Tony dressed himself in the scrubs and surgical mask the nurse provided to him. As he walked into the room another nurse handed him a pair of gloves. He felt almost like a real doctor. Except the doctors actually could save his wife. All he could do was stand beside her and hold her hand. Praying that she managed to come through this. He had no idea what he would do if he lost her. Why did she have to tell the doctors sacrifice her and save the baby. It wasn't like he wanted the baby to die. He didn't want to lose anybody. He was sick of losing people.
"Tony" Ziva asked.
"I'm right here." Tony assured.
"Is our baby OK?" Ziva asked.
"I don't know but I hope so." Tony replied.
Gibbs paced back and forth in the waiting room. He could not believe that down the hall. His son's wife the woman he saw as a daughter was getting and emergency c-section. She was only seven months pregnant and both hers and the baby's lives were in danger. Why did this have to happen to Ziva and Tony? He had always prayed that his children would lose the person they loved or their child like he had and now Tony could lose both. He wished that he could be in the operating room with Tony and Ziver. He wanted to be there and hold their hands while they waited for their baby to be born. He wanted to hear the child's cries. If they were lucky enough to hear him or her cry. More than anything he wanted this to be happening two months down the road because Ziva had gone into labor on her own. Not because she was hemorrhaging and the baby's heart-rate was rapidly dropping. Ducky had come to take Sadie and now he was alone. He closed his eyes and pictured his girls.
"Shannon and Kelly, please watch over Tony, Ziva, and their baby." Gibbs whispered.
Tony looked into Ziva's chocolate brown eyes. They were filled with fear and so dull but she still looked amazing. All he wanted to do was hold her and tell her that she was going to be OK. That there baby was going to be OK but he couldn't mover her and he had no guarantees that they would be OK. Just hours ago everything was so simple. So perfect. They had finally become a family and now two members of that family were about to be ripped away. On the other side of the little curtain the surgeons were cutting into Ziva's abdomen. One of them bent down and removed the baby from Ziva's body.
"What's going on Tony? Why isn't it crying?" Ziva asked.
"I...I don't know." Tony stammered.
"Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs I am sorry but the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. We are going to try to revive him but at his size it may not work." The surgeon explained.
"Please help him." Tony begged.
"We will do what we can." The surgeon replied.
"Oh Tony" Ziva whispered.
The next few minutes passed in a blur. Ziva was wheeled to a regular operating room. While her and Tony's son was brought back to life. Tony wasn't sure if it was minutes or seconds before he heard his son cry but to him it felt like hours. Once he was revived the newest Gibbs was put into a movable incubator crib thing and rushed to the NICU. His son was alive but far from out of the woods and the same could be said about Ziva. Tony stumbled out of the room where Ziva had her c-section and out to the waiting room where Gibbs was sitting.
"How are they?" Gibbs asked.
"Ziva is in surgery to stop the bleeding and our son is in the NICU. He had the cord around his neck and they had to revive him. He still may not survive and he may have severe brain-damage if he does. God, dad I don't know what to do." Tony explained.
"They will be OK. They are strong." Gibbs assured.
"Ziva's strong but she is really sick and our son is just so small. He doesn't even look like a baby. He is red and tiny too tiny and everything is so fragile." Tony rambled.
"Tony listen to me. I know this is scary but you have to be positive." Gibbs replied.
"I can't" Tony replied.
"Please at least try for your family." Gibbs begged.
"I am Boss. God I am trying so hard but I just can't." Tony replied.
"Come here" Gibbs said opening his arms to Tony.
"It's not fair dad! Our son may die and Ziva may lose her ability to have children! If she survives the surgery that is!" Tony sobbed into Gibbs's chest.
The doctors were able to save Ziva's uterus but they made no promises that she would be able to carry anymore children. At least with her Fallopian tubes and ovaries intact they would be able to have the option of using a surrogate. Of course even if they had to do a hysterectomy they would have left her tube and ovaries. It was only in rare occasions that a total hysterectomy was required for placental abruption but sometimes further complications occurred. Tony was just glad that his wife's uterus was spared because it would make the ordeal less traumatic for her. As for their son. He was holding on but his fate was still in the air. Tony waited by his wife's bedside for Ziva to wake up.
"Tony?" Ziva asked.
"Ziva, I am right here." Tony replied.
"How is he?" Ziva asked.
"He is alive but they still don't know if he will make it." Tony replied.
"We need to name him." Ziva replied.
"Are you sure?" Tony asked.
"He needs a name." Ziva replied.
"OK what do you like?" Tony asked.
"Well we had planned on Jackson but we don't have a middle name." Ziva replied.
"How about we make is middle name for the strongest person we know?" Tony suggested.
"Who would that be?" Ziva asked.
"Gibbs, Jackson Jethro Gibbs" Tony replied.
"It's perfect" Ziva agreed.
A/N: Hopefully Jack will be as strong as his namesakes. New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
