Hey everybody, I'm back once again with a new chapter for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Net! Alright, so you're all probably wondering why it's taken so long to get my chapters out in recent months. Well, I started work at my old job about three weeks ago and because of that I had to move in with my dad. He doesn't have internet, so I can't update until weekends (at least every other one).
Anyways, other reasons for delays include the fact that I have found a new game shop in town-one that has Dungeons and Dragons! (Epic Win face) For those of you who don't know, I absolutely love RPGs; especially ones like D&D, Traveller, and Fire Emblem Awakening (by the way I got that game, too, along with a story in the works). So... Yeah, there's that.
This chapter will feature a duel against Mikayla, and this time her deck has been reworked. How will it turn out? Read on, and I'll see you at the bottom. R&R, PM, and Enjoy!
Chapter 20
"Mikayla? Is that you?" The girl smiled and, opening her deck box and putting her card away, nodded.
"It's nice to see you again, Jacob," she said. Jacob was a bit surprised to hear her voice coming from a digital avatar. For one reason, it was like hearing the same voice actor from two different TV shows. For another, her voice sounded different from when he last saw her: before, she spoke quietly like she was shy. Her voice now, however, sounded more confident and extroverted.
"I guess some of that prize money went into getting a Duel Net system?" Jacob asked, to which Mikayla nodded and thanked him again for sharing the prize. Skyler seemed surprised by this, and was about to say something when Mikayla interrupted.
"I am disappointed in you, however," she said, crossing her arms and pouting a bit. "I'm surprised that you lost so easily, ran straight into a dead end."
"Hey, in my defense," Jacob said, holding his hands up, "I had some bad draws. As a matter of fact, it could have gone either way had I drawn my Scapegoat spell card." Mikayla shrugged, he did make a good point since he would have had enough defense to stop all three of Skyler's monsters plus one more if she summoned another. "Besides my deck beat yours, didn't it?"
Mikayla's expression snapped at that point and she glared at Jacob. "Yes, I remember. Which is why I rebuilt my deck, and if you think you're lucky then I'll gladly challenge you to a duel."
Jacob was a bit scared now, and started to say something when Skyler interrupted him, "He can't duel you, his Life Points haven't even recovered yet." Skyler sighed, calming down, and Jacob looked down at his still active duel disk. Just as Skyler said, his Life Points were at the same value when their duel ended: 3,000 points.
"Alright," Mikayla said, "I guess we can head back to the City Zone. I haven't explored the area much, so I'm not sure how far away another town area would be."
"Uh, so why are my Life Points still reduced? Shouldn't they have gone back up by now, or at least started to gradually increase?"
Skyler turned to Jacob, "Remember when you and I dueled for the first time in the Desert Zone?" Jacob nodded, remembering how he had used the Lightsworns to deal a one turn knock-out. "I had been curious about that too, but the thought didn't occur to me until after the drinks restored my Life Points. After the official launch of the game, I went searching for a duel to see if I could figure this out. Not many people were willing to accept my challenge, but I was able to find an opponent eventually. It was a fun challenge, but I won in the end. I asked to see his Life Point counter, and surprisingly it showed that he had a hundred Life Points left, even though I reduced his Life Points to zero."
"I believe," Mikayla said, stepping to Skyler's side, "that after a player versus player duel, or simply PvP, the Life Points increase slightly so that you're still active, but you won't be able to challenge someone right after-you'd have to restore your Life Points first." Skyler agreed, and Jacob began to think about the encounter with Two-Headed King Rex.
"So what about if you face one of those roaming Duel Monsters? What if you lose all of your Life Points to them?"
"It shouldn't be that difficult," Mikayla said, "all you have to do is properly defend yourself. However, I don't know what would happen even if you did lose to one. My best guess is that you respawn in the last town you visited, probably with a hundred Life Points remaining as well."
Jacob nodded in agreement, "Yeah, it makes sense. I've played a few games like that where you return to a central hub area if you get defeated."
"All right," Skyler said, "so I guess we should go back to the City Zone, then?"
"Yes, let's," Mikayla replied.
Just as they were about to leave, a voice shouted from behind, "Stop right there!"
