Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Net (Season 1)

I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! Jacob Yudara is a duelist with a lot of potential, and a series of events will lead him to a new way to duel: Duel Monsters Network-a virtual reality game where duelists from around the world can enjoy dueling each other or AIs in the form of Duel Monsters. But all is not well as a virus has plans on destroying Duel Net. Rating changed to T just to be safe.

13. Tournament Arc Conlcusion

Who else is just as excited as I am? It's the final chapter of the Tournament Arc and it ends with Kaiba versus Jacob! Who will win? I already know but I'm not telling. Read on to find out. R&R, PM, and Enjoy!

Chapter 13

Kaiba: 8000
Jacob: 8000

Kaiba went first, "I'll start this duel by activating White Dragon Ritual!" A spell card materialized on the field, and Kaiba said, "Here's how it works, by sending monsters on my side of the field or in my hand with enough stars to the Graveyard, I can Ritual Summon a new monster to the field." A green-skinned man with white and gold armor appeared on the field, materializing from golden dust coming from, seemingly, the ground. He drew his sword as clouds formed overhead and spiraled until there was only a circular opening remained, and he held the sword up in both hands to the sky.

"I send Divine Dragon Apocralyph from my hand to the Graveyard in order to Ritual Summon Paladin of White Dragon (ATK/1900)!" A small dragon flew down from the opening in the sky, and it landed in front of the man. The dragon looked as if it had armor on and the man mounted the dragon like a horse. "Now, I can tribute my paladin in order to Special Summon, from my hand, Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"

A blue and white beam shone down from the opening, illuminating the Paladin as the dragon roared. They disappeared under the light and a pair of wings made of the same light sprouted from the beam. Both the clouds and the beam of light disappeared as the dragon roared and its ATK flashed a solid 3,000 points. The crowd in the stadium was going nuts: some were cheering for Kaiba and his dragon, while others were amazed that he got the monster out on his first turn. Jacob's family began to worry for him, wondering how he'd conquer the almost invincible dragon.

"Now, since I only performed a Ritual Summon and a Special Summon, I can summon one more monster. I summon Spear Dragon (ATK/1900)!" Another dragon appeared, materializing from the same golden dust as the Paladin, but to Jacob it seemed more like a pterodactyl the way it was structured. It had two claws on the joints of its wings, serving as its "hands". It was blue on its back and on top of its head, and tan on its underside and lower half of its head. Its nose was very long and ended in a sharp point, just like a spear.

"And, just so there's no surprises, I activate Swords of Revealing Light." Glowing swords appeared in the air and dropped around Jacob and just in front of Kaiba's monsters, meaning any monster he summoned wouldn't be able to attack. "That ends my turn."

Jacob: 8000

Jacob drew and examined his hand. "All right since I control no monsters but you do, I get to Special Summon Cyber Dragon (ATK/2100)!" The metallic dragon materialized and growled at the opposing dragons. "Next, I summon Junk Synchron and tune it with Cyber Dragon!" The small orange humanoid appeared, but not for long as it transformed into three rings which lowered around Cyber Dragon. It created an orange outline of the dragon and five stars appeared inside it.

A bright light shot out from the sky and Jacob shouted, "I Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon (ATK/2800)!" The dragon appeared and Jacob ended his turn.

In the arena, Jillian smacked her forehead and shouted, "Idiot! Why didn't he destroy one of his cards along with the Blue-Eyes!? He could have destroyed it and attacked his other Dragon!"

Blake made her sit back down and said, "There's more than one way to destroy a monster. I have a feeling Jacob knows what he's doing."

Jacob: 8000

As Kaiba drew his next card, he began thinking to himself, 'Those two face-down cards he has must be trap cards. Mirror Force, Draining Shield; he's obviously baiting me.' He looked back up at him and held in a surprised gasp.

The way he was looking at him, intense eyes, slight frown, head down, it was the same look Yugi had when they were dueling. Kaiba shook his head, 'That isn't him. Don't lose your nerve.'

"I place one card face-down and I end my turn there."

"See what I mean," Blake said. "Kaiba figured out something was wrong and he didn't attack."

Jillian looked at her father, "But doesn't that mean he knows what Jacob's planning?"

"Not really, it just means he suspects Jacob is setting a trap for him, when Jacob could in fact have one trap and a spell or even two spells. The game involves not only strategy but also psychology as well."

