Danielle stood in the spare cabin, she just stood there for a few seconds letting her eyes take in her surroundings. Images of Charlie flashed by as if he was a ghost, she knew he weren't dead but they were ghosts to each other- strangers who once knew each other and had a small part of life and a promise which tied them together. A young boy had an impact on her, more than she realised, more than everybody realised, she gave up on loving people as it got her hurt and they just leave but he changed her mind. She was lonely and hurt, they were on the same level on the basics of being alone and hurt, again she felt human and powerful something which she hadn't felt for a very long time. Yet they were gone from each other's life's the information that the boy was still alive and ok made her keep going, though she missed him terribly, she was glad he made it back to England and she hoped they see each other again.

Hearing a knock, she turned and opened the door to see her young friend Lizze. Seeing her made everything blow away, she could concentrate on someone than herself. She let her in and sat her at the table. She poured rum into two glasses and put one in front of Lizzie. She slowly sat down in shock as she watched Lizzie down her drink but laughed as she quickly regretted that decision and pulled a weird face.

"I see living with pirates for some time you forget your manners." Danielle stated softly. "And the taste of a proper drink."

"How do you drink such foul thing?" Lizzie asked.

Danielle shrugged. "I guess you'll get used to it, like being away from home..." She stopped as she said the word, she stared at her young friend and saw concern in her brown eyes. "I'm sorry...I shouldn't..."

"Its fine Danni, it's a tough subject but we cannot drown at these dangerous times." Lizzie said softly. "I've always dreamed of leaving home and live on the waters but I underestimated how really tough it is, to live in the same space for weeks and see nothing but sky and water, don't get me started on living with so many men!"

"I guess you and Will won't be planning to have many kids then?" Danielle said jokily but stop laughing seeing Lizzie not even smile but advert her gaze. "Liz...what's wrong? Has Will done something?"

"No...no..."Lizzie said before stopping to take a breath. "It's me. Well it's of us both. Massive, uncertain events had a toll on us, making us keep things away from each other, making ourselves hurt and let our anger out to each other with no reason. I shouldn't tell you but I'm worried about Will. He's made a promise to his father that he will make him a freeman and I dread that means he has to kill Jones but that means he will have to be captain...ten years at sea and only one day on land, surely that will drive anyone crazy?"

Danielle just nodded not portraying any feelings, she was confused on the matter that her own cousin was preparing to risk his life and lose it to free his own father, all a brave thing to do but to lose his love, was it brave or stupid? Danielle thought for a few seconds if she could do that but her situation was different and she was living with her mistakes and the path she chose, she thought of the ifs and what might have happened if she did something different, that she didn't want anyone to live through, that consent reminder that they could have done something different and be someone else. Yet she knew it was the way of life, hard and unfair.

"Except that sounds more heroic than what've done." Lizzie said after a few moments of silence. "Love, I thought it be more simple, saying that seems crazy to think but it's what books make the real world to be like. You've taught me that Danni, you taught me that nothing is easy and the books I read were noscene. However is it wrong to hide the truth if good comes out at the end?"

Danielle licked her dry lips unsure what to say. She had been asking that question nearly all her life yet she hadn't found the answer. Questions had always filled her yet she could never found the answer or she didn't believe the truth. Years she had to live a lie to protect herself but look where it had got her. Years she was being lied too and she believed the lie, but when the truth finally came she wished the lie was true instead, yet uncertain events happened it made her change and face what kind of truth there was still left to be figured out. She wished love was simple, no heartache, no lying and no feeling of guilt but where would life be if people just felt feelings of good?

"Depending on the situation, I guess." Danielle stated. She looked up to stare back at her young friend and saw she was looking to her hands which wrapped around the glass, her knuckles turned pure white. This told Danielle that there was something more to what Lizzie said, she had been in a similar position. The position of not telling people the whole truth because she was scared to hurt and be burden to those she truly loved. Danielle slowly reached her hand across the table and placed it on top of Lizzie's making her look up. She gave her a soft smile. "Please Lizzie, tell me what's wrong."

"It seems daft. This whole thing seems daft. One second we are fighting, then the next we are meant to be dead, but now we are dead people walking the earth...well were. Now we are in the locker, another place where people are scared to venture as you have to be dead first...sorry I'm not making any sense." Lizzie brought back her hands and dared herself to stare back at her friend. "I'm glad you're here Danni, but nothing makes sense. Yet in these times you cannot question things as we are busy to battle. I guess I should tell you because you hear it sooner or later and I'd like it you hear it from me. That day of the Kracken attacking us...everything was manic! You were gone, many of the crew were dead, and the Pearl just stood taking everything the beast had got. At the end, we decided to abandon ship and head to land. However Jack didn't come with us...I persuaded him to stay..."

