She deserve better.

'I know', he thought to himself as he walked back to the hospital to sit with Kaede.

What life can you offer her?

'A good one? I hope.'

You're not ever sure. You should just give up.

'Why?' he asked desperately.

Because. You were born a half-breed, you will die a half-breed and only your fleas will mourn you.

'But why?' he tried again.

Because you were never supposed to be born. Why would anyone want to be with an abomination?

And with that he ducked his head as he entered Kaede's room. The words kept repeating over in his head.

What could he offer Kagome? Did he have a right to love her? Could she love him in return? Why wasn't he allowed to be happy?

"No one is going to hurt me" her voice rang through his head.

"Because you won't let it," she had stated as if it were true.

He couldn't understand where her confidence in him came from. When all the voices and past experience had told him otherwise, this one girl believed in him. Now the question seemed to be if the belief she had in him will get her kill…or could they live that happy life that he wanted.

'You're only fooling yourself' the voice couldn't seem to stay quiet.

'You know how this is going to end' another charmed in.

'Why?' he thought desperately, 'why can't you just leave me alone?'

'What fun would that be?' The voices seem to taunt as he was tried frantically to shut out the voices.

But the thoughts would not end. They lasted all through the night. The madness in his mind did not stop until daylight shined into the room. When the sunrise, that was when he was able to drift off into an uneasy sleep.

He stirred when a hand gently shook him awake. Opening his eyes slowly, he came face to face with Kaede, who had concern expression on her face as she took in his appearance.

"Have ye been here all night?" she asked.

"Mostly," he shifted uncomfortable under her glaze.

"Ye should have gone home. Ye knew I was fine." she said.

"I know…but I was worried…"he said softly before trailing off.

"About what?" she asked softly watching him closely.

Sitting on the bed next to her, he grabbed her hand lightly in his, "I don't know what I would do if I lost you."

A smile spread across the old woman's face as she took his hand in hers.

"Inuyasha, you will never lose me. I will always be in your heart. Plus I'm not ready to die yet." she added lightly but it didn't seem to get rid of the hunted look that stayed in his eyes.

"What is really wrong?" she asked turning he face up to look at her when he had become too interested in the floor.

"It's just I don't know what to do. I want to have a family and live in peace. But it seems like every time its going good something happens to someone I love…" he trailed off.

"Are ye worried about Kagome?" she asked.

"Yes. No. Sort of. And you too." he said uneasily.

"Why?" she pressed softly.

"Look at what happen to my mom and you. I know that I can't always protect the ones that I love. But I should be able to save them from this kind of fate." he said.

"Inuyasha, this is not ye fault." Kaede started as Inuyasha looked away again.

"How can you say that?" he asked desperately, "If it wasn't for me. You would be home right now, safe. It was because of me that you are here."

All of the weight and guilt seemed to just come out at once. He could not take it anymore. Why was the ones that he loved getting punish for loving him back. Why couldn't he just be happy with them?

"Inuyasha…Inuyasha look at me." Kaede stated and waited until she had his full attention.

"Ye need to stop looking on the negative side of everything. If it wasn't for ye, I wouldn't have made it this far. I am an old woman and ye have been very helpful to me…"

"And if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have been in here." He interrupted.

"Ye are right." She said as he ducked his head, "I would still be lying on my floor."

That got his attention, "What do you mean. It was my fault that they came after you."

"No, bad stuff happens in the world everyday. This would have happen regardless if you were involved or not. The event would have happen, it's just the outcome that would have changed." she stated.

"I don't understand."

"If it wasn't for ye, I would have no one. No one would have looked for me. No one would have cares about an old woman. It was because of ye that I am still here. It is because of you that I have made it this far. Ye are a special young man that ye have yet to seen. Though that does not mean that I haven't seen what ye could be and who ye are." She finish as she started to close her eyes.

Talking about all this seem to be too much for the old woman that she needed to take a little rest. Inuyasha sat back, letting her rest as he sunk deep into thought. Everything seemed to be playing over in his head. And for once the voices were quiet.

Maybe everything can be alright. Maybe he could live in peace with both Kaede and Kagome. Maybe it would all be fine.

So it only took me forever. I am trying to get the next chapter to Not Supposed To Be, so keep a look out. And hopefully I won't take so long for new chapters. As always, I don't own Inuyasha and friends.
