A/N: Finally after wasting half a month writing this. I present you chapter 16. Also, I would like to say this fanfiction is officially over a year old, and I'm not sure whether I should be proud of myself or not. Regardless, my grave apologies once more for not updating in MONTHS. Life has been very hard and busy lately. Also, I will not be taking requests for pairings any more unless I manage to fit it in somewhere. The reason being A PLOT KINDA HAPPENED.
Yes, this fic was originally supposed to be a joking fic with some dorky romance. Not anymore. Oh well.
Anyways, I don't own Pokemon, and enjoy this chapter.
Love Happens Suddenly
Chapter 16
"Kid? Kiiiid...Dammit, pay attention already!" angrily snapped Bruno as the Buneary turned to face the Zoroark next to him.
"Um, sorry Bruno…I guess I was thinking about something and stopped paying attention," muttered the bunny as he gazed downwards in shame.
"I can tell," was the fox's response as his ears lay flat in annoyance.
"Um, what were we talking about anyways?" meekly inquired the normal-type as he dared to stare into Bruno's aqua-colored eyes.
Sighing in exasperation, the Zoroark began to repeat himself, "I was asking why you didn't show up yesterday."
"Oh well, one of my, uh, friends, um, kinda….had plans with me...um," the rabbit managed to say as he looked downwards again, remembering what Ashley had said about Teddy the night before.
"Oh? Huh. I didn't know you had friends," commented the fox as he faced to the front, keeping an eye on the crowd in the distance.
Cupid looked up with a pained expression as he spoke in a soft tone, "What's that supposed to mean?"
The dark-type swallowed as he shifted his gaze back to the younger rabbit that was obviously hurt by his careless words.
"Um, that's not the way I meant...I just thought...Well, you don't seem like most kids your age and..." he fell quiet.
Cupid only seemed unhappier at his response as he turned away from Bruno and tried to focus on the tons of Pokémon.
Bruno frowned at this and took a deep breath, "I'm sorry kid. I'm not exactly a person who is good with words...I guess what I mean to say is I thought you were the kind of person who didn't exactly...um, relate to people your age...You just don't seem like the kind that hangs out with the crowd...Ugh, I'm just...really sorry."
Cupid didn't respond at first, but eventually, he faced the older male and spoke, "Oh...okay. I…I guess I see what you mean...To be honest, I only have one friend…Her name is Teddy...and she's really nice."
"Oh?" asked the Zoroark as a slight smirk formed. "Do you like her?"
The Buneary widened his eyes and quickly turned away, "N-no! She's just my friend!"
"Are you sure you don't like her?" pressed the older male, amused by the younger one's reaction.
"Well, maybe just a little..." admitted the rabbit a few seconds later.
"Does she know this?"
"What? No! I can't tell her," he shot back as the younger male became flustered.
"Why not?" asked the Zoroark in a tone that mocked the word innocent.
"I...I...I don't wanna ruin our friendship. She's probably the first person I've met that doesn't mind being friends with me in public," managed to say the normal-type with a weak smile. "I guess it's better to say I appreciate her more than 'like' since she accepted me for me..."
As the last of his words were stated, a look of obvious content was written on the rabbit's face.
"I see," was the dark-type's rather short response as he kept his head tilted downwards, giving the rabbit a quick look every few seconds. Hesitantly, he asked the younger male, "Say though, if you were to find you felt something a little more than appreciation for her as well as manage to build the courage to tell her, and she rejected you..."
"I would understand. It's her choice."
"What? Wouldn't you use your powers?" Bruno questioned the Buneary in mild shock.
Cupid shook his head gently, "No. It's her decision. I wouldn't want to force her to love me because of a spell or whatever. I would want Teddy to love me for me…Just how she likes me now as a friend."
"I see..." Bruno replied, ending the conversation permanently.
Silence followed as both males stared forward; neither of them sure how to continue their previous discussion.
However, this dilemma was soon forgotten when the Zoroark suddenly extended his paw and pointed at a Pokémon.
Cupid followed the direction of where Bruno's claw went, widening his eyes when seeing who his friend was referring to.
"Kid," began the dark-colored fox. "I think I found her."
A quick scan of the three Pokémon that had joined him was enough to call Guadalupe's plan a success. However, the meeting that would occur shortly would determine whether he was alone in the task to catch the culprit or not.
It pleased him immensely that his old friend, Victoria, sat beside him, but it was rather obvious she was still angered at his comments from before.
Oh well. Her presence was enough for him. He continued looking and spotted the female Charmeleon and Flaaffy sitting next to one another other, talking about something foreign to him.
Clearing his throat, the Scizor began to speak, "Ahem, thank you for showing up. It means a lot, even if it's only you three."
"What do you mean?" asked the Flaaffy. "I'm not sure I understand..."
"Well, as you're well aware, we've all been targeted by some unknown person with an arrow," the only male of the group began. "We aren't exactly the only ones...as I've learned. Apparently, there have been others, but those idiots don't seem exactly bothered."
"Oh really? Was it that Pikachu and her friends by chance?" asked the fire lizard curiously.
