Erwin stood up and walked out of his office.

"Sir!" A solder said, saluting him, who stood guard outside his office.

I can't give them all a trial now but I can give one a trial to see if his good enough, if Levi was correct about one of them then its likely he is correct about the others.

Erwin told her before walking in the opposite direction "Get Oluo Bozado to come to my office"

She hurried away after saluting.

Erwin followed his senses, soon he was where he wanted to be.

Hange was talking to her squad when she noticed Erwin.

She saluted him as did her squad.

"I'd like to borrow you for a moment" He said.

She nodded, smiling at him as she followed him into one of the corridors.

"You busy at dusk?" Erwin asked.

"No?" Hange said, raising her eyebrows at him.

Erwin sighed "Levi has finally chosen a squad"

Hange clapped her hands together grinning "Thats good!" Then she stopped noticing Erwin's expression "Or...not?"

"I'm not sure yet. Though the mission I'll be signing them up for will decide and your feedback" Erwin replied.

Hange raised her eyebrows at Erwin "You want me to spy on them?"

"I want you to see how the solder and Levi work as a team and if the solder is good enough to be able to keep up with us. If it works and Levi's judgement is correct its likely his judgement of the other solders he picked is correct as well and I won't be sending new recruits to their deaths just yet" Erwin said evenly.

Hange's eyes widened "New recruits?-"

"Levi picked three trainees and one newish solder for his squad" Erwin said, giving Hange a look as if to say, now what do you think I do with that?

Hange stared at him for a few seconds trying to process what he'd said "Wait, Levi what?"

"Thats what I thought" Erwin said.

Hange looked at Erwin, her expression narrowing slightly as she said sounding suspicious "And...where exactly are you sending them?"

Erwin looked away as he said "The Norway Bridge"

Hange let out a gasp "Erwin, isn't that a bit hars-?!"

"If the solder Levi picked can't keep up with you or Levi he dies, simple as that. I'm not risking three other recruits that could get killed easily if thats the case" Erwin said.

"Or you just don't like the fact Levi hasn't chosen any of the solders you suggested and you want to prove him wrong in one of the most horriblies ways possible" Hange said critically looking at Erwin.

Erwin's eyes narrowed "You don't know that"

"Ah, yes but..." Hange poked him in the chest, wagging her finger at him "I know you"

Erwin smiled slightly "I suppose you do"

"Who's the guy you may be sending to his death then?" Hange asked, like they were talking about the weather.

"Oluo Bozado, his 19 years old, going on 20 soon. Very skilled in Combat according to Levi. He has worked with Levi once before, so that'll work in his favour" Erwin replied easily.

"And I suppose its my job to make sure he doesn't get killed and to prove Levi can actually have good judgement picking his squad right? huh, well works for me" Hange said brightly though with a little bit of sarcasm.

Erwin sighed, ignoring her behaviour "Look I know you and Levi have had your differences but I trust you to do the right thing. Mike's had issues with Levi ever since...that day. You seem easier on Levi"

Hange frowned, for once looking serious "I don't really agree with what Levi has done in the past of course but...I can understand it. Mikes just having trouble doing that"

"We all are though but in different ways" Erwin muttered.

"Isn't that the truth" Hange said with a grim smile.

"So the mission is watch over Oluo and Levi, see how they react to each other and see if they make a good team basically and stop Oluo getting killed when possible, though... if its obvious Levi has made a mistake, which you are kind of hoping for Oluo Bozado will most probably die, that about it?" Hange summarised slowly.

"I think thats it" Erwin said, with a slight smile.

"Oluo! How many times do I have to tell you? You're room is not a training facility! Seriously! What have you done? Its like theres been a battle in here!" Oluo's superior groaned, face palming.

"Its not that bad" Oluo muttered, crossing his arms.

His superior, Edward gave him a are you serious, look.

"Okay, maybe it is that bad but I'll clear it up! I swear!" Oluo said quickly.

"You've been saying that for the last couple of weeks" Edward snapped.

"Um..." Was all Oluo could say.

They glared at each other for a few seconds before someone rushed up to them saluting Edward "Sir" She said.

"What is it?" He asked.

"Oluo has been requested to go to the Commanders office sir!" She replied.

Oluo's mouth hung open.

The Commander wanted him...?

"Wow, I wonder what he wants with you, course any more trouble lately?" His friend Lizz asked, who was standing there watching Oluo get shouted at by his superior as friends do...

"No!" Oluo snapped, feeling suddenly very nervous.

Why would the Commander want him?

He suddenly felt very ill.

Its probably nothing, I haven't done anything wrong Oluo assured himself as he walked towards the Commanders office, leaving Lizz and Edward behind.