The three turned to see a teenage guy running out of the treeline and stopping a few feet away from the three. He had very short dark brown hair and green eyes. He wore a black shirt underneath a short red vest that was buttoned up along with cuffed blue jeans. "Looks like I finally found you, Jacob Yudara," he said, smiling at the three. Jacob didn't know who it was at first, but his voice definitely sounded familiar.
"Jacob, do you know him?" Skyler asked, unsure of who this person was.
It finally clicked in his head and Jacob asked, "Is that you Jarred?"
He laughed, rubbing the back of his head with one hand, "Yeah, it's me." Jacob explained that he was his second opponent during the tournament, and Jarred walked over to them. "I'm surprised to see you here, Jarred," Jacob said.
"Yeah, I know. Lucky for me, my dad got a big raise on his paycheck so he treated me and Mom by getting me a Duel Net system and taking Mom out for dinner. They'll be gone for a few hours, so I figured I'd explore a little. And now that I've found you," Jarred smirked and held out his left arm, and a duel disk appeared: it started out as an egg-shpaed device on his wrist, but after activating it flames erupted from the opposite side, and Jarred turned it over so Jacob could see the flames solidifying into a blade-like form. The flame patterns became solid, and five card slots slid open and glowed as it activated. "I challenge you to a rematch!"
Skyler stopped Jarred before he could continue any further and explained that Jacob didn't have that many Life Points left. "Not to mention," Mikayla added, "he's dueling me first."
Jarred looked over to Mikayla and, recognizing her from the tournament as well, bluntly said, "Didn't you lose to him in the first round?"
Mikayla glared at Jarred this time and retorted, "Like you did any better. If Jacob hadn't given you a chance to defend yourself, he could have used his Kurigohs to drop all of your Life Points to zero on the third turn." Jarred grumbled for a moment before stepping past Jacob and began staring down Mikayla.
"So, you're saying you think you can beat me?"
Mikayla chuckled at him, and abruptly stated, "I know I can beat you, hot-head."
"Then why don't you put your money where your mouth is..er, water witch!"
Mikayla smiled, and the two moved a good distance apart before Mikayla activated her own duel disk. Much like Jarred's, it started out as an egg-shaped device, but after activating it water began to flow from the opposite side. Unlike Jarred's, however, the water remained in its liquid state as the card slots appeared and the duel began.
"Duel commencing. No Field Power Bonus will be applied in this duel. Attention: new rules have been implemented into Duel Net."
"New rules?" Jacob said to himself.
"The starting player may not draw a card and instead must begin the duel with a standard hand of five. Both players may have an active Field Spell in their respective Field Zones." Jacob was both interested and uneasy about these new rules. The "no first turn draw" rule would make the duel more interesting and challenging, especially for the one who went first, but he wasn't sure how the field spell rule worked.
He had little time to think as Jarred shouted, "I'll go first!" Their cards appeared in their hands, and the duel began.
Jarred: 8000
Mikayla: 8000
Jarred examined his hand and smiled. "Well, lucky me. I'm going to start this duel with a bang by activating the spell, Polymerization!" The spell appeared on the field and Jarred continued, "I fuse the Pyro-type Laval Magma Cannoneer and the Machine-type UFO Turtle in my hand and Fusion Summon!" The two mentioned monsters appeared on the field, and soon became swirling red and orange lights that circled around each other. "Say hello to Ignition Beast Volcannon (ATK/2300)!"
The lights finally collided with each other, and after a brief flash of light a new monster emerged. The monster was mostly silver and grey in color, and looked like a combination of a machine, a rhinoceros, and a dragon. It had a single horn on its snout while two more sprouted on either side of its head. Mounted on its shoulders were two large red cannons with three barrels in a triangle formation. It also had four small arms with three small, bronze claws and one long, silver claw on each hand. It stood on its two hind legs, with a thick tail that dropped down behind it.
"Normally, when this monster comes out onto the field I can tribute it to destroy one monster that you control and then deal damage equal to your monster's ATK in the Graveyard, but I think it's a waste to let such power be thrown away on a later turn. So for now, I'll set two cards and end my turn."
