- Chapter 30 -
Avaline gasped and dropped the crown to the floor. She looked down to see blood from the crown smeared on her hands.
"Oh my gosh," she whispered. It took several moments for her to realize whose blood it was. She shrieked in terror and gave a blood curdling scream.

The five remaining people were continuing their conversation at the dinner table. All of a sudden, they heard a loud scream from the second floor.
"By the Mane, I didn't know Adela could cry that loud!" Lucy laughed.
Caspian's face had gone white as a ghost. "Queen Lucy, that wasn't Adela."
She gave him a questioning look.
"That was Avaline."
"Should we go check up on her?" Camden asked.
"No," they said in unison as yet a loud clang was heard.
They exchanged a look of worry before dashing up the stairs to find Avaline.

The bedroom door was flung open. Light flooded the room.
"Avaline?" Caspian called. "Avaline!"
"She's over here!" Lucy said, motioning Caspian over.
In the corner of the room sat Avaline. Her arms were wrapped around her legs and she rocked from side to side. Adela was wailing on the floor next to her. It could be assumed that the child had crawled to her mother.
"Dear cousin, what is the matter?" Caspian asked worriedly. He squatted down in front of her.
The poor girl couldn't think. She didn't blink and could barely breathe. She pointed at the crown, which sat a few feet away from her.
Caspian's and Lucy's eyes slowly moved to the direction Avaline was pointing. Lucy gave a cry of horror when she saw. Caspian gasped.
"Is that-"
Avaline nodded. Tears were pouring from her eyes and she was gasping through her sobs. "He's dead, isn't he?" she looked up at Lucy. "They killed him!"
Lucy's eyes dropped to the ground. "I wish I knew," she whispered.
Avaline gave another cry and turned her head into Caspian's shoulder. About this time, Adela had began wailing once again. And this time, it wasn't about teething.
There was an eerie silence that night.
Avaline couldn't sleep, and even if she could, she would have refused to. Adela went through a cycle of sleeping for an hour, crying for half an hour, and going back to sleep. Avaline wouldn't let the child out of her arms out of fear for her.
Caspian sat in the room next door, wondering if Edmund's fate had been Susan's. Queen Susan was a smart woman, maybe she escaped, he hoped.
They had decided it was best not to tell Analiese about this until they were absolutely sure about what had happened to the kings and queen. Seeing as she just gave birth a few hours before, it would be unhealthy to have her stress about this, too.
Lucy laid in bed across the hall. She was curled up on her side. Her shoulders shook vigorously as the sobs washed over her young and sheltered body. Ever since she was a child, her siblings had tried to keep her from fighting in wars and seeing gory battle injuries. They had waited until she was fourteen to give her "the talk." She was one of the most sheltered teenagers any of them knew. But now, with the possibility that her siblings were dead... Lucy's whole world was crashing down.
She truly was alone.
A/N: I know that all of you are ready to kill me because of the possibility that Peter, Susan, and Edmund may have died. Wait and see what happens, though. Notice that they have no real proof that blood on the crown was the last blood he ever shed. Maybe they're still alive... or maybe not. (Honestly I don't even know at this point because like what even? I've gone so far off my plans it's not even funny.)
I know this is a SUPER short chapter. This story is wrapping up soon and I'm on my way to starting the third story in the series! I've decided to call it Vows to the Valiant. You'll see why in about a month! I promise that you'll see more of Cathalina and Kingston in the next few chapters.
Please review, lovelies!
