Chapter Twenty
The next morning, three things happened.
The first was that Franky, at Sanji's suggestion, offered to take another look at Law's arm and try to do what he could to increase the dexterity in the fingers. He explained that he didn't have the parts to make them as instantly responsive as his own were, but he figured he could still tweak it a little so that doing tasks that required a lot of precise movements would be easier.
The second was that Nami, after days of trying, finally got the treasure chest open. Of course, since their luck with actual treasure was abysmal, all that it contained was a bottle of sake, which had Nami slumped over the table and groaning pitifully until Sanji had told her it was a bottle of high-quality North Blue sake with a vintage he'd only ever heard about and that it was probably worth substantially more than any amount of gold would be.
That is, if Zoro didn't drink it first, but that information had gotten him a hug and a kiss on the cheek from Nami so he vowed to keep it under lock and key and away from Zoro.
The third, also predictably since things had been so quiet, was that they got word from their scouts ('their scouts' being people from Bartolomeo and Cavendish's crews that nobody on Kaido's crew would likely recognize) that Kaido's ships were heading toward Wano.
Which, of course, meant that they had to make their move as well, especially since the news had especially agitated the three samurai who were more anxious than ever to get back.
Sanji had tried to keep his face carefully schooled into a neutral expression even though his heart was hammering hard enough that he was sure everybody in the room could hear it and his throat felt too tight for him to breathe properly.
Zoro immediately turned to him, looking concerned, but he coughed into his hand and shrugged, muttering something about stocking up on supplies that afternoon when Nami said they'd need to leave the next morning so the tide was with them.
Sanji cleaned up everybody's dishes, avoiding making eye contact with anybody else, and luckily they all seemed to take the hint and left him alone.
Well, almost alone.
"So."
"So. This is it, huh?" he tried to keep his tone flippant and failed miserably, fingers curling into fists on the countertop beside the sink. "I mean, I knew it was coming, but…"
"That hardly makes it easier to deal with," Law sighed, sounding resigned. Sanji glanced over his shoulder to look at him, swallowing and trying to put on a brave face. "I'm going to go see Mr. Robo about my arm, but then…"
"Yeah, I've gotta…I wasn't lying about getting supplies," he cleared his throat. "So I'll be busy."
"Right. Well," Law sighed and scratched the back of his neck, frowning before he looked up with something determined in his golden eyes. "Tonight. I want…" he sighed, tilting his head back as if seeking courage from some higher power, before he huffed an annoyed breath and stared directly at Sanji again. "I want you to make love to me."
"Fuck. Yes," Sanji couldn't and say he hadn't been hoping that Law would still want to do that, but that it might be their last time together was putting a whole lot of added meaning onto it.
"Good," the corner of Law's upper lip twitched upward in a tiny smile before he turned around. "I'll see you later."

Sanji forced himself to focus while he was shopping, since making sure they had enough supplies was far more important than his own emotional turmoil, and by the time he was convinced he had everything they'd need it was nearing dinnertime and he was back in the galley cooking.
Part of him was regretting it, since he'd effectively squandered the last day he might ever spend with Law, but his crew came first.
He's just gotten the food out for dinner and was reaching for a knife to start prepping vegetables when a hand materialized from the counter to grab his wrist, halting his movement.
"Robin-chan?" he asked hesitantly, turning to look over his shoulder.
Robin was leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed and smiling softly. "Take the night off, Sanji," she said gently. "We can all find food, I'm sure, and I'm quite certain there's something else you'd rather be doing."
"I'm a cook first, Robin-chan," he protested. "It's my job…"
"Captain's orders," Nami stuck her head through the door and grinned rather knowingly at him. "Usopp already took Luffy into town to get something to eat, so you know he's serious."
"Uh…" he stammered, glancing back at the knife block, because he should be jumping at the chance but something was making him hesitate.
Maybe it was because it would make everything more real once he was actually in the room with Law, but he knew he was being a coward.
"Go," Robin urged, patting his shoulder with another disembodied hand, and he nodded and went to put the vegetables back. "We'll see you in the morning."
"Have fun, Sanji-kun!" Nami added, linking arms with Robin as the two of them headed out of the galley, and Sanji lit a cigarette and told himself to enjoy every second of the time they had left.

