Azula

The day had finally come and I was being led to the traditional dueling grounds where I would fight Ozai in a battle to the death. When we arrived it was clear that our event was to be the entertainment for a few noble families who secretly and openly wanted to see me perish. In reality I didn't much care what they thought but all that changed when we walked through the gate and I saw Katara sitting high in royal box with Mai beside her.

Wait why is she here? Did she come to cheer me on or because of worry? My mind raced with questions but at least I knew she'd be safe with Mai by her side.

The two guards at my side pushed me to my starting position and stood ready as I handed them my clothes. Traditionally duels were to be fought with the upper body bare but I wasn't about to let the audience see me in such a way. That privilege was reserved for someone special, so I was content with my simple black bindings to cover my chest. Moments after I had changed Ozai came walking out of the opposite gate flanked by his own guards along with his father. Ozai's usual anger filled eyes were cold and focused as he marched forward, but I could see in his slow but steady steps the traces of fear that would allow my victory.

He took the positon opposite me and burned off his clothes and waited for the signal to be given. On queue councilmen Roku stepped forward and after looking over both of us making sure we didn't have any concealed weapons began speaking.

"We are gathered here to witness the duel between Ozai and Queen Azula. As tradition dictates this will be a fight to the death and if Ozai should win he will become the next ruler of dragons. Now let the match begin."

Ozai acted quickly and transformed into his pure dragon form. Like all dragons under my rule his true form was a one I'd seen many times before but now I'd be facing this massive red fire breather it in combat. I could have transformed myself but he wasn't worth the effort. This combined with his usual anger towards me caused him to send a massive torrent of flame which I sliced in half with my own blue flames. Having me block it must not been part of his plan, while he was thrown off I made my mark and propelled myself into the air before sending a massive wheel of flames directly at him. Arrogantly he tried to burn through my fire with his own, but while he could admit a massive amount of fire he choose quantity of quality, therefore my fire tore through his, charring his face and eyes. Instinctively he reverted back and held his face with one hand while sending fire in every direction in a blind rage.

If he had spent more time training then his shots might have hit there mark but each one hit the stadium wall or completely vanished moments after leaving his hand. He and everyone watching knew that victory was already mine, all I'd have to do was end him but a part of me wanted to watch as he burned. But as I watched he pulled his hand away and saw the burns my attacks had caused. I looked higher to where Katara sat. Her eyes were wide with both amassment and fear. It took me a moment but I realized that it was me she was afraid of.

If I kill him in cold blood she'll never be able to look at me again. But this is a duel to the death and if I fall Ozai will become ruler and that's something I can't let happen.

As I thought about what to do Ozai had recovered enough to unleash a series of lightning bolts at me. Normally it took complete mental balance to be able to perform this technique so I was actually impressed that was able to do it engulfed in rage. Although his fire missed it's mark his lighting however was far more accurate and actually made me dodge as each shot came close to it's mark.

"You'll die by my hand you bitch!" he screamed unleashing a vicious shot that grazed my left shoulder. It wasn't much but the shot was just enough to numb my arm which limited the techniques could do.

At the sight of my injured arm he arrantly gestured to the crowd

"Victory is in my grasp! Now die you wench."

This ends now!

Even with one bad arm my lighting was still stronger then he was. He saw it coming and tried to put up a wall of fire to block it but my lighting was far stronger than his fire. It only slowed my lighting down for a mere seconds before piercing though and send him hurdling into the far wall.

"End this now Ozai I'm more powerful then you'll ever be."

"Never!" he said as he staggered up. Breathing heavily and holding his arm he looked over to where his father stood. I couldn't see because he was behind me but suddenly Ozai smiled cruelly and jumped to the center of the arena before using his good arm to create lighting. But his arm was extended too far upward to be aiming for me, in fact the only thing up there was... the box seat.

He wasn't aiming for me, he was aiming for Katara. And Mai wasn't a firebender and there were no sources of water for her to bend up there. His lighting was already leaving his fingers so I couldn't stop it but I could stop it's target. Blasting a massive fire from my legs I transformed in mid-air while at the same time focusing on my lighting. Normally to create lighting you gather energy in your body and then direct in out your fingers but I was stopping at step one. My body intercepted the lighting just as everyone saw what was happening. I heard Katara gasp as she saw me take the hit and fall to the ground as lighting coursed through my body.

Pain like I've never felt filled my entire body but still I held in the energy waiting for the right moment. In his arrogance he let his guard down and walked over no doubt to examine his handiwork. I saw my chance but I looked to Katara to see if she was safe and what I saw told me everything. She was safe and looking at me with worry but her hand were balled into fists and she gave me a nod which was all the confirmation that I needed.

Before anyone knew what had happened I channeled lighting into my mouth before sending it as a massive blast straight into Ozai. With my sharpened senses I could hear his heart stop as lighting fried every part of his body. Using that much energy combined with the damage toward my body caused me to lose consciousness just as I saw Roku saying something about the match being over.

All that matters was that was that Katara was saved and Ozai was finally dead.
