So the four Spiders and Anti-Venom swung through the still distraught city, and then reached a boat. They head to take a boat because Carnage's hideout was at Rykers Island after all.
When they got there, nothing was left but a barely standing building and they stepped into Carnage's den. Sitting on what one might call a "throne," but most would call it a mass of flesh and bone molded into a chair. As soon as Anti-Venom stepped in, Carnage slightly winced.
"So…you all made it to my lair." He said as got up from his chair.
"That's right, Kasady! And we're here to put a stop to you!" Spidey proclaimed as he pointed his finger at Carnage.
Carnage laughed. "Why would you want to put a stop to me?! I'm the real hero of this city! Look at them! They've never been freer in their life!"
"They're being controlled by your symbiotic leaches!" Scarlet Spider detested.
Carnage stepped down from the steps that lead up to his throne. "The symbiote is merely helping them liberate themselves from the brainwashing of the government, man! It's all one big conspiracy! Don't you get it, man?! They've taken control of you, but don't worry! I'll liberate you yet!"
Silk tilted her head as she stepped back. "But nobody is controlling us we are acting on our own accord."
Gwen nodded "Silky's got a point, Kasady. We came here on our own."
"Ladies, don't let the collective consciousness control you, man!" Carnage tried arguing "My parents tried to control me, the government tried to control me, but I'm the only free spirit who's managed to break their bonds and see the government for what it really is, man!"
"You're insane!" Anti-Venom cried out.
Carnage growled at him. "Don't speak to me, artificial beast! You may have once been in the family, man! But I tell you now you're kicked out!"
Anti-Venom tackled Carnage and began "curing" his symbiote. Carnage pushed him off as he screeched "DON'T TAKE MY SWEET FROM ME!"
"Then you shouldn't have attempted to take my sweet from me!" Anti-Venom growled.
Carnage laughed as he jabbed his claws into Anti-Venom. "Your sweet? You mean Doctor Kafka, the person who tried to control me, a tool of the man to make us all drones who abide things such as 'laws' or 'rules?' Get out of my face, man!"
Anti-Venom stabbed Carnage back as Carnage let out a scream at the burning the Anti-Venom suit gave him. "What the hell are you going on about?!" Anti-Venom demanded to know as he twisted his symbiote claws around in Kasady's stomach.
"A tool of the government like you wouldn't get it! Only people like me and my assistant would get it!" Cletus said as stabbed Anti-Venom's eyes.
Spidey asked as the two fought "Wait…what do you mean 'your assistant?'"
Carnage continued jabbing his blades into Anti-Venom as he said "Duh! I didn't go in this alone! My partner is…the Green Goblin!"
Out from one of the abandoned shadowed prison cells, the Goblin flew out of as he threw off his trench coat. "All Spiders die tonight!"
"Harry?" Peter asked as he turned over to the Goblin.
The Goblin laughed as he said "Harry? Well that explains the second Goblin. But no, you can find Harry still in one of these cells. He never left!"
Spider-Woman then asked "If you aren't Harry, then who are you?"
The Goblin was about to divulge his identity, but then ground started shaking. Everyone looked outside as the ground continued shaking.
Spidey's Spider-Sense went off, and he web-yanked Gwen. A giant metalling leg stepped in through the roof and the familiar voice of the Hobgoblin could be heard coming from the speakers. "It's time for some extermination!"
Everyone instantly made their way out of the prison and what they saw as astonishing. It was a giant 8 legged mech stomping around that was almost as big as the prison itself. It greatly resembled a spider, which was a quite ironic look for it.
"The Spider-Slayer…" Goblin mumbled to himself.
Hobgoblin's voice came through the speaker again as he said "Behold! The Spider-Slayer! The ultimate in Spider and symbiote elimination! This city shall see me as a hero!"
Scarlet Spider turned to Peter and he said "That doesn't look very friendly."
"Well I don't expect something named the Spider-Slayer to be very friendly." Peter responded with a grin.
