All right, Chapter 18 and third chapter of this triple update. So now that these two have discovered each other again in the real world, it's time for a bit more drama with a duel-but not the way you think. This will also touch a bit more on Skyler's family which Chyna Costello added
I'll see you at the bottom.
Chapter 18
"Well, this was unexpected."
It was after registrations and Jacob's and Skyler's family had met each other outside the Academy when the two duelists tried to find each other again. Skyler's family was quite the opposite of Jacob's: she was the youngest of three with two older brothers, compared to Jacob being the eldest of three with two younger sisters.
Skyler introduced her siblings: Alan, the middle sibling, age 19 and a second year medical student, had short light blue hair and green eyes; and Carter, age 25 and a professional duelist, had short hair that was a few inches longer and a few shades darker than his younger brother's, but had violet eyes like his sister. Their parents had similar features: bluenette hair-their father having short hair that stopped just above his shoulders and their mother about the same proportional length as Skyler-the father had green eyes while the mother had violet.
When Jacob had asked why she was attending school here when, during the tournament it was said, she was from San Francisco, her reply was, "Well, my family moves around quite a bit, and we're staying in Grand Veil City until I finish up school."
After introducing his own family, Carter asked, "So this is the one who beat you in your tournament duel?"
"No, that was a different duelist. Jacob and I never dueled each other in the tournament."
Carter hummed for a moment when their father said, "Mr. Yudara, it is a pleasure to meet you." The two duelists' fathers shook hands and Blake thanked him. "Skyler has told us that she met a certain duelist in Duel Net, I assume that was you?" Jacob stuttered for a moment before his face became hard and serious as he leaned in closer to the eldest Yudara child, "Because she also mentioned that certain someone defeated her in one turn using a dirty trick."
"Dad," Skyler said, pulling on her father's shirt collar so he was out of Jacob's face, "I told you that the cheat was from the tournament. Jacob defeated me in two turns, but only because he went first and used a Lightsworn deck." Their father made an embarrassing laugh as Jacob tried to piece what was going on.
"Even so," Carter said, "that's still two losses against you."
Alan wrapped an arm around Skyler's neck and gave her a smile, "Guess you're still the airhead duelist we still know and love."
Skyler groaned at the comment, but Jacob thought he was insulting her. "Hey, she's not an airhead duelist!" The three Beaufort siblings looked at him, surprised in each of their own ways. "I'll have you know that she's a great duelist."
"And how would you know?" Alan asked, letting go of her sister.
"Because I dueled her," Jacob replied, "and if I know anything about dueling, it's that people show who they really are when they duel-and when I dueled her I saw she had a passion for the game." Skyler slightly blushed at his comment, but Carter stepped forward.
"You only saw what you saw in two turns. I've battled my sister through dozens of turns and I can tell you that as it goes on, she becomes distracted and always loses in the end."
"That's enough!" Jacob shouted, making both of their families surprised. "If you're so 'high and mighty', then duel me and prove me wrong!"
"Jacob..." Skyler said uneasily.
Carter simply chuckled, "You're not worth my time. You might be a World Champion, but you've only won a single tournament. I've won dozens." Jacob glared at him, but turned his ear to him and cupped his hand around it.
"I'm sorry, what?"
"I said you're not worth my time!"
"I-I can't 'buck' hear you."
"What are you-?"
"Sorry, 'buck-buck' all I'm hearing is-" Jacob started making rooster and chicken noises, bobbing his head and pretending to eat seeds off the ground. The actions made Jillian and Anna laugh and shout "Chicken!" even making Skyler stifle a giggle.
"That's enough!" Carter roared, silencing them all. "How dare you mock me? For that, I'll not only duel you but I'll also send you back to the minor leagues where you belong!"
Jacob stood up straight and shouted back, "Then bring it on!" A figurative lightning storm erupted between their eyes as they glared at each other. They pulled back and brought out their decks. Jacob's father handed him his Duel Disk and Gazer, having been asked to hold onto it for him prior to the exams, and Jacob equipped them to his left arm and eye.
Carter received his Duel Disk and Gazer from his father as well. Carter's Duel Disk was a Custom Deluxe model, a very expensive and hard to obtain model that was tailored to fit only the duelist it was made for. Carter pulled back his sleeve as he equipped it, the card slots springing to life. The slots were white and silver with black outlining the entire frame. The design was similar to a Shaolin Spade: the card slots being the spade and the Duel-Pad being the crescent. As for his Gazer, it wrapped around the left side of his face, perfectly fitting to each curve and dip in his face while the visor fitted over his eye socket like a single goggle lens.
