A/N: Welcome one and all to Friday's Fanfiction Finale! What is this all about, you may be asking? Well, I got good news and bad news. The bad news is we've reached the last two chapters of What Could Have Been. The good news is that these are going to be the most action packed double stacked chapters that throws the whole balance of this out of whack! Hmm, didn't notice that rhyme when I said that out loud. Oh well, enjoy the ending readers.
Chapter 19: Whatever It Takes -or- Heegata No Feebee, Stitch!
Earth's Atmosphere
"Here, 626," Lani gave him his suit back. "I gave it an upgrade too."
"Oketaka," 626 put the suit on. "Gaba upgrade?"
"Your blasters will come out when you make guns with your fingers," Lani explained. "But don't try it in here. Because if you throw the blasters, you have three seconds before they explode."
"Like najaaladi diwalis?" Angel wondered.
"Yes, kind of," Lani nodded. "It'll give off an E.M.P. to everyone who doesn't have their suits modified by me. So again, here's not the best place."
"E.M.P.?" 626 had to ask.
"Electro Magnetic Pulse," Nani told him. "Like a ziz-ziz najaaladi diwali."
"You speak our language?" 628 asked her.
"When you live with experiments your whole life, you pick up a few things," Lani shrugged.
It was a comment that went unquestioned to all but 628, who began having a huge suspicion about the girl helping them. Something was clearly off, in multiple areas at once. There was no way a human was capable of as much as she, it wasn't possible. Though a more pressing matter discontinued her struggle to understand, the matter of rescuing Lilo. Lani still hadn't told them any form of a plan yet, just details on their suits. She quickly modified 627's suit to strengthen his abilities, where 628's suit helped her use her power at a longer range.
Lani wasn't sure what they were going to do, she had a strong feeling she was overlooking something. She could only go on what happened the first go-round, since her presence already disrupted a large percentage of the original order. No matter, things could take an unexpected turn for the better. Unexpected, yes. Better, not exactly. Turns out that overlooked factor was 621, piloting the SBS and firing at them. Just when they had the drop on Captain Gantu's ship too, what horrible timing that allowed the captain's ship to fly through mountains.
"Hold on!" Jumba turned the ship vertically.
The tilt didn't affect anyone, as 628 was holding them in place with her power. It was a good thing she wasn't against them anymore, otherwise they would have three issues. Two was plenty, as 621 continued firing at them. Though Pleakley didn't notice, he was calling for food.
"Yes," Pleakley could be heard in his seat. "How many pizzas are in the four-piece luggage set?" He waited for an answer while his ship was blasted. "Well I don't know, maybe the company is four-piece."
Pleakley stopped after his side of the ship was blasted, destroying the ship's phone in the process. Everything was coming apart at the seams as the barrage of plasma hit the ship at every angle. Captain Gantu's ship got behind them in the attack, Ramthar helping 621 send them back to Earth.
"Jumba, send us in," Lani instructed vaguely.
"Is show time," Jumba nodded.
Lani, Angel and 626 got ready to jump out of the ship, passing by a terrified Pleakley who wore a flotation device and had on an airbag to breathe in. Lani shook her head at the sight, if she could jump out of a moving spaceship then he could at least sit down in one with no problem. 626 cheered as he opened the hatch, the wind carrying him to land on Captain Gantu's ship. When 621 pulled in to get him off, Lani and Angel jumped onto the SBS. Angel ripped open the door to allow them both inside, surprising the ship's pilot.
"Stand down, 621," Lani held her glowing hand up.
"Oh no you don't," 621 set the controls to autopilot and walked to them. "Do you know how much work all this has been? From tracking down 626 to changing his message for us?"
"It was yuuga?" Angel glared at him.
"Well, no," 621 told them. "I taught Ramthar how to do that. Still, we're going to test how 'invincible' the mighty 626 really is. And it's been a long time coming."
"Why?" Lani had to ask him for a motive.
