By the afternoon, the sun was high in the clear blue sky, its rays making the world below surrender to its power, as if it could never be destroyed, well there was no clouds in their sight, so the sun was winning the battle so far.
On the Black Pearl, some of the crew were spread out across the top deck, some were sprawled, or sitting, but they were all sweating, irritated and their tempers were growing quite short, never before they felt like this. The locker was a stretched prison, which held no life, but theirs.
"Why is all, but the rum gone?" Pintel asked breaking the silence, his throat dry.
"Rum's gone too." Gibbs voiced all their fear, as he lowered his flask.
"If we cannot escape these doldrums by nightfall, I fear we will sail trackless seas, doomed to the reach between worlds…forever." Tia stated, standing near Danni, who sat on the rail, one leg dangled above the water, the other up on the rail, where she leaned her right upon.
"You're a ray of sunshine, aren't you?" Danni asked without a note of humour, but of dryness.
"With no water, forever seems to arriving a mite too soon." Gibbs stated his thoughts, bringing the conversation back to the main problem.
"And soon we will be choosing who to eat, I think we should eat the monkey first." Danni added, after Will asked why Barbossa haven't done anything. On cue, Jack the monkey ran across the deck, while Ragetti chased after him to get his eye back. Danni turned her head back to stare at the out stretched water, while the others discussed about how to free themselves from the depth of the locker.
The previous night, Danni locked herself up. It seemed sleep was far away, with her freedom, but it seemed her body couldn't function that long because it was exhausted from the crying. By morning, all was forgotten about for a few precious seconds. Lying on the bed, Danni let her eyes stare beside her, where Ragetti normally slept, where he normally laid a wake, to watch her sleep and see her at peace, where he could hold her close and felt each other's warmth. It was where they could have precious minutes together before being swallowed up by the outside world's events. Lying there, she wanted to cry over her lost, but blinked the tears away, telling herself to get her act together, she was ready to fight for what she wanted and what she wanted, she pushed away. She hoped with time, she could figure things through and mend the threads in her relationship with Ragetti, she was willing to do anything to have him back.
Also in the morning, Danni had a surprising visit from Elizabeth. As she opened the door, Danni could see the embarrassment in Elizabeth's eyes, although passed that, Danni could see the sadness and anger about her father's death, also the tear lines which marked her cheeks, she weren't the only one cried herself to sleep. As soon as Elizabeth, sat on the chair in the cabin, she came out with her apology of slapping her- which she didn't mean it, but she was upset and angry with the whole situation and the man behind it all. It was clear to Danni, they all individually hated the same man, and he caused them all pain in some kind of way, left his mark upon them. Yet they all questioned why Jack wasn't up to fighting him? He saw more of his mark, his hatred, his greed and his power every day, he may be stronger than them all, but it does not mean they can run away.
Hearing footsteps, Danni turned her head and jumped a little, as she saw Jack standing at the rail where her feet were, he was staring out to the ocean and looked panicked!
"What's that?" He asked out loud, as Danni looked over, confusion was expressed across her face as she nothing. She opened her mouth to speak, but Jack added: "I don't know, what IS that? What do you think?
"Where?" Elizabeth asked, as she and some of the others looked over the rail, to see what Jack was seeing.
"There." He pointed out, but again none of them saw anything.
What is it?"
Before Jack could answer, he ran across the deck to the other side, making everyone follow him, as everyone made it to the other side, Jack ran back over to the left side, they carried on for a few more times, before Pintel recognised what the captain was doing.
"He's rockin' the ship!"
"We're rockin' the ship!" Gibbs echoed.
Quickly the Pearl was loosed from her cannons and its cargo, as the crew raced across the deck, rocking her, trying to make her go under, in their desperation to breath fresh air, feel the wind on their skin, to smell the sea air once again! As the Pearl went over to her side, the crew quickly ran over to the over side and held tightly onto the rail, not wanting to fall in and lose their war of living. As the Pearl overturned, it looked like they were sailing upside down! Danni could feel her grip loosen, and tried to push herself up, but her arms ached and her hands let go of the rail. Fright shone in her eyes as she floated away from the safety of the rail and the crew, she tried to swim back to them, but it was hopeless, her body was tired and ached! However feeling a strong arm around her waist, she turned her head and saw Will, she clung on to him, as he used his other arm to swim them both back to the rail.
As their hands touched the wood of the rail, the ship seemed to move quickly towards the surface, making Danni close her eyes, fear of being sick! The Pearl zoomed out of the water and landed upon it, letting the crew know they could let go of the rails as they were now safe. The crew laid on the deck for a few seconds getting their breaths back and realization they were away from the locker and back into the living, as they felt the sea air upon their wet skin.
"Blessed sweet westerlies, we're back" Gibbs exclaimed in shock and amazement.
