Merry Christmas, Happy Late Hanukkah, and other holidays that are happening now! (Sorry, I don't many other holidays, but I don't want exclude anyone!) So, as a holiday present, here's a chapter for you all!
Excentricaluli- That it does! I didn't want to end the story with her not forgetting. I think this story will be over soon. Possibly. I am having fun writing it, and every time I do, I pretend I'm in the story. :)
Aboutnici- Thanks for the review! I don't remember you reviewing before, but then again, my memory is very bad! Lol. Anyways, there is ONE thing that will make Sarah's memories come back... Question is, will it be in this chapter?
Afraidofspiders- I can tell you right now, it's not the ring. ;) But you definitely are onto something! Thanks for commenting!
Xepher06- Thank you! I know, I was kind of upset that I went in that direction, but I thought it would be a great twist. :)
Rowanda took Jareth back to his castle so that Sarah and Esmerald could talk. Esmerald thought that if Jareth had stayed there and talked to Sarah anymore, he would get frustrated and do something completely drastic that wasn't warranted. With Sarah not having her memory, Esmerald wanted to keep her as calm and happy as she could, considering they didn't really know what she could with her powers yet. "Now Sarah, why are you so sure that you didn't marry Jareth?"
Sarah made cooing noises at Valentina then looked up at Esmerald. "Because I hate him." Sarah didn't understand how these people didn't understand that she would never marry someone that she hated. It wasn't part of her plan. In fact, she didn't really know what her plan was anymore. How could she not know? She could have sworn that she had her whole life planned out and now she couldn't remember it. It wasn't fair.
"Sarah, how do you know you hate him, if you didn't remember him?"
Sarah narrowed her eyes in confusion. How could she hate someone that she didn't remember? It just seemed so impractical to hate someone that you had never met. On the other hand, these people kept telling her that she knew who Jareth was, and that they were married. Nothing made sense to her anymore. "I don't know." Esmerald sat down next to Sarah on the grass. She told her the story of how she met Jareth and that Jareth had fallen in love with her while she ran the Labyrinth and even more in love with her after she had beat him. Even though he was sorely upset after she beat him. "Who is Toby?"
Darin had done a number on her. To make her forget about her whole life? That was such a heinous thing to do. Esmerald had never been more upset at Darin. He had really made a mess out of things this time. The other times he had made a mess, Esmerald and King Abbot had fixed it right away so that there would be no fallback for the family. "Toby is your little brother. He lives in the Aboveground with your father and step-mother."
Sarah shook her head as if she was not understanding a word that came out of Esmeralds mouth. "What's the Aboveground?" Sarah asked slowly.
Esmerald knew there was only one thing that she could to prove to Sarah that she really was from the Aboveground. Jareth wouldn't be happy about it, but it had to be done. One way or another, Esmerald was going to help Sarah get her memories back. She held her hand out to Sarah. "Take my hand. I want to show you something."
"Is that like a freaky power you have or something? To show me something when I touch your hand?"
Esmerald smiled slightly and shook her head. "No my dear. We're going to take a trip."
Sarah took Esmeralds hand, while holding Valentina really close to her. Sarah was not ready for the trip that Esmerald told her they were going on. She thought that they were going to be walking somewhere or driving somewhere. Not for the teleporting that happened. It made her dizzy and sick to her stomach. "Where are we?" Sarah asked after she saw her surroundings. They were in front of a house. A two story house with a nice front porch. There was swing softly moving in the light wind.
"This is where your family lives."
Sarah's head snapped toward Esmerald. "What family are you talking about? I don't have one." Sarah looked around again. "Where is this place?" She was so frustrated with not being able to remember what this lady was telling her.
"Will you just trust me?" Esmerald asked. Seeing as how Sarah really had no idea what was going on, and this lady with her clearly did, she really had no other choice but to trust her. Esmerald started walking up the stairs to the door, so Sarah proceeded to follow her. Esmerald knocked on the door and Toby answered. "Hello there dear child, can you please go get your father?"
Toby looked around Esmerald and he locked eyes with Sarah. "Sarah!" Toby ran past Esmerald and grabbed onto Sarah's leg. Sarah looked down at Toby in shock. This was a very strange day for Sarah. She was told that she was married, had a family, and that she had powers that she didn't know how to handle.
"What is going on out here?" Sarah looked up and saw a guy who looked vaguely familiar standing in the doorway. "Sarah?" Sarah swallowed. How could all these people know her name was Sarah and she did not?
