Transition
A small mimiga walks back towards his home, returning laden with the spoils from his fishing trip. He wishes that he never had to leave from his fishing escapade, but he knows he must return home at some point. As he leaves the reservoir, he sees another mimiga sitting by a small pool of water near the entrance. He smiles as he walks over to her. She looks up, a smile crossing her face as well.
"Kanpachi!" She gets up and hugs her friend. The boy laughs and sets down his pail and pole.
"You knew where I was," says the boy.
"Well ya," says the girl, letting go. "But I didn't want to disturb you. I know how you like to fish alone."
"Chie..." He and the girl are about the same age. In fact, they are really the only two mimigas left that are still that young. Not many children had survived the Doctor's reign. The two had been close friends before the holocaust-like event, and had grown significantly closer after the fact. The boy realizes that when he goes alone to fish, his friend must feel very alone. And it isn't as if he would be too terribly bothered if she tagged along sometimes...
"... If you want," says the boy, "You could come with me next time."
The girl's eyes get wide. "Really?" The boy nods, and is assaulted with another tight embrace from his friend. The girl lets go, and the boy reaches for his pail and pole. He grabs the pail, but is stopped after that by the girl, who takes hold of his other hand in hers. She takes the pole and smiles to the boy, who, feeling slightly embarrassed, smiles back. They walk back towards the village together, hand in hand.
As they walk, they pass a taller, older mimiga wearing a green vest and brown cap. The two greet the taller one as they pass by, and he waves to them as they leave. He pushes up his glasses as he looks around. He's the number one in this village now... And he's done his best to protect it since the Event. For some reason, the odd mushrooms that had been running around the graveyard have quieted down a bit. They're still there, but there aren't as many of them.
The tall one is strong, but not the strongest. What he lacks in strength, however, he makes up for in intelligence. He sports a Snake, one of the most dangerous weapons a mimiga can wield. He quite fond of his firearm, as he is one of the few to master its ways. He smiles as he looks over the town he has sworn to protect, as its residents return to their houses for the night. He closes his eyes and lifts his head.
"... I hope I've made you proud, King..." He sighs and looks back down as a member of the guard approaches to take his shift. He smiles and pats his comrade on the back as he hops down from his post. He returns to the Town Hall, which is where he now calls his home. As he turns to enter the building, he catches a glimpse of the two kids from before out of the corner of his eye. The girl hands the boy back his fishing pole, but as she does, she pulls him close and rubs her nose on his. The tall one turns his head just a bit to see the boy blush as the girl turns and runs back to her home, waving with cheeks red as well. The tall one smiles, and closes his eyes. The village slows down for the night, but the boy does not. His heart races in anticipation for the coming morning.
Notes From the Author
Hello, readers! Sorry I posted at such an ungodly hour of the night, but I was determined to make it on Monday. I decided to take a minute to describe life in and on the island for the Mimigas.
Also, if you were confused on the meaning and nature of the rubbing of noses, I had decided to convey the Mimiga's displays of affection in a manner similar to an Eskimo or Bunny kiss. I just thought that would be a nice touch. So whatever. Anyway, I'm still trying to think of a way to bring some sort of action into Chapter 9, so as soon as I figure that out, I'll get in the rest of the chapter. I'm working on a ton of projects right now, (And by a ton, I mean like... 4, including this one, maybe 5, the last one is pending, as well as stuff that I'm supposed to be doing for school. I really should not be doing this much stuff,) so finding time to work on one thing is a bit difficult. (And I'm just hoping to whatever god there might be that this drama shit that's going down in my personal life ceases to exist. Because, you know, that'd be nice.) I have no idea if any of you ever read these notes, or if you are interested in any of the projects I'm working on, but I may be posting something about them on my tumblr.
The feed is called "the n00b blog". And yes, those are zeros for o's. I'm not so sure it was one of my more intelligent decisions. Anyway, that's all I have for this update, so I hope you enjoyed some part of it. Tune in next week for... something new! I can't guarantee what it will be though, whether it be another Transition or the next chapter. I hope you'll be back then for it, though!
Sincerely,
Alaystus
-EDIT-
Kudos to LUimH for finding my error with the Jack/Jake ordeal. I have changed the text so that it no longer includes his name, as the only way I could give his name was through that pun, (which I was so proud of...).
Also, I took a look at the links I had included, and they did not appear to have actually existed in reality. Unfortunately, I do not remember the link for the website that lists the characters' names, but my tumblr page is still as follows;
.com
If the link above also doesn't appear to actually exist, I apologize. Just look up Alaystus on tumblr.
This is, sadly, all I have to contribute for the time being. I'd be happy to hear back from more of you, if you feel it necessary to say anything. As always, enjoy the rest of your time until next Monday, and then enjoy Monday even more, despite the fact that it is, in fact, a Monday.
Sincerely, (x2 Combo)
Alaystus
