As I said to Angela Jones, I'm sorry it's taking so long to update. With the health issues and writing my own book make it kind of hard to update all the time. I promise I'll try to be better. Please be patient with me. :)
Watching Robert play with Valentina made Esmerald smile, but it also made her sad. It made her realize that since Valentina had been born, King Abott and her hadn't been able to play with her. Since she had been born, Darin had made it impossible to spend any time with her, without chaos ensuing. "She's beautiful, isn't she?"
Robert's voice broke Esmerald out of her thoughts. She smiled as she said, "Of course she is!" Esmerald leaned in and caressed Valentina's face. "Her parents are gorgeous, so it stands to reason that she would be as well."
"Where is she?" Robert and Esmerald turned to see Jareth standing there with Rowanda. Jareth took one look at Valentina in Robert's arms and fury grew in his heart. In an instant, Valentina was back in his arms, right where he thought she was meant to be. "Where is my wife?" Jareth asked again.
Robert didn't like his tone, but even more so, he hated that Jareth took Valentina away from him. Although, he could understand. When Sarah was born, Robert hated having anyone other than himself or Linda hold her. She was his pride and joy. His first born. His little girl. It was classic "Daddy's Little Girl" syndrome.
Esmerald could see Robert and Jareth staring each other down. She didn't want any more trouble, especially with everything Sarah was going through right now. "Jareth, he is her grandfather. He should be allowed to spend time with Valentina as well."
As much as Robert wanted to continue the stare down, he chose to stand up and walk to the stairs that led up to the bedrooms. "She's playing with Toby, Jareth." Robert really didn't want to hand his daughter over to Jareth, but he knew that Jareth could make his life very unpleasant.
Jareth was growing angry. He felt like Robert was trying to keep her away on purpose. Trying to play games with him. "Where are they playing, exactly?" Jareth handed Valentina over to Rowanda before turning back to Robert. "I wish to see my wife, and no one will keep her from me. Do you understand me?"
Esmerald had enough of Jareth acting like a selfish brat who had put down his toy, and his friend picked it up, and wanting it back immediately. "Jareth, we are all effected by Sarah's memory loss. Not just yourself. Stop acting like she is all yours, because you are not her only family. You may think you are, but that most certainly is not the case. Now, keep yourself calm."
"I'll take you to her." Robert said as he started up the stairs. He just wanted to get Jareth out of his house without it exploding or some other force of nature he could conjure up while he was angry.
They walked into Toby's room, where they found Sarah and Toby playing cars. Toby was smiling, and Sarah was laughing. It was sight that many of them had never thought they would see again. Especially Robert. "Sarah?"
As soon as Sarah heard his voice, she sighed and rolled her eyes. "I'm not going anywhere with you, Jareth." For some reason, she started smiling. "I thought I made it abundantly clear that I hate you."
The moment Toby saw Jareth, he ran over to him and wrapped his tiny arms around Jareth's legs. Sarah turned to face Jareth, who was running his hand through Toby's sandy blonde hair, almost like he wanted to taunt Sarah. "I thought I told you leave my brother alone! He has nothing to do with this!"
In an instant, Toby was standing next to Sarah, and she didn't even realize how she did it. "My love, you remember that?"
Sarah looked around at everyone standing in front of her. She knew that they all wanted her to remember her life. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't. And she definitely tried. Especially after she started playing with Toby, she really wanted to remember him, if not anyone else. "No." She said in a whisper. "I know that I should, but I can't. I just can't!"
Jareth took a step forward, but stopped there. "But, you just said-"
Annoyed, Sarah lashed out. "I know what I said! I must have said it out of habit. "Sarah took a quick glance at Toby, and uttered in his direction, "I'm sorry." Then she was gone.
Rowanda took a look around the room, making sure that Sarah was really gone, before asking, "Where did she go?"
Jareth turned to face the three remaining adults in the room. How could this be happening to him? Jareth thought that once Darin was dead, everything would be back to normal. He thought that he would have a happy family. Maybe it would be something like the way he grew up with his siblings and parents. Until Sarah got her memories back, he would never know if this would be the case. He took Valentina from Rowanda and handed her to Esmerald. "I have no earthly idea, but I will find her."
"Can't you just sense her?" Rowanda asked.
Jareth shook his head. "The only way to do that, would be if she still had this on." Jareth pulled Sarah's wedding ring from his pocket and showed it to everyone.
"You have a tracking device in my daughters wedding ring?" Robert practically huffed.
"I did what I had to do to protect Sarah! I do not regret one thing I have done."
