Back at home, Gwen managed to convince everybody that Spider-Woman had "saved" her from below the bridge. Everyone who heard this gave a sigh of relief that Gwen was okay. But others mourned the sudden loss of Norman Osborn, who they said hid behind the mask of the Goblin, but Peter knew that Norman was the mask and the Goblin was who Osborn really was.
Most affected by this was Harry, though. Who claimed that he was moving away to live with his grandmother and would be transferred to a private school near her place. Peter and Gwen waved off their friend. And things slowed down. A lot of the major villains were in jail, and the most major villain was presumed dead. Nothing was left for Spidey but to stop the slowly dwindling gang war, but within a few months…things would begin to pick up again.
It was the midst of summer when things picked back up. But the day when things picked back up began rather ordinarily…
"Okay, okay. Let me get things straight." Spidey wondered as he fell onto a roof of a truck "You couldn't even wait until the money got to the bank?" A man in black and white with a visor turned to him and said "Nope." He then pulled out a boomerang and tossed it at Spider-Man.
"So who are you?" Spidey asked mockingly as he leapt above the boomerang " ?"
"They call me…Boomerang!" the main proclaimed proudly. "Boomerang…right." Spidey sighed in disbelief at somebody actually being called Boomerang.
"So you toss Boomerangs?" Spidey asked. Boomerang nodded as he tossed another one. Spidey caught the boomerang in a web and threw it back at the man who threw it. It clunked him in the head and he fell over. Spidey wrapped him up and leapt off the truck.
Waiting for him was Jean DeWolff. "Another job well done." She complimented as she took the webbed up crook.
"Just doin' my job." Spidey added.
"More like doing our job." DeWolff said "But not that that's a bad thing."
"Hey, it's always nice to help out the police force." Spidey replied, trying not to take all the credit. "Now take care of this crook, I gotta be heading elsewhere." Spidey then swung away.
DeWolff smiled as he left and put Boomerang in the police car.
Spidey landed on the roof of Aunt May's house, and ran inside. He had the shock of his life when who else should he see on the couch but Eddie Brock. Worst of all he was sitting with his girlfriend, Gwen!
"What are you doing here, Eddie?" Peter demanded to know. Eddie nonechalantly said "Oh please. Can't I have a sit down with my former co-worker and best pal Peter Parker? Also you've got a lovely girlfriend. Lucky she survived the Goblin incident months ago, am I right?"
Gwen blushed as she added "I think can stay here and hang with us for a bit, Pete. What's he doin' that's so wrong?"
He wasn't doing anything now, but Eddie had been stalking Pete for a long time now. Everywhere Peter was, Eddie had usually followed. Even on roofs and other places he shouldn't have been able to get to.
"Fine, he can stay for a little bit…" Peter said, still disapproving. Aunt May then hobbled in from the kitchen and said "Yes, helped me and Gwen fold the laundry, Peter. He's such a dear."
Eddie detested "I ain't a dear, . I'm jus' a guy who can't help himself when it comes to helpin' pretty old things like you." May giggled and said "Such a gentleman."
Peter glared at Eddie and Eddie smirked back at him. "Aren't you gonna take a seat?" he asked rather smugly. Peter sat next to him and looked across to see Gwen.
Eddie wrapped his arm around both Peter and Gwen as he said "All three 'a us. We're good buddies, we are. At least we will be."
Gwen agreed "I hope so, . Me n' Pete used to have a trio but…" she then trailed into thinking about Harry and how he left. She frowned slightly.
"Gwen!" Peter protested "You can't just replace Harry with this guy." Gwen gave a glare and Eddie just frowned. "Peter you hurt his feelings!" she said as she shook her head.
Brock denied "Nah 's fine, Gwen. Some people jus' don't like me. I know didn't like me when he fired me…"
Peter hung his head. "Fine. can hang around with us, but I won't like it" he said, rather bitter over this.
Gwen crawled over Eddie's lap and gave Pete a peck on the nose. "You will eventually."
Eddie looked at Peter while Gwen kissed him with a sick grin. Peter looked over at Brock, but then back at his girlfriend "I guess you're right, Gwen…" Peter accepted.
Gwen then sat right next to Eddie and then Eddie asked "I think we three should go out tonight! As buddies! I'll be fun, doncha think?"
"Three's a crowd, Eddie." Peter said, glaring daggers at him. Gwen gave him a look of shame and Peter went right back to saying "But fine, we can go as a crowd."
Eddie hugged them both and said "You aren't gonna regret this, guys. I'll show ya a good time."
Gwen asked "When do you wanna go, Eddie?" Eddie said "How about tonight! A night on the town! We'll paint the town black!"
Peter gave Eddie and odd look. "Don't you mean paint the town red?" he corrected.
Eddie shrugged "My mistake. We'll paint the town red, then. I'll even drive!"
Gwen then proclaimed "Oh I call shotgun!" Eddie said "Shotgun called! Sorry Pete!"
Peter crossed his arms and pleaded "Gwen. Don't you wanna sit in the back with me?"
Gwen reconsidered, but then Eddie said enthusiastically "Too late!" Gwen agreed "Yeah too late now, Pete."
Peter pouted and asked sounding unamused "When we going?"
"Let's go now we can waste the night away!" Eddie said happily as he walked over to the door. Gwen followed, and finally Peter did as well, still rather bitter over the whole thing.
Eddie introduced his car. "Isn't it a beaut?" he asked. It was a black sports car with a retractable roof. Gwen nodded and said "I can't wait to ride it!"
Peter sat in the back as both Gwen and Eddie talked. Could it be that he was jealous? Peter denied his jealousy, but he sure did feel it. By the time he looked back at the two, they were already in the car.
Gwen chuckled and asked "You gettin' in, goofball?" Peter grumbled got in the back of the car. Eddie yelled "SWEET! LET'S RIDE!"
The car then backed out of the driveway and out into town.
Elsewhere, Roderick Kingsley sat in what was once Norman Osborn's office. Thanks to Osborn buying out Kingsley's company, Kingsley was the only one left inherit the company. The board members were too afraid to step up to Oscorp's top, and Harry was still too young. Kingsley was perfect.
He sat alone until a man with white hair walked in with a vial of crimson liquid. "We've found out what's in this vial, …" the man said.
"Enlighten me, Doctor Warren." Kingsley asked of him.
"It's blood." Warren said "But not just any blood. It has Spider-DNA in it. This must be the blood of Spider-Man, boss! Osborn must have had it hidden." Kingsley smirked.
"What do you suppose we do with it, Miles?" Kingsley asked.
"Well, what I was thinking is that it could be used for my errr uhhh…cloning experiments." Warren replied.
Kingsley's smirked turned into a smile that reached from ear to ear. "I like it, Miles. Get to work right away."
Miles nodded and stepped out of the office.
"What do you have hidden here Osborn?" Roderick mumbled when the doctor stepped out of his office. He reached under his desk and pulled out the Hobgoblin costume.
"That can wait later, though." He said as he put on the costume. "For now the Hobgoblin needs to take front stage! And become well known!"
He then stepped on his glider and flew out the open window.
