Take me to Church
Jackson's whole body lunged off of the bed as the bright sun light crept into his dorm room, his hand flew to shield his eyes as they adjusted allowing him to scan the room and find which intruder allowed the light to invade his space.
He groaned and collapsed back onto the mattress hoping that when he opened his eyes again his mother would have left his dorm and hopefully have left a full bottle of liquor. Sadly, when Jax moved his forearm his mother was still stood at the end of his bed with the same pitying look that she had been sporting for the last 12 months.
"Enough!" It was a simple instruction teamed with a steely gaze that left no room for misunderstanding on Jax's part so it was blatant stupidity that made him roll back over and think that it would wash with his mother.
"Jackson, baby, this needs to end! It's nearly been a year. The club needs you, I need you and Abel needs you," Gemma knew the only person Jax cared about just as much as Lenny-Ray was Abel and wasn't afraid to use her grandson. She saw his back tense at the mention of his son, " She's not coming back, Sweetie" Gemma sat down on the edge of Jackson's bed and brushed his hair from his eyes like she would when he was a child. It broke Gemma's heart to see her son so broken, she was very much aware that her son had his fair share of faults, she had no delusions about the amount of blood on his hands and how many people has suffered at his say so but as a mother she still didn't feel her baby boy deserved this amount of heart break.
Jackson reached out to hold his mother's hand, he hadn't spoken about the day Lenny-Ray walked out him to anyone; not when Gemma had begged to know, not when Clay had declared it club business and not when Bobby had knocked seven ton of shit out of Jackson for making his baby girl disappear. It was still raw, he knew he had fucked up but Jax always fucked up and it was always okay. No one had ever left him . He was Jackson Teller, Prince of Charming, he was supposed to help run the club, protect Charming but he couldn't even protect the woman he loved from himself. He removed his mother's hand from where she was brushing his hair behind his ears. She was right he needed to get his shit together, enough was enough.
"Clay needs you and Bobby to go out on a run," Gemma passed Jackson his Cut after he'd pulled his jeans up over his hips, " you need to make things right with the boys, Sweetie. You've not really been present and they've been questioning your ability as VP,"
Rubbing the stubble on his chin Jackson considered his brother's, none of them had any significant others to speak of so could they really pass judgement on his dealing with losing the woman he loved. Deciding none of it really mattered considering Lenny was long gone, he needed to get back on track with the Club and more importantly his son. She had gone, it was probably best Jax knew that. It was the most hurtful truth he had ever known, Lenny Ray Sawyer was gone and it was better for her that she had. Jackson would only have driven her away, broke her heart with some trampy crow eater or worse yet they would have become like Clay and Gemma. Stuck in an external web of lies, not knowing where one lie began and the next ended, not trusting each other but wearing a fake united front like a well worn shirt that was threadbare and ready to unravel with one tug of the lies threaded through out it.
After sitting through the meeting with his brothers Jax decided he needed a drink to take the edge off, he sat at the bar whilst Bobby and Opie shot some pool causing a crowd to gather. Things seemed to have returned to the way they were pre-Lenny, apparently life had carried on whilst Jax had spent the last 12 months drinking himself into denial making it easier for him to just skip back into routine.
He slammed another tequila shot as his ears picked up on the song playing on the jukebox, she had sang it in the clubhouse. It hit Jax in that moment that he wouldn't ever get over Lenny, she was his one and only. He needed her to breath, to function, to live. He had driven her to the edge, forced her away and was the creator of his own personal hell. Another shot numbed that stark reality, he had done this and he had to find a way, he had to find her.
Locking up the front door Lenny set her bag down on the counter in the hallway, it been a long day, it had been a long week and she was glad it was over. Heading for the kitchen she grabbed a glass and poured herself a few fingers of whiskey, it was Friday after all. Sitting at the table she sipped at the liquid letting it burn her throat, she had thought things would be different if she left Charming thought she could escape Club life but apparently it was in her blood. She knew no other way of life, it was a cycle she was a prisoner too.
She had found herself miles away from Charming with no friends and very little money after doing a few gigs along the way but it wasn't enough, one night she had over heard a group of men discussing how they needed to hide some money and saw her opportunity. Bobby had taught her how to do books both the right way and the wrong way. She would help them conceal the money for a small cut and formed her self a little alliance with the local MC. They didn't ask her any questions and she didn't give any answers it was perfect.
The door opened and she set the glass down as a young blonde girl pushed a stroller into the room,
"Lena, have you noticed that car outside? It's been there for like a week! It's right in the spot I park," Kelsy was the daughter of one of the Club, barely 17 but had the attitude of a grown woman.
Lenny didn't even notice when people called her by her new name now, she decided it was necessary to change her name just incase people come sniffing around, ignoring Kelsy's whining she picked the baby out of the stroller and cradled her close kissing her forehead.
"How was my little Princess Erin today?" Lenny set the blonde babe on her knee, she was barely a year old but Erin was more important to Lenny than life itself. Kelsy answered telling Lenny that her daughter had been fine and then launched into some uninteresting story about how some boys down at her father's bar were into her but Lenny had no interest her attention was consumed by her gorgeous little girl.
Erin had been a major surprise to Lenny, she thought she had come down with a serious case of food poisoning when the sickness started it never even crossed her mind she could be pregnant. When she finally got checked out it had taken a few days for the news to sink in, Lenny was alone and pregnant. She had considered going back to Charming but then the thought of raising a baby in that environment stopped her in her tracks. She could remember seeing her mother crying at nights just sat at the table waiting to see if her dad would come home ,the memory of the night her father died was a daily nightmare for her. It was those memories that made her sure she had to protect Erin from that life, but every time she looked at her daughter she was reminded of Jax. Erin had been blessed with her father's blonde hair and blue eyes, baised as she was Lenny was convinced she had the world's most gorgeous baby. And it was her job to protect her, which was why returning to Charming was out of the question. If she went back she would be setting her daughter up to the same fate she had, to see people around you disappear, to watch your loved ones hurt you and to learn to not trust anyone.
She had carved a simple life out for them here, sure they were alone but all Lenny needed was Erin and Lenny was damn sure that Erin would need no one but her. She wanted a better life for her baby, and she was sure that was anywhere but Charming. Away from the bloodshed and heartache that hung over the Charming MC, away from the clutches of Gemma and away from the one man Lenny had ever truly loved. The man who had ripped her heart from Lenny's chest, the man who had watched her fall apart and the man who had given her the best thing to ever happen to Lenny. Jackson Teller. She hugged Erin tightly as she waved Kelsy off, she shut the door on the dark street and paid no attention to the car parked in Kelsy's usual spot.
If she did she would have noted the Charming area code on the license plate, Lenny would have felt the eyes narrow in on the babe wrapped up in her soft pink blanket, Lenny would have ran as the fingers dialled on the cell phone. If Erin hadn't began to cry then Lenny may have heard the mystery driver confirm her worst fear.
" it's true, She's here,"