"I'm done playing second fiddle to him!" 621 clenched his fists. "I was here first! And now -even with 627 and 628-, Jumba still treats him like a king! '626 is the leader.' '626 is so great.' I'm sick of it! Ramthar and I are going to turn him in, no matter what! And no traitorous 'Angel' and a child is going to stand in my way of getting rid of 626! Face it kid, you're beat."
"Maybe you're right, 621," Lani said as she and Angel backed up. "Maybe we can't stop you. Not me, not Angel, 626, 627 or even 628. But I think you're out of your element here."
"How so?" 621 didn't believe he had the disadvantage.
"Because we have the upper hand," Lani nodded to Angel. "Light!"
Angel took out her Ziz-ziz Wisps, stopping 621 from getting more weapons. 621 ducked and dodged her strikes with all his effort, finding it difficult when she made him back up to stand at the edge of the door.
"And gravity!" Lani pushed him out of the door with her invisible force. "Sorry!"
Lani knew where he would land, which she explained to Angel amongst their half of the plan. 621 dropped from the descending SBS ship onto Captain Gantu's, where 626 could be seen trying to break into the front of the ship. 621 ran at his rival, catching him off guard as he tackled him. While Captain Gantu flew the ship, he received a bit of trouble from Lilo. She couldn't sit back while 626 fought for her freedom, it was time she did a little more fighting for herself. So she took the fire extinguisher and sprayed the captain, fleeing as he screamed.
Lilo ran deep into the underbelly of the ship, looking over her shoulder every few steps in fear. The rhythmic flash of red gave her a limited sight range, making it a little easier to maneuver through the clutter of materials that stood at the sides. Steps skipped on the stairs, Lilo could hear Captain Gantu coming from above. Moving a faster pace than her forced her to take refuge behind a crate of food. As the captain came closer -plasma blaster in hand-, she made sure to slow down her breathing so he couldn't hear her terror.
Captain Gantu tried everything in his power to frighten her even more, it was effective as Lilo found herself trembling. It was surprising to him that she didn't just give up, without an escape pod there wasn't anywhere for her to go. He wondered what her plan actually was here, moving out of this part of the walkway to turn the corner. Lilo let out a sigh of relief as he left, which quickly to a gasp as she heard a clank coming from outside the ship.
Walking over to the window, Lilo caught sight of 621 and 626 rolling along the ship. She strained to hear what 621 was saying to 626, only picking up the words "transformation serum". 626 fought to get it away from 621, only to be thrown into the ship's flames.
"Stitch!" Lilo called as she saw 621 jump after him.
Falling from the ship, 626 could see Lilo being taken away from the window by Captain Gantu. It took his attention away from 621, who collided into his side and clung on as they dropped. What 621 had told him about being number two to him made sense, excluding Jumba trying to hunt him down for the past three days. Though it was when he explained the serum that had him worried, since it'd give him the power of some of the aliens they came across during their short travel on the SBS.
621 drank the contents of the vial, allowing the effects to change him as 626 watched with wide eyes. 621's eyes grew bug-like, his claws akin to razor blades, pointier back spines and increased strength. The pain of the morph hurt worse than being hit with a truck, however the after effect make him feel invincible. He showed off his strength by strangling 626, pulling his ears and even slapping him a few times. 621 spun 626 around before letting him fall to Earth, the mutated experiment having a jetpack to aid his fall.
626 hit a few mountains before he skid to a halt on an open road. 626 tried his best to shake off the fall, failing as he dizzily took three steps before falling. He urged himself to get up, nothing helped him accomplish that goal. 621 landed safely on the ground, casting aside his grappling hook and jetpack to handle 626 with his newly acquired muscle. 626 fought to see straight, though the fist 621 sent his way didn't help. 621 threw him like a rag doll, showing him no mercy at all.
626 could hear 621 mocking him now, though in his head since the mutant alien was too overpowered to speak. So the harsh words were more along the line of 626 making fun of himself, on behalf of 621 of course. Though he thought in words of what he thought 621 would use, it did seem like he was internally beating himself. Not just for this, also thinking back to everything that has happened to him. His doubts plagued him again, this time in the form of 621.
