We had all remained silent for a while after we discovered that Derek had been mutated. I couldn't understand how that would happen to someone, how they could put mechanics into your body and change the way it works without actually killing you, but Derek was living proof that it was possible. Jules had woken up a few hours after we had started driving again.
"Did something happen? You're all really quiet and it's sort of freaking me out." Jules said from the back. I saw Derek shake his head slightly.
"No. We're all just really tired and don't know what to do when we get to 13." He lied. Jules raised an eyebrow clearly not believing our story, but kept her mouth shut while we continued to drive away. I found myself looking back at the two of them every few minutes, just staring at them sitting so close to each other. Again, there was the pang of jealousy that surged through me when I noticed Derek's arm around her shoulder.
"Have you seen Teddy? Did they do the same to him as they did to you?" Finnick asked Derek, breaking the very uncomfortable silence. I sat up straighter hoping that Derek knew something that would reassure me that my brother wasn't hurt… Or at least badly hurt.
"I'm really sorry; I haven't seen him at all. I've heard a few of the guards talking about using him as bait though." Derek said sadly. Finnick rolled his eyes then looked back at Derek.
"Yeah, we all know that they're obviously going to use him for bait, that's nothing new." He grumbled.
"What Finnick means to say is thank you for telling us what you do know, but everyone could've figured that one out on their own…" I said quickly trying to make the situation a little bit better.
"They're going to do what they did to your dad." Jules spoke, her voice hardly audible.
"What?" Finnick asked. Jules nervously picked at her fingers.
"I heard a few of them talking when they thought that I had passed out from the torture. They're going to try to get information out of him, and if they can't then they're going to inject trackerjacker poison into him… Their way of trying to get him to talk." Everyone was silent. I now understood what Jules had meant when she said that they were going to do to Teddy what had happened to Dad.
"So if we actually save him he's going to try to kill us?" I asked sadly. Jules shrugged slightly.
"I guess so… I don't really know though. They would close the door before I could see or hear anything else." Finnick glanced at me before he slowly took my hand in his. Instead of pulling my hand away I let him hold it tightly. At least I still have him.

Three days later we made it to Thirteen. We never once stopped the car, driving all through the night. Finnick had parked the car on the outskirts of the District boundary.
"Take all the weapons you can." Finnick ordered while we got out and went around to the back. Jules had given Finnick her Peacekeeper disguise seeing as to how it was quite a few sizes too large for her and she wouldn't need it anyway. I had to silently admit to myself that the uniform looked pretty sexy on Finn. I pushed the thoughts aside so I could focus on the mission to retrieve Teddy.
"We're ready." Derek said while he helped Jules get her backpack on. Finnick and I had extra sets of clothing that we had in our backpacks so we gave them to Derek and Jules that way the white of their outfits won't give us away too badly. In fact we had to rub mud onto the Peacekeeper uniform so it wouldn't be as noticeable and could blend in easier. It was quite the task getting everyone ready, but once we were done it sure was worth it since there were no trees or anything to keep us hidden from hovercrafts that could spot us.
Finnick had cleared his throat slightly and took his spot as the leader of the group. Derek, Jules, and I walked behind him as he lead us out of the hiding place we had found for the vehicle. We hadn't made it very far before a large axe had lodged itself in the ground a few inches away from Finnick's foot. In a split second we were all pointing our weapons in the direction that the axe had come from.
"Well it's nice to see you too sweetheart. Now would you mind lowering those things before you accidently kill someone?" Finnick and I gasped when Haymitch walked out from the shadows with Gale and Marshall behind him. I dropped the gun I was holding then quickly ran over to them and threw my arms around Haymitch.
"I have never been so happy to see you." I practically sobbed. Haymitch chuckled and tapped my back slightly.
"You too kid. Where are your parents?" Haymitch asked while he looked around slightly.
"And Johannah…" Marshall added.
"We were ambushed. Not even ten minutes of being alone and the Capital came in with these huge tanks and weapons. They have them again. On our way out we found Derek and that's his friend Jules… You should see what they've done to him." I whispered to the three of them.
"Where's the rest of your group?" Finnick asked after he had walked over with Jules and Derek.
"They're all dead. We went through Four on our way over here. The Capital triggered a hurricane to occur every night." Gale explained.
"A hurricane?" Jules muttered; her eyes wide in shock.
" Yeah. Every. Single. Night. We were in there for a few days and it was hell. Trees were falling everywhere, the buildings were being torn to shreds, and there was water. All over the goddamn place. At one point we were pretty much swimming!" He angrily yelled.
"Shut up. We don't want to be found." Haymitch snapped. Gale shut his mouth, but one look in the eyes revealed his anger that was blazing inside.
"This reunion is great, but we should really get to wherever they're holding Teddy. I'm not really looking forward to seeing what's going to happen once night falls." Marshall said to us. We all silently agreed and started to walk out into the endless amount of open land.

Right before the sun had fully set we made it to the compound they were holding Teddy in. Marshall had cut a way through the fence surrounding the area with his ax then held it open for each of us as we wiggled our way through.
"Keep your weapons ready." Gale instructed. I looked back at him and saw him glare at Jules and Derek while we walked in. It was no secret that he hated the two of them. They came from the Capitals favorite Districts. Plus, he really doesn't even know them and everyone knows that Gale judges a book by its cover. Hell, he doesn't even look at the cover. It only takes a couple people to tell him about the book before he's decided how much he hates it. Mom used to tell me that there was a time when she loved Gale and he could've been our father. Teddy and I would only look at each other in horror. Mom and Gale? Married? That's a recipe for destruction right there.
"We need some of us to stay out here and keep watch. If you see them take Teddy out then contact us on the radios." Haymitch ordered.
"I'll stay out here. I'm not really sure of what Teddy looks like anyway." Jules offered.
"No. You two are going in there with me. I'm not letting them out of my sight." Gale said quickly. Derek and Jules glanced at each other nervously but remained silent.
"Fine. Gale you stay out here with them then." Haymitch said sternly to Gale. He unhappily grumbled something under his breath but took his post outside a door with Derek and Jules standing beside him. The rest of us slowly snuck into the compound and quietly peeked around the corner of a long hallway before we started to walk down it.
"I don't like this… It's too empty." Marshall whispered. I only nodded, focusing on trying to hear my little brothers voice. After a few more minutes of walking we all froze. From behind a door we had just passed a horrifying scream came pouring out. Finnick and I stared at the door. That was Teddy. There was no mistake that we had just heard Teddy.
"That's him. I know it." I said softly.
"You don't know that it's him. What if it's a jabberjay mimicking his screams?" Marshall whispered.
"That is not a jabberjay. I know that it's Teddy, we need to save him." I ordered.
"Hold on sweetheart, He's right, we don't know if that's really Teddy." Haymitch said while he held me back.
"Haymitch let me in there! That's my brother!" I struggled to get out of his grasp but it was too tight.
"You don't-" Before Haymitch could finish what he was saying Finnick opened the door. The image of President Snow sitting on a chair smiling devilishly beside Teddy's unconscious body, with a jabberjay perched above him will haunt me until the day I die. President Snow stood from his seat and opened his arms as if welcoming us.
"I've been waiting for you Ms. Mellark. It's nice of you to finally join my party."
The next chapter will hopefully be up soon! I hope you enjoyed and don't forget to review, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me! (please remember No flames)