Kaiba: 8000
Jacob: 8000

Jacob drew and smiled, "Alright, I'll activate my own Swords of Revealing Light!" Another set of glowing swords dropped down around Kaiba and his monsters, "But they won't be here for long because I'm activating Scrap Dragon's ability. By destroying one monster on my side of the field, I can destroy one monster on your side of the field, and I choose my Swords of Revealing Light and your Blue-Eyes!"

The swords lifted into the air and surrounded Blue-Eyes as Scrap Dragon reared its head and a ball of fire began to form in front of its mouth. "Scrap Fireball!" Scrap Dragon threw the fireball in a catapult motion and the fireball hit Blue-Eyes dead center, and it roared one last time before it shattered into golden dust.

"And now, I summon my Blazewing Butterfly to the field (ATK/1500)!" As the butterfly appeared, wings ablaze, Jacob ended his turn.

Kaiba drew his next card, 'Yes, my second Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Now if I can get my third one, along with a Polymerization card, I can end this duel.'

"Alright, I'll start by activating my Trap Card, Call of the Haunted. With this card, I can bring back my Blue-Eyes White Dragon." Tombstones appeared on his side of the field where Blue-Eyes once was and the ground burst apart as Blue-Eyes, quite literally, rose from the grave.

"That will end my turn."

'I still don't trust those face-downs he has out there, but sooner or later I need to get rid of that Scrap Dragon.'

Kaiba: 8000
Jacob: 8000

Jacob began his turn and he set a monster in Defense mode. "Next, I will banish my LIGHT attribute Cyber Dragon and my DARK attribute Junk Synchron from my graveyard in order to Special Summon Lightpulsar Dragon from my hand (ATK/2500)!"

Two ghostly images of Cyber Dragon and Junk Synchron appeared on the field, Cyber Dragon more brighter than Junk Synchron, and they dissolved into Golden dust, which came together to form a single monster. The dragon, which was white and blue in coloration with lights swirling around it, appeared on the field next to Scrap Dragon and Jacob ended his turn.

The Swords around Jacob's field faded away as Kaiba began his turn and he looked at Jacob again. He still had that same intense look, and it was beginning to unnerve Kaiba. 'He still has that same look on his face. It's almost like I'm dueling him for real.'

For a split second, he thought he saw Exodia behind his opponent, but shook his head to get the image out of his mind. 'Get a grip, Kaiba. That's not really him.' He shifted his attention to the monsters. 'If I don't do something about his monsters, I'll be overwhelmed.'

"Alright Blue-Eyes, attack his Blazewing Butterfly with White Lightning!" Kaiba's dragon roared as it opened its mouth and a sphere of white light and blue electricity began to form. It released it in a stream of light, headed straight for the Gemini Monster. But just before it reached it, the stream changed course and went straight for Jacob. He held his right arm up and grunted as the attack hit him and everyone in the stadium began to wonder what happened.

Kaiba was just as confused, but when the stream ended he got his answer. On Jacob's right arm was a shield, and next to him was the Draining Shield card. "Nice try Kaiba, but even your dragon can't pierce the defense of my Draining Shield. And now my Life Points get a major boost, equal to your dragon's ATK."

Kaiba began to panic, and shouted, "Spear Dragon, attack his face-down, now!" His dragon flew stright for Jacob's face-down, but it was too late. Jacob had already played his second face-down card. His face-down monster became encased in black metal and the moment Spear Dragon attempted to impale the card, it was blasted with black electricity. "

I'm afraid I can't let you do that either, Kaiba. My face-down is safe thanks to my Sakuretsu Armor card. What's more, your dragon is destroyed." The dragon began roaring in pain until it shattered into golden dust. Wordlessly, Kaiba ended his turn.

Kaiba: 8000
Jacob: 11000

Jacob drew and saw it was a spell card. "I activate the Equip spell card, Ekibyo Drakmord!" He played the spell, which appeared on the field, and a black mist came out of the card and went straight for the dragon. It roared as the mist entered it's body, and it began to lose it's sheen. Kaiba watched his dragon as it went from white to deep blue and white spots.

"What have you done to my dragon!?"

"Ekibyo Drakmord, a Duel Monsters disease that prevents your dragon from attacking and will destroy it in two turns. But I have a solution that will reduce the wait time from two turns to zero."

"No, you can't!"

