Heartaches

Chapter 90

By KellyQ

From the pit stop, Akiza, Crow, and Jack got up to crowd around Yusei to ask him if he was all right. When Yusei arrived, he looked pale and vulnerable. Sweat dripped down Yusei's face, and he looked like he was going to slide off his motorcycle. Akiza noticed that Yusei had dropped his phone and she picked it up. Jack and Crow grabbed a gentle hold of Yusei so he wouldn't hit the asphalt.

"We'll be taking a short intermission," M.C. announced. "Be back in fifteen minutes!"

It wasn't long before the crowd got up and started to make their way to get something to eat, use the restroom and wash their hands.

The rest of Yusei's friends, Blister, Aero (Blister's boyfriend), Tanner, Yangi, Carly, Mina (Jack's housekeeper), and Trudge (a motorcycle cop), made their way to the pit stop hoping that he was alright. Rally and the twins, Luna and Leo, were the first to see Jack helping Yusei off his motorcycle so Yusei could sit and relax his body for a moment. Rally was the first to reach Yusei (when he sat down) and hugged him. Jack shook off his trench coat and draped it over Yusei's shoulders. Akiza still had Yusei's cell phone. She pulled out her own and was texting from Yusei's cell the picture to her own phone.

"I should go find Sherry and see if she's alright," Yusei said, trying to get up. Rally tightened his grip as everyone told Yusei that he wasn't going to move in the condition he was in. "I'm fine," he reassured. Rally had stepped back by now.

"You call looking like you're going to puke... fine?" Jack pointed out. Crow did a double take and noticed how awful Yusei looked.

"I'll talk to her," Akiza volunteered, handing Yusei's cell phone back to him. Yusei took gentle hold of Akiza's arm and pulled her close and hugged her – when he was actually whispering in her ear. Akiza finally pulled away to go look for Sherry.

"We should be getting to our seats," Blister spoke up, seeing that the crowd (men, women, and children), taking their seats.

Akiza found Sherry leaning against her motorcycle fumbling with her cell. Sherry opened her eyes and watched Akiza lean against the other side of Sherry's motorcycle. Akiza pulled out her cell phone and started to text. It wasn't long before Sherry's cell chimed.

"Welcome back," came M.C's voice.

"I better get going," Akiza said, pushing from Sherry's motorcycle, "but just remember … we are your friends, and Yusei wants to mend things …"

Sherry sighed and watched Akiza walked back to the pit stop. The crowd was a little smaller now, and Yusei was at the starting line waiting for the next rider. It wasn't long before a gray motorcycle road onto the racetrack. Yusei narrowed his eyes at the rider – Primo.

"Are both competitors ready? All right! On-your-mark-get set – GO!"

They were shoulder-to-shoulder in two seconds.

"Just who are you?" Yusei demanded, "and why am I the target? I was an infant when the lab explosion! And Where's Bruno?"

"You are a spitting image of DR Fudo!" Primo pointed out. Yusei bristled immediately. "And Yiliaster wasn't too keen on how friendly Hanna was to DR Fudo! And as for who I am ... I'm the only one out of Yiliaster's three kids that survived! And as for Bruno, he's not your concern."

"Survived? What are you talking about?" Yusei wanted to know. He and Primo were on their second lap. "And I do make it my concern! Bruno is my friend!"

"Are you sure about that?" Primo asked slyly, ignoring the question all together. "What about all the times that he didn't come home? Or when he didn't do so well when it came to racing?"

This is not a race, Yusei thought, not liking the fact he wasn't well educated about Team New World. Yusei revved up his engine and shot straight ahead, and veered his motorcycle to block Primo's way. Primo managed to take his motorcycle and jump over Yusei. A trail of dust was left behind when Primo's motorcycle landed. Yusei recovered quickly, veered his motorcycle, and hoped to catch up with Primo. I have to find some way to get Primo to understand that his father Yiliaster was more of the suspect in the explosion than my dad, Yusei thought. He caught up with Primo and Yusei slammed the side of his motorcycle into him in hopes that would draw Primo's attention.

"Listen to me, Primo!" Yusei said over the roar of the crowed. "The lab blew up because your father didn't have it checked when the reactor was turned on!"

Yusei and Primo were on their last lap. The crowd hushed down eager to know more about the accident that happened a while back. It changed people's lives, a lot of grief from Hakase, and it was expensive to rebuild apartments and business around the perimeter.