Carnage pointed at it and said "SEE! SEE! THIS IS WHAT I MEANT! THE MASSES WILL GO ABOUT ANYTHING THAT MAKES THEM FEEL PROTECTED! ANOTHER CORPORATE BASTARD TAKING ADVANTAGE! THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT!"
Anti-Venom slapped Carnage and said "Look. I can kick your ass later, for now…we need to fight this damn thing."
Carnage nodded and said "Fine…fine…pops."
Anti-Venom frowned. "Don't call me pops."
The Spider-Slayer took another step and the entire island shook. "Don't mind me!" Kingsley screamed through the speakers "I'm going through my heroic duty! Everybody will believe that I'm the one who saved this day! My face will be everywhere! Imagine it! Hobgoblin buses! Hobgoblin t-shirts! Everything will be Hobgoblin! I'll have full control over them and they won't know any better! I'll make you guys look like the bad guys! I'll tax everything and I'll make them remember that they should be glad that I don't take it all! So says…Mayor Kingsley!"
The Green Goblin said "Oh deary me…how I hate impersonators…"
Spidey began climbing up the mech and the other Spiders followed. "You're a real piece of work, Kingsley. But I think you're slowly losing it!" Spidey said as he avoided gunfire shooting from turrets that were on the legs.
"Wrong!" Hobgoblin once again yelled from the mech. "I'm not losing anything! In fact! You could say I'm winning!"
The Green Goblin looked at Spider-Man and chose to dive at him instead of helping destroy the Spider-Slayer. But before he could, another Green Goblin flew at him.
"I won't let you destroy my friend!" the incoming Goblin screamed.
The first Goblin looked up at the second and decided to attack him instead. "You're wasting your time, Harry! Kill him! Make your father proud! I know it would!"
Harry(?) replied "You wouldn't know what would make my dad proud! He'd never be proud of me! Now I realize that, now that it's too late!"
The two Goblins took their fight to the sky and Spidey continued up the leg until he reached the top. He met with the other three Spiders and they all decided to try and locate Kingsley within the thing.
Back on ground level Anti-Venom and Carnage were stabbing and slashing into the legs.
"You're doing well!" Anti-Venom encouraged Carnage.
Carnage actually gave a slight smile. "Surprisingly it feels kind of…good to do good. I was never quite aware of this…"
Anti-Venom then asked "Well have you ever done good before?"
Carnage's hand turned into an axe "Well not what most people consider good, man." He replied as he jammed the axe hand into one of the mech's legs.
"Well maybe you should try to do it more!" Anti-Venom said as his now shifted into a blade hand sliced through a leg.
"Maybe I should…" Carnage mumbled to himself as he made a clean cut through another leg.
Back inside the mech, the damages done by both Anti-Venom and Carnage could be felt as the insides began to shake around slightly and it began to sway around.
The four Spiders easily crushed all of the mini-slayers within until they found the main control room.
Hobgoblin turned to all of them and he was shaking. "You…you made it? BUT HOW?!"
Spider-Woman replied "Because we…uhhhh…guys help me out here."
Spider-Man sighed and said "Because we won't stand for your injustice!"
Scarlet Spider added "Because we refuse to be stepped on by you!"
Silk finally added "Because we aren't afraid of you!"
"That about sums it up" Spider-Woman said.
Hobgoblin screamed and said "I'll make a heroic sacrifice if I have to!" He then pressed a large button that said "self-destruct."
Silk was the first to panic. "NO! NO NO NO NO NO!" she yelled as she stepped back into a wall.
Scarlet Spider ran over to comfort her. "Cindy. Stay with me, here. We can make this."
Peter stood by Ben and said "My brother's right. We're gonna be fine."
Ben turned to Peter and cocked his head. "Brother?"
"I'll explain later." Peter claimed as he web yanked Hobgoblin. "Okay, let's get out of here!
They all ran out of the Spider-Slayer and that's when Carnage and Anti-Venom looked up. "There's our signal!" Anti-Venom yelled.
