stepped on a panel on the floor, then became stuck to it. He struggled to get free while Pandora shot more hearts at him.
"She's still an evil blob underneath," Viridi said, "she just has better hair, that's all." Dark Pit sent another shot at her, which caused Pandora to fall to the ground. Dark Pit approached her cautiously. She jumped up at him, trying to shoot him again, but he stabbed her with his staff, and then tried to get away to a better range.
"There you are friends." came Hades's voice. "I finally tracked you down! You're a stealthy bunch."
"That's because I was using my power of ninjary!" Palutena said.
"Riiiight," Viridi said.
"What, you don't believe me?"
"I think that's something everyone can agree on," Dark Pit said.
"Tone down the sass, little angel," Viridi said.
"It's been a long time, Lord Hades," Pandora said.
"Hm?" Hades said, seemingly noticing Pandora for the first time. "And you are…?"
"Don't tell me you've forgotten your old friend Pandora!" Pandora said happily. Dark Pit shot at her, but she put up a barrier that deflected his shot. Dark Pit growled, and ran at the barrier, breaking it with his staff.
"I don't remember you being so… animated," Hades said.
"That's not the half of it!" Pandora said.
"If the rewind spring did this to Pandora, I shudder to think of it's effect on Pitty!" Hades said. "No one wants to seem him in that outfit. I'd better destroy the spring."
"You can't do that!" Palutena yelled at him.
"Come on Pittoo!"- Dark Pit attempted to skewer Pandora with his staff- "Get rid of Pandora for good!" Viridi yelled.
"Oh, don't you worry!" Dark Pit said, shooting at Pandora again, trying to get her in the head. He managed one final shot at her, finishing her off.
"Ow!" she yelled.
"This coming from the mighty Pandora?" Dark Pit said. Pit was summoned in next to Dark Pit, who quickly moved him over to the water.
"You only need to dip him in," Viridi advised. Dark Pit tapped Pit to the water, that brought him back out. His wings went back to normal, and gave a flap. Pit opened his eyes.
"Hm?" he said. Then laughed in happiness. He jumped up. "Where am I?" He asked. He saw Dark Pit. "Pittoo?" Dark Pit turned around and jumped off the spring, preparing to activate the power of flight. It didn't work. He started to fall off.
"He can't fly anymore," Palutena noted.
"Fine, fine," Viridi said. "I'll get him." A green light surrounded him, and he was teleported away.
With any hope, this wasn't too boring. Next chapter, we see exactly why Medusa wants to see Dark Pit. I can't think of anything to say here... hm... Well, don't forget to review and put the story on your alert list. It always makes my day to see that notification. If you see any errors, PM them to me! I'm happy to fix them, or explain why they are there if there is a reason. I'll also try to answer any questions, just try not to make statements into questions, for instance did you know? questions will not be answered unless I feel the need.
