Jimmy looked through his windshield at the sign "DC Children's Home". This was the place where he was going to pick up his little girl. Suddenly he was questioning his choice. What if he was making a mistake? What if he couldn't be a single father? What if he broke down over the loss of Breena and hurt the child? Of course he would never dream of harming a child physically but being lost in your own grief could do mental damage. This little girl had already endured more than her share of emotional trauma. Finally he couldn't be afraid anymore. He got out of the car and made his way to the building. He opened the door and saw a tall slender woman who must have been the social worker and Jan standing in front of the front desk waiting for him. The social worker was holding a little girl with curly red hair and big blue eyes.
"Sorry I'm late." Jimmy apologized.
"That is quite alright. We were a little delayed ourselves." The social worker assured.
"I am surprised you went to work today Jimmy." Jan commented.
"I am glad you understand. I'm Jimmy by the way." Jimmy introduced.
"I am Polly and this is Emma." Polly replied.
"Well it is very nice to meet you Emma." Jimmy introduced.
"Hi Jimmy!" Emma cooed.
"I am your new daddy. I can't wait to take you home and be a family." Jimmy replied.
"Where's mommy?" Emma asked.
"Uh well Emma you see." Jan explained nervously.
"You don't have a mommy. It is just going to be the two of us but I promise to love you enough for two parents." Jimmy explained.
"OK" Emma replied.
"James you need to go and fill out some paperwork and then you can take little Emma home." Jan explained.
"I can do that." Jimmy replied.
Tony ran his hands through Ziva's hair. He was supposed to be getting clothes that Sadie had either outgrown or never wore to take over to Jimmy's for his new daughter but he couldn't resist his fiancée. She had woken up long enough to remind him that sex was on the not allowed list of her bed-rest rules but he didn't want to have sex with her. Not right now anyway. Right now he just wanted to hold her and thank God she and the baby were still alive. He noticed she had some color back. She was still pale but she didn't look like a ghost anymore. She snuggled up closer to her. She was so warm and perfect. It was so surreal not having her beside him the past two nights. He moved his hands down from her hair to her stomach and cupped them around where her uterus should be. He couldn't wait until the baby was big enough to be felt and noticeable from the outside. Now it was just a small bump only visible when Ziva was shirtless or wearing a tight-fitting top.
"Tony! You almost ready?!" Gibbs called from downstairs.
"Ready for what?" Ziva asked.
"I was kind of supposed to be getting some of Sadie's old clothes to give to Jimmy." Tony explained.
"Why does Jimmy need Sadie's clothes?" Ziva asked.
"He is adopting a two-year old girl and we thought some of Sadie's stuff may fit him." Tony replied.
"Well good for Jimmy but won't Sadie need those clothes?" Ziva asked.
"She has outgrown some stuff and when I was sick Gibbs took her on Saturday outings if the team wasn't working. One day he took her to Sears and she has been his mini me ever since." Tony explained.
"Would you prefer she liked baby Armani?" Ziva questioned.
"No I actually think her style is adorable but there is some stuff she won't wear now." Tony explained.
Gibbs looked at his watch. They had arrived home at five thirty and it was now almost seven. He had told Jimmy that he would be over almost an hour ago. Finally he'd had enough and walked upstairs. He peaked in Sadie's room and saw her sitting on the floor playing with her baby doll. Tony was nowhere to be seen. He grunted and walked next-door to Tony and Ziva's room. He peaked in the partially opened door and found Tony lying on the bed holding Ziver in his arms. They were so sweet it was hard to be mad at Tony for not doing what he was told.
"I hate to interrupt your snuggle time but it is getting late Tony." Gibbs explained.
"Oh crap I didn't realize how late it was." Tony apologized.
"I understand but get a move on. I at least want to be able to drop the stuff off on Jimmy's porch. It gets much later even that will be rude." Gibbs explained.
Jimmy rocked Emma on the couch. She had been in his life five hours and he was already in love. He just wished that Breena was alive to see her. She would have adored her. Emma was even one of the names they had thought of for Angela. When she was going to be born strong and healthy instead of cold and lifeless.
"Jimmy?" Emma asked innocently.
"Why don't I have a mommy?" Emma asked.
"The truth is you should have a mommy. I was married to an amazing woman named Breena. Who wanted nothing more than a child but she was got really sick and had to go to heaven." Jimmy explained remembering how Tony had explained Breena's death to Sadie.
"What was wrong?" Emma asked.
"That is a story for when you are a little older." Jimmy replied.
"OK" Emma replied.
"You have anymore questions?" Jimmy asked.
"No" Emma replied.
"Great but let me know if you do." Jimmy replied.
"OK" Emma replied.
"I love you, Emma." Jimmy said.
"Love you, Jimmy." Emma replied.
A/N: Hopefully Emma can bring Jimmy some peace. New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
