A/N: I decided I'm gonna post the second chapter as well so you guys get a sort of two-episode pilot kinda thing. I'm still trying to figure out the characters and such but hopefully you'll bare with me as I stumble my way through writing original content.

Anyways, read and tell me what you think and I'll see you guys after I'm done my exams!

Who knew that it would such a challenge walking a few blocks? She had left Saul twenty minutes ago and had only made it a block away. There were just so many people. For every step she took forward, she was jostled back two. It was a good thing she had gotten that ride from Saul, or she'd be really worried about making it on time.

She was jostled out of her thoughts when she was knocked over by a black blur. She hit the ground with a grunt and only had time to see a head of black hair with bright purple highlights and hear a quick stream of apologies before they were gone, zooming down the alley behind her.

Lucy stood up and pat herself down before realising that something was missing. Whoever had just run into her had run off with her wallet. Growling to herself, she sniffed the air in the alley, picking up a faint trail, before bolting after the thief.

She followed the scent down several alleys for a couple blocks. She was getting closer, she could smell it. Picking up her pace, she shot around the next corner…

And ran straight into a brick wall. For the second time that day she found herself on the ground, groaning in pain. She heard a deep chuckle from above her and looked up to see that the brick wall wasn't actually a wall at all.

Standing over her, offering his hand was a boy roughly her age. He looked like he was on the skinnier side in the long sleeve jacket he wore. His shaggy hair could only be described as silver, and so were his eyes. She noticed that his pupils were slanted, looking more like ovals as opposed to circles. He smiled as she accepted his offered hand, and she noticed that some of his teeth looked sharper than usual as well. He hoisted her to her feet easily and smiled once more.

"I think I've got something of yours," he said. She looked around him and saw that his hand was wrapped around the collar of a girl with a familiar head of black-and-purple hair. She was struggling against his grip when she caught sight of Lucy and smiled sheepishly. Lucy noticed cat ears on her head and saw a black and purple striped tail twitch behind the girl.

"Hehe… sorry for stealing you stuff." The girl said as she handed Lucy back her wallet. "There I gave her wallet back, now will you please let go?"

The boy chuckled again before releasing his grip on the girl. "Sorry about her. She can be handful at times, but she really is quite nice once you get to know her." He held out his hand before introducing himself. "I'm J, and that troublemaker over there is my little sister, Ava."

"Howdy!" Said Ava. She looked to be a year or two younger than Lucy, her purple eyes bright with youthful energy.

"I'm Lucy, I'm here to study at Haven to become a huntress." She grabbed his hand and shook it quickly.

"Really? So are we!" Ava exclaimed. "Maybe we'll be on a team together!"

"Aren't you a little young to enroll in Haven?" The minimum age to enroll in the combat academy was seventeen, and Ava couldn't be older than fourteen or fifteen.

"Turns out if you score high enough on the aptitude test, they'll let you in, even if you are a runt." J said teasingly.

"Hey!" Ava whined.

"I'm just messing with you, Squirt," J said before turning back to Lucy. "Well, since we're all headed to the same place, why not join us?"

"Sure." Lucy said. Following the siblings as they made their way through the winding back alleys of downtown Mistral. Less than five minutes later they found themselves in front of the airships dock.

"So, Lucy," Ava said as they boarded. "What are you?"

Lucy paused in her attempts to slide her pack under the seat and turned to the younger girl. "I'm sorry, what?"

"She means what kind of faunus are you?" J said as reclined in his seat and put his hands behind his head.

"O-oh. I'm a fox faunus." She wiggled her ears and swished her tail as if to prove her point.

"That's so cool!" Ava squeaked. "I'm a tiger, and J here is some sort of lizard."

J grunted in reply, his eyes already closed, ready to take a nap. "You should get into your seat, Ava. We're gonna be taking off soon, and I don't think our new friend needs her ear talked off all the way to Haven"

"Okay!" Ava plopped down in her seat on the left of J and started swinging her legs while humming to herself. Lucy sat on his right and took the opportunity to study the boy more closely. His big, black traveling coat went down to his legs, making him seem thinner than he probably was. He had a soft smile on his face, but it didn't seem like it was really reaching his eyes.

She closed her eyes and tried to feel his chi, just how Uncle Saru had taught her. She could feel Ava, the girl's energy radiated childlike enthusiasm. She could also feel the other students who were boarding the airship, but when she focused her attention on the seat next to her, she didn't feel anything.

It was almost like he didn't have any chi. She opened her eyes and looked at him, only to find him staring back. His silver eyes felt ancient when she looked into them, and a shiver went down her spine.

When she tried to find his chi for a second time, she was met with similar results. The only thing she got from the boy was a feeling of a predator eyeing his prey.

She was all too happy when the speakers on the airship chimed and a hologram of an older man appeared in front of all the students, giving her an excuse to tear her eyes away from those ancient, bottomless, silver pools.

The man was standing with most of his weight being supported by a large black staff. Even when hunched over the walking stick he stood a good six and a half feet tall, his features hard and mouth set in a frown. Despite the serious countenance with which he presented himself, there was a twinkle in his eyes that made him look more playful, and shaved ten years off his figure.

"Good afternoon, students." He said, his tone was light but commanded attention. "You are now all on your way to Haven academy, I would like to be the first to say, welcome! My name is Horace Stormwolf and I am the headmaster at Haven Academy. You all worked hard to get where you are, but before you begin your initiation, I would like to remind you of one thing: as soon as you pass through Haven's gates, everything you did to get here will mean nothing. Whoever you were before you got here will mean nothing. As soon as you pass through my gates, whoever you were yesterday will cease to exist. You will all be starting fresh, in a group of individuals who are your equals, and will be treated as such. Now, I don't think I need to tell you, but just in case, you will meet adversity during your time here, and if you are not prepared to give everything you have, you will die." Stormwolf paused for a moment before continuing.

"Now, if you all reach above your seats you will find the first step in the formation of your teams." Lucy followed the instructions and reached behind her head to find a small compartment. She put her hand in and suddenly felt a sharp pressure and burning sensation on the back of her hand. It lasted several seconds then stopped as suddenly as it started. She yanked her hand back and inspected it.

Printed on the back of her left hand was a semicircle that was decorated in the shape of the sun.

"On your hands is one half of an image. Your partner has the other half, once you have found each other, the images will complete themselves."

As he finished saying this, Lucy looked down at her hand to see the image glow, before revealing a full circle with the missing half being filled in with a depiction of the moon. Someone poked her shoulder, and she looked over to see J smiling at her, an identical image stamped on his hand.

"Looks like I found you, eh partner?" He whispered.

She smiled at him before turning back to the hologram of her headmaster. "Now that we've taken care of that issue, the only thing left is your initiation." The twinkle in his eye seemed to get brighter as he smiled mischievously. "I wish you the best of luck, and will see you at the Academy."

Lucy had just enough time to look around and see that the other students were just as confused as she was, before the floor disappeared beneath her and she was plummeting towards the forest below.
