"Peter, Adam's Son," said Father Christmas.

"Here, Sir," said Peter.

"These are your presents," was the answer, "and they are tools not toys. The time to use them is perhaps near at hand. Bear them well." With these words he handed to Peter a shield and a sword. The shield was the colour of silver and across it there ramped a red lion, as bright as a ripe strawberry at the moment when you pick it. The hilt of the sword was of gold and it had a sheath and a sword belt and everything it needed, and it was just the right size and weight for Peter to use. Peter was silent and solemn as he received these gifts for he felt they were a very serious kind of present. (Lion, Witch, Wardrobe Chpr 10)

Magnificence: the quality of being magnificent

The sword and shield show his Magnificence. The sword shows his Magnificence because he is the "protector" of Narnia. Whenever there is trouble in the country or with foreign nations (like Archenland or Calormene), he is the first person to ride out-either to diplomacy or to war. He is the High King for a reason, after all, and he defends his country well. He defends his siblings with the same skill as he does the country, both with his actual metal sword, and with a verbal sword-the sharp, barbed threats he stabs evil men (and sometimes evil women) with. No one with evil designs will lay a hand on his siblings...not if he can help it. He is the main protector of the family, and would rather die than see any of his siblings or country hurt.

The shield also shows his Magnificence and his "protector" qualities because a shield is primarily used for defense. It is used to block enemy swords or arrows or ice blasts or anything else that can be used against himself, his siblings, or his country. It can also be utilized to attack, as he used it in the duel against Miraz. He is rather overprotective of his country and family (and well he should be, since he's the oldest brother), and it shows through his use of the shield to defend anyone and everyone. It also serves as a reminder to him that he can accomplish anything if he trusts in Aslan to keep himself and others safe, and to lead them on in battle. With Aslan before him and his shield to defend himself and others, he can do anything.

The sword and shield show his Magnificence.

A/N #2: Welp...Peter's chapter didn't quite turn out the way I thought it was going to…..I kind of tapped out on the shield, since I took about a month-long break between starting and finishing this chapter. :) I'm only in the library a few days a week, and that's the only time I get to work on fanfiction, since my at home time is spent working on stuff for AP Lit, Pre Calc, and AP Gov (WHY ARE THEY ALL ON THE SAME DAY! GOOD GAH!) Anyways, it's nice for this story to be done, as it means I can refocus on my other multi-chapter fics (MALA especially, but also TOTP and TNG…)...and not have to worry about finishing a story at the end of this week.

Just a heads up, for any of my readers who read this chapter before April 8th, 2015-I will not be updating any stories or writing anything until next week! (starting April 8th) My birthday is on April 8th (18th BIRTHDAY! I WILL BE A LEGAL ADULT! CRAP!), and then I leave the day afterwards to go to Oregon's State Thespian Competition. I have to focus on the one-act I'm competing with, which is why I will not be writing/updating anything until at least Monday/Tuesday. I will be reading, though!