'Augmented Reality, Vision Link established.'
"Let's duel!"
Carter: 8000
Jacob: 8000
"I'll start things off," Carter said, drawing his hand. He examined it for only a short while before he played a card. "I place two cards face-down, and then end my turn. I'll warn you right now, no matter what you pull I've already got a plan to disable it."
Carter: 8000
Jacob: 8000
Jacob drew and examined his hand. "I summon Alexandrite Dragon to my side of the field!" The jewel covered dragon appeared in a flash of light, roaring as its ATK flashed a solid 2000. "Okay, Alexandrite, do your thing! Blast him!"
Alexandrite shot his attack and took a quarter of Carter's Life Points, making Jillian and Anna cheer Jacob on. "I place one card face-down and end my turn."
Carter: 6000
Jacob: 8000
"That was a pretty good move...for an amateur." Jacob growled at his comment, and Carter drew his next card. "Okay, let me show you how it's really done. I summon Beaver Warrior (ATK/1400)!" The small armored Beaver appeared on the field, wielding a short sword and circular shield.
"A Beaver Warrior? But it's got less ATK, what are you planning?"
Carter chuckled. "I thought you'd never ask. First, I'll activate this: Mystical Space Typhoon!" Jacob gasped in surprise as a gale force picked up around him and blew away his Trap Card. "Now that we have that pesky card out of the picture, allow me to show you mine, DNA Surgery!"
Carter's face-down flipped up as well and Skyler gasped in surprise. "Oh no!"
"Oh no? Why oh no?" Jacob asked, worried about whatever Skyler just realized.
"It's my ultimate combination: a One-Hit Kill." Jacob swallowed in worry as Carter shouted, "First, my DNA Surgery card will change all monsters on the field into Machine-types!" Jacob gasped in surprise as Alexandrite Dragon began to change. The jewels in its hide turned into perfectly cut crystals and what skin showed turned into metal plates as his dragon gave a literal mechanical roar. Carter's Beaver Warrior began to change as well, the small rodent becoming mechanical.
"Next, I activate the Spell card, Pot of Greed. This allows me to draw two more cards." As he drew, Jacob prepared himself for the worst. "My lucky day. Graceful Charity! I draw three and discard two more cards." Jacob looked over to Skyler, who was biting her finger in worry.
'What is he doing?'
"This is it!" Jacob's attention went back to the duel as Carter held up a card that glowed a golden yellow. "After several tournaments, I've been awarded with many different rare and valuable cards. One of which was awarded to me by none other than the King of Games himself."
'No, it can't be...'
"The cards I discarded with Graceful Charity were Shining Angel and Double Coston, so I banish them to Special Summon this: Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning!" His two banished cards momentarily appeared on the field before a blinding light enveloped the field, blinding everyone around them. Jacob covered his eyes and tried to see through the light, but could only see the silhouette of a figure. The light slowly died down and everyone gasped in surprise to see the new monster on the field as its ATK flashed 3000.
"In all my years," Jacob's father said, "I've never seen that card in person before today."
"He's only here for some support. Now I activate my second face-down, Macro Cosmos, along with another spell, Limiter Removal! Because Beaver Warrior is a Machine-type thanks to DNA Surgery, his ATK are doubled!" The mechanical monster began to grow and stopped once it was double in size. The trap card also appeared on the field, and Jacob began to wonder, 'How is he going to pull off a one-hit kill with that?'
"Now I activate the spell Primal Seed!" Jacob noticed Skyler's eyes grow wide as the spell was played. "With Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning on the field, I can return two of my banished cards to my hand. I select my Shining Angel and Limiter Removal!"
"Wait a second, Limiter Removal's in the Graveyard. How can you select it?"
"Because of Macro Cosmos, that's how," Jacob's father explained. "While it's on the field, any card sent to the Graveyard is instead banished."
"And since I activated Macro Cosmos before I activated Limiter Removal, it was banished. So now I'll activate Limiter Removal again!" His monster doubled in size again, and its ATK grew to an immense 4800. "Now I activate a second Primal Seed, which returns the first Primal Seed and Limiter Removal back to my hand."