"Sorry. We'll be decent in a moment…"
"No, it's fine," Sanji closed the door behind him, leaning back against it and sighing. "Luffy apparently said that I should forget about dinner so we can spend time together."
"Mm. That's nice of him," Law was lying on his stomach, arms crossed under his chin. "Why are you all the way over there?"
"I didn't want to interrupt," Sanji was a little miffed that Zoro and Law had apparently spent the whole afternoon together while he'd been out shopping, but decided he couldn't get angry about things like that now of all times.
He knew they wouldn't do anything sexual without him, but Zoro had apparently decided giving Law a farewell massage was in order and Sanji didn't think it was foolish to assume that it would have been easy for things to go farther.
…especially since, if the last time they'd done this was any indication, Law was actually more vocal when he got a massage than he was during sex.
"Don't look so scared, Cook," Zoro grunted, pressing his palms against Law's back, his legs bracketing the other man's knees. "We're not even naked."
"We should change that," Law made a noise that was pure bliss, his body relaxed and the look on his face tender and open. "Now. I believe you made me a promise this morning," he reminded Sanji. "I think it's high time we made good on it…" he made to sit up before gasping, a slight grimace of pain flitting over his face. "Fuck."
"What is it? What's wrong?" Sanji was moving toward the bed before he even realized it, dropping to his knees and reaching to grip Law's real hand when he held it out. "Hey…"
"It's my fault," Zoro grunted, his hands working over Law's shoulders. "We, um, spent all day training, pretty much."
"Mm," Law sighed. "Mr. Robo did some adjustments on my arm and I wanted to try it out while I still had a decent training partner. I suppose I've come to the conclusion that I'm not entirely useless in battle, even if the chances of me taking down any sort of strong enemy are probably not that great. For the record, Zoro doesn't go easy," he glanced back over his shoulder and Zoro had the grace to look a little embarrassed.
"Hey, I was trained by Mihawk for two years, remember? Man's a monster," Zoro grunted and Sanji started snickering. "It's not funny!"
"He used to take away Zoro's booze as incentive for him to train harder," Sanji said in a stage-whisper and Law snorted.
"Yes, well, I could see how that would be motivating…" Law sounded thoughtful. "Regardless, I need to thank you for assisting me," he added, and Zoro leaned down to kiss the back of his neck.
"Nah, it was fun," Zoro promised. "And you're a hell of a swordsman. I thought you just had that thing to help your powers," Zoro glanced over to where Kikoku was leaning against the wall. "Does it give you trouble?"
"Hmm? No, it never has," Law shrugged, and Sanji felt a little lost with the conversation now. "It has a strange way of finding itself back to me no matter where it is, but other than that I've never found out much about what the curse on it is. I take it yours is more…volatile?"
"To begin with, yeah, but I think It knows I'm the boss now," Zoro grinned against the back of Law's neck, nosing along his hairline.
"Are you talking about swords?" Sanji guessed, since that was about the only thing he could think of.
"Mm," Law mumbled. "Yeah. We both have cursed swords," he ran his thumb over the back of Sanji's hand, a blissed-out little smile on his face, and Sanji thought that this at least was one thing he'd never understand so he'd just have to let Zoro and Law have their little bonding session over pointy sticks. "Fuck, that feels good."
"Good," Zoro, from what Sanji could see, was barely massaging anymore and was mostly just trailing kisses down Law's neck and over his shoulders. Sometimes it still amazed him how tender Zoro was capable of being since it seemed to clash so much with his normal personality. He treated Law like he was…not breakable, certainly, because Law wouldn't stand for that, but Sanji was having a hard time believing now that there wasn't some sort of love between them. "Lift your hips for me," he murmured. Law did, letting Zoro slide his jeans off. "You good?"
"Good for…" Law started to ask before his eyes fluttered closed and he sighed. "Oh. Yes."
Sanji frowned, because from his position on the floor he couldn't see anything, so he pushed himself upright and glanced over to see what Zoro was doing.
"Thought I could get him ready for you. Since I've got the oil and everything," Zoro grinned, already two fingers deep in Law's ass (and fuck, he must have been relaxed since he was barely reacting to it).