"It's the sunrise." Elizabeth stated, while staring out at the sunrise.
Danni quickly opened her eyes, hearing their words and saw them to be true, she felt Will's arm move away from her waist and he helped her up, holding her up until she said she was ok. However quickly, Jack, Will, Elizabeth and Barbossa aimed their guns on each other, as well as Jack the monkey aiming a gun at Cotton's parrot.
A few seconds passed with tension, however it was broken as the four of them laughed as if it was one big joke and lowered their guns. Danni slowly walked towards the circle as they raised their guns, her pistol was still on her belt, she would only use it if necessary.
"All right, then. The Brethren Court's a-gatherin' at Shipwreck Cove." He stated, staring at Jack, to let him know he was talking to him. "And Jack, you and I are a-goin', and there'll be no arguin' that point."
"I is arguin' the point. If there's a pirates a-gatherin' I'm pointing my ship the other way." Jack stated, while he moved to point both of this guns at Barbossa.
"The pirates are gathering to fight Beckett, and you're a pirate." Elizabeth stated.
"Fight, or not, you're not running, Jack." Will added.
"If we don't stand together, they'll hunt us down one, by one, till there be none left, but you." Barbossa said, which made Danni see the situation in a different light, he had a point.
"I quite like the sound of that. Captain Jack Sparrow, the last pirate." Jack said, with a smile, making Danni glare.
"Can we just put the guns down, and talk about this, like civil men and women?" Danni asked, however none of them looked at her, instead carried on like she didn't say anything at all.
"Aye, and you'll be fightin' Jones alone. And how does that figure into your plan?" Barbossa asked Jack.
Pushing Will and Elizabeth to the side, Danni bravely walked into the middle of the circle, while saying: "Our enemies are coming for us; we cannot run and hide forever. Unfortunately war is the answer, but let's not start one within, we need allies more than ever!" She froze, as she saw their guns turned on her. However Will and Elizabeth moved their and aimed at the other two, who aimed theirs towards her.
"I'm still working on it. But I'll not be going back to the locker, mate, count on that." Jack stated.
Danni felt someone wrap their hand around her arm and pulled her out of the middle of the circle, before they all pulled the trigger on their guns, however none made no impact as they had wet powder.
They all moved away from each other, angry with Jack, they thought they could change his mind…or at least make him go into battle, it was the only way…right? There couldn't be any other way, not as effective as war, they need to put a permanent stop to their enemies, and war is what they're calling for.
Danni stood at the rail, staring out to the horizon, her eyes were closed, her fingers around her locket. Letting out a deep sigh, she felt the sea air against her face, something she missed, but she could hear her heart call for Ragetti. Opening her eyes, she turned her head to the right and saw him standing with Pintel, the true partnership- girls come and go, the treasure they sell, the rum they drink, but its them who was left at the end of it all, Danni knew she could never get in-between them…maybe she'll join them? When the time was right, but she was completely different to them that was why Ragetti fell in love with her right? He loved her the way she was. She was clever, strong, independent, well that's what she showed the world, but within was a different story. She wanted the love that other people felt, she wanted people to look after her, to worry about her and see her as human, not as a freak, or a hero. Maybe she was a hero, but that was the past that was when things were simpler, well that was what she thought, but looking back, she never saw anything as simple. Growing up, Danni learned about the world, its way and it's secretes, she tried to cheat its game, but it seemed it all caught up on her, leaving it marks upon her.
"Love is worth fighting for." She heard someone state, making her turn her gaze to left and stared at Tia. "The heart is a special thing, keeping us alive. Beating when we fear, we are excited and we are sad, it tells us about life without uttering a word."
Danni was about to open her mouth, but hearing movement, her attention was caught by Will, as he was gathered around pirates, their worlds have truly been changed. She quickly joined them, not wanting to miss anything, she had been part of a world, which they couldn't accept her for many years, and it was time to re-join the one she was born in.
"There's a freshwater spring on this island." Will stated, while pointing to the map with his finger. "We can resupply there, and get back to shooting each other later." Making everyone look at each other, with annoyance.
"You can lead the shore party, and I'll stay with my ship." Jack ordered Barbossa.
"I'll not be leaving my ship in your command." He said in return.
"Not this again." Danni utter under her breath.
"Why don't you both go ashore and leave the ship in my command." William bravely stated, however sensing the tension of the two captain, he quickly added: "Temporarily."
The two captains nodded, but rushed up to helm, leaving Will and Danni alone. Danni shook her head as she saw Jack emerge with a long spy glass, which he cannot even hold it straight. "What an idiot." She stated, before feeling Will's hand upon her arm, making her look up at him, and saw worry. "What?"
"I heard about you and Ragetti, I'm sorry." He softly said.