Esmerald smiled at Sarah and turned her attention to Robert. "You'll have to forgive her. She doesn't remember who she is." Esmerald paused for a moment. "She also doesn't remember anyone who actually cares about her." Esmerald put her arm around Sarah and started walking her to the door. "If you let us in, I'll explain everything to you."
Robert let them in and brought them into the living room, which also looked vaguely familiar to Sarah. Robert looked at Esmerald and asked her quietly, "Who does that child belong to, and who are you?"
Esmerald sat down on the couch as Toby begged Sarah to go play with him. Esmerald encouraged her to go, as long as she left Valentina with her. At first, Sarah resisted but then she gave in. The urge to play with the small child took over. As soon as Sarah and Toby were out of ear shot, Esmerald held Valentina out to Robert. "This is Valentina. She is your granddaughter. And I am Esmerald. You daughters mother in law."
Robert looked as if he was truly shocked. There was no way that child could be his grandchild. He had just found out a month ago that Sarah was pregnant. It didn't make any sense. "Sarah did not give birth to a full term baby in a month."
"In the Underground where Jareth and Sarah live, you do. It literally only takes a few days to have a baby. Which is why all my children were born only months apart."
"I don't understand how that can be."
Esmerald pulled Valentina back to her lap and cradled her. "In the Underground, time moves differently. Our days are longer, which would make you think that pregnancy would be longer for us women, but like the time difference, pregnancy is different. That is the only thing that goes fast in our world." She could see that Robert still very unconvinced. "Would you like a DNA test?"
Robert shook his head. "No. I believe you. From everything my ex-wife told me, I can believe it. It's just hard. I never knew this kind of stuff existed. It's taking me a while to believe it." This time, he reached for Valentina and Esmerald happily handed her over. The love he felt when he held Valentina was too strong to not be real. "Now please tell me why my daughter can't remember anything about her life."
Esmerald told him the whole story about Darin and his obsession with Sarah. Needless to say, Robert was not happy. Not by a long shot. "Your son Jareth allowed this to happen to my sweet innocent daughter? I thought he was going to protect her!"
Esmerald was starting to grow angry. How dare he think he could talk about her son that way. If he had something bad to say about Darin, he was free to do so. Especially after all that he had to hurt his own family. But Jareth was off limits. The only reason that Jareth had even met Sarah was because of her own actions. Luckily for Robert, Esmerald knew that now was not the time to fight. Especially with her new extended family. Whom she wanted to get to know. She loved Sarah, so she figured that her family must be as amazing as Sarah was. "He did as much as he could do. given the circumstances. Darin is-" She had to stop for a minute. She had to remember that Darin was dead now. "was not a good guy. He was absolutely a good son, he treated his parents with respect. No matter how much he messed up, I still loved him, but he was he was not a good guy. Not by a long shot." Esmerald looked around her quickly. "Now, I'm here to help Sarah get her memories back. Are you willing to help me?"
Robert let out a sigh. "Why would I help you? So you can help her get her memories back and so she can leave me and never come back and see me?"
Esmerald gave a low chuckle. "If you think I would keep Sarah away from her parents and little brother, you are sadly mistaken. I would never do that, because I too am a parent. Children are the most precious gift you could ever have. Taken her away from you would be counterproductive. She needs you in her life if she is to get her memories back."
He didn't want to admit it, but he somehow knew that Esmerald was right. Sarah did need his help, and he would do anything to help her. After all, she was his little girl. "What can I do to help?"
Esmerald smiled and sat up straight.
This is the worst day ever!" Jareth screamed as he threw his throne around until it broke into a million small pieces. "How could Darin make her forget me? I would never do the same to him! Never!" He looked at Rowanda who was sitting on a stool that she had conjured up. "I swear, if she leaves me, there will be hell to pay. No one will know when or how, but I will destroy everyone and every single thing." Tears came to his eyes. "Sarah is my life. My world. How will I go on without her?"
"Jareth, I'm really sorry that you and Sarah have to go through this. After every horrible thing that Darin put you through, you don't need to be dealing with this now."
"I wish father could help, but he doesn't have that kind of power. The only person I've ever seen with that kind of power was Darin." Jareth pulled the ring that he had given to Sarah out of his pocket and stared at it intently.
"Did you think of something that could help get Sarah's memories back, Jareth?"
For the first time that day, Jareth smiled. "I think I might have." Jareth put the ring back into his pocket. "Come dear sister. I have a marvelous idea."
