Hi guys! Finally had some juice to write yet another chapter. Had lots of fun writing this chapter, so I hope you guys will enjoy reading it too! Please enjoy!
The night before school, she mentally braced herself for the bullying Hotaru mentioned that all transfer students would suffer from.
What she was experiencing now, was however, entirely different from what Hotaru had warned her about.
"Sakura-san, have you received a copy of this worksheet?"
The girl seated in front of her with seaweed green hair turned around and asked with such politeness, Mikan felt sick to her stomach.
"Like I said, Mikan is totally fine!" she reminded the girl again for perhaps the twentieth time of the day.
"Anyone with relations to the Hyuuga family must be treated with utmost respect, that's like the unspoken rule in this school!" she pointed her index finger into the air all so sudden like, as if hinting that the Hyuuga family was as important as air was.
"Right, I'm not exactly related to him though, I come from down below, you really don't have to force yourself,"
"Girl, you just don't understand how things work here don-" she stopped in her sentence mid-way, looking down on the floor. A growing shadow was gradually casted on Mikan's table, then completely blocking the light source that was shining from above.
"Come with me,"
Before she knew, she heard his voice right beside her ear, his breath tickling her ears gently. Her back straightened from the sudden shock and goosebumps formed on her hands and legs.
"Right away,"
Standing up, she followed him out of the classroom, with everyone's eyes burning into both their backs as they disappeared by the doorway. From the way people acted, the Hyuuga family wasn't just a powerful family. Royalty would have been the more appropriate word.
"What did I tell you about talking to the people at this school?" he spun around after stopping abruptly.
"But, she was just asking me about the worksheets! I don't see that there's anything wrong with that!" she protested. School was supposed to be a fun place to be, and all these restrictions that she was receiving annoyed her out of her wits.
"They are only nice to you now because they think that you would have with you some kind of information that is confidential, with you living in my house and all. And they would exhaust all means to get their hands on that information to bring the Hyuuga family down,"
"You never let me close to even your study though, how am I supposed to even get a hint of this classified information that you apparently have?"
"That's the point, they don't know that you don't know anything! So stop being a dimwit and putting your life in unnecessary danger. You get me?" his whisper increased in volume by ten folds, managing to attract some attention from the people inside the classroom.
She nearly nodded, sort of getting why he was getting all hung up about their situation. Letting out a long, explosive sigh, she made her way back into the classroom again.
"Don't worry too much, he's always like that," her desk mate spoke up, his hand patting her head gently, trying to mock her and comfort her at the same time.
She shot him a death glare, and the blonde withdrew his hand immediately, then raising both hands to surrender before she got really mad. She was usually in a happy mood but right this moment, she was just so perplexed with the whole situation. Just by being his "prey", some invisible protective order was placed on her and worse still, his weird blonde friend was the only person she could talk to normally. It was weird, however, how Ruka never seemed to treat her or him like the way her classmates did. Perhaps his family was even stronger than Natsume's, though she could not really tell from the way their classmates treated him.
"Are you younger than Natsume?" the brunette randomly asked, and he raised an eyebrow.
"Why do you ask?"
"Well… I don't seem to have ever set eyes upon your birthday present (she meant "prey")" her eyes looked upwards towards the left, then shifting towards the right, as though searching for a hidden memory in her brain.
"Natsume's a November baby, I'm a March baby. And that is probably because she's a grade older then us," Ruka explained and shuddered as the piercing amethyst eyes of the discussed girl emerged in his mind. "She's really smart, the school let her skip a grade," he carried on his explanation as the bewilderment on her face grew.
Her mouth formed an 'o' shape, signalling to Ruka that she finally got the whole picture. Both of them stared into blank space for a while before she asked yet another question to break the silence.
"What's your blood type? Since you already know mine."
"I'm a Night A," he stated and the cloud of silence shrouded the both of them once more.
Suddenly, the blonde looked around furtively and leaned in closer towards Mikan. "Has he done it?" he whispered. Taken aback by the sudden secretiveness, she leaned back 2 inches away from his face. "Done… what?" she blinked, not quite comprehending the question.
"The first bite?" Ruka stated in stoic manner, not believing just how ignorant this girl was.
"Oh, bite…." She grew silent and thought back over the past few days since she step foot into the grand Hyuuga mansion. "No," she muttered inaudibly, but Ruka caught it anyway.
"What?" his facial expression was a mixture of amusement and shock. Night Bs were a delicacy to them, in fact, they were so rare many even believe them to be urban legends. People who have apparently tasted the legendary Night Bs equated the taste of their blood to that of a century old vintage wine brew. "Is that very surprising?" she asked, her brown hazel orbs filled with innocence.
A corner of his mouth turned upwards and his desire to tease this gullible girl grew. "Well, if it were me…" In a swift motion, he grabbed hold of both her shoulders, pulled her petite frame towards her and positioned his mouth at her neck. Her neck muscles stiffened and she held her breath. For the next 10 seconds, he held her in that position and whispers amongst their classmates grew louder as seconds passed. "What on Earth, Ruka? Are you courting death?" another classmate with dirty blonde hair seated at the back row whispered loudly. Ruka glanced at his classmate sideways and burst out laughing. Pulling away from her, his chuckles reverberated throughout the now silent classroom and everyone looked at him as though he had gone rabid. Sure, they knew that he was Natsume's best friend, but to try to snatch his property was blasphemy.
"Chill out guys, you didn't actually think I was going to do something that foolish."
The whole class let out a collective sigh of relief and resumed with whatever they were doing. All this while, Mikan sat there, half scared to death. "If it were me, I would have been at your neck the moment you stepped into my house. To be fair, any one here would have been," he continued his unfinished sentence with his usual smile on his face, leaving Mikan to regain her composure.
That guy never changes, he thought, knowing that Natsume had pulled some strings and played some tricks to protect this girl of his. He was just wondering no one had reacted towards her scent, yet he fully understood it when he realised her scent was completely masked, even when he closed in on her just now. Ha, Natsume was as possessive as always.
