Chapter 9
I looked at the book he was reading and saw it was one of my favorite books. I had reread it so many times, I almost had it memorized.
"Hey, is it your first time reading that book?" I asked.
"No, it's one of my favorites and I'm just rereading it again."
"It's one of my favorites, too. Don't you hate the plot twist, where everyone's a double spy for different murder companies and everything falls apart, because she ran out of ideas."
"Yeah, it was a good idea, but she couldn't take it further ahead, and the details were horrible. The book went downhill, but then she made it soar right back to the top."
We continued in this manner. We fangirled over the book. We would squeal so loud or scream YASSS and people would look at us as if we had two heads.
The sun was orange before the book had been thoroughly discussed. I hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast. I then remembered the bread I had gotten from Teto. And I remembered my probably hungry cat. I'd have to get home soon and see if I could find a book about cat care taking.
"Hey, I have some bread we can split." I said. I pulled out the long baguette and split it in half.
His eyes were wide. Probably wondering how I could fit such a big baguette in the bag.
"Thanks." He said.
We hastily devoured the delicious baguette. Like always, Teto had the art of bread making down.
"So, do you really like reading?" I asked.
"Yes, it is a great way to escape from everyday problems. You can be anywhere, see everyone. Plus, it's fun to ship people and then they turn out together."
"Yeah, I know what you mean, books are powerful. Their details are precise and you can see this world. Everyone's world is different, special. I like to draw how I see the characters and places in the book."
"Are you an artist?" He asked curious.
"Yes, though I don't like to share it much, I don't like everyone staring at me like that."
"Can you bring a drawing of the main character from the book?"
"Sure." I looked outside, the sun was going down and the cat was beginning to squirm.
"I have to leave. You want to meet here tomorrow when the sun is orange?"
"Sure."
With this I walked home. The cold enveloped me. I walked faster. The cat was hungry and was meowing loudly.
I keep walking until I reach the bridge and I cross to the gate. The guard lets me in. I take off my eyes. A creepy feeling is in the air, like someone is watching me.
I walk in and go to the library. The library is a big room with all books, of different size and color. I go to animal care and grab a book labeled cats.
It has a red spine with gold all over it in vines. I grab the beautiful, heavy book and run to my room.
I can't let anyone know I have a cat. They will think I will sacrifice it or something. So I make a spot for the cat in the corner hidden by a curtain.
It's a red curtain and I put a bed and blankets with it.
I plop on my bed and open the book. I read the pages and find stuff that I could feed my cat. I leave my room and lock the door.
I walk briskly down the halls and arrive at the kitchen. Everyone eats at different times on open days. Len is already in there taking a sandwich into the dining hall and Luka is making an omelette.
I walk past Len as he exits and he his eyes are narrowed. Instead on making a comment like I normally would, I walk past and grab some random stuff that the book said was okay.
Luka stares as I walk past with these random food items. I briskly walk past Len who is eating in the dining hall.
"Aren't you going to eat in here?" He asked.
I don't have it in me to put up my mask right now. "No, I am going to eat them elsewhere." I continue and walk down the hall, opening my door and locking it.
I take the food to the corner and pull aside the curtain. The little gray cat is waiting patiently, lying down.
I set the food down and remember water. The cat must be thirsty. I bring out the water pouch I'd been carrying and pull a bowl out of my bag. I put the water in it and watch the cat eat.
I plop down on my bed and roll over to the night stand and grab a locked box off the top. I grabbed the key from under my pillow and opened it. I pulled a picture out of the main character. It looks very life-like. Like she was about to pull out her gun.
I grab some water color and a brush and get it ready. I color in the picture and add in shadows. Trying to make it look like you had taken a picture of the main character and this was the picture.
I hang it on a clip on hook on the wall. Perfect.
I plop down in my bed and fall asleep like I was.