After a couple of minutes of walking he was nearly there. His heart stuttered slightly as he noticed Levi standing in front of the office, leaning casually against Erwin's office door.

Oluo saluted to his superior quickly when he came closer.

"Captain" He said though a little questioning.

Captain Levi raised his eyebrows at him but said "You're here, finally. I was beginning to think you were having a crazy big shit or something"

"Is he here?" The Commanders voice rang out.

Oluo blinked, he was sure he heard Levi mutter under his breath with sarcasm "Yes your highness"

But he'd never heard anyone speak to Erwin Smith with that much disregard for respect before so he forced himself to forget about it.

Levi motioned Oluo to follow him, to his surprise he saw that the Commander was not alone, in fact Hange was there as well.

So many famous strong solders standing near him?

Oluo felt like he was sweating a little bit.

Levi shut the door behind him.

"Now you may be wondering why I have asked for you. Well you will be going on a mission with Hange and Levi here" Erwin said.

Oluo's eyes practically bugged out of his head.

Wait...What?

"If the mission goes well then you will be the first member to join Levi's own squad and stay there. A lot is riding on this you understand?" Erwin said, looking at him with intense eyes.

"Y-yes sir" Oluo spluttered out.

"Now go and get ready" Erwin said, then looking back at some files on his desk. Hange was just a silent force, watching him from her position on standing next to Erwin, studying him.

Oluo nodded, saluting as he did so.

He turned around to be faced with Levi.

"Sir" He said.

"Solder" Levi replied with, though his usual steel eyes seemed more welcoming somehow and Oluo forced himself not to do anything unprofessional like jumping up and down excitedly thinking, the higher ups noticed me, they actually noticed me and want me to go on a mission with them!

Oluo reddened slightly as he passed Levi, he swore he saw Levi smirk at his solders obvious embarrassment before he turned the corner.

Ready to tell Edward and Lizz, mostly Edward at what had happened.

It also meant he didn't have to clean his room for today as well. Oluo hid a grin as he thought of that.

Levi was just about to leave after Oluo but Erwin told him "Not just yet, I need to speak to you"

Levi turned around, holding back a sigh of annoyance, knowing where this was going.

"Are you sure that these are the solders you want Levi?" Erwin asked, more like demanded.

"I'm sure" Levi replied, crossing his arms defensively.

"Levi-" Erwin sighed.

"I'm sure" He repeated more loudly.

"Stephan would of been a good choice" Erwin said slowly.

Levi snorted "Stephan was a robot. He would obey every order, practically had no personality of his own, that may be your thing but I don't want complete and utter control over my solders. They need to know their own minds"

He knew he probably shouldn't of said that as soon as it came out but he just faced it, looking at Erwin steadily, his look an open challenge.

Hange's eyes widened a little.

Erwin caught the meaning behind the words "I have told you this how many times, this is the way-"

"No, its your way!" Levi growled.

"Um maybe you both should both calm down-" Hange said, only to get both deadly vampire gazes on her.

"Okay, okay, shutting up now" Hange muttered.

"How many times have we gone over this?" Erwin said, trying to get a grasp on his temper.

"I think we need to go over this a few more times" Levi hissed "I thought you were loosing up on your control? What the fuck happened to that over these past weeks huh?!"

Erwin inwardly cringed but he didn't respond to that, this needed to be done, he couldn't afford to look soft and he needed Levi to be in his full control, he thought he could do that without having to use their sire bond but given what he found out about Levi's past Erwin knew that wouldn't work out.

"This is how it works. I'm an your sire, you do as I say, you obey, just like you obey me as your commander" Erwin snapped.

"Stop controlling me!" Levi shot back angrily.

"No. Shut up and listen to me Levi!" Erwin ordered.

Levi stepped back, his eyes widened as he coughed loudly, hands going to his throat, he couldn't make a sound.

Levi seethed silently.

"We may be living in human society but we are vampires, vampire obey their sire. It is instinct and can not be fought. Thats the end of it, is that understood!" Erwin said firmly.

He finally realised he could speak again, what he really wanted to say was fuck you but what he found himself saying stiffly was "Yes"

At Erwin's disproving look Levi added furiously "Yes sir"

"Good" Erwin replied.

Levi fumed as he turned his back, knowing he was dismissed as he stormed away.

"Are you sure that was a good idea?" Hange asked hesitantly.