"Should I leave you two alone, or…" the words came out before he could stop them, and in a much more scathing tone than he'd intended. Okay, apparently that whole jealousy thing wasn't quite as non-existent as he'd thought, and he really couldn't even explain why. Well, other than the fact that Zoro and Law had spent all day bonding when he was actually working, and even though he couldn't help that since they did need supplies, he was still mad at himself for losing hours over it.
"What's wrong?" Law reached to cup his cheek, staring at him intently.
"I…nothing," Sanji sighed, holding his hand over Law's to keep the contact between them. "Sorry. I'm being stupid."
"I'm sure you aren't," Law said firmly, his eyes narrowing a little. "Tell me."
It wasn't even a command anymore, not really, just an…expectation, Sanji supposed, that he'd be willing to tell Law anything at this point.
"Seriously, it's just me being bratty because I spent all afternoon shopping when I could have been here with you," he muttered, hearing Law sigh heavily.
"You're intolerably sappy at times. You know that, yes?"
"Like you're one to talk," Zoro grumbled, doing something that made Law close his eyes and groan.
"I don't make a habit of it, as you well know," Law replied, sounding put-out. "But I do understand your frustrations, although I'd urge you to enjoy the time we have left instead of dwelling on it," his voice sounded a little tight, body shaking as Zoro kept working his fingers.
"I know," Sanji promised, because he did, even if he was having a hard time convincing himself of it no matter how much he was trying to. He craned his neck up to kiss Law, lingering only a moment before he pulled away and stood up. "So."
"So. You're wearing far too much," Law sighed as Zoro slid his fingers out, rolling onto his back and giving Sanji a rather lovely view of his flushed, already-leaking cock.
He stood there for a while, just staring, trying to memorize every inch of Law's body, until the older man looked at him and tilted his head to the side. "Sorry. Right," he stripped his clothes off quickly, a surprised gasp tearing from his throat when Zoro used his still-oiled hand to slick his cock, holding Sanji from behind and sucking at his neck. "I'm good," he promised, turning his head to kiss Zoro quickly. "Okay," he looked back to the bed, walking over and crawling onto it. "How are we doing this?"
"Will this work?" Law asked, leaning back and lifting his hips, and he framed Sanji's waist with his knees when the blond moved closer.
"Yeah," Sanji swallowed, because the air suddenly felt heavy. Law hadn't been kidding when he said he wanted this to be intimate. He leaned down, blessing his flexibility because otherwise this would probably get pretty uncomfortable, and let the head of his cock nudge against Law's opening. "Ready?"
Law nodded, eyes half-closed, and he barely reacted when Sanji pushed inside other than to grit his teeth and let out a loud breath through his nose. "Mm. Fuck."
Sanji felt his body shaking as he leaned forward, elbows on either side of Law's torso and mouth latched onto his neck. Everything was so much less rushed than the last time they'd been in this position, and he wanted to savor each second of it.
"Okay?" he asked in a whisper, hearing Law mumble something in response. "Law?"
"Yeah. Yes. Please," he didn't even hesitate to let the word slip from his lips now. Sanji shifted his hips back before rocking them forward, keeping his movements calculated and gentle, and Law opened up beautifully beneath him.
"You feel so fucking good," he breathed, dropping a kiss to Law's lips. Law wrapped his arms around Sanji's shoulders and kissed him harder, moving his body in time with Sanji's slow pace. "So fucking good."
Law hummed, not really answering with words, but his body told Sanji everything he needed to know. He sped up a little bit, still keeping things measured and steady, and Law opened his eyes fully to stare at him, something almost reverent in his gaze that for once Sanji decided to let himself bask in instead of feeling like he didn't deserve it.
He kissed Law again, trying never to let their lips separate for too long, and he could feel Law's erection pressed insistently against his stomach, leaving wet trails where it slapped against his skin. He braced himself with one arm, wrapping his other hand around Law's cock and starting to stroke in time with his thrusts.
Law gasped, fingers digging almost painfully into his shoulders as he threw his head back. Sanji knew he wasn't holding back this time, and that every reaction was genuine and completely unfettered. His hands started sliding over Sanji's shoulders and down his back, touching everywhere he could like he was trying to map out every plane and angle of Sanji's body.
As much as he wanted it to last forever, he could feel his orgasm building after what seemed like far too short a time, even though both of their bodies were slick with sweat and he could feel his muscles starting to ache, his rhythm stuttering.