Danni gave him a ghost smile, before saying: "It's ok, it wasn't his fault, but my own, so don't give him a hard time. OK? I've just pushed everyone away, I knew what I was doing, but I couldn't help it, I know it sounds crazy…I just don't know how to explain it. It's when you dream of yourself being chased, or falling, you want it to end, but you just can't wake up, and it seems like you are going to die, everything seems to be real, however you can't see the thing that is chasing you, but you run anyways. I just pushed those who wanted to help away, as I thought I be better on my own, and people be better without me, I weren't being ungrateful, I just thought it was the best thing to do, however I now see what my actions have led me, it has begun closer to home than I thought."
Confusion was visible across her face, as she found herself in Will's embrace, it seemed she was crying, however she brushed the tears away and hugged Will back, she felt a few eyes upon her, but she didn't see whose, as Will let go of her and held her chin, to make her look in his eyes. "Everything will be ok, Danni, I make sure it will." He simply said.
Danni was about to open her mouth again, but hearing Jack ordering those to company him and Barbossa to the island, made her look at him. "Danni, you're coming with us, I need someone with a brain and someone to talk to."
"She can't come, we have enough men with us, and she may go against us." Barbossa stated, as he now stood next to Jack.
"I agree with Barbossa, at the point she cannot go with you, she is safer here, with me." Will stated.
Danni glanced at them all with annoyance. "Excuse me, I have a voice of my own and a mind, so can you all stop telling me what I can do and what I cannot do! For starters, I am on the same side as you Barbossa, I hate the man who wants our freedom, you do not know my reasons, and I will not explain them either, not even to a mutt like yourself. Secondly, why would I be safer here Will? No one is on that Island right?"
She saw doubt and worry in her cousin's eyes, but he fell quiet, unlike Barbossa, he muttered something under his breath and stormed off. Leaving Danni to follow Jack to one of the rowing boats. In the rowing boat, her eyes landed on Ragetti who sat facing her, their eyes met for a few quick seconds, but he just turned his head and grabbed his oar. Moving her gaze, Danni saw Pintel glancing between the pair, she sensed his awkwardness as he liked the both of them, even Jack stared at the pair; finally understanding the situation.
The journey was short and quiet, luckily. However the realization of the war hit home as their eyes landed on the dead Kraken, which was washed upon on the beach. They all got out of their boats and walked towards the now dead creature, well Ragetti and Pintel ran towards it and started to prod it with a stick to make sure it was dead, but Danni thought it was more of a taunt than to see it was dead, having their power over the dead corpse. Danni stood with Jack and Barbossa, Danni just stared at the creature, sort of feeling sorry for it, it once held power and was feared by many men, it was all taken away by the one thing it trusted; its master. Betrayal comes from the people you feel close to, not your enemies. The Kraken seemed weak and nothing like how it was, when it attacked them, it made Danni wonder why people aim their life's to be powerful, to make people fear them. As she continued to stare, she saw no point of it all, none of it mattered in the afterlife.
"Still thinking, of running, Jack?" Barbossa asked, breaking the silence between them, Danni slowly turned her head to the side and stared at Jack. "Think you can outrun the world? You know, the problem with being the last of anything, is by and by, there be none let at all."
"Sometimes, things come back, mate. We're living proof, you and me." Jack replied, it seemed he was trying to convince himself more than anyone else.
"Aye, but that's a gamble of long odds, ain't it? There's never a guarantee of coming back, but passing on, that's dead certain."
"Summoning the Brethren Court, then, is it?" Jack asked, Danni heard his hope die in his words, they all wished there was something else to end what was coming, to prevent all the deaths, the blood stain on their hands and the gamble on the table- one wrong move, that's it, their life was at the end; ended by men in white powder wigs and blue coats, their sword in their guts. Not a way none of them wanted to go.
"It's our only hope, lad."
"That's a sad commentary in and of itself."
"The world used to be a bigger place."
"The world's still the same. There's just less in it."
They swiftly moved away from the Kraken, in hope to find the fresh water. It didn't take them long, however they all stopped finding a dead body in the waters, Barbossa wearily walked towards the corpse, and put his finger in the water, to suck it from his finger, Quickly he spat it out saying it was poisoned! Pintel quickly rolled the body over and stated he knew him, as he saw him in Singapore.
"Captain!" They heard Marty shout, and point to the tree, which Ragetti stood at the top of, to be the look out, and he point towards the ocean.
"Oy, we've got company!" He shouted, everyone stared at the horizon and saw Sao Feng's ship set alongside the Pearl, before anyone could make action, Tai Huang's men aimed their guns on Jack.
"He's the captain." Jack quickly stated, while pointing to Barbossa, who rolled his eyes.