"The plans I've made have been slowly coming into place. At that time I will need Levi to be with me completely. True he is no longer wanting to kill me but Levi's trust has been damaged to much in his past for him to fully trust me like you and Mike. I can't wait that long to get Levi to fully trust me, my plans for the future must go on. And I will need Levi's trust or his obedience and it looks like I will be getting his obedience forcibly by using the sire bond, no matter how much I don't want to but I will need him. If I have to force him to obey me...so be it, he'll have to get used to it" Erwin said seriously and coldly.

Hange tensed up as if she was going to argue then she sighed, her shoulders sagging in defeat but all she said was "As you wish"

Oluo waited outside.

A solder had told him this was where he was going to meet Levi and Hange.

If this went well he could be in Levi's new squad...

Oh god..

The excitement and nerves almost made him want to run away, but he stood there, waiting for them.

He turned around as soon as he heard someone walking towards him.

Hange, she had her horse with her.

Though was it him but did she look troubled? When she got to him Hange told Oluo "Word of warning. Be careful of Levi's his in a bit of a bad mood"

Just as she'd predicted Levi soon came into a view, a angry scowl fixed on his face.

"S-sir?" Oluo asked.

"Its nothing. Just had a wonderful chat with our commander about something" Levi growled.

He sent Hange a glare as he said this.

They all got onto their horses.

"Okay, lets ride" Levi said.

They arrived at their destination after two hours. A hour break in-between though mostly for Oluo than for them.

Then they were there.

Norway Bridge

A abandoned village to the side of a crumbling bridge. The garrison solders had reported a large vampire nest in the village.

Levi jumped from the horse, landing easily. Not bothering to step quietly, he told Oluo "Don't bother to be silent, they've defiantly know we are here already"

Oluo nodded, jerkily.

Levi remembered how he'd felt surrounded by Mike, Hange and Erwin when he was human, his instincts telling him to run or fight because of the danger they presented was great, he couldn't imagine what Oluo was probably feeling at the moment yet the boy managed to keep his hands from shaking and his expression determined, he was brave Levi thought, pleased.

They walked into the village, tying their horses up before they did.

The village was completely silent, it was getting dark, the shadows seemed to reach out to them, like clawed hands.

They walked deeper into the village.

Hange's eyes narrowed, on the look out for anything different.

Oluo stiffened.

"What is it?" Levi demanded.

"I-I swear I saw something, over there" Oluo muttered, looking at a closed down shop.

Oluo took a step towards where he pointed out, Levi put his hand out, stopping him.

"I'll go first, you follow my lead" Levi told him.

Oluo nodded.

Levi went in first, his sword out, held easily in his hand, his senses alert.

There...was defiantly something here...

The shop was more of a garden shop, plants and statues dotted around the area.

Hange soon came in after them. She only had seconds to react...

"Levi! Duck!" She shouted.

Levi hit the deck as a dagger traveled past his ear, crashing through the windows behind him.

A loud hiss, like a snake, then someone had charged at him.

A big brute of a man but Levi could tell he was a vampire.

His eyes red, teeth sharp, getting sharper.

He reacted quickly, his sword dug deep into the vampires gut.

The vampire spat in pain "ha, T-that won't kill me"

"No? But I bet this will" Levi sneered, suddenly taking out a stake then forcing it into the brutes chest.

The vampires eyes widened in shock and pain.

Suddenly their was a shriek that was so loud it almost hurt Levi and Hange's ears "Andrew!"

Hange tensed up, she muttered "No..."

Levi frowned, noticing the voice was coming from outside, he ran out there, with Oluo following him.

"Get of me, get of me! They killed him! Can't you see that? They killed him!" A voice cried out, Levi was shocked at the grief that echoed through the voice.

Hange did not follow them, instead she walked up to and bent down next to the vampires dead body, she looked at him up and down. He would soon turn into ash but something was different about him...

Suddenly the screaming made horrible sense.

"Oh Erwin, you didn't...did you?" She whispered.

Levi looked around for that voice, he followed it from another street, Oluo right behind him.

What he saw when he turned the corner was shocking ten vampires met his gaze. A huge nest then, he'd only taken on five vampires at once before. A young vampire struggling in another's hold...was she...crying?

"T-they killed him" She sobbed.

What...what was going on?

He'd never seen vampires show any other emotions than anger and hatred before.

Hange suddenly came into view "What are you doing!" She shouted suddenly "Attack them"

"I-" Levi was about to say but Hange interrupted as she got to him "These vampires have been killing of anybody that comes close. You know the way the Garrision found out they were here? They saw these vampires attack and kill an innocent girl! They've killed other people to, given all the missing people around this area!"

They killed a number of innocent people?

Levi felt his heart harden.

No matter how they acted they were still ordinary vampires.

Their type killed his only friends.

Levi's eyes turned to steel.