Danielle stared at Lizzie confused. She knew Jack more than anyone else. She knew he wouldn't let anyone persuade him different defiantly a high blood. He'd always thought of himself, it was him against the world and nothing could take his freedom. He had always fought for his freedom by any needs. He didn't portray his feelings that much either but when she was younger she remembered he locked himself in his cabin most nights, all was quiet, she guessed he was drinking his sorrow away but to think of it she guessed he was alone to express himself with his rum to try to forget all what happened, something she tried to do many times yet none of it worked.

"Don't lie to me Lizzie. I know Jack wouldn't let you get between his freedom."

"Ok, ok...I kissed him and chained him to the mast..."

"You did what?" Danielle asked angrily. She stared unsure what to do. "You forced yourself upon a weak man and chained him to his death?"

"When you say it like that, it makes it sound I did something awful..."

"Because it was! How else would you put it?"

"I was saving everyone else, I knew the Kracken was after Jack and not the rest. If we could get away then we be free..."

"And Jack be dead." Danielle stated cutting Lizzie off. "Have I taught you anything? He's a good man Lizzie! Yes he may be weak, crazy and loves his rum but he's a good friend of mine. We've...We've been through a lot him and me." Danielle stopped hearing her voice crack, she looked around and saw she was standing up. She quickly sat down and let out a shaky breath. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shout. These weeks have been...putting pressure on all of us. I just want this war to be over and kill him. Why can't life be like how books portray them to be like? Maybe things be much easier."

"Because they cover up the truth Danni, the magic of love, makes us think what world we are living in, makes us look at the world in a different light...remember saying that to me?"

Danielle smiled and nodded. "I guess that's true. Books are another way to escape, and makes us think."

Silence filled the cabin, what used to be shared by three people now by two. Silence bounced around the room, making everything else hard to hear over how loud it was. In a small amount of time, it was strange how many things had changed, it felt like a strong tornado came charging in, taking all the happiness and simple things away with and leave great masses of black clouds in its wake. To make people go against each other, to lie to get what they want, to fight to try to win their freedom, making people pick sides and outcasts. The great deal of war, friends, family or even allies become foes. No trust among the living- all betray to gain power or freedom. Death was the only victor. He was always about, watching the battle from all angles, waiting to pick a fallen human and drink its soul to make him feel full, however he will never feel full as he's always drinking dead human's powerless souls. Even after war, the victors they are left with scares of the war and injuries, pretending to be ok- a mistake each human makes as it boils up inside instead.

Hearing a chair being scraped back, Danielle looked up and saw Lizzie stand up and walk away. "I'm sorry Liz. I didn't mean to judge your actions at the end who has the right to judge?" Danielle stated, she stared at her hands as Lizzie's was on top of hers.

"Its fine old friend, I regret doing it but thank you for understanding a part of why I had to do it."

Danielle was about to grab her hand to add something else but Lizzie was too quick and left her by herself. Something which she was used to. She stood up and drank the rest of the rum. The rich taste raced down her dry throat and it felt like fire was starting. Fire. A powerful source of light, giving heat but it can also use in a bad away. Can power used for good? Danielle had thought so but years not having it she even doubted her own actions she had afflicted while being the force.

Staring at the empty glass in her hand, her mind was in a whirlwind of ideas, of feelings and what ifs. Years ago she knew where she stood and what she stood for but now…now was a different story. Who could she really trust? Years of knowing someone hadn't had the great ability, close friends felt like strangers, their actions spoke louder than their words, doubt they all had in common and unsure who they could trust. It seemed it was every man (or woman) for itself. There were too many clashes on the same side, except none showed it to the enemy. Men doubting their orders, plans not being as successful as they planned, the strongest being the weakest and the weakest being the strongest.

Standing up, Danielle grabbed the glasses and the bottle and walked to the side, to place them on the desk. Letting out a sigh, she stared at her right wrist, her long sleeve covering up the mark which was burned onto her, making her think of the man who did it to her. He promised her power once again, something which she had longed for ever since she stripped from it. She shook her head remembering it was him who took advantage of her and made sure her power was lost. She wouldn't have Heartfield or Ragetti. No life without Charlie, a boy who taught her about another side of life and she could be whole again, if she believed. However it was the secret keeping her away from achieving it all. She was scared to hurt Ragetti and break his heart. There was only six people she didn't want to get hurt.

Brushing her fingers through her hair, she looked up and stared at the wall before her. If a mirror was there, she wouldn't be brave enough to face herself. A secret she kept hidden. Feelings she once locked up but Ragetti brought them out, she was scared if he found out and what he'll do, she wanted to explain but how? Of course it meant nothing but would he think of it like that? He ran away once before, she knew he said he wouldn't do it again yet she wouldn't blame him. If she could, she would have ran away. Fighting she grew accustomed to, she had to fight through live to get the job in the force, beat people and ignore hurtful words, however she taught herself to fight her feelings and push people who she loved away.

On the subject of pushing people away, at the corner of her left eye she saw a familiar object lying innocently on the counter. Slowly turning around and lifting the object, she saw it was the book she gave to Charlie, it seemed he left it behind, like he left the pirate world behind and herself. Running her fingers over the cover, she saw the image of Charlie in her mind, he never left her, she always hoped he was safe and keeping his chin up; she wanted the best for him, she never got the chance, she had to fight and lie, but it was different for the boy. Tears rolled down her cheeks, her feelings overpowering her giving her no room for anything else.