Jarred: 8000
Mikayla: 8000
"He used up his entire hand on the first turn," Skyler said to Jacob, "he's taking a big risk by doing that."
Jacob nodded in agreement and replied, "True, but he did summon a monster with over 2,000 ATK on the first turn of the duel. Along with those face-downs, Mikayla may have a hard time getting to his Life Points." The mentioned duelist was examining her hand, and selected a card near the back.
"I activate the spell Terraforming! This allows me to search my Deck for a Field Spell and add it to my hand." Her deck shuffled itself and a card slid out from the top, allowing her to draw it and show it to Jarred. "So I add and then activate the Field Spell, Umi!" Mikayla let the card drop from her hand and as soon as it touched the ground the area around them began to change.
The jungle was soon engulfed by a tidal wave, and in a matter of seconds an ocean had replaced the lush green landscape. The two duelists, as well as the spectators, both stood on the surface of the water as waves crashed around them. Jacob looked down and tapped his foot; to his amazement the water around it rippled for a moment before settling once again, as if solid ground was just under the surface of the water.
"Impressive, isn't it?" Mikayla asked. "This Field Spell increases the ATK and DEF of all Fish, Sea Serpent, Thunder, and Aqua-type monsters on the field by 200 points, while also decreasing the ATK and DEF of all Machine and Pyro-types by 200." A large wave struck Jarred's Ignition Beast-since it was a Machine-type monster-and it groaned in annoyance before its ATK slightly dropped (ATK/2300-2100).
"Now I'll choose to summon my Atlantean Heavy Infantry (ATK/0-200)." The water to Mikayla's right erupted into a geyser and something began to emerge from it: the monster looked like a humanoid fish with green skin and very large pink lips. It wore blue and purple battle armor and carried a long shield in either arm.
'But why summon that monster?' Jacob thought to himself. 'Her monster has 1600 DEF, and even though that's not enough to defend against Jarred's Ignition Beast it's certainly better than leaving herself open for an attack.'
"Now I summon Atlantean Dragoons to the field in attack mode (ATK/1800-2000)." Everyone was shocked to hear her say those words, especially when the summoned monster, or rather monsters, emerged from another geyser. Both monsters were two humanoids with green skin and wearing silver and gold armor, one wearing primarily silver armor and the other wearing gold. They each rode a large, sea serpent-like creature with armor similar to their own, and both monsters held a bronze sword in one hand while holding their creature's reigns in the other.
"Hey, that's an illegal move!" Jarred shouted. "You can't summon a second time in one turn-"
"Unless," Mikayla interjected, "my first monster had an ability that allowed me to Normal Summon a Level 4 or lower Sea Serpent-type monster in addition to my regular Normal Summon or Set, which it does. I will now place two cards face-down and end my turn."
"Oh, now I see," Jacob said. Only Skyler heard him, and she asked what he meant. "She summoned her Heavy Infantry so that she could start filling up the field with more monsters, maybe for a Tribute or an Xyz Summon, and I'd be willing to bet that those face-downs she played will help her keep them on the field."
Jarred: 8000
Mikayla: 8000
"It's my move," Jarred called out as he drew. "Allow me to introduce a personal favorite of mine: by banishing UFO Turtle from my Graveyard, I'm allowed to Special Summon the Spirit of Flames (ATK/1700-1500)!"
A ghostly image of Jarred's monster appeared on the field before it cried out as it was consumed by flames. A human figure rose up from the burning flames, the lower half of its body still engulfed in flames; it had red skin with armor on its chest and arms.
"And now I'll activate my Trap Card!" Mikayla shouted from her side of the field. One of her face-downs began to rise and Mikayla continued, "This card is a Continuous Trap called Tornado Wall, and as long as Umi is on the field I take no battle damage from any attack."
"That sounds pretty good, but I'm afraid it's all for nothing." One of Jarred's own face-down's flipped up, causing all three duelists to give a surprised gasp. "I activate the Counter Trap, Dark Bribe! It negates and destroys one of your Spells or Traps, and in return you get to draw one card." Mikayla's card, just as it fully flipped up, shattered into golden dust and Mikayla drew. "Now, if that's all you're gonna do, my Spirit of Flames will attack your Heavy Infantry! Oh, and did I mention that it gains 300 ATK at the start of the Battle Phase?"