"I can. And I will! Scrap Dragon, Scrap Fireball!" Scrap Dragon reared its head and shot a second fireball at the Blue-Eyes, but it phased through it. The dragon continued roaring, and its skin began to bubble and melt until it exploded, destroyed from the inside. "And now, Kaiba," Kaiba looked over at Jacob, fear in his eyes as he continued to see his old rival instead of Jacob, "I can attack you directly! Scrap Dragon, Lightpulsar Dragon, and Blazewing Butterfly, attack Kaiba directly! Fire Stream attack!"

All three monsters shot out a blast of fire, which collided into a single, massive stream of fire that struck Kaiba for massive damage as he cried out in fear. "That ends my turn."

Kaiba: 1200
Jacob: 11000

Kaiba was still standing, but he was shook up. 'That attack, I actually felt the heat from it. And the way he commanded his monsters to attack, it was almost like it was really him.'

Kaiba clenched his fists and shouted, "No! I won't lose to you again!" Jacob was confused when he said "again", and Kaiba began his turn. "I activate Monster Reborn! The Blue-Eyes that you destroyed is now back for revenge!" As Blue-Eyes reappeared, it roared at the dragon that had destroyed it. "Now attack his Scrap Dragon! White Lightning!"

It opened its mouth and sent out the stream of light, striking Scrap Dragon and turning it into dust. "So much for your Dragon. Now, before I end my turn I summon Maiden with Eyes of Blue (ATK/0)."

A woman appeared this time, and just like her name she had white hair and blue eyes, but Jacob was confused as to why it had no attack strength at all. 'I'll bet it has some sort of effect, but I still need to take this opportunity.'

Jacob: 10800

"I summon Axe Dragonute to the field, and I will have him attack your Maiden!" A black dragon with a double ax appeared on the field, and he charged at the Maiden.

"You fool!" Kaiba shouted. "When my Maiden is attacked, I can switch her into Defense mode and negate your attack. What's more, I get to Special Summon the Blue-Eyes White Dragon that's in my hand!" The Maiden crossed her arms over her chest and closed her eyes, and a blue barrier formed around her. Axe Dragonute swung its ax against the barrier, but it was deflected. Next to the Maiden, another Blue-Eyes appeared on the field, roaring as the Axe Dragonute returned to Jacob's side of the field.

"Since my Dragonute attacked, he automatically gets switched into Defense mode. I'll also switch Blazewing Butterfly and Lightpulsar Dragon into Defense mode, creating a wall of defense around me." Axe Dragonute (DEF/1200), Blazewing Butterfly (DEF/1500), and Lightpulsar Dragon (DEF/1500) all knelt down into Defense position, and Jacob ended his turn.

'I can't do much, but it will at least buy me some time until I can get out a strong enough card.'

Kaiba: 1200
Jacob: 10800

"If you think you're safe behind those monsters, you're wrong. And I'll prove it right now; Blue-Eyes White Dragons, destroy his Butterfly and Lightpulsar Dragon! White Lightning attack!" Both Blue-Eyes roared and fired out a stream of light, hitting the two monsters and destroying them. Kaiba ended his turn, a smile now on his face.

Jacob: 10800

Jacob drew his next card and saw it was Negate attack. 'That will definitely come in handy.' He placed the card face-down and ended his turn. Kaiba scoffed, and began his turn.

"Alright, I summon Rider of the Lost Storm Winds and equip it to one of my Blue-Eyes." A human wearing red and black armor appeared on the field, jumping onto the left-side dragon. "Instead of explaining how this card works, I think I'll just show you. Blue-Eyes, attack his face-down!" The dragon began to attack, but Jacob reacted quickly.

"I activate Negate Attack! It will stop your monster's attack and end the Battle Phase!" Blue-Eyes unleashed its White Lightning attack, which hit a barrier and prevented it from attacking. "Very well, I end my turn."

Jacob: 10800

Jacob drew and he felt something. He looked down at his card and saw it was Phoenix Gearfried. 'I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me, but I don't think now is a good time to play you.' He looked back up at the field, 'If I play Phoenix now, he'll be destroyed by those two dragons. If I could get an equip spell next turn, I can take down one of them, but until then...'

"I pass this turn."