Carter kept doing the same process over and over again, activating Limiter Removal to double Beaver Warrior's ATK, then playing Primal Seed to bring it back along with another Primal Seed. His monster kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger until he finally stopped.
In total, he had used Limiter Removal 20 times, and the monster itself was massive.
"My Beaver Warrior now has 1,258,291,200 ATK." Everyone looked up in fear of the giant mechanical monstrosity, Jacob looking especially fearful. "Now, I'll put you in your place. Mecha-Beaver Warrior, lock-on and attack!"
The monster slowly looked down at Jacob, a loud whine coming from the metal moving. Its glass eyes began to glow red as it lifted its, now giant, sword. Another whine and groan from the metal and the sword began to fall fast towards Jacob. He was paralyzed in fear as it got closer and closer, picking up speed as it went.
"This is going to hurt!" He managed to shout before the sword crashed down on Mecha-Alexandrite Dragon and himself.
"Jacob!" His father, mother, younger sisters, and Skyler shouted. The mecha beaver disappeared, as did Black Luster Soldier, but the large hole created remained as a part of the augmented reality. Carter walked over to where Jacob was, lying in the crater with a traumatic look on his face.
"I told you," Carter said, removing his Gazer and looking at Jacob who was lying on the ground, "you weren't worth my time." Jacob had shallow breathing, his chest quickly heaving up and down. As Carter began walking away, he heard his breathing become audible and it sounded like he was crying. "Oh don't be like that," Carter said, stopping only a few feet away, "you're already pathetic, you don't need to-"
Carter was cut off when Jacob burst into laughter. Carter quickly turned around in surprise to see Jacob with his mouth in an open smile, but also crying at the same time.
"That was awesome!" He shouted, raising both hands into the air. He began to sit himself up and continued, "I didn't even know combos like that existed, let alone you having one of the most famous cards in Duel Monsters history!"
Carter was completely caught off guard by his behavior, as well as the others. Jacob stood up, continuing to smile. "Looks like you were right, I do still have a lot to learn-but then again, you only saw what you saw in two turns."
His smile shortened to a grin, and he held his hand out. "So I'll make you a promise: if I get stronger, you and I are going to have a rematch." Carter just stared at him, and allowed a brief grin to show before turning away and walking back to his family.
"If you get stronger," he replied. Jacob lowered his hand as his grin disappeared, and the families stood opposite each other once again.
"Well," Skyler's father said, clearing his voice, "I guess we should be leaving. It was very nice to meet you all." The Beaufort family began to leave, although Skyler gave an apologetic look to Jacob before leaving. Jacob looked down at the ground, feeling an odd combination of humility and humiliation. A hand touched his shoulder and he looked up to see his father with a small smile.
"You did good, son. He just drew the right cards, is all."
Jacob nodded, "I know, and I also know that I can get stronger. I hope you can help me reach that goal as well." The two Yudara's smiled, and Blake nodded.
"So," Jillian said, appearing next to Jacob with a smile of her own on her face, "you and Skyler, huh?" Jacob suddenly snapped out of his smile and whirled around to face his sister.
"No! It's nothing like that!"
"You like her!"
"I do not!"
Jillian began to run, shouting, "If I catch up to her, I'll let her know how you feel."
Jacob raced after her, shouting "Get back here!" as he cut her off and she turned around. Jacob caught up to her and held her with one arm while he roughly rubbed her hair with the other hand.
"Ah! Anna, help!" The youngest Yudara child suddenly jumped onto Jacob's back and hung onto him by the neck, making him drop Jillian as he removed her.
The three siblings continued to chase each other around and, unknown to them, Skyler watched them and gave a small grin.
'Now that's what a real family looks like,' she thought to herself as the three crashed to the ground, Jillian and Anna laying on top of Jacob and then laughing as he struggled to get up. 'Bickering siblings who annoy each other at times, but really do care for each other.'
Jacob finally pushed his sisters off and the three, finally exhausted, began to laugh as their parents walked over to them.
'I hope you get stronger, too, Jacob.' The family began to leave, and Skyler left as well before her family noticed she was gone.
So...yeah, that happened. By the way, the combo that Carter pulls off is a real combo: I was watching a YouTube video by AznEyesWhiteDragon and it shows how to do this combo. Granted, he used a scenario in the late game for his example, but I was able to make this work out.