The monster growled in rage, flames erupting all over its body as its ATK went from 1500 to 1800, and extended its arms out to fire a massive blast of fire at the Atlantean. The monster could only stand there as the flames washed over its body and destroyed it, reducing Mikayla's Life Points by a good chunk. "Next, my Ignition Beast will fire on your Dragoons! Volcanic Missiles!"
The monster's shoulder cannons lowered until they were level with the two Sea Serpents, and then fired three missiles from each of its main cannons, hitting both monsters and destroying them. Jarred gave a quick cheer as he ended his turn and shouted, "How do you like me now!? My fiery monsters are drying up your Sea Serpents faster than a drop of water in a scorching desert!" Mikayla gave a slight groan as Jarred ended his turn.
Jarred: 8000
Mikayla: 6300
Mikayla drew and placed two cards face-down, announcing her move and then calling out, "I activate Call of the Haunted!"
The card flipped up, but once again Jarred interjected by shouting, "Seven Tools of the Bandit will negate it!"
Mikayla's surprise grew once more as his second face-down flipped up, revealing the Counter Trap. "By paying 1,000 Life Points, I get to negate your Trap Card and destroy it!" Once again, Mikayla's trap was shattered and Jarred began to laugh. Mikayla began to groan in annoyance once again and she ended her turn.
"No monsters this turn," Skyler mused. "She's open for a direct attack, unless those face-downs can protect her." Jacob nodded and Jarred's turn began.
Jarred: 7000
Mikayla: 6300
"Spirit of Flames," Jarred called out, "Ignition Beast Volcannon, attack her directly! Fiery Barrage!" Once again, the Spirit's body became covered in flames as its ATK slightly increased. Both monsters prepared their attacks-Spirit of Flames extending his hands towards the opposing duelist and the Ignition Beast aiming its cannons at her-and then fired their attacks at Mikayla.
The explosion from the resulting attacks caused Mikayla to cry out, whether in pain or just surprised Jacob couldn't tell. After the smoke cleared, he noticed the water around her feet was churning and frothing, and her avatar body had smoke coming off it.
"Mikayla, you alright?" Jacob called out.
She looked to him and nodded, "I'm fine, just stings a little." Jarred ended his turn and Mikayla drew.
Jarred: 7000
Mikayla: 2400
Jacob noticed Miayla gave a small smile as she looked at her new card. "I summon Legendary Atlantean Tridon to the field!"
The moment she played the card, the sea around them became suddenly calm. Then, something roared-something under the water. It was deep and long, almost like a wolf's howl. Then something became visible-it was a large dark form that swam around the field, just under the surface of the water, creating small wakes in the still waters. Jarred looked at it when it passed by him, and he gasped in surprise when a pair of glowing red eyes looked up at him as it passed by. The creature went deeper and disappeared under the waters.
Another, much louder, roar sounded, causing the still waters to ripple violently before the form began to surface once more. The dark shape reached the surface and it erupted into a geyser that reached to the sky. The dark form was visible inside, and the other three looked on in awe and fear as it turned to face Jarred. With one final roar, the geyser exploded outward and the huge monster was revealed.
Instead of the huge leviathan everyone had seen, the monster was instead a fun-size version of a blue sea serpent. It had deep blue scales on its back, arms, legs and face along with a cyan underbelly. It had a spiked sail fin running down its back, and it was adorned with a silver trident headpiece and bronze braces on its wrists and ankles. Its ATK briefly flashed 1600 before the Field Spell increased it to 1800.
As it fell gently from the sky and dropped to the field, Jarred stared at it, completely dumbstruck until he let out a sudden burst of laughter. He continued laughing for a few seconds before he slowed and said, "Oh you really had me going there for a second, but you just summoned a shrimp to the field!" He continued to weakly laugh as Jacob looked over to Mikayla.
'Was it the only thing she could do? Or does she have some sort of plan up her sleeve?' Mikayla met his gaze, and just by her expression Jacob got his answer.
