Amira's cries were breaking Tony's heart. He wished that he could help the little girl but suddenly he was dizzy and weak. God, he hoped he wasn't getting sick already. If he showed any symptoms of pneumonia they would keep him in the hospital until he was cleared. If he did end up with that he could end up stuck at Bethesda for days. Yet another a fun after effect of the plague. Having to be constantly checked out and seek medical care for even the slightest illness that could cause further damage to his lungs. He didn't want to be away from his girls for that long. Not when they both needed him so much. When he looked up again McGee was leading a still sobbing Amira to the car. McGee returned a few seconds later and sat down beside his partner.
"You OK, Tony?" McGee asked.
"I don't know, Probie." Tony admitted.
"It's OK the paramedics will be here soon." McGee assured.
"I'm don't want to go to the hospital. I want Gibbs." Tony replied.
"OK I will call Gibbs." McGee assured.
"Tell him to hurry. I don't want to be in the ambulance alone." Tony begged.
"Tony the ambulance will be here anytime now. It's too late." McGee explained.
"Please Probie I am so scared." Tony confessed.
"OK Tony I will see what I can do." McGee assured now he was really freaked out. Tony wasn't exactly the type to admit when he was afraid or vulnerable.
"Thanks Probie" Tony replied.
Gibbs was pacing back and forth on Judy's living room floor. The LEO's had told him just to stay put until they found Amira. That way if she decided to come back she wouldn't come home to an empty house. When his phone started to ring. He ducked into the kitchen and picked up his phone.
"Hello?"
"Boss it's me McGee?"
"Make it quick. I need to keep this line clear in case they find Amira."
"We found her Tony and I found her. I am taking her to Bethesda to get checked out."
"What about Tony?"
"What about Tony?"
"Where is he? You said that you both found Amira but now you are saying that just you is taking her to get checked out."
"Tony cut his hand when I came in to get him and he was bleeding really bad and Ducky told me to take him to the hospital. While we were driving their he spotted Amira. She had fallen into the water. Tony jumped out of the car and dived in after her. When he got out he was bleeding even worse, coughing, and he just didn't seem right. I called him an ambulance and they rushed him to Bethesda but he is really scared."
"How do you know he is scared?"
"He told me."
"Wait Tony told you he was scared?"
"Uh yea"
"I am leaving for Bethesda now!"
Ziva sensed that something was very wrong. Ducky wouldn't tell her what was going on but she knew it must be huge if McGee came to pick Tony up. She wished that she could get out of bed and go help them with whatever case they were working. Even the few hours she was out of bed the day before were harder on her than she cared to admit. She heard Ducky's phone ring from down the hall where the doctor was moving Sadie's kiddie toys around to make room for Amira. She could hear the older man answer and then start talking barely above a whisper. After a while he opened the door, came into the room, and sat down beside her on the bed.
"What's going on Ducky?" Ziva asked.
"I don't want to concern you Ziva but I am afraid that Anthony has been admitted to Bethesda." Ducky replied.
"Why?" Ziva asked.
"It seems that he found young Amira drowning in the water near the docks and after he dove in after her he seemed unwell to Timothy. He also suffered a pretty serious cut to his hand." Ducky explained.
"No" Ziva moaned.
"Please do not worry Ziva. I am sure that he will be just fine but it is better to be safe than sorry. Especially when it comes to Anthony." Ducky assured.
"What if he's not? What if I have to raise this baby alone?" Ziva asked.
"Anthony is strong. He won't give up without putting up one hell of a fight." Ducky assured.
Tony woke up alone in a room at Bethesda. He should have known that Gibbs wouldn't come. Amira needed him more and she was just a child after all. A child who was about to be orphaned. Tony was a grown-man. A grown-man who was way too old to be afraid of the hospital. Not long after he woke-up Dr. Pitt came into the room and started checking him over. At least he was being treated by the same doctor who had treated him for the plague and knew just how much of a coward he was.
"So how am I doc?" Tony asked.
"Well when you were admitted you were slightly congested and showed no sign of pneumonia but you have become drastically worse since then. I am ordering a second x-ray." Dr. Pitt explained.
"If I am clear do I get to go home?" Tony asked.
"Yes but Gibbs has to promise to bring you right back in if you have anymore trouble." Dr. Pitt replied.
"Gibbs isn't going to take care of me." Tony replied.
"Why not? Did you guys have a fight?" Dr. Pitt asked.
"No this friend of his is dying and he is supposed to take care of her little girl but she is a little sick right now and she needs him more." Tony explained.
"I doubt Gibbs would leave you alone in a time like this." Dr. Pitt assured.
"But I am an adult." Tony argued.
"I have a couple of minutes before I need to check another patient. I am going to call Gibbs and clear all this up." Dr. Pitt replied.
A/N: Just to clarify McGee left the windows down for Amira. He just wanted her in the car so she wouldn't be running around when the ambulance came. New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
Happy Thanksgiving! :-)