"Perhaps, but what I'm referring to is some of the acquaintances the Pikachu has," responded the Scizor immediately, occasionally eyeing his Froslass friend to see if she conveyed any opinion towards the current conversation. Unfortunately for him, it seemed she was tuning out everything.
Nonetheless, he met the red reptile's gaze as she opened her mouth and inquired, "I'm sorry to change the subject but what was your name, sir? I don't believe you've told me."
"Guadalupe," was his short emotionless reply. "And yours?"
"Cristina," said the Charmeleon. Afterwards, she pointed towards the Flaaffy and introduced her as well, "This is Marissa. She was the other target in our attack."
The bug-type nodded, "I see. Do you have anything to say, Marissa?"
Marissa shook her head quickly at his question as the fire lizard spoke up, "Ah, I'm sorry. She's a little shy, but she's quite the sweetheart once you get to know her!"
As she said this, her claw rested on the Flaaffy's back. The electric-type didn't seem to mind at all as she continued to stare around the area to see who else was around.
"I see. Anyways, let's move on...Hmm, what do you think is the motive behind these assaults?" remarked the red colored bug Pokémon as he kept his stare on the younger pokémon in front of him. He had a vague idea but not much of it made sense to him.
"Umm..." Marissa started, unsure what to say next. "I...Perhaps there's no...No um, well, I don't think there's any m-malice behind this...I mean...a bunch of other Pokémon...apparently were hit by this...guy...and...They're still ok…"
Cristina agreed immediately and added, "Yeah. Perhaps, it's just this kid's odd way off pulling a prank."
Guadalupe sighed, "I suppose that could be a possibility, but on the other hand, I don't want to take any chances...Plus, it's very rude, and if this is a kid, they need to be taught a lesson."
"I guess that's okay," mused Cristina, deep in thought. "You know, speaking of kids...the day I was attacked I met this Buneary...named…What was it…? Uh…I think…I think it was…Frank!"
"Oh?" The Scizor leaned forward a bit, obviously interested in what she had to say. "What about this Buneary?"
"Well, he was younger than me...And he seemed a little bit on the odd side...Actually," the fire lizard paused for a moment. "He kinda left a little bit before I was….Oh my Arceus."
"Hmm, it seems this Frank could be our culprit," the male bug-type noted, narrowing his eyes.
"I…I guess...It just seemed Frank...was a little too timid to do such a thing...And..." the Charmeleon fell silent. She proceeded to stand up, "I...I think I'm going to need some time alone...Umm, I'll be going..."
"Very well," Guadalupe responded in an understanding tone. "Tell me if you remember anything else...or if you have any new information on this Frank, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," replied Cristina as she got out of her seat and began to leave. "I'll see you all later..."
"C-Cristina, hold up...I'll uh...I'll go with you," the electric sheep Pokémon called as she decided to jump out of her seat and go after the fire-type.
With those two gone, the Scizor realized he was alone with Victoria.
It remained quiet before the bug-type opened his mouth and nervously began to say, "Victoria..."
"I think you're wrong about Frank," the ice-type interjected.
"What?"
"Frank. I know him. His mother is a good friend of mine," explained the Froslass as she turned to face her old friend with a worried look, "Please don't be too harsh on him or his mother."
The Scizor glared briefly at the ice ghost before looking down, "I can't guarantee that, Tori."
She huffed in annoyance, "I don't see why it should matter, or why you're wasting so much time on this to be honest."
"Tori," the Scizor tried to interrupt her but was hushed immediately.
"No, let me talk," she hissed. "I mean I don't see anything evil behind this! I really don't."
"I just want to be sure."
"Sure about what? What's there to be sure about? It's common sense, Lupe!"
"Listen, I just wanna make sure nothing happens to you."
"What?"
Guadalupe kept his gaze towards the floor as he spoke, "Yeah...I just want to make sure…You're…Nothing happens to you. There probably isn't anything bad behind them...other than some kid with a horrible sense of humor…but I just want to be sure."
"O-oh," Victoria fell silent as she looked away. "I...Thank you... I don't know what to say...I..."
"It's alright if you don't feel the same. Ju-"
"Lupe?"
"Hm?" he looked up, staring at the Froslass. He would have been lying if he said he wasn't nervous about her reaction.
He had expected her to be looking away and trying to find the words of how she didn't feel the same way.
However, instead of the reaction he had expected, Victoria quickly kissed him on the cheek and smiled.
His eyes widened as he placed a claw on cheek, unsure of what had just happened.
"I appreciate the thought, and I guess it's alright if you figure out who's behind this..."
"...T-that's good," the Scizor stuttered out as he avoided eye contact. "Victoria..."
"Hmm?"
"What did yo-" he paused as the ice-type leaned on him lightly and giggled.
Grinning childishly, she commented, "You're so cute when you're flustered."
A/N: End of chapter 16. I'm actually really excited to write this thing with Bruno's future love interest so there's a possibility I may update more often. If not, SO SORRY.
Read and review, and bai!
