Last time on Deity: We learn who Lilly is in love with. And just what was the information Hidashi gave to Xavier?

Chapter 20- Training session gone awry

Rogue, Jean and Kitty walked up to Lilly.

"Like, how are you?" Kitty asked.

"Better," Lilly answered.

"Good. We were just going to go to the danger room to train. Would you like to come along?" Jean asked.

"Are you sure? What if I can't control it?"

"It's okay. We like, totally got your back. We'll make sure nothing bad happens," Kitty said.

"Okay then," Lilly responded.

The four girls went to the danger room to practice. Lilly was actually doing very well controlling her powers. She tended to stay away from the fire and storms, and focused primarily on growing things, and creating tall, aggressive vines and huge boulders to hurl at her enemies.

"Tha' trainin' with tha Professor looks like it's payin' off," Rogue said.

"Thank you, I think so too," Lilly replied. She had just dodged another attack from her artificial enemy when she felt it. It was like a very powerful psychic blast went through her mind, sending her to her knees. It was almost like the sound of a baby's screech, or even like nails on a chalkboard. It reverberated through her entire body.

"Jean!" Kitty yelled. Lilly looked up to see Jean floating in the air, her hair flying every way, and items from the danger room circling around her. Her face was contorted in agony and when she opened her eyes, they looked empty and blank.

"Professor!" Lilly sent telepathically.

"We're on our way. Try to calm her down as best as you can. You can do it, I believe in you," Xavier sent back.

"Jean. It's okay, we're here, calm down," Lilly tried to send to Jean's mind, hoping that Jean was able to hear her, and that it would calm her down. What she saw in Jean's mind was chaos and confusion. Then she saw a huge bird made of fire, calling itself Phoenix force. It looked Lilly in the eyes and Lilly found that her mind froze. She didn't know what to do, all she felt was an intense and powerful force judging her. Then it blasted Lilly out of Jean's mind, sending her into one of the nearby walls, knocking her out.

"Lilly! Oh no, this ain't good. We gotta do somethin'," Rogue said.

"Like what?" Kitty questioned.

Kitty phased though a few of the objects flying towards her due to Jean's telekinesis. Rogue got hit by one of the objects, and was sent flying into a wall, knocked unconscious. Kitty kept phasing though objects, until she lost control for a split second, and was knocked out by a flying object. Jean screamed, trying her hardest to send the Phoenix back to its hidden chambers in her mind. Then she felt him enter her mind. Xavier was putting the barricades he had put there once before, into repair. She screamed as the Phoenix tried to fight back, causing them both pain. She felt the presence of the Phoenix fade before she passed out, collapsing onto the ground. The other three girls woke up just as the guys came in.

"Ugh, what happened?" Rogue asked.

"Everyone okay?" Logan questioned.

"A little headache, but nothing like, major," Kitty answered. Rogue and Lilly nodded in agreement. Scott carried Jean to the infirmary, where Hank checked on her, and the rest went their separate ways. Later that day, Lilly went to visit Xavier.

"Professor?"

"Yes Lilly? Come in. What can I do for you?"

"It's about Jean, and what I saw," Lilly said.

"I know. When I first met Jean, I had come into contact with it, and then did research after that. It seems that it is a powerful source that calls itself 'Phoenix Force' or often just 'Phoenix'."

"What is the Phoenix?" Lilly questioned.

"The Phoenix is a powerful...entity, if you will, that feeds off of strong telepathic minds. Every few hundred years, it's said that the Phoenix chooses a host telepath to...dig its claws into," Xavier explained, rather vaguely.

"And it's chosen Jean? How come?"

"I fear it's because she has the potential to become one of the strongest telepaths on this planet."

"So what's going to happen now?" Lilly continued to ask.

"I've re-administered her mental barriers, but I can feel the Phoenix's power growing. Soon it will consume her. I'm trying to find a way to stop it, and when I do, I will let you all know what is going on," Xavier explained.

"Okay Professor. If you need any help, I am here for you and her," Lilly stated.

"Thank you," Xavier said.