"Now then, my Legendary Tridon will attack your Spirit of Flames! And don't think I'm unfamiliar with it's ability: it only gains ATK during your Battle Phase, not mine." With that, Tridon inhaled and shot out a blast of water at Jarred's monster. The moment it came into contact with the liquid, the monster groaned and disappeared in a cloud of steam while also reducing Jarred's Life Points by a small chunk.
Jarred: 6700
Mikayla: 2400
As Jarred began his turn, he called out, "Not bad, but my Ignition Beast is much stronger than that shrimp. So Ignition Beast, attack with Fiery Barrage!" The Machine-type aimed its cannons at the small sea serpent, then fired its cannons. Jacob looked to Mikayla, but she didn't seem to have anything to protect her monster as the rounds impacted and exploded around it.
Mikayla flinched as shrapnel hit her avatar's body and her Life Points dropped to 2100. Jarred's turn ended and Mikayla drew her next card. Another smile crossed her face and she called out, "I activate a Spell Card, called Surface! It allows me to bring back one Level 3 or lower Fish, Sea Serpent, or Aqua-type monster from my Graveyard and Special Summon it in face-up Defense Position." Once again, the water erupted into a geyser as Atlantean Tridon returned to the field covered in a blue glow (DEF/1600-1800).
"I'll end my turn there."
Jarred: 6700
Mikayla: 2100
Jarred drew and examined his new card. "I summon Fire King Avatar Barong (ATK/1800-1600)!"
Next to Ignition Beast Volcannon, a spiral of flames appeared and a new monster appeared from it. The monster looked like a red skinned man with the face of a lion and dark hair. It didn't wear a shirt, but it did have black trousers and golden jewelry. It also wielded two swords in either hand and wore a large golden ring on its back. What's more, it had blue flames on its legs and on the golden ring.
"Now," Jarred began to say, "even though my Fire King doesn't have enough ATK to destroy that Tridon of yours, my Ignition Beast is more than capable of clearing a path for him." Jacob knew what this meant; after Tridon was gone, Barong would be able to attack directly unless Mikayla's face-downs could protect her. "Alright Ignition Beast, destroy that Tridon one last time!" Once again, Jarred's monster fired at and destroyed the monster, but Jarred wasn't over with his turn.
"Now Barong, get in there and attack her directly. Fire King's Flame!" Barong leapt into the air, brandishing its swords, and struck Mikayla as it fell. Mikayla fell to one knee as her Life Points dropped into the final hundreds and Jarred ended his turn.
Jarred: 6700
Mikayla: 500
Mikayla struggled to stand up as she drew her next card. As she looked at it, Jacob noticed a brief grin cross her face. "This will be my game changer," she said in a low voice. She stood straight up and called out, "With this card, I will claim victory! I summon the Deep Sea Diva (ATK/200-400)!"
Instead of a geyser, this monster simply rose out of the sea. The monster looked much like a mermaid, with the upper half of a human and the lower half of a fish. The human half wore a white and red sleeveless dress shirt and also had some fish features-an angler's lure on her forehead and fish fins in place of hair.
"When Deep Sea Diva is normal summoned," Mikayla said, her grin turning into a smile, "I'm allowed to special summon a Level 3 or lower Sea Serpent-type monster from my Deck. So I'll choose to summon a new Legendary Atlantean Tridon!"
The small sea serpent reappeared on the field and Jarred began to chuckle.
"Haven't you learned your lesson, yet?" He asked in a mocking tone.
"Haven't you wondered why I summoned Tridon in the first place?" Mikayla asked back. Jarred was silent for a moment, and Mikayla knew that it meant "no". "Legendary Atlantean Tridon is just a younger version of its true form!" The three duelists gasped in surprise when she said this, and Mikayla opened her arms wide. "From the ancient underwater city, I call forth the Protector of Atlantis! Accept the tribute and transform into your true form! Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon!"
Mikayla's Tridon became enveloped in a bright blue light and the Deep Sea Diva shattered into golden dust. Tridon's body began to grow until it reached the size of the dark form they saw before the first Tridon revealed itself. The light exploded off of it and the new monster roared. It had a similar appearance to Tridon, but more aged as if it had grown up. It had the same deep blue scales, which were larger, cyan underbelly, and tan sail fin. Although it didn't have a trident headpiece, it still had the bronze braces on its wrists and ankles and the trident was moved to its tail. It's body was covered in silver armor and its ATK briefly flashed 2800 before jumping to an even 3000 points.