"It's okay," Law swallowed and smiled warmly at him. "It's…" he kissed Sanji again instead of talking more, his body going rigid. He muffled a moan into Sanji's mouth as he came, Sanji feeling the hot spurt of his cum over his hand and against his abs. "Fuck, Sanji, I want to feel you come inside me," he sounded broken, his hands clutching at Sanji desperately as he clenched his ass around Sanji's cock.
"Oh, shit. Fuck," Sanji nearly sobbed as he came, overcome with sensation and emotion, his body curling close as his hips pumped out the last moments of his release. "Law…"
"I know," Law laughed, sounding blissfully free. "I know," he said again, a promise and an understanding, and Sanji nuzzled his neck. "Hmm, I believe we're neglecting somebody, though…"
"Mmph," Sanji just kind of wanted to stay there, inside of Law, forever, but he knew they couldn't leave Zoro hanging. "What d'you want, Marimo?"
"Um…" Zoro frowned, glancing between them. "This is…does it really…feel good? I mean, getting…"
"Do you think either of us would keep doing it if it didn't?" Law asked, something teasing about his tone. "Don't feel obligated, but I can assure you, it won't hurt."
"Besides, you've got a fucking high pain tolerance," Sanji added, part of him a little excited that Zoro was coming around even if he doubted the other man would want to go all the way yet.
"Okay," Zoro huffed, rubbing his eye with one hand. "D'you think you could…um…your hand?"
"If that's what you want," Law shifted his metal arm, tapping it against the bed, and Sanji felt the vibrations through their joined bodies and groaned. "Come here. Lay on your side."
And of course, out of the moment, Law went right back to being in command, but Sanji couldn't even berate him for it because he'd been so compliant before.
Zoro finished getting undressed and did, lying down even as his body tensed up. Sanji kissed Law one last time before withdrawing, pulling out slowly and flopping so that he was facing Zoro. He threw one leg over Zoro's hip, cupping his face and smiling at him as Law shifted around behind the swordsman. "It feels amazing, Zoro," he promised. "You'll love it."
"Yeah?" Zoro chuckled. "I trust you guys," he decided.
"Relax," Law mumbled against his shoulder, and Sanji could see his hand moving. Zoro's eye opened wide, although he didn't make any sound, and after a moment or two his body settled again. "Okay?"
"It's weird, but it doesn't hurt," Zoro grunted, although he gasped a second later when Law activated the arm again. "Oh. Shit."
Sanji laughed and kissed him, reaching to stroke his cock slowly as Zoro's hips started to rock almost involuntarily, fucking himself back onto Law's fingers and forward into Sanji's grip.
"Hold on for me," Law shifted his arm again and Zoro made a noise that almost sounded pained, except the look on his face was of pure pleasure. "And that would be your prostate."
"Okay. Fuck. I g-get it now," Zoro looked close to coming undone already, although Sanji couldn't blame him because it was the best possible sensory overload and, for somebody like Zoro who hadn't experienced it before, it was easy to be overwhelmed by it.
Law smirked and Sanji heard the whirring noise get louder as Zoro groaned and started to shift his hips faster. Sanji sped up his pace, breathing against Zoro's lips and feeling the other man's body tighten with the effort of holding back.
"Don't," Law murmured. "Don't fight this."
Zoro nodded, gritting his teeth, and his whole body bucked when he came, eye rolling back and mouth falling open. Sanji worked him through it, only stopping his movements when Zoro let out a tiny moan of discomfort, and he lay there panting even as Law slid his fingers out and Sanji moved his hand away.
"That was…" he seemed incapable of more words, blinking and smacking his lips, and Sanji snickered and curled up close to him, not even caring how messy they'd all gotten because there was something in his chest that felt so gloriously alive that he wanted to ride that high as long as he could.
"So? Can I fuck you sometime?" he was maybe pressing his luck, but he figured Zoro would be at his most complacent after what had looked to be a rather earth-shattering orgasm, and Zoro looked at him rather seriously, nodding his head slowly.
"If it feels like that? Yeah."
"Good," Sanji kissed him again, reaching for Law and pulling all of their bodies close together, and he decided that, if this was the last time they ever got to spend together, he truly wouldn't have any regrets.
000
"Farewell, Trafalgar!"
