B)
It was day like any other, the sun was shining,Edwin was working away on his Farm,Edgar and Julie were remembering their adventures from the glory days, and Maxwell and Lily had overslept yet again.
It wasn't exactly their fault, most of the time anyway, both of them usually went to bed at reasonable just some days some people have more problems than usual that causes working hours to end much later than scheduled.
Much,much later than scheduled.
It was afternoon when the first of the twins began to stir,Maxwell was the first of the two to wake up. He looked over at Lily who was still fast asleep, despite her uncomfortable position of having half of her body hanging off the bed,Maxwell figured she was just too tired to care.
This was all going perfectly though for Maxwell since having Lily asleep just made what he had to do today all the much easier this chance only came once a year and being twins with Lily made it almost impossible to pull off. But today was going to be the day,the day Maxwell finally surprised Lily with birthday party.
Oh sure they had both tried to surprise the other of course, but having the same birthday made it impossible to do,especially when both of them are trying to surprise the other.
Soon after getting dressed,in complete silence mind you,he started to head for the backyard where his master plan was set to unfold.
"Alright just gotta distract Mom and Dad and I can get right to work",he said trying to pump himself course it would all be for nothing if he couldn't get past his parents.
Maxwell walked up to them, this was it,the moment he had prepared for. Well if you count a last minute step he only took into account the night before prepared.
"Hey Mom!Hey Dad I was wondering if you could maybe do me a favor and get me something from the city I need?",Maxwell said giving away almost all of the signs that someone lying would be doing.
Edgar and Julie were far from being easily fooled of course, comes with the adventuring experience.
"Sure honey what do you need?"Julie said giving her husband a playful smile, they weren't very good liars either.
Maxwell jumped in surprise he hadn't really expected to get this far and prepared dozens of other extra excuses, but he never expected the first one to work.
"Um...err...I need something for uh school?Yeah! That's it! School supplies like...Paper! I need Paper!Please?"
Nailed it.
Edgar couldn't help but give a little chuckle at his sons attempts to get them out of the quickly shushed him and answered Maxwell's hastily made up question,
"Of course we will Maxwell, your father and I will be back in a bit just make sure you don't accidentally burn the house ." They headed out and unknown to Maxwell giggling all the way to their car.
"So honey do you really think we can trust him with what he's bound to do?" Edgar asked starting the looked over to the window where she could see Maxwell peeking through the curtains, probably making certain that they had got in the passenger seat,"Well Edgar,if we're both certain of what he's going to do then it'll work out fine." Edgar looked at the house again, there was Maxwell waving goodbye with a nervous grin across his face.
"Well whatever happens we have to tell Maxwell to work on his lying skills."
Julie nodded in agreement,"Did he really expect us to go buy something for him in the city for a boy with a magic notebook?"
Maxwell meanwhile being none the wiser to his parents antics stared at them until he was sure they couldn't see the house anymore.
"...There we go! Now I can really get to work! Oh man this is gonna be great!"And with his parents gone he had free reign of everything,Edwin was around but Maxwell hadn't seen him since yesterday night so probably wasn't going to be a problem.
"Alright let's get this checklist out and it looks like the first thing Lily wanted was a Carnival."
As he quickly wrote the word carnival it began to appear all over their backyard.
And that's when things got out of hand.
"Okay now a sheep pen! A pool filled with chocolate pudding! Oh! And I can't forget the giant museum dedicated to her favorite superheroes! She would kill me if I forgot that!"
The ideas kept going and going finally reaching the point where Lily's wishlist was completely ignored. Planes,Magic shows, theaters, and and of course he couldn't forget her nerdy anime music, for some reason or another she really dug it.
Soon the backyard was filled with a sorts of Lily-esque things. "Perfect." Maxwell said proudly looking over his handiwork.
"There's no way Lily's gonna expect any of this! Man Maxwell you are too good..."
It wasn't too long till Lily came running out from the house, "M..Maxwell..".
"Surprise! Happy Birthday! I told you I would get you this year! And you didn't think I could."
Maxwell looked over to Lily again, but instead of an expression of joy or surprise it looked more like fear.
"Oh no." Those were the last words Maxwell heard before an explosion of color overtook them both.
...
...
"So,that's what happened."
Maxwell and Lily both sighed, they never meant for any of this to happen, this was sure some birthday they made for themselves. And it was never easy to explain to their parents why their backyard had suddenly exploded and why both of them looked like a rainbow threw up on them.
Of course living with both Maxwell and Lily had given their parents a sort of premonition about these sort of things.
"Well...you do know what comes next right?"
Both of them looked up at their father with absolute dread, was he really threatening to ground them on their birthday?
Suddenly they were met with party poppers and confetti as all of their siblings came running out of the house, each with presents in hand. In fact it looked like they had all come in with parts of a party all put together.
"But-"
"How-"
Edwin walked up to them and laughed, "Oh shoot guys. Did'ya really think we weren't in on the whole thing?"
Both of the twins stared at each other wondering which one of them had ratted the other out,but it didn't last long. They were soon overwhelmed with gifts and food that they had forgotten they were even covered with dust and debris.
So while Maxwell couldn't fulfill all of Lily's wishes,at least she did get a surprise birthday party for herself. And both of them were happy with that.
Though...there was still the matter of what Lily had been so worried about and that explosion...
Give me a break okay I am old and tired and there are vidya games to play.
Oh but there is one more thing.