Both of them hacked all of the legs in half and that's when the Slayer tipped over. Spidey and the gang leapt off just in time and landed on the ground next to the two. The Spider-Slayer instead found itself falling into the waters that surrounded the island as it exploded.
Carnage then walked up to Spider-Man and stabbed Hobgoblin right in the heart. Spidey dropped the corpse in horror, but Carnage gave a rather…happy smile. "TAKE THAT EVIL DOER!" he proclaimed joyfully.
Anti-Venom shrugged and said "It's…a start."
The mask fell off the corpse and…it wasn't Kingsley. Ben looked at the corpse as everyone else looked at Carnage in shock. "Guys…this isn't Kingsley." He said to the rest of them.
They all walked over to the body and the face was that of a black haired man. They searched his pockets and found an I.D. card.
Silk inspected the card closely and asked "Uhhhm…does anyone know a Jason Phillip Macendale?"
Everybody shook their heads. Carnage just kicked the corpse. "Ahhh phooey, man! It wasn't the right guy!"
Spidey gave Carnage a…pat on the back and said "Uhhh…we'll get him next time, champ?"
Elsewhere, on a tropical island Roderick Kingsley reclined back in his chair while sipping a margarita from a coconut. "Sending that phony in my place…and then taking all the profits for myself. I still must wonder if the Hobgoblin will return…eh who cares, right now it's time for my margarita."
Back on the island, Carnage smiled and said "Here, man. Let me do y'all a favor."
New York citizens everywhere began to feel free of the symbiotic creatures that merged with them. Except Patrick Mulligan, who had still been left with a full symbiote covering him, he still considered himself a freak…but at least he was still slightly normal
Spider-Woman then asked "Uhhh…are you feeling alright? You aren't acting yourself…and I'm glad for that, but…"
Carnage said reassuringly "Well I still feel like killin' people, but that urge has been suppressed, man. When I helped y'all destroy that giant spider thing-y…it felt like…a big ol' burden was lifted from my shoulders! Slap the cuffs on me, I'm goin' to jail n' therapy, man! Maybe when I get out I can try n' do some good!"
They all looked at him oddly, but they accepted it.
One of the Green Goblins flew down from the sky, and all of the Spiders were ready to attack, but then he said "I come in peace." The mask came off and it was indeed Harry.
"Oh Harry thank god you're sane again." Peter said with relief.
Harry scratched the back of his head. "Sorry about what I did…and what I said, Pete. Sitting alone in Ravencroft gave me time to think. About everything…and I realize you did what you had to."
Everybody then sat by the cliff side of the island. Wondering what would happen next. What could happen next? Something far worse than any of them could imagine, that's what.
For beginning a press conference at that very moment was…Norman Osborn, who got Oscorp back in his grubby hands after Kingsley was reported dead. He introduced himself with this speech "I for one am glad that I have Oscorp back in the palms of my hands. Roderick Kingsley's lucrative ventures may have helped ruin our fair city…if we all look at what his so called 'Spider-Slayer' has done! It was made to cause destruction and pain. Not to protect. I know that many rumors say that I was the Green Goblin, but as we saw when Kingsley 'stopped' the Goblin…it was actually my poor, poor son Harry. I gave him my love. I gave him everything…but he still goes crazy like this. Then he has the audacity of claiming I was dead, and telling his best friend Peter Parker to report it to the Bugle so he can cover up his little venture cleanly, but I say no. I say no to what my son did, and no to what Kingsley did. And I especially say no to Spider-Man! Why? Because he hides behind a mask, just as the Green Goblin did. What's to stop him from turning on us like he did? Nothing! Except for me, so be at ease, New York…Norman Osborn is watching you…and protecting you. Goodnight Manhattan, I'll make sure you're always safe!"
The crow clapped. The believed him. They actually believed him! But Spidey wouldn't have to worry about this. Not yet…for now was a time for rest for our amazing wall-crawling, web-slinging hero, who sat with his best friends...and Anti-Venom and Carnage taking a well-deserved break, watching the sunset over the once dark and cloudy red, but now very clear blue skies…
