Katara
In the six months that I've been home my life has gone from bad to worse. At first it was great seeing my family and friends again, but as soon as my father heard of my return things got pretty bad. The minute he'd stopped hugging me he'd all but declared that I'd be marrying Aang so that he could protect me from spirits. In fact he'd wanted to hold the ceremony right then and there but Aang said that I should be given time to recover from my experience and said that the ceremony would be postponed for six months. I was actually thankful and surprised that he wanted to wait instead of doing it now, it wasn't until later that night when I realized that my father had assigned him to be my guard which meant he was never beyond arm's length from me at all times. Of course he spent the entire time trying to win my heart or at least give him a chance, but no matter how hard he tried he'd never replace Azula. Even when he gave me a betrothal necklace that my father made me accept I wore it as a bracelet instead of a chocker much to Aang's disappointment.
And as the spirit festival got closer and closer my father got more and more protective of me and had me locked in my room far away from the portal.
"I just don't want a repeat of last year Katara." He told me the night before. I could tell from the tone of his voice that my disappearance must have devastated him. So for the briefest of moments I forgave him for his overprotective state. Then I remembered why he wanted me to marry Aang and my anger at him returned. Aang came by shortly after he left dressed in formal robes. When he saw I wasn't happy to see him his smile dwindled just a little but still he let himself into my room so that he could talk to me.
"Listen Katara I know that you're not happy about this but..."
"Not happy? I'm furious!" My outburst caused him to take a step back raising his hands to try to surrender.
"Not only is my father making me marry you but he locks me in my room like a prisoner!"
He had the decency to look away a small frown forming on his face.
"Look Aang if you truly cared for me then you'd cancel this marriage and let me go." I'd hoped that my words would reach him. And after a minute I heard him mutter something.
"What?"
"I said I let you go once. When that dragon took you I wanted to open up the portal and charge in after you, but as we all know I can only do that once a year. I was devastated when I realized I'd never see you again. But one day when I was mediating an old spirit appeared before me saying that a girl fitting your description had been taken to the spirit world. So I searched for days in spirit form trying to find you and my heart nearly exploded from joy when I finally found you." It only took me a second to figure out who that old spirit must have been.
"Then about six months ago he appeared before me again saying that he'd rescued you and that he'd be sending you home. It's just like the old saying goes, if you love something let it go and if it comes back it's yours." I could tell from that statement that he had no desire to break things off. I pointed to the door and he took the hint but as he was leaving he turned back.
"Katara I just want you to know that I do love you and I'm willing to spend as long as it takes to make you happy." Then he left to go open the portal leaving me locked in my room. Luckily my room had a balcony overlocking the entire city so at least I could see the portal being opened.
Well enjoy it now because in a few short hours you'll be married and forced to stay in the village.
The first of the spirits were arriving and the celebration was commencing. I watched as spirits of all shapes and sizes came through the portal but no matter how hard I looked I didn't see the one I wanted.
"I guess I never see her again" But as the words left my mouth my right arm started to glow. I'd managed to hide my mark from everyone except Yue who I told everything but in the six months I'd been here it never glowed like this.
Does this mean? Is she actually here? But I couldn't see any dragons at the festival. It was then I heard the click of my door being unlocked, no doubt my father coming to tell me the ceremony was ready. What I didn't expect to see was Azula standing there key in hand with a massive smile on her face. We rushed and embraced each other in a deep and passionate kiss before pulling each other close.
"How did you get here? I thought for sure my father and his men would be watching every spirit that came through the portal."
"Did you really think I'd let anything stop me from getting to you? But to answer your question I might have traded half of the royal library so that Wan Shi Tong would create a small tear between the worlds near the ocean and moon spirits. But enough of that if we're going to leave we need to go now."
"Why now?"
"Well I might have incapacitated a few guards on my way up here." I looked past her shoulders to see the two guards my father had left lying face first on the floor.
"Alright but let me leave a message so that nobody tries to come after us." It didn't take me long to write out the message containing the real reason why I left and how they shouldn't worry about me. With the message left on my desk Azula picked me up bridal style and jumped off the balcony growing wings and flying us to the spot where we first met. Just like the last time the ocean and moon spirits were dormant but in the middle of the spring were two things. One was a small tear leading toward the portal and the other thing was Yue accompanied by Sokka. Azula instantly got into a defense stance but I stopped her from attacking.
"Please don't try and stop me from leaving with her." The two of them looked to each other and smiled.
"Stop you? No we're just guarding the spirits." Yue said before giving Sokka a nudge to the ribs.
"Huh oh yeah just guarding the spirts. We didn't see anything else tonight." he said before giving me a hug before giving motioning Azula over to the side no doubt for a quick talk. While those two talked I spoke with Yue.
"So that's the girl you fell in love with?"
"Yeah."
"Well I must say any person who sneaks passed a small army of guards just to see you earns a seal of approval in my book." We shared one final hug before Azula and Sokka came back. I looked through the portal before looking back at the tribe. It was in that final look that I saw a small shape getting closer and closer in the sky, knowing it to be only one person. I grabbed Azula's hand and pulled her through the portal. Once through I waved goodbye to my brother and Yue just as the portal closed. The minute it closed Azula transformed into her true dragon form and I took my seat on her neck as she flew into the sky headed full speed toward the palace. As we flew I took off Aang's betrothal necklace and tossed it into the forest below, never wanting to see it again. At her full speed we arrived at the palace in no time where I saw that everything was set up for a wedding.
Well at least this marriage I want to be part of.
The moment we landed we were rushed into our wedding clothes by her maids and let to an altar were Iroh stood smiling. As I made my way up the steps I was ambushed by a smiling Ty lee who looked to be the picture of perfect health.
"I'm so glad your back! Now we can finally have the wedding." As we got into position she told me that in her rage Azula had killed Sozin which lifted the curse on her. And as it turns out for the last six months she's been doing any thing in her power to see me again. Once in position Iroh started.
"We are gathered here today to join our queen with Katara of the southern water tribe. If there is any among us that has a reason these two should not be wed I suggest you keep your mouth shut so our queen doesn't kill you." Everyone laughed at this but I know it was only half a joke.
"Do you Azula take her to be your wife?"
"I do"
"And do you Katara take her to be your wife?"
"I do"
"Then by the power vested in me I pronounce you wife and wife."
We sealed the deal with a long and deep kiss as everyone started cheering around us. I didn't care what happened next as long as I was with the person I loved it didn't matter. And hopefully after reading my letter Aang will realize we'll never be an item and find someone else. As for my father... well I couldn't care what he thinks. Now all I had to do is enjoy my honeymoon with my wife.
That's it, hope you enjoyed reading this.