…
Back on the Pearl, Danni was quickly grabbed by one of Tai Huang's men harshly, but before she could fought him off, her writs were locked in chains, making her stare at them confused. Looking up, she could see the whole crew were locked in chains, Ragetti and the others were to the right, Sao Feng's men surrounded them, staring down at them with threatening eyes. Jack was in the middle, hiding behind Barbossa. Danni was held beside him.
"Sao Feng, you showing up here, 'tis truly a remarkable coincidence." Barbossa finally spoke up.
Danni watched the one called Sao Feng walk towards them, he had many deep marks upon his bald head, he had long, ill looking nails, fierce looking and some facial hair. "Jack Sparrow, you paid me great insult once."
Danni watched as Jack came out from behind Barbossa, he looked scared and nervous, making her nervous, wondering where all of it was leading them too.
"That doesn't sound like me." Jack finally stated, before he was punched in the nose by the unexpected pirate captain, making Danni wince. "Shall we just call it square, then?"
"Release them. They're not part of the bargain." Will suddenly ordered Tau Huang's men, pointing to both Elizabeth and Danni, making them stare at him confused.
"And what bargain be that?" Barbossa asked.
"What have you done, Will?" Danni asked, slowly feeling herself getting angry, as she remembered before she went to the island, he told her everything was going to be ok, he was going make sure it will.
"You heard Capt Turner, Release them." Sao Feng ordered.
"Capt Turner?" Jack asked surprised.
"Aye, the perfidious rotter led a mutiny against us." Gibbs replied, to everyone's confusion.
"What?" Danni asked, not believing her ears! "How could you, Will? After everything…after all these years, you do something like this? How stupid are you? You don't make bargains with pirates."
"I need the Pearl to free my father. That was one of the reasons I came on this voyage." Will explained. "The other was looking for you, because like Ragetti, I hoped you were still alive."
Danni stared at her cousin, she couldn't find any words to say. It seemed all her anger vanished.
"Why didn't you tell me you were planning this?" Elizabeth asked, picking up from Danni's silence.
"It was my burden to bear."
"He needs the Pearl!" Jack exclaimed. "Capt Turner needs the Pearl!" He turned to Elizabeth: "And you felt guilty." Then he turned to Barbossa: "And you and your Brethren Court! Did no one come to save me just because they missed me?" Slowly Marty, Pintel, Ragetti, Cotton and Jack the monkey raised their hands, Danni stared at Jack, as he stared at her, he knew she would have raised her hand, if her situation was different. "I'm standing over there with them."
Before Jack could make it over to the people who came onto the voyage to simply save him and bring him back, Sao Feng wrapped his arm around his shoulder, driving him towards the rail, to look out the horizon. "I'm sorry, Jack, but there's an old friend who wants to see you first."
"I'm not certain I can survive any more visits from old friends." Jack stated.
"Here's your chance to find out."
Danni followed everyone's gaze and her heart stopped with fear. The thing she hoped to never see again, sailed towards them. The Endeavour answered all their questions, of what was happening, they were all caught up in many bargains, but what did they consist of, and who would keep their word? The man who held her, tightened his grip, as Sao Feng stood before her, he stared at her, as if he was studying her. "Old friend of yours too?"
"He is no friend of mine." Danni spat, she tried to set herself free, but the man tightened his grip, making her groan.
Quickly, Sao Feng held her chin harshly, his nails dug into her skin. "There's no point of fighting, the past catches up sooner or later. You should learn who you need on your side and how to keep your time. Love is sure a harsh, twisted thing."
"Let her go!" She heard William yell.
However Sao Feng, dug deeper, seeing fear escape from Danni's locker and to be showed through her eyes, a twisted smile formed across his mouth, he enjoyed seeing her in pain.
"That be enough now, Lord Beckett, doesn't want Miss Turner to be hurt." The voice of Mercer's sliced through the tension, making his welcome onto the Pearl.
Sao Feng quickly let go and walked back to his men, enjoying his plan. Navy men were quickly on abroad, pushing their weight and standing guard. Quickly a pair of navy men grabbed Jack, and walked him to the side, which he then climbed over to climbed down to the awaited rowing boat, then it was Danni's turn, a part of her wanted to fight, but she knew it would make things worse. However walking past the small crew of the Pearl, she felt a hand grab hers, making her look and surprise took hold of her, seeing it was Ragetti's, she stared at him and he saw the worry expressed across his skinny face as well as his guilt and love. It was cut short, as one of the navy men, grabbed their arms and made them break apart, she was then pushed to the side, where Mercer still stood, and she could sense he was enjoying the torment of the situation.
"You'll feel like you've never left." He stated, before standing in front of her, to whisper: "Who be your friend, after the truth comes out?"
Danni stared at him with hate, before he stepped back to the side, to let her climb down to the rowing boat, and sat next to Jack, sitting there waiting, they held hands, as they could sense each other's nerves, anger and surprise.