Jarred's jaw dropped open as he took in the awe-inspiring creature before him. "You aren't out of the water yet," Mikayla called out, knocking Jarred out of his stupor. "Because I used Tridon's ability to summon Poseidra, all of your monsters now lose 300 ATK!" Jarred gasped in surprise as Poseidra roared, causing a tidal wave to rise behind Mikayla. The wave harmlessly passed over Mikayla's side of the field, but it crashed down on both of Jarred's monsters, reducing their ATK even further (Ignition Beast: ATK/2100-1800; Barong: ATK/1600-1300).
As soon as the wave cleared, Mikayla said, "I'm not done yet, because now I activate a trap called High Tide on Fire Island!" Her left face-down flipped up and Mikayla explained, "Because I control a Level 7 WATER attribute monster, I can special summon as many WATER monsters as possible that were sent to the Graveyard to activate monster effects as long as I destroy one monster afterward. This means I get to special summon Deep Sea Diva and Legendary Atlantean Tridon, and then sacrifice my Diva." The two mentioned monsters appeared on the field, but Deep Sea Diva disappeared soon after appearing.
"All right, now Tridon will attack Barong and Poseidra will destroy your Ignition Beast!" Tridon attacked first, inhaling and then shooting out another blast of water at Barong. It roared before its blue flames went out and it shattered into gold dust. Then it was Poseidra's turn to attack; inhaling in a similar fashion to Tridon, it fired a much more powerful and concentrated blast of water at the Ignition Beast which could hardly give a death rattle before shattering into gold dust and leaving Jarred's field wide open.
"I believe the tables have been turned," Mikayla stated as Poseidra relaxed and made a sound similar to both a growl and a purr. "Your move."
Jarred: 5000
Mikayla: 500
Jarred drew and took a peek at his new card. Jarred's momentary hopeless look suddenly became wide-eyed surprise, and all three of them saw it. "Then I'm turning those tables back around! I summon Gaia Soul, the Combustible Collective!"
As soon as he played the card, an orange glow had appeared on the field. The glow was centered around a single point, and something began to materialize where that point was. It was some kind of orange, almost fleshy, substance that bubbled as it grew bigger and bigger. Once it grew to a fair size, a large eyeball poked out at the front, making Mikayla and Skyler shudder in disgust as it began throbbing and its attack momentarily flashed a solid 2,000 before droping to 1,800.
"Any idea what that card does?" Skyler asked and Jacob nodded in response.
"It's quite a powerful card. If he had two more Pyro-types on his side of the field, he could sacrifice them to have Gaia Soul gain 1000 ATK for each, but he has nothing to sacrifice. And even if he doesn't attack Mikayla's Tridon with it to destroy them both, it'll get destroyed during the End Phase."
"Which is why I won't be winning with Gaia Soul," Jarred called out, apparently hearing Jacob. "I know Gaia Soul isn't strong enough, which is why I'm trading up for a new one-I activate Creature Swap!"
Mikayla gasped in realization, as Jacob and Skyler's eyes went wide as Jarred played the card and it appeared on the field. "Now with this simple Spell, I'm allowed to switch control of one of my monsters to you. In exchange I get one of your monsters, like Poseidra!"
"No, you can't!" Mikayla shouted in dispair, but it was already too late. Right before their eyes, Poseidra and Gaia Soul shattered into golden dust before moving and reappearing on opposite sides of the field.
"It's game over!" Jarred shouted. "Finish it off, Poseidra-attack Gaia Soul!" At his command, Poseidra wasted no time inhaling and then firing the powerful jet of water. The moment it struck, Gaia Soul exploded in a mix of water and fire, the remainder of which striking Mikayla and reducing her Life Points to zero.
Jarred: 5000
Mikayla: 0
Win: Jarred
After the attack finished, the Field Spell disappeared and Mikayla found herself in the lake. The resulting blast from the final hit had knocked her pretty far back, enough that even before the Field Spell faded she had fallen under the water and then resurfaced. Jarred's duel disk disappeared and he rubbed his nose before saying, "And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done."
