Zoe woke up to a steady beeping noise next to her. She opened her eyes to come face to face with white walls surrounding her, as she took in the fact she was lying on a hospital bed in a night gown.
She looked to her right where she saw Dan curled up on a chair, holding her hand as well as, lightly snoring as he dreamt.
She smiled gently, lifting her hand from his and running a hand through his hair, feeling the soft strands of blonde brush and tickle her skin.
Dan stirred slightly mumbling what sounded like 'Zoe' in his sleep before opening his eyes to come into view of soft moss green ones looking at him in adoration.
"Zoe?" He asked looking at the auburn haired girl, rubbing his eyes with his calloused hands in attempt to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
"Dan" Zoe sighed in content at her name rolling off his tongue, as she leaned back against the bed head.
"How're you feeling gorgeous?" Dan asked sympathetically, sitting up on the chair, bringing Zoe's hand into his, tracing circles with his thumb in the back of her soft, pale hand.
"Meh peachy" Zoe replied smiling slightly at Dan, as he brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles gently with affection.
Then taking in Dan completely she realised that he had big slightly dark circles around his eyes, from tiredness and that his eyes had gone a slightly darker blue than normal.
"How long have I been out?" Zoe asked, curious to see that Dan's expression changed to one of slight guilt and sympathy.
"Erm..." Dan replied taking the hand that wasn't holding Zoe's, to scratch the back of his neck in nervousness.
"Dan?" Zoe asked concerned for her boyfriend.
"Four days..." Dan replied.
Zoe's eyes widened in surprise... That long... 96 hours.
"What's up then honey?" Zoe asked Dan curious to why he looks slightly guilty.
"I... Haven't exactly slept that much.." Dan said not looking into her eyes because then he would break into tears of relief, that she is actually talking to him right now.
"Oh Dan" Zoe sighed, shuffling over on the bed so there was more space, to which she patted on the cream sheets of the covers, signalling to Dan to sit there.
Dan took the hint and sat down in the bed next to Zoe, he grinned happily to see that as soon as he had sat down on the bed, his beautiful princess had instantly curled into his side resting her head on his shoulder as he took both their hands, and gazed at them in admiration, as the paleness of Zoe's hand contrasted against his own tanned ones.
Just then the door opened to see Aneisha look around the room before her eyes landing on Zoe, to see her eyes open and completely resting in Dan.
"ZOE!" Aneisha yelled as she rushed over to Zoe's other side and engulfed her in a hug, trying to ignore Dan's slight protest.
"Is she awake?" Tom asked as he came in and smiled at the now happy girl on the hospital bed next to everyone she loved.
"How're you feeling Zo?" Tom asked as he sat on the chair to where Dan was previously sat.
"Getting there thanks Tom" Zoe replied as Aneisha let her go, to which she immediately snuggled back into Dan's shoulder, and Aneisha went and sat on Tom's lap.
"Glad to hear it" Aneisha smiled looking over at the cute couple.
"Where are we anyway?" Zoe asked, dying to know where they actually were.
"We're in an M.I.9 hospital in Spain still, although McNab think we are just in a normal hospital" Tom said rather smugly.
"That explains a lot" Zoe sighed, breathing the scent of Dan's cologne.
"The ball thing is in a few days..." Aneisha said a smile gracing her features.
Dan groaned before dropping his head into Zoe's neck, kissing the soft skin situated there. Zoe bit her lip to stop the giggles as Dan's mouth moved across her neck.
"Oh my gosh! Zo! We need to go shopping!" Aneisha said desperation written all over her face.
"Of course Neish" Zoe laughed as Dan stopped kissing her neck, pulling his head up to glare softly at Aneisha.
"And you Dan will have to wait in seeing Juliet's dress over here" Aneisha laughed, whilst Tom Stifled a laugh as Neish pointed from Dan to Zoe.
Dan groaned again, pulling Zoe closer to him protectively.
Dan looked down at Zoe as she looked up at him. Her eyes held love as he closed his eyes and pressed his mouth gently against hers as a hidden promise that nothing would happen to her again, and that he would protect her with everything he had.