"You're leaving, too?" Law looked up as Cavendish walked over, dressed to the nines with his hat and cape and looking truly princely.
The morning had dawned clear and sunny, a stark contrast to how Sanji was feeling. As much as he'd tried to stay awake the night before exhaustion had overtaken him quickly and they'd all fallen asleep in a haphazard pile of limbs, Sanji only waking when his internal clock told him it was time to start breakfast.
And now, well, it was time to depart, and they really couldn't wait any longer.
"Yes, Bartolomeo and I figured that, since you're unable to accompany Strawhat and his crew to Wano, we'd be the vanguard in your stead," he looked to Sanji with a smile and inclined his head, touching his fingers to the brim of his hat. "But I should thank you again for what you did for Farul."
"I'm glad he's recovering nicely," Law replied, and Sanji was a little confused because, from what he'd seen and heard, Cavendish and Law didn't get along at all. "And I should…thank you as well. For everything," he sounded like the words were a bit of a chore to get out, but Cavendish merely shook his head and patted Law's shoulder.
"Think nothing of it. Your sense of honor speaks for itself," Cavendish promised him, lifting his hand in a wave as he turned to walk away, and Sanji glanced at Law.
"Still have your secrets, huh?" he asked softly. Law shrugged his shoulders.
"It's not much of a secret, to be honest, but he did…look after me when I was too injured to do anything for myself, and even if I find his personality off-putting he's got a good heart," Law decided, and Sanji figured he'd have to be content with that.
Maybe he could get some more information out of Cavendish, if he really wanted it.
"Well, guess we'd better go too, Cook," Zoro gave him a half-smile, reaching to pull Law close to him and kissing him firmly. "I'm not gonna say 'goodbye,' because it won't be," his expression softened, Law returning the embrace rather fiercely before they parted.
The rest of the crew had reached them by this time and Sanji got out of the way, watching Law's face turn from mildly surprised to overwhelmed at the mass of people surrounding him. Sanji knew that he still wasn't totally fine with being hugged, but apparently he'd have to live with it for the moment because, of course, that's how everybody was choosing to say goodbye.
Chopper had climbed all the way onto his head and was sobbing rather loudly, so Law plucked him off and held him against his chest. Luffy had his entire body wrapped around Law and was whispering something into his ear that Law was nodding along with, and Sanji wasn't sure how long they would have stood there had Nami not reminded them they needed to leave with the tide.
She gave Sanji a pointed look as she herded Luffy past him, looking back over her shoulder at Law, and Sanji told himself to thank her for it later. It was kind of amazing how much more patience Nami had for him since the whole thing with Law and Zoro had started, but maybe she'd realized that all of his fawning over her was purely innocent now. Nami had always been compassionate, though, and Sanji knew she could tell how hard this was on him.
Franky was shaking Law's hand, saying something about how to care for the arm in case it started to give him trouble before heading off after the others, leaving Law alone with Sanji and Zoro again.
"Well, I'm glad that's over," Law brushed off his clothing, his tone hardly convincing. Sanji knew that, despite being irritated with all of them at times, Law had really come to like everybody on Luffy's crew and Sanji had no doubt he would miss them in a way.
There was a clattering behind them and Sanji looked over his shoulder to see Law's crew heading from the galley of the Sunny, carrying several large bags, and Law cleared his throat.
"What? I wanted to give you guys at least a little parting gift," Sanji grinned sheepishly, because even though it had been painful he'd forced himself to get out of bed just past the crack of dawn and cook at least enough food to feed Law's crew for a few meals. He'd been back before either Law or Zoro had woken up, because he wanted it to be a surprise, and he waved at Penguin and Shachi as they hurried past him.
He'd miss them, too, but he was glad Law had guys like that looking out for him.
"I wish I had something to give you," Law frowned, and Sanji could tell he actually was feeling bad about it.
"Look, it's just food, it's gonna be gone in a couple of days," Sanji tried to brush it off but Law shook his head, halting his words.
"There must be something…"
"Just don't suggest swapping hearts or something, because I'm still not cool with that," Sanji grimaced, and from the frown on Law's lips he knew that the other man had actually considered it. No, Sanji shouldn't be surprised, but Law could still be kind of creepy at times.
"Hmm…how attached are you to that suit you're wearing?" Law asked, a gleam in his eyes, and Sanji had a feeling he knew what this was about.