Jacob approached him and said, "That was pretty good. I bet you improved your deck since last time we met."
Jarred nodded in reply, "Yep, added a few cards from the Fire Kings set. I didn't even get a chance to bust out my biggest monster."
"Well, I hope when we duel I'll get to see it."
"Hey," Mikayla called out. The two boys looked over to see Mikayla approaching them, her avatar body quickly drying from the water, "What about our duel? I still challenged you first."
"Easy, Mikayla," Jacob said, "I'll duel you too, after my duel with Jarred. I'm interested to see more of those Atlantean cards you have."
"Don't forget about me," Jacob was surprised to hear Skyler speak out as well. "That duel between you and me was unacceptable, so I want a rematch as well."
Jacob laughed nervously, and to his initial dismay a fourth voice called out, "I'm afraid that will have to wait."
The four duelists turned to see a new face approach them: he had messy black hair with silver tips and green eyes. He wore a simple blue shirt underneath an open white shirt, along with blue jeans and black hiking shoes. He also wore glasses and had a tattoo on his right arm depicting a tribal symbol.
"I'm sorry, do I know you?" Jacob asked, stepping in front of the other three as the newcomer stopped just a few feet away.
"Oh come on," he said, "I know this is all virtual, but you can't even recognize the voice of your father?" Jacob was surprised when he said that, and Blake added, "Want me to prove it?"
"No, no, I believe you. So what are you doing here, Dad?" Jacob asked, curious as to not only why but how he was here.
"Well, obviously I don't want to keep pulling the plug on your Duel Net system every time I want you to come out and spend time with the family," he replied, "so I decided to invest in a system of my own, so I can tell you to come out myself." Jacob sighed and looked to the others.
"Well, looks like I have to go. I'll see you again, and we'll have our duels."
Jacob and his father opened their menus and began to log out, before Jarred shouted, "Oh wait, be sure to add me as a friend so I can find you."
"Same here," Mikayla added. Jacob nodded just as he pressed the button, and his vision was replaced by a bright light. As soon as it dimmed, Jacob saw the ceiling of his room and slowly sat up.
He didn't feel dizzy or light-headed at all, possibly meaning it would have been caused by being abruptly taken out of the game. Jacob continued to slowly get out of bed, just in case he suddenly did feel dizzy, and went over to his laptop. After opening it and going to the Duel Net site, he quickly found out how to add friends. After locating Jarred and Mikayla, he sent them friend requests and closed it. His door opened and Jacob turned to see his father entering his room.
"Hey, you feeling alright?" Jacob nodded, and Blake added, "Okay then. We're heading out to eat, so get ready." He let and Jacob stood so he could change his clothes.
I finally got this out. I feel so accomplished.
So, yeah there are two new rules to the game: the first player cannot draw a card and both players can have a field spell out at once. In my personal opinion, these new rules do make it challenging, but it was also confusing for me sometimes. The first player is left with five cards, meaning a smaller starting hand and less cards to choose from, and-I suppose-when both field spells are active , they act simultaneously.
So, a few more updates: new stories. Yeah, I'm sorry but I just wanted to. It's a Fire Emblem: Awakening story, pretty much a loose adaptation to the game's events (and by loose, I mean dialogue will be different and support conversations may be changed).
D&D and Magic. I was able to participate in my first competitive tournament at the new game shop, and also got a few packs of Dragons of Tarkir.
I.
Lost.
Miserably.
No wins, four losses. I can't say I'm surprised since many cards my opponents had were multiple copies of mythic rare cards, sometimes of the same card, meaning they probably purchased them online, something I can't do at the moment.
I am also thinking about making a D&D fanfiction, featuring a group of my OCs all getting together to play the game. I will put up a poll, so you can say "Yea" or "Nay" to the idea.
Finally, concerning this story: there should be at least three more chapters for the Duel Net Arc before we move on to the Virus Arc. I hope you all continue to read this story, and get pumped up for the upcoming action that will ensue. As always, comment, Fav, and follow, and I'll see you guys next time.
