Seven months had passed since Jackson Jethro Gibbs had died and the family was slowly starting to rebuild. Sadie had missed two weeks of school and both Tony and Ziva had taken a month off of work. Sadie had wanted to get back to normal as soon as possible. Ziva was now just under nine months pregnant with the third Gibbs child. She had kept it a secret from even Tony until the the twelfth week and they hadn't told Sadie until, she was almost five months along. The others found out not long after that. Abby was a little hurt but McGee understood. Him and Delilah had kept Donny a secret until nearly the sixth month for similar reasons. Jimmy was just always so excited about the prospect of a baby that he hadn't cared when the pregnancy was announced. Unlike with Jack. Tony and Ziva had opted to wait until the birth to find out the gender. All they wanted was a healthy and full-term pregnancy. Now that they were approaching the ninth month they were finally breathing easier and able to be excited about the upcoming arrival. Sadie was excited about the new baby but terrified at the same time. She wanted a healthy little brother or sister that she could teach to do things but at the same time she was scared to death at the prospect of having another sibling with severe problems like Jack had. She learned in science class that woman over thirty five were at an greater risk for pregnancy complications and birth defects. It was a Saturday morning and Sadie was lying on her bed reading one of Ziva's pregnancy magazines. When there was a knock on her door.
"Come in!" Sadie called.
"Sadie you need to get dressed." Tony replied.
"What? Is something wrong with Ziva? Is the baby coming?" Sadie asked.
"No Ziva is fine and the baby is not coming yet." Tony assured.
"Then what's up? It's Saturday." Sadie asked.
"I got a call about an hour ago. Your mother is in town and she wants to see you." Tony explained.
"Ziva is right across the hall." Sadie commented confused.
"No Sadie your mother. Your birth mother." Tony clarified.
"Sherry?" Sadie asked.
"Yes" Tony replied.
"Why? Why now? She hasn't wanted to see me since I was two." Sadie asked.
"I don't know but I told her that we would meet her at the Adams Hotel in an hour." Tony explained.
Sadie could not believe what she had just heard. Her mom, her real mom wanted to meet her. She had been dreaming of this day since she was ten and she first found out that Ziva was not her real mother. McGee had tried to find her but come up empty. Now she was in town and she wanted to meet Sadie. Her mom had left her when she was two but that was in the past and at the time she was better off with her dad. She had always fantasized about meeting her real mother and them bonding. They would never become a family again. Her dad was married to Ziva but maybe her mom was married too. Maybe she would be able to fly off to the west coast for the summers and play with the younger half siblings she had never met before. The Adams hotel was the nicest hotel in DC. Her mom must be doing very well. She could be rich. Spending her summers in a big house with a pool. She jumped out of bed and tossed on her favorite skirt and flower print baby-doll tee. She ran downstairs and then followed her dad out to the car. They pulled into the Adams Hotel. Her dad parked the car and walked her inside. Her dad stood back while she approached the front desk.
"May I help you?" The receptionist asked.
"Yes I am looking for a Sherry Greenberg." Sadie replied.
"Ah you must be Sadie. She is in the dinning room at table 8." The receptionist replied.
Sadie walked into the dining room a matradee asked her who she was looking for. She gave him he mother's name and the table number. The matradee led her to her mom's table. Sadie studied her mother long curly blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Sadie suddenly felt self conscious of her wavy brown locks and green eyes. Her mom was thin with huge breasts. While Sadie was curvy with spuds that had barely grown since she got her training bra in eighth grade and that was nearly two years ago.
"Oh Sadie!" Sherry hollered.
"Hi Ima" Sadie greeted.
"No sweetie my name is Sherry. Sherry." Sherry corrected.
"I know, Ima is the Hebrew word for mother." Sadie explained.
"Hebrew? Is your father Jewish now?" Sherry asked.
"No my step-mother is Jewish. We have been Catholic since I was six." Sadie explained.
"Oh really?" Sherry asked.
"Yes" Sadie replied.
"Tell me more about yourself." Sherry replied.
