"I live over that way.", Bonnie rememberred Marceline say.

She followed 46'th Street down until she saw Marcy's motorcycle outside of what had to be Marcy's apartment building, a chocolate brown high-rise. Next to the 'Abadeer' bell was a small picture of a skull. This had to be her bell. She was buzzed in by Marcy, who thought lt was her dad & was quite surprised, as he usually came home very late. Bonnie went up the stairs to the fourth floor & knocked on the door.

'My dad wouldn't knock. Who could that be? Nobody knows my address. It's probably just Jehovah's Witnesses. They'll go away in a few minutes.'.

Bonnie persisted, appearring more sad by the second.

'Hmm?'.

Marcy finally opened the door, without asking who lt was or even checking the peephole. She was surprised to see Bonnie, standing there in sadness.

"Bonnie, what are you doing here? What happened?", Marcy asked, still dazed at the fact that Bonni was able to find her.
"Marceline, they don't accept.".
"Well, why the Hell not? Do they hate you?".
"They said noone would accept & that lt's not meant to be.", Bonni said, whilst questioning the validity of the statement. "They said we'd just be jeopardizing our friendship by staying together.".

Marceline was quiet for a moment.

'Dang. Now I'm crying too'. People will never accept us. Maybe they're right. Maybe I'm holding Bonnibel back from real happiness.'.
"Bonnie. Honestly, I think they're right. They're your mom & dad. You should listen to them.".
"What? You're breaking up with me?", Bonnibel asked, no longer sure where she stood in this conundrum.

Bonnibel had to acknowledge the hard question: 'Should we break up?'.
"No! Ofcourse not! We do this as a team. If you want us to stay together, then we'll fight to the end. I'll go through all of Hell for you, Bonnibel. If you want to break up, I will understand & respect your decision. Whatever you do, whatever you decide, I'm with you on. In my opinion, lf everyone at school & even your parents don't accept, then maybe lt's not meant to be. Sometimes, you gotta listen to your enemies. They can't always be wrong. If we do break up, we can still be friends, best friends, always. They didn't say anything about that. It's not like we'll have to separate. I'm not going anywhere. So lt might be for the best. We can still hang out. We can still hug. Friends hug, right? It's up to you, Bonnie. Do you really want to give up everything, throw your whole life away... for me?".

Her words stirred up a lot of feelings in Bonnibel & she just didn't know right from wrong anymore. It was hard to know or think anything with all of the intense emotions taking center-stage.

"Please, give me a day to think about lt. This is an ultimatum.".
"Absolutely. I swear that I will be cool with whatever decision you make. I just don't want anything to happen that would force us apart. But no matter what, I'll always...".

She stopped.

'Whoa. It's coming out already. There's no better a time than now. Finish the sentence, Marceline.', Marceline thought.
"...I'll always love you, Bonnibel.".

That did lt. Bubblegum could no longer hold back tears. She was bawling as she & Marceline embraced in a tight, loving hug.

"I-I-I love you too', Marceline. I'm glad that we feel the same way. Goodbye for now. I'll be back tomorrow with my choice.".

And with that, the pink-haired princess was gone, leaving Marceline all alone.

Marceline had tried to be mature & do what's best for Bonnibel, but the truth was that she wanted more than anything for them to stay together. The truth was that she was terrified they wouldn't.

Meanwhile, at the mansion:

"I can't help but feel terrible. We did the right thing, right honey?", Bonnibel's mother said to her father.
"Yes. We must have. Her life would be ruined. She already has the whole school talking about her; & I'm sure they're not saying anything nice.".

Bonnibel's mother had heard from some friends that their children were talking about two girls kissing. It was rather nondescript, so she didn't know what the students were saying, whether lt was good or bad. But the names were mentioned: Bubblegum & Abadeer. Her friends assumed there was something wrong with the two, some sort of shared psychiatric disorder. But she found herself feeling angry about that.

Peppermint Butler had been listening to the conversation & really sympathized with Bonni. He knew her well enough to know that she was completely serious, this was no Spring fling. He was a bit hurt that Bonni never told him, but he understood that lt was a tough thing to talk about. She had only done so now because of the situation at school, he figured. He decided to take her side & help them see reason.

"Master Bubblegum, lf I may, a word of advice?".
"Ofcourse, Peppermint.".
"Those tears were real. You claim she is misguided, but lt is clear that she truly & deeply cares about this Marceline. It is true that they are both girls, but what difference does that make in the grand scheme? Why cannot two people love one another? Semantics aside, that's all lt is, people trying to light candles in the dark. The world wants to snuff out all the love & replace lt with hate. That she loves is a wonderful thing. What lf your mother & father didn't allow you to be with your wife? How would you feel then? Perhaps, you should rethink your decision.", said Peppermint, as though he had been there himself.
"Even still, her life would be ruined. I couldn't let that happen to my princess.".
"I'll just say this, Master Bubblegum: Some people are worth losing everything for.".

Peppermint left to do house chores as his words sunk in. Master Bubblegum stared out the window, wonderring what to do.