"What, you don't want to fight anymore?" he could hear 621 saying. "Suddenly lose your edge 626? Or should I call you Stitch? Since that's what you are now. Just a stitch away from your own end. Pity you couldn't save her. I wonder what your precious 'Lilo' would say about you giving up so easily."
626 then had another thought, what would Lilo say? She knew he was trouble from the start, yet she continued to try to teach him some goodness. She thought of him as...Family. Was he really ready to quit having something he wanted more than anything now? He was still outmatched, 621 was too much to handle at the moment. He needed a boost, there had to be something to motivate him. His thoughts landed on a single point every time, Lilo.
"Don't leave me, okay?!" Lilo called to 626.
"Okay," 626 shed a tear as she was abducted. "Okay."
"Okay," 626 glared at 621.
His vision was back, same as before so he was able to see a frog right next to him. The same frog that prevented him from crossing the street when he first landed. He now thanked the amphibian for that, who knows where 626 would be if he wasn't delayed. He thanked the frog for another reason too, an idea. 626 was filled with a new power, a lighter power. He had taken quite a brutal beating from 621, it was time he gave one out for a change of pace.
When 621 charged forward, 626 grabbed the frog and hopped out of the way. He hopped, almost as if he was taking some kind of joy out of this fight. Which he was, seen as how he pat the frog on the head when he set it down. Whenever 621 made a strike, 626 would either bound away like a jackal lope or pummel 621 as a ball. Ending their battle like the one he had with Jumba and Pleakley underwater, 626 sent 621's jetpack to carry him away to the sea.
All that left was the grappling hook, which was going to be used to stop the truck. 626 waited until it passed before he hooked onto the back of it, anchoring himself while making a skid mark on the road. The drivers surprised him when they got out.
"You wouldn't believe the kind of stuff you find after a flood," Lani waved to him, wearing a suit like Mr. Bubbles'.
"Emba-chua," Angel agreed, jumping out of the gas truck in a smaller suit. "A lot of hakri deika. Khalifaud, yuuga aka choota."
"Gaba about yuuga huzziuh?" 626 asked.
"You have your mission, we have ours," Lani told him. "Now go save Lilo. We'll see you at the beach."
626 didn't have time to ask her questions, so he drove off as Captain Gantu swooped in to take care of the problem himself. With Ramthar still in control of the ship's weapon systems, he missed shots at 626 and caused Lilo to cheer even more for 626.
"Go Stitch!" Lilo would scream. "You can beat them!"
"Be quiet!" Captain Gantu found his brother's words to be true.
As Ramthar fired at the truck, 626 traveled up the volcano and dodged each blast. The captain doubted the volcano's lava would do anything to 626, he was indestructible after all. Adding Ramthar's failed attempts at hitting the experiment, Captain Gantu thought the whole scene played against him. He was right in that fact, though he continued to fool himself into thinking he would catch up. Not much effort was needed for that, -as in a way- 626 was going to come to them. He crashed the truck into the entrance of the volcano and climbed to the back to see Captain Gantu, both he and 626 glaring at each other.
"Abomination," Captain Gantu
"Stupidhead," 626 smirked.
The blue experiment sliced open the back of the truck, letting the gas poor out into the lava. This sparked a flame to travel up the stream of waist, exploding the truck to send a fireproof 626 rocketing to the ship. Lilo covered her eyes as 626 shattered the glass, happy to see him come to her rescue.
"Aloha," 626 laughed in the captain's face.
"626!" Captain Gantu screamed as he tried to crush him. "You are the bane of this whole mess! You're vile! You're foul! You're flawed!"
Captain Gantu had managed to get 626 with his fist, earning a gasp from Lilo. Though the gasp turned into a smile when the captain's hand was raised, revealing a very confident 626 underneath it.
"Also cute and fluffy!" 626 through him out of the window.
Normally, this would have sparked concern to see someone tossed from miles into the air. Though there were a few factors that made this less of a worry, not much but less. Captain Gantu kidnapped Lilo, he was also trying to take away 626 and he was going to land in the water anyway. With him out of the way, Lilo was free to get out of her seat. She ran up to 626 and enveloped him in a hug, which 626 was happy to return seeing as she was safe for now. Both were happy, both had won what they needed.