"Well dad married my step-mom when I was two and we changed our last name to Gibbs. For my surrogate grandfather. I am in the ninth grade and Carter High." Sadie explained.
"Did your dad have more children?" Sherry asked.
"My step-mom is pregnant right now. Due any day actually." Sadie replied.
"Really they waited twelve years to have a baby? Oh sweetie is your father, gay?" Sherry asked.
"No they actually had a son when I was three. The day they got married actually. He came early and had severe cerebral palsy. He died last fall." Sadie explained.
"That's too bad." Sherry replied.
"It is" Sadie replied.
"Anything else?" Sherry asked.
"No. tell me about yourself." Sadie replied.
"Well I was locked up for a few years. Your old man claimed I had abandoned you." Sherry started.
"You left me in a closet." Sadie muttered.
"Anyway after I got out I moved to Washington State. I wanted to continue with law school. I was in my second year when I was arrested but no school would take me. So I worked at a gas station. I got shot twice. Finally I met the man of my dreams an Entrepreneur. We got married three years ago." Sherry explained.
"You got married? May I meet my step-dad?" Sadie asked.
"Oh no honey he and I decided not to have kids and he doesn't exactly know about you. I mean I lost custody when I was arrested. So it's no big secret." Sherry explained.
"You didn't tell your new husband about me?" Sadie asked.
"Well honey what would you chose a mansion, brand new Ferrari every year, millions of dollars, and a engraved Rolex or a kid you didn't want in the first place?" Sherry asked.
"You didn't want me?" Sadie asked.
"Of course not! Why do you think I waited years to meet you?" Sherry asked.
"I don't know? Why did you meet me now if you didn't want me?!" Sadie demanded.
"I was in town and somebody named McGee kept trying to find me to meet you, figured I would finally get him off my back." Sherry explained.
"So you never cared for me?" Sadie asked.
"No I didn't. What are you retarded?" Sherry asked.
Sadie ran out of the hotel room trying to hide her tears. She could not believe what had happened. Her mother. Her own mother never wanted her. Her dream of two families had been shattered. Why did she need two families? Some kids had two families and that was fine for them but she had enough love with just one. She bolted through the revolving door almost knocking her dad down in the process.
"Sadie I was just coming to get you. Your Ziva is in labor." Tony explained.
"She is?" Sadie asked.
"Yes would you like to say goodbye to Sherry real quick?" Tony asked.
"No" Sadie sniffed.
"Are you sure? She is your mother and you may not get to see her for a while." Tony explained.
"No Abba. Ziva is my mother. Sherry is just the woman who gave birth to me." Sadie replied.
"That bad huh?" Tony asked.
"She called me retarded and said she didn't want me." Sadie sniffed.
"I am sorry I let you waste your time on her. You don't deserve that." Tony replied.
"It's OK I have you, Ima, and our new baby." Sadie assured.
Sadie climbed in the front seat of her father's car. He sped down the road to the hospital and she just looked out the window. Family was strange she thought. It really had nothing to do with blood it was what was in the heart and Ziva was part of her heart. The family pulled into the hospital the same one that Jack had died in but she couldn't focus on that. She had to focus on her mom and her new baby sibling. She sat in the waiting room while Ziva gave birth.
"Sadie?" Tony called.
"What is it, Abba?" Sadie asked.
"You have a new baby sister." Tony replied wiping away a tear.
"I do?" Sadie asked.
"Yes she is seven pounds even. Nineteen inches long." Tony explained.
"Is that good?" Sadie asked.
"She is perfect" Tony assured.
"What is her name?" Sadie asked stepping into the hospital room behind her dad.
"We thought that we could let you name her." Ziva commented.
"Really?" Sadie asked.
"Yes baby girl" Tony replied.
"So do what would you like to call her?" Ziva asked.
"How about Madison Abela?" Sadie Suggested.
"Madison means gift of God." Tony replied.
"And Abela means breathing." Ziva added.
"It is perfect." Tony replied..
A/N: Sadie sure learned a valuable lesson about family didn't she? New chapter will be up soon. Please review and thanks for reading.