Kaiba: 1200
Jacob: 10800

"It seems your luck just ran out," Kaiba said, drawing his next card. "I'll start by having my unequipped Blue-Eyes destroying your Axe Dragonute." Another stream of light and Axe Dragonute was turned to golden dust.

"Now I'll have my equipped Blue-Eyes attack your face-down!" The Blue-Eyes attacked again, but this time the card was not destroyed and was revealed to be Spirit Reaper. However, when the attack did hit, Jacob also got hit by the blast as well, losing a chunk of Life Points in the process.

"Have you figured it out?" Kaiba asked. "With Rider of the Lost Storm Winds equipped to my Blue-Eyes, whenever it attacks a Defense-Position monster I can inflict piercing battle damage to you. So now, not even your Reaper can protect you." Kaiba ended his turn, 'Now I've got you.'

Kaiba: 1200
Jacob: 8000

Jacob drew his next card, Shapesister, and figured he might as well play it face-down. 'Who knows, maybe I can bring out Black Rose Dragon.' Kaiba began his next turn and he used his equipped Blue-Eyes to attack his Reaper again, ending his turn.

Kaiba: 1200
Jacob: 5200

Jacob drew once again and found one of his most reliable cards. "I activate Scapegoat! This brings out four Goat tokens to my side of the field!" As the small goats appeared, Kaiba laughed.

"You're an idiot! Those tokens have no DEF, meaning my Blue-Eyes can attack it and you'll be dealt all 3,000 points of damage!" His Blue-Eyes attacked the orange token, and Jacob felt the full blast of Blue-Eyes' White Lightning, crying out in pain. As soon as the attack ended, Jacob almost fell over and began to breathe hard.

"You know what," Kaiba said, "I think I'll humor you and end my turn right there."

Jacob: 2200

Jacob drew his next card and he looked at Kaiba, who was smirking at him. 'If this isn't the card I need, then I'm screwed.' He closed his eyes and held it up to his face. He opened one eye and he let out a big sigh of relief and smiled.

In the stadium, Blake saw him smile, and said, "I think he's just found his solution."

Jacob opened both eyes and Kaiba noticed the look in his eyes. 'Oh no, he couldn't have possibly drawn that card.'

"I activate my trap card, Shapesister." The card he placed face-down flipped face-up and a silver female monster appeared on the field. "However, I won't be tuning it with my other monsters. Instead, I'll tribute it and my Spirit Reaper in order to summon Phoenix Gearfried (ATK/2800)!" The two monsters dissolved into golden dust and then came back together to form Jacob's favorite monster.

"But I'm not finished, because now I activate the spell card Monster Reborn! Return to the field, Scrap Dragon!" Scrap Dragon appeared on the field and Blake noted their levels.

"Wow," Jillian said, "those are his two best monsters!"

"Not quite," Blake said. The others looked at him and Blake said, "I gave him a Rank 8 Xyz monster before the tournament began. Now that he has those two Level 8 monsters, I think he's about to bring it out."

"With Level 8 Scrap Dragon and Level 8 Phoenix Gearfried, I build the Overlay Network!" Everyone's attention was now on the duel, as Scrap Dragon and Phoenix Gearfried turned into streams of brown and red light, respectively, and flew into a red vortex overhead. "With these two mighty monsters, I Xyz summon Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis (ATK/3000)!" An explosion of light came from the vortex and a glowing monster lowered onto the field. It was reddish orange with golden armor, and it was bigger than both Blue-Eyes combined.

Kaiba looked up at the massive dragon and saw the sun lined up behind its head as it roared. Two shining orbs circled around it, and Jacob shouted, "Now, by removing one Overlay unit, I can tribute my remaining three tokens so I can destroy your two Blue-Eyes and your Maiden!"

One of the orbs flew off course and went into the dragons chest, which watched the orb as it did. It roared and Jacob shouted, "Go! Hieratic Solar Flare!" The sun lit up behind it and a ring of fire fell down from the sky, crashing into Kaiba's three monsters and turning them into golden dust and creating a massive dust cloud. The spectators in the stadium lost all visibility on the field and Jacob's family watched in suspense. Jacob's side of the field cleared out first, and Jacob squinted to see Kaiba's field.

One roar and the entire stadium and Jacob were caught off guard, and the dust was cleared to reveal one of Kaiba's Blue-Eyes had survived. "But how?" Jacob asked, staring at the dragon that should have been destroyed.