"It's not my favorite one but…fuck, warn me!" he yelped, pulling down on Law's hoodie and sighing when the sleeves flopped over his arms. He burrowed his nose in the collar of it and breathed in, feeling like he was about to cry and holding the tears back because he wouldn't cry, dammit. Leaving the Baratie had been one thing, of course, because he was leaving his life behind that time, but this…this should be easy.
The hoodie smelled like Law, and he knew he'd try to preserve that scent as long as possible regardless of how sentimental a thought that was.
"Sanji-kun!" Nami called, and Sanji looked up toward her, nodding. He knew they couldn't waste time.
"Well, guess we'd better wrap this up," Zoro slid his arm around Law's waist and leaned against him. "Take care of yourself."
"You as well. I look forward to the day the papers proclaim you as the world's greatest swordsman," Law kissed his cheek and trailed his fingers playfully through Zoro's earrings.
"Damn right they will," Zoro grinned. He looked pointedly at Sanji then and the blond nodded and moved closer, hands coming up instinctively to straighten Law's…his…tie.
"Right. Well. Later, th-"
Law cut him off with a desperate kiss, and Sanji decided he didn't care who was watching because he wasn't going to let anything take this last moment away from him. He wrapped his arms around Law's shoulders, hoisting his legs up and locking his ankles behind Law's thighs even as the other man moved to steady him.
They both pulled away far too soon for Sanji's liking, panting, and Law gave him a smile that eased all of his fears somewhat. "It's not goodbye," Law said firmly. "I…I feel that, somehow. I love you far too much to ever let you go completely."
Sanji laughed, trying to keep his emotions under control. "I fucking love you too, shitty surgeon," he whispered in Law's ear, catching his lips in another quick kiss before he slid his legs down so he was standing on the deck again.
Law kept hold of him for a few more long breaths before drawing away, and his own eyes were suspiciously bright although Sanji knew he of all people wouldn't cry.
"Go, Sanji," he whispered. "Find your ocean. And when you open your restaurant there, save a seat for me."
"Yeah. You got it. Don't expect any special treatment, though," Sanji took a step back, reaching for a cigarette before he remembered that because of their clothing swap Law had them now, along with his favorite lighter. Law clued in quickly and passed the items over but Sanji merely lit one cigarette up, pocketing the others before pressing the lighter back into the other man's palm. "Keep it."
Law didn't even protest, wordlessly slipping it back into his pocket. He took a step back toward the rail, letting his feet drag along the wooden planks of the deck, before he turned and jumped back down to the submarine.
He only looked over his shoulder once, giving a quick salute and then heading through the door to disappear into the depths of the submarine.
Sanji wrapped his arms around himself, nose burrowed once more into the collar of Law's hoodie and eyes squeezed shut, and he instinctively spread his feet to steady himself when the ship lurched, heading toward the open ocean.
Zoro's arms came around his waist, chin resting on his shoulder, and his own voice was rather tight when he spoke next. "We'll see him again. I know it."
"Yeah. Yeah, we will," Sanji cleared his throat, letting his head rest against Zoro's and watching the smoke from his cigarette swirl up into the clear blue sky.
Out here on the open seas nothing was certain, after all, so he was quite sure neither he nor Zoro truly believed they'd cross paths with Law again.
…but maybe, just for a little while, it would be okay to pretend that they would.
Notes:
1. I almost cried writing the last scene of this fic (and I never cry, especially at my own writing) so I hope that emotion actually carried through into the writing. That being said, this is the last chapter of this fic, and I know it doesn't end happily, but it's necessary for how the story had to go.
2. I wanted to add that little bit with Cavendish because of chapter 783, since his and Law's interactions were so perfect in canon there. And a few of you had suggested that Zoro be the one to help Law feel more confident in his fighting abilities even with his prosthetic arm, so while an entire scene of that didn't fit, I tried to incorporate a bit of that in here!
3. As always, thank you all so, so much for your kind words, feedback, and encouragement! I started 'So Good So Far' not knowing if anybody would even read it, and instead it's turned into 150,000 words of fic that's truly been a pleasure to write. Please let me know what you thought of this ending, and don't be too sad, because the first chapter of the sequel is already written and I hope to see all of you there once it gets posted :)