Robert scoffed. "Fine job you did! My daughter is walking around our city not knowing where anything is. All because you tried to keep her safe."
Thunder clapped above them and Toby started crying. "Jareth, I told you to calm yourself." She nodded in Toby's direction. "We don't want young Toby to be upset, now do we?"
Jareth's face softly changed from an angry man, to what seemed like a young boy who was being chastised by his mother. "Mother, I am sorry, but he is really pushing my last nerve."
A soft smile crept to Esmeralds lips. "You remember that he is a father, just as you are."
Defeat crossed Jareth's face, and turned to Robert, sticking his hand out to him. "What are you doing?" Robert asked his cautiously.
Confused, Jareth pulled his hand back. "Do you not shake hands when apologizing?"
"We do, I'm just not sure that you aren't trying to grab my hand to kill me or something."
"I would never be able to look Sarah or Valentina in the eyes again. You are a part of their life, and I killed you, they would never forgive me." Jareth gave a sinister smile. "Although, I wouldn't be opposed to doing so, if you keep working my last nerve."
There stood a lot of awkward silence between them for a few moments, before Robert asked, "Is that the only reason you're letting me live?"
"No. Not the only reason. Mostly the main one. The other reason is standing behind me. Young Tobias needs his father. Not to mention, your wife also needs you." Jareth turned to face Esmerald. "Will you please bring Valentina back home and make sure she gets adequate rest?"
Jareth was gone before Esmerald could give him an answer. She looked at Robert, who seemed to be a little upset. She didn't know if it was because Sarah wasn't able to remember him, or if it was because she was supposed to bring Valentina home. "Do not worry Robert, I will not leave just yet. I know you would like to spend more time with Valentina, and you should be able to do so. After all, she is your grandchild." Esmerald handed Valentina over to Robert, and he said a quiet thank you.
Jareth found himself standing in the middle of the park. All he found was an empty park. Not one single person was around. He went to the next place that crossed his mind. Sandra opened the door to her apartment, where she found Jareth smiling at her. She wondered how she could have ever found him attractive. Now that she knew who and what he was, she despised him. She almost shut the door in his face, but she remembered that doing so, wouldn't stop him from actually stop him from coming into the apartment. "What do you want?"
"Well, hello to you also Sandra."
Sandra wasn't stupid. She knew that Jareth could make her life a living hell. At this point, she couldn't have cared less. "Again, what do you want?"
"I need your help."
Sandra's eyes widened. What had Jareth done to Sarah now, that he needed her help with? "Why would I help you? Again."
"You are aware that I could turn your life upside down, right?"
"I'm perfectly aware of that fact." Sandra allowed Jareth into her apartment. "What do you want my help with?"
Jareth sat down on the couch where he found out that Sarah was pregnant. "First, I need to know if you have seen Sarah."
"No. Last I knew, Sarah was with you, in your castle. How's the pregnancy?"
"There is a quite a bit you don't know. The pregnancy is done, we have a beautiful daughter. My brother erased all of Sarah's memories. Then he replaced her love of me, to hate."
"That stupid son of a-"
"If I were you, I would be careful how I finish that sentence. His mother is my mother, after all."
"Sorry." Sandra sat down next to Jareth on the couch. "What do you want me to do?"
Jareth pulled the ring out of his pocket and handed it over to Sandra. "I need you to somehow trick Sarah into putting this ring on. On her ring finger."
"Did you check the park?"
"I did, and there not a soul there."
Sandra sighed. "I'll look for her." Sandra put the ring in her own pocket and started to head out of her apartment. "I would ask you to leave, but I know that I can lock the door, and still have it locked when you leave."
Sandra pulled up to the park, just to see if Sarah had shown up since Jareth had been there. "He was right, there is not a single person here." It was weird, because it was three in the afternoon and usually at this time, children would be littering the park.
After searching for what seemed like hours, Sandra went to the diner that Sarah used to work at. When she walked in, she saw Eric standing over Sarah. Instantly, Sandra made her way over and grabbed Sarah by the shoulder. "Sarah?"
The girl turned around and replied, "I'm sorry. My name is Lindy."
Sandra apologized profusely and grabbed Eric's hand. "We need to talk."
Eric brought Sandra to the back of the diner. "What the hell was that about?"
"I'm looking for Sarah. Have you seen her?"
"Why exactly would I have seen her? Last I knew, she was happy in England with her husband and the baby on the way." Sandra could tell that Eric was still furious about the whole situation. He obviously still had feelings for Sarah.
