The next morning Gibbs was at the hospital fifteen minutes before visiting hours. He wanted to be at his boy's side as soon as he could. With any luck this latest plea would actually carry through and Tony would finally come back to him. At this point he was so desperate he would give up his own life to bring his boy back. He found himself in his regular place by Tony's bed cupping his hand between his hands.
"Tony please just come back. I am not like your father. I don't blame you for Jenny. She was sick and dying anyway. She wanted it to end the way it did. In the diner in a blaze of glory. Now in the prison that her body would have become. She knew that if you and Ziver had been there. Either you would have saved her or worse you guys would have died too. She would have never been able to handle it if you guys died and she lived with her illness. Anything else you are holding on to that is not your fault either. You are a hero DiNozzo. You are one of the good ones and the world needs you, Sadie needs you, I need you. Don't think that you will get rid of me in death because if you die I will blow my brains out right here and be back with you before you even settle things with St. Peter. So stop being such a DiNozzo and come back to me." Gibbs ordered.
Shortly after giving his order to Tony. Dr. Pitt came in along with whoever was treating Tony this time and took Tony back for tests. Gibbs reluctantly decided that he needed a fresh cup of coffee and made his way down to the cafeteria. When he stepped in the cafeteria he saw Jimmy sitting at the center table. The kid looked like he had gotten the same amount sleep the night before as he had. Maybe even less. Gibbs hoped that didn't mean that something had happened to Breena. He poured himself a cup of plain black coffee, tossed a couple of bucks down on the counter for the cashier, picked up his change, and took the seat in front of Jimmy.
"Hey kid" Gibbs greeted.
"Oh hi Gibbs." Jimmy sighed.
"Everything OK?" Gibbs asked.
"Breena... Breena might have cancer." Jimmy sighed.
"What? Where?" Gibbs questioned.
"She was having pain last night. So they did a full body scan and they found this mass on her liver. They are going in for an exploratory in an hour." Jimmy explained.
"What would her chances be if it is cancer?" Gibbs asked.
"Well they say they caught it early and it should be a fairly easy mass to remove. If they can get the whole thing and it is positive they will do preventative chemo and that she should be OK. If it is benign well then she will be OK when she heals." Jimmy explained.
"I will be with Tony all day. Come and get me if you need me." Gibbs replied.
"Thanks Gibbs" Jimmy replied.
"Anytime kid, I owe you for giving Tony that order." Gibbs replied.
"But he didn't wake up." Jimmy argued.
"I know but he didn't die either." Gibbs replied taking the last sip of his coffee.
Gibbs tossed his empty coffee cup in the trash can on the way out of the cafeteria and then he made his way back to his boy. The conversation he had just had with Palmer echoed in his ears. Breena may be facing a serious and horrible illness. That settled it Tony had to get his ass out of that coma and back to his family. Despite all his wishing and begging when he opened the door to his boy's room. Tony was still lying on the bed with his eyes closed and the ventilator was doing a lot of his breathing for him. He fell into his seat and picked up Tony's hand in his. This had better be the last time he was in this place. If Tony didn't wake up before the end of visiting hours. Gibbs was going to get McGee to shrink him down and he would go into his boy and bring his ass back himself. He had not left his boy's side in five hours and was just about to get up and go grab some lunch and use the bathroom. When he felt a squeezing on his top hand. His heart leaped, could Tony be waking up? No this had to be too good to be true. Then it happened the most wonderful thing he could imagine happened. He looked down and was greeted by Tony's emerald-green eyes looking back up at him.
"Tony?" Gibbs called.
Tony nodded.
"You have a ventilator in." Gibbs explained.
Tony nodded again.
"Do you think you can breathe without it?" Gibbs asked.
Tony nodded again.
"OK I will call for somebody to take it out." Gibbs said.
Tony made a feeble attempt to smile with the vent.
Jimmy was growing restless. Breena had been in surgery for hours and he had not heard anything. Every time he heard a sound he jumped expecting it to be a code for the operating room where Breena was having her surgery. He had already lost her twice in two days. They had been through so much. How much more could they endure? More importantly how much more could she endure? Finally the big double doors swung open and the surgeon who had taken Breena back four and a half hours earlier approached him.
"Jimmy?" Dr. Tomas called.
"How is she?" Breena asked.
"Breena came through the operation with flying colors." Dr. Tomas replied.
"What about the tumor?" Jimmy asked.
"We were able to remove the whole mass. Luckily the mass was at the top corner of the liver because we had to remove a small portion of the organ to make sure the tumor would not grow back but it was a small enough amount that the lost tissue will regenerate." Dr. Tomas explained.
"Is it cancerous?" Jimmy asked.
"We won't know until we get the results back from the lab but we are all cautiously optimistic that it is benign." Dr. Tomas explained.
"Can I see her?" Jimmy asked.
"She should be waking up any time, follow me." Dr. Tomas replied.
"Thank you so much doctor." Jimmy replied.
Gibbs shook his head at his boy's well Tonyness and pressed the call button. A few moments later Dr. Pitt entered the room along with Dr. Carson. Dr. Pitt removed the vent from Tony's throat but left a portable oxygen tank in the room just to be safe. Neither doctor stayed long as they both knew how much Gibbs wanted to talk with Tony again.
"Welcome back, Tony." Gibbs greeted.
"Where was I?" Tony joked.
"You were in a coma for four days." Gibbs replied.
"Where are Breena and Sadie?" Tony asked.
"Breena is here but Sadie is with Abby." Gibbs explained.
"Are they OK?" Tony asked.
"Sadie is bruised up a bit but Breena lost the baby." Gibbs explained.
"No! Poor Jimmy! He must hate me!" Tony cried.
"He doesn't hate you. He hate's Senior because he took Breena too." Gibbs replied.
"What did he do to them?" Tony asked.
"He knocked Sadie around pretty good. That's why she is bruised up but he tried to rape Breena he wasn't successful but he came close." Gibbs explained.
"Oh God! Poor Breena!" Tony cried.
"She is OK. She is getting psychological care and Jimmy is with her." Gibbs explained.
"If he didn't hurt her. Why is she still here then?" Tony asked.
"She may have cancer and don't you dare try blaming yourself for that because that was in her body long before you. If anything you helped them catch it before it got to bad." Gibbs explained.
"When can I see Sadie?" Tony asked.
"I will speak with Dr. Carson and Dr. Pitt and get back to you." Gibbs replied.
"Thanks" Tony replied.
"Hey I would give anything to be with my baby girl again. So I will make sure that your baby girl is back with you." Gibbs explained.
"What about Senior what did you do to him?" Tony asked.
"I shot that bastard when I found him naked holding Breena with Sadie cowering in the corner of a shed." Gibbs explained.
"Alright Boss." Tony chuckled.
"Anymore questions?" Gibbs asked.
"Are you my real dad?" Tony asked.
"In the sense that I am the one who is always there when you need me and I love you with my whole heart yes. As a blood related father no." Gibbs explained.
"I can live with that." Tony replied smiling and falling back asleep. This time Gibbs knew that he would be awake within a few hours.
A/N: Tony is finally awake. There will be news on Breena and a reunion with Tony and Sadie and maybe Tony and Ziva in the next chapter. New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