Kaiba began to laugh, "Simple, Rider of the Lost Storm Winds can be sacrificed in place of the monster it was equipped with." Jacob grunted and ended his turn, not wanting to risk a direct attack from Kaiba.

Jacob: 2200

Kaiba drew his next card and smirked. "Jacob Yudara, this is where your winning streak ends!" The entire stadium became restless with anticipation, and Kaiba made his move. "First, I summon my Shining Angel (ATK/1500)!" A male angel appeared on the field, and Kaiba shouted, "Now I activate a Spell card, Enemy Controller! Up! Down! Left! Right! A!" As he spoke, a large controller appeared with a directional pad and three buttons with the letters A, B, and C. As he said the button names, the controller pushed the buttons in sequence.

"Oh no!" Blake said, realizing the code Kaiba put in.

"What? What's wrong?" Jillian asked.

"It's the code he put in. Enemy Controller has two effects, but the code that you put in determines its effect. One effect changes the battle position of Jacob's monster, but the one he just played is much more devastating."

"Now, I tribute my Shining Angel as part of its effect, so I can take control of your dragon!" The entire stadium gasped, and Kaiba's Shining Angel disappeared as his Enemy Controller's plug flew up to the dragon and plugged itself into its chest. Jacob watched in horror as his own dragon turned on him, but seemed to try and fight back against it.

"Question of my life," Kaiba said, "should I attack you with my dragon, or yours? I think I'll let you feel the power of Blue-Eyes one more time, so you'll always remember this defeat. Blue-Eyes, attack with White Lightning!" Jacob's attention shifted from one dragon to the other as it roared and unleashed a full power attack. Jacob's eyes widened and he cried out as the attack hit him full force.

Jacob: 0
Win: Kaiba

Jacob opened his eyes and shot out of the chair, gasping for air as he made sure everything was still there. He looked over at Kaiba, who was already exiting his chair, and Jacob remembered his loss. The entire stadium was silent, and Jacob hung his head in defeat. Then, he heard clapping. He looked up as more joined in and saw the source was from his family. More and more people around the stadium joined in, cheering and chanting his name.

Hearing all those people cheering for him lifted his spirits and he stood up. The entire stadium exploded with cheers and he saw Kaiba walking over to him. He held out his hand, "Congratulations, Jacob Yudara." Jacob shook his hand and Kaiba continued, "I think I might have an internship position available for you at Kaiba Corp. Play your cards right and you might find yourself a new job."

Jacob smiled and replied, "Thanks, but for now dueling is my career." Kaiba smiled at that, and Mokuba handed him a microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen, although he lost this duel, the champion is still Jacob Yudara!" The entire crowd cheered for Jacob and Kaiba retrieved the suitcase of money. "And as promised, here is your winnings." Jacob thanked him and took the suitcase, opening it to find it all in cash. He closed it again and he shook hands with Kaiba one last time, this time with a camera man taking their picture. After leaving the stadium, Jacob was swamped by many of the spectators, now his new fans, and he eventually found his way out of the crowd and to his family.

The crowd soon dispersed and began leaving, allowing Jacob to talk with his family. Eventually, Luke, Jarred, and Mikayla also arrived and once she did Jacob went over to her. "Well, a promise is a promise." He set down the suitcase and opened it. He took out half of the cash and set it aside. He closed the suitcase and handed the rest of the money to Mikayla, "$250 thousand, as promised." Mikayla thanked him and put the cash into a bag.

"Thank you again, Jacob," she said, close to coming to tears. She quickly hugged him, and he returned it. She let go of him, and they said their final goodbyes. Jarred and Luke also said their goodbyes, and Kaiba walked over to Jacob.

"Congratulations, Jacob. As promised, you have earned a copy of Duel Monsters Network." Mokuba arrived with a cart and a large box. "All the gear is in there, along with a special access code that allows you to access the game even before its public launch." Kaiba took the box, which had a handle at the top, and handed it to Jacob.

Jacob thanked Kaiba who said, "Just so you know, I'll be expecting a rematch." Jacob smiled and the Kaiba brothers turned to leave.

"Come on," Blake said. "I think we've had enough excitement for one day." Jacob nodded and they all left the stadium.

This [finally] concludes the Tournament Arc. Next up, Duel Net. Now I jut need to start thinking about world building. I'll see you guys later, but until then R&R, PM, and get pumped!