"Danni?" She heard a voice call.

She looked up to see Ragetti standing only a few paces away. She smiled but she knew she could look past her. She gave in and let his arms wrap around her, the warmth she was thankful for but she felt she didn't deserve it, she didn't deserve Ragetti or the love. She deserved the cold, the hurt and the loneliness.

"I just miss him." Danni stated sadly. "I've missed you a lot."

"I swore I wouldn't lose you." Ragetti whispered before planting a kiss on her head and taking the book gently out of her hands, leading him to hold her close. "And I'm not going to lose you again, no matter what comes our way, what or whoever tries to drive us part, I'm prepared to fight because I love you Danni. I know we haven't had the best relationship, but we make each other complete. You think you don't deserve any of this or my love but I think differently."

Danielle couldn't help burry her head in Ragetti's shirt, to hide her tears away from him. She felt his hold tightened, showing his words were true and he was scared to let her go. The thoughts of the ifs and buts ran through both of their minds. She is really alive or is she dead? She felt no different from before: heartache, anger and fear filled her, seeing the others created joy but confusion had a grip on them all. One thing that captured Danielle was, how did she get to the locker? Maybe it was all a dream, maybe a punishment or maybe an illusion from the hit on the head? Whatever it was, she was glad she was away from him. She could breathe her own air without being judged. Yet the time was growing short. The truth was going to come out soon, but she wanted to tell Ragetti and say it didn't mean anything. The thing that stopped her was the thing that kept on nagging her inside her brain, was Theo right? Would Ragetti understand? Doubt filled her, fearing for the worse. Fear of the ifs and might's. Fear for those she cared for. The going cycle until he or herself died. Was she no good? Was she a whore? Was everyone better without her? She didn't know. But she did know if Lucy saw what had happened, she would enjoy every minute of Danielle heartache, having power over her.

Thinking of Lucy, Danielle let out a sigh and wrapped her arms around Ragetti, letting the silence take over. She knew he had questions but she weren't ready to answer them; not yet.

Ragetti stood at the rail, letting the quietness fill him. He had enough of the locker, it was truly worse than hell. Jones was a twisted creature, hated the world and made lives of those who were in his service hell and those who crossed paths with him. Yet he couldn't escape Beckett either, the man who had to control everything and everyone. Maybe he had control issues but he was still a pain and a bully, things which didn't do well in the world or with Ragetti.

"How is she doing?" Ragetti heard Jack ask.

"Confused and fragile as ever." Ragetti replied. "She has shut herself up and I'm afraid there is something she isn't telling me."

Ragetti watched as Jack walked the short distance to the rail and stood next to him, staring out to the sea. Nothing stirred, the waters were peaceful and whatever creature there was below, they couldn't hear it. Silence made a lot of people mad and being in the same place, putting the two together made the situation ten times worse. If anyone threatened to send them to hell, they would probably just laugh knowing hell was better than the locker.

"I'm afraid you have to let time do its work sometimes. It took ages for the two of you to fall in and confess your love. It took centuries for a war against the pirate world to start and they say the world wasn't made in seven days." Jack said, he glanced to Ragetti and saw he was leaning against the rail, his face telling him he wanted to fight but his eyes told him he was worried. "You are torn in two. You want to fight for the both of you, to protect Danni and be there for her, something we all wish we could do and repay back our mistakes we done. Yet you are worried, the thing she hasn't told you is the consent reminder she is Danielle Turner, a fighter, was once a hero and doesn't trust all that well, but also you don't want to lose her if you push her for the truth."

"What shall I do?"

"You have an idea what she might be hiding away from you?"

Ragetti lowered his eyes and stared at his hands. He had his guesses and who was involved but what if he was wrong? He didn't want to lose her, but keeping secrets was driving her away, the same old people brought her to the life she tried to forget; their hurtful actions made her fall down.

"Aye and you probably know too."

"He means to hurt you Ragetti, that is what he drives on and hungers for. Danni is beautiful and I've been protective of her these past years and I still will protect her, I've seen his actions and what they do to people." Jack explained. "He wants to control and destroy, I'm afraid he saw Danni as an opportunity to get to us all and now she has suffered for it."

Ragetti looked up to Jack but couldn't find any words to say. He needed to be strong for Danielle as well but how could he if that man was still alive and running their lives? Hearing Jack walk away, Ragetti drew out a knife and examined it for a few seconds letting his anger overpower him. He had always hated that man and now he crossed the line many times! In a murder case, he remembered people needed a motive, an opportunity and a weapon, he has all three and nothing could stop him. Time was a precious thing, they all had to use it carefully and trust only a few. Power had no match when against love, Ragetti believed he would do anything in power to save Danielle and would even die for her, if that was his future.
