For the third time in three or four no five days Jimmy was in the surgical waiting room. Waiting to hear news on Breena. That was far too many times in his opinion. Once would have been more than enough. This surgery was to hopefully rid her body of infection. Unfortunately that meant the removal of her uterus and part of her liver. The infection had spread fast but with how fragile Breena was at this time. It wasn't too big of a shock. The doctors theorized that the infection was already setting in her uterus when they began the surgery to remove the tumor. It spread to her liver as well. Before Breena was even taken back. Jimmy was warned that her liver may begin to fail as result of all the stress. He had wanted to scream. Hadn't she been through enough? All because of Senior she had lost her baby and now would never be able to carry another one and she was losing part of her liver. OK he couldn't really blame Senior for that one. Since there was a good chance that if it weren't for his attack, the tumor would have grown and she would have lost a larger chunk of the organ in the first place maybe even the whole thing. Jimmy didn't know how many hours passed while Breena was in surgery. One minute she was rushed back and he was falling on to a chair and the next thing he knew. The surgeon he had spoken to before the operation was back in the waiting room looking for him.
"Jimmy Palmer?" Dr. Robert's asked.
"Yes" Jimmy replied.
"Breena is out of surgery and been moved into a recovery room." Dr. Roberts replied.
"How is she?" Jimmy asked.
"She came through as well as to be expected. The good news is we were able to save her fallopian tubes and ovaries. So even though she cannot bare children of her own. You two can still have biological children. With the use of a surrogate." Dr. Roberts explained.
"What about the liver?" Jimmy asked.
"We did not have to remove near as much as we thought. We got away with only removing a fourth of the organ including what was removed during the operation to remove the tumor." Dr. Roberts explained.
"May I see her?" Jimmy asked.
"She should be waking up at any time. If you come with me I will take you to her room. We want to put her in the ICU at least overnight but she may be back in a regular room by morning." Dr. Roberts explained.
"How long can I see her in the ICU?" Jimmy asked.
"Fifteen minutes to half an hour is the standard time we allow and she will only be permitted two visitors at a time." Dr. Roberts replied.
Jimmy walked with Dr. Roberts to Breena's recovery room. He didn't like that they were putting her in the ICU but knew that she did need to be watched extra closely. She had been cut open three times in four days. At this point he should just be lucky that she was even still alive. He just hoped that this was the end of this ordeal. Her body could not take much more before it finally couldn't fight anymore and he could not take much more before he broke down. Seeing Breena in pain and knowing that he could not do anything to stop it even though he was a doctor. Was the worst feeling in the world. Ducky had warned him about those feelings when it came to family. Long before he even started medical school but this was the first time he ever felt it. When he got to Breena's room. He wanted to cry. She looked so small and frail under all the tubes and wires. He should have been used to it. She had been on and off machines for the past five days but this was a new level of terrifying. This time there was a real good chance that she would never wake up. That she would simply be too weak to fight anymore. He knew from the look in Dr. Roberts eyes that even the doctors were concerned about that outcome. They just didn't want to upset him by saying that. He sat down by his wife's side and waited. Finally just before Breena was set to be moved back to the ICU. Her eyes opened.
"Breena are you awake?" Jimmy asked.
"What happened?" Breena questioned.
"You had a really bad infection." Jimmy explained.
"Am I OK now?" Breena asked.
"Hopefully but they want to keep a close watch on you for a while. They are going to move you to the ICU soon." Jimmy replied.
"Why did I have surgery?" Breena asked.
"The infection was in your uterus and liver. You still have most of your liver but they had to take your uterus. You still have your fallopian tubes and ovaries though." Jimmy explained.
"I'm sorry" Breena sobbed.
"It's not your fault. Senior did this to you and Gibbs did the right thing by shooting him. I just wish I could have gotten my hands on him first." Jimmy assured.
"It wouldn't have made this un-happen. So don't beat yourself up." Breena replied.
After having to talk Tony out of suicide. Gibbs decided that there was no way he was leaving his boy's side that night. Abby had agreed to stay with Sadie and he had charmed the nurses into turning their heads on his violation of visiting hours. It wasn't that hard really. Everybody saw how much better Tony did not only physically but mentally as well when he had his dad by his side. Gibbs just hoped that he wouldn't have to talk Tony down again. Early in the morning or late at night. He would do it though. He would never sleep or be alone again. If it kept Senior from winning. Tony had fallen asleep not long after Gibbs and Dr. Pitt had gotten him back to his room. Tony looked so peaceful when he slept. It allowed Gibbs to briefly forget the events of the evening. Suddenly Tony began stirring in the bed and seemed distraught. Gibbs felt his heart speed up in his chest. It couldn't be happening again could it?
"I don't want to go." Tony moaned,
"Go where?" Gibbs asked.
"I don't want to leave Sadie. I am sorry I take it back." Tony sobbed.
"TONY!" Gibbs yelled shaking Tony's shoulders. Immediately realizing that Tony was having a nightmare.
"What?" Tony asked groggily.
"It's OK it was just a dream." Gibbs assured.
"Thanks for having my six dad." Tony replied before falling back into a peaceful sleep.
A/N: Tony finally see's that he is needed. Hopefully Breena will be on the road to recovery soon as well. New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