She couldn't exactly tell him everything, so she told him what she could. "Sarah lost her memory. She doesn't know who she is or who anyone else is for that matter." Sandra saw hope light up in Eric's eyes. "Don't think about it Eric. She's still married." He was about to say something, but she stopped him. "No. She's off limit's." Sandra looked at Lindy. "You might want to stick with your Sarah replacement."
"That's not what Lindy is."
Sandra looked back at Eric. "Really? Because she sure looks a helluva lot like Sarah."
Eric's shoulders slumped in defeat. "Please don't ruin this for me, Sandra."
"I won't." Sandra looked at her watch. It was almost five. "I have to continue looking for Sarah. If you do see her, please call me."
Sandra stopped by Lindy to apologize again.
"It's really no big deal. I've been mistaken for other people before." Lindy said sweetly.
Sandra looked up to start walking out of the diner, but as she started walking to the door, Sarah walked in. She was enthralled with the décor. Staring at everything in wonder. Sandra wasn't in love with the décor. It was a 50's style diner. Finally, Sarah sat down and Sandra made sure to sit down next to her. "Can I get you anything?" Eric asked as he walked over to them.
"Um, I don't know, what do you have that's good to eat? Since I arrived at my supposed father's house, I haven't had anything to eaten and I'm starving."
"Supposed father?" Eric asked curiously.
"Oh, I lost my memory. Everyone continues to tell me that he's my father, so he must be."
"Gotcha. So, have you figured out what you want to eat?"
"What do you recommend?"
"How about steak and fries?"
"That sounds great." Eric ran to the back and started making Sarah's meal.
Sandra was happy that Eric didn't let on that he knew her. "So, you lost your memory, huh?
Sarah turned to Sandra. "Yea, these people that I've been with since I woke up keep telling me I'm married." Sarah looked at her left hand. "I told them that if I was married, I would have a ring."
"That's usually how it goes."
Sarah looked over Sandra's face. "Why do you look so sad?"
"Oh, I'm not sad. I'm just a little confused."
"About what?"
Sandra reached into her pocket, where the ring was and took it out. "My boyfriend asked me to marry him and I just don't know if should."
"Do you love him?"
"I do."
"Then do it."
Sandra smiled at Sarah who was eying her ring. "You can try it on if you want to."
Sarah's eyes widened with glee. "Are you sure?" Sandra nodded and Sarah put the ring on. "I could see myself wearing a ring like this."
"Sarah?"
Stunned, Sarah turned to face Sandra completely. "How did you know my name?"
"You're not remembering anything?"
"I'll take it from here, Sandra. Thank you." Jareth grabbed Sarah by the arm and started to lead her outside.
Eric came running when he heard Sarah screaming at someone to let her go. Before he could step in and help Sarah, Sandra stopped him. "You don't want to get involved. That's her husband."
Jareth got outside with Sarah without any interference. "So, you still have not remembered anything?"
"No. Even if I did get my memories back, I would still hate you."
"We shall see about that." Jareth said just before they ended up in the castle.
"I'm just going to teleport or whatever back to where your mother brought me."
"You can not."
"Why can't I?"
Jareth didn't want to do this again. Sarah hated it when he locked her inside the castle. "I put a barrier around the castle. No one can come in or go out."
"What about Valentina? I am her mother, and she needs me!"
"Valentina will be fine. She's with my mother and sister. I've decided that we are not leaving until you get your memory back."
Sarah walked over to her throne, which happened to be the only chair not broken in the room, and flung her self into it. "This isn't fair Jareth! You can't just lock me in this castle whenever you don't get your own way! I'm your wife for crying out loud!" Sarah stopped for a minute to catch her breath. "I love you Jareth, I really do. But if you lock me in this castle one more time, I will take Valentina and leave you."
Jareth's jaw dropped open. "You said you love me." For the first time in Jareth's life that he could remember, he cried.
"Of course I do! I wouldn't have married you if I didn't." Finally Sarah got a good look of the room. "What happened here? The last thing I remember was being restrained to a chair in a box that Darin put me in."
"I tried to protect you my love, I really did."
Sarah ran over to Jareth and wrapped him in a tight hug. "I know baby, I know. You tried as hard as you could and Darin just played dirty." She looked around to make sure that Darin wasn't anywhere around. "Where is he?" She asked Jareth nervously.
"He's finally dead. I killed him."
Sarah kissed Jareth, and before he knew it, they were in their bedroom, where they celebrated Sarah getting her memory back.