The ordinary vampires stood their, Levi could sense they were unsure what to do.

Well he knew what to do!

Levi ran at them, though making sure he was going human speed. The vampire that had been holding the girl vampire that had been crying stepped in front of her protectively.

He met Levi's charge, three of them attacking him at the same time.

Hange fought two other vampires while one of them had lunged at Oluo.

The rest were trying to get away.

Levi's lips curled into a snarl, he wouldn't let that happen!

He dodged, kicked, swearved and punched.

Levi felt like he was on fire...

This was what he was made to do...

They were no match for him.

To shocked at him strength and speed.

They were soon taken care of. Levi went for the small group of vampires who were getting away.

Hange did the same while Oluo managed to take down the vampire that had hounded him.

Levi ripped the head of one of them then went for the vampire that had cried out in the first place, he held her against the wall.

She looked only a couple years younger than Oluo but Levi knew looks could be deceiving.

He raised his stake.

"W-why, why work for him?" She whimpered.

Levi blinked, surprised.

Who?

Erwin?

Kenny?

No ordinary vampire had actually spoke to him before, apart from hiss and growl.

At Levi's confusion she cried "Abnormal! Listen! The Blood Master! Why, why would you work for him?!"

Wait...

She knew he was a abnormal vampire?

What the-

"Look, you are about to die in a second, what ever you are babbling about, I don't care" Levi snapped

"He can't be trusted! His only after his blood! Why would you want to work for him? You killed, you killed them! They were doing nothing wrong! The only wrong person here is the Blood Master please, don't-!"

She fell silent.

A gasp of pain.

Blood splattered onto Levi's clothes.

She fell limp, a stake through her chest.

Levi whirled around, Hange was there, her hand raised, she had thrown the stake.

"Why did you do that? She was about to tell me something" Levi said in frustration.

"One, you were seriously listening to her? The vampire was desperate to save her life, she'd bout out any load of rubbish and two..." Hange pointed behind her.

Levi's eyes widened as he took in Oluo, who was staring at Levi in shock.

"W-why did that vampire call you an Abnormal?' He asked slowly.

Well shit Levi thought.

Suddenly Oluo's eyes rolled up inside his head, he swayed then collapsed.

"What the fuck Hange?!" Levi growled, stalking towards her, she was standing next to Oluo having knocked him out.

"I um panicked?" She said slowly.

"Ugh" Levi groaned, face palming.

Levi picked up Oluo, he was light as a feather.

And they came back to their horses.

Levi was surprised they hadn't been injured, he'd never been up against that many vampires before.

Levi frowned, why was this mission the biggest vampire nest he'd seen? Shouldn't it have been an easier mission, for Oluo?

Oh well he had a lot of questions to ask Erwin when he got.

A faint groan from Oluo as he stirred.

Hange moved quickly.

Another thud and he was down again.

"Hange!" Levi snarled.

"What, his not dead" She huffed.

"He will be soon if you keep on knocking him out like that!" Levi growled.

Hange rolled her eyes, she said "Be glad his alive"

"I am" Levi replied honestly, even surprising himself a little bit at how much he cared about Oluo's life.

The conversation ended as they rode back home.

They both for of the horses and Levi gave the limp Oluo to Hange "Take him to the medic. I got to talk to Erwin about something"

A flash of worry was in Hange's eyes as she asked quickly "What about?"

Levi gave her a look "It isn't of your concern"

Before Hange could reply Levi was gone, using his vampire speed.

He slowed down when he came across humans, running at their normal speed.

Levi soon reached Erwin's office.

He didn't knock as he walked in.

Erwin seemed to be having a conversation with Mike, they stopped talking as soon as Levi entered.

"Back from the mission I see? I am starting to think that I'm going to have a problem with your knocking skills" Erwin said dryly.

Mike stayed silent, shifting uncomfortable.

"I need to ask you something" Levi said ignoring Erwin's comment

"You can say it in front of Mike" Erwin said smoothly.

Finally facing Levi fully.

"Okay" Levi muttered, frowning at Mike.

He was sure...sure that the vampire girl had said something important, and something told him that Erwin may know what it meant.

"Do...do you know anything about The Blood Master?" Levi asked, curiously.

Another chapter done, whoohoo. I think that this is my longest chapter yet! It took ages to write, I decided on splitting this chapter in half because it was even longer than this before I split it in half. Who do you think the Blood Master is? What will be done about Oluo? ;) hehe. Anyway hope you have a good day! Next Chapter is called The Puppet and The Puppeteer

The Preview

They were surrounded.

There was only one way to save them but...could Levi do it?

"This is getting tiering Levi"

I am not free...

I was never free...