"You came back," Lilo spoke once they broke the hug.
"Nobody gets left behind," 626 reminded her.
That earned him a kiss on the nose from her, a thank you for all he went through to save her. Sadly, the two were far from safe at the moment. An alarm followed by a flashing red light startled them, making 626 check the systems. The ship had continued to rise to space, making it a danger now that there was a giant hole in the front window. It was up to 626 to land them, or it would have been if Ramthar hadn't reminded Lilo and 626 of his presence in the ship. He shot the controls, sending the whole ship out of whack and gaining 626's attention.
"Lilo, you land ship," 626 didn't take his eyes off Ramthar. "Ramthar, yuuga and meega baaheth jihadi now!"
Ramthar held his weapon out further to 626, forcing him to use his suit's new upgrade to protect Lilo from getting hit. With their blasters out and aimed at each other, 626 was ready to settle this mutiny until Lilo grabbed his arm.
"Stitch," Lilo looked at him with worried eyes. "Be careful."
"Okay," 626 nodded.
The experiment leaped at Ramthar and the two fought out of the room, leaving Lilo to stare at the faulty controls of the ship. It was all too overwhelming for her, she'd never driven anything before so a spaceship was a bit much to ask of her.
"I need help," Lilo told herself. "There must be someone who knows how...Lani!"
Lilo looked to the systems and found the one piece of machinery that worked, a circular space phone -like the one Pleakley used. She was confused with it, so her only hope was shaking it until it came on. There was a call already waiting, which made her think it must have been for Captain Gantu. If it was, then at least she could get instructions still. So she tapped the device, surprised but also incredibly relived to see just the person she needed to speak to on the other line.
"Lani!" Lilo screamed over the blaring alarm. "Help me!"
"Alright, I'm here," Lani spoke. "Just show me the systems, quickly!"
Lilo turned the device around so Lani could see what she had to work with, which was a complete maze of a challenge. Turning the communicator around, Lilo showed Lani how worried the situation made her.
"So can you help me?" Lilo hoped so.
"No," Lani replied quickly. "But I can try. Since the controls are messed up, try pushing the steering wheel forward."
"Are you sure?" Lilo breathed heavily over the pressure.
"Lilo, trust me," Lani nodded in reply.
Looking up, Lilo could see the sky darkening. As an added measure, the air was also becoming slightly harder to breath by the second. Lilo took in a deep breath to prepare herself, shaking out all of her nerves about this. She was still frightened of the outcome but she was going to do it anyway, she did trust Lani. Doing as Lani told her, Lilo quickly regret her choice as the ship dive bombed toward the water. Wind pushing against her face, tearing her narrowed eyes as she tried to see.
A newer gravity had been introduced with the ship's position, this one sending Lilo to press against the back of the over sized chair while 626 and Ramthar vertically floated to the back of the ship. Lilo could her the shots and punches being thrown behind her, feeling completely powerless to do anything at all now. It was her turn to give up on trying to make things better, she would have completely been at a loss if Lani hadn't spoke up from the communication device.
"Lilo!" Lani shouted. "Lilo, you have to pull the ship up now!"
"I can't!" Lilo's face warped into a fluttering pancake with the force against her. "I can't reach to controls! I'm not strong enough!"
"You're wrong," Lani told her adamantly. "You can do this. You're more than what others think of you, what you think of yourself. You see the good in things, and you have a unique view of the world. You're strong, own up to it. Do it for Nani and Stitch. And make your parents even more proud of the daughter they wanted to raise."
Lani's words hit close to home for Lilo, more than she initially expected them to. They raised questions for the small girl, adding to the already cluttered mind the situation gave her. With a final thought of her parents, Lilo closed her eyes.
A/N: I guess this it it, only one chapter left to go before the story is complete -this one anyway. The last chapter will let you all know why "Lani" is really here. It'd be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on her at this point, considering what's happened so far and what will happen for my other ideas. So don't forget to click that review button to give me your opinions, even after this story ends if you'd be so kind. The ending will be up at nine tonight, see you then.
