It's finally here! Moving day!
Thanks so much for the reviews, favorites, and follows!
Also, last chapter was the longest I'd written so far, but this one might beat it. :)
Anywho, enjoy Loki and Megan moving in to a real house!
On Friday morning two agents came to the apartment and brought Loki and I and our boxes to a helicopter. It was strange to leave. In the short time Loki and I had lived there I had become accustomed to the space. It was small, but it had been our home for a while. I threw the phone and the jump drive into my purse and picked up the last of my boxes as I took one last look around the place.
Fury watched from a distance as our helicopter took off from the top of the helicarrier. I looked back as the monumental airship shrunk into a speck against the sky. After it disappeared completely I turned around and settled into my seat. We were already over land so I figured the ride wouldn't be too long, but my neck was hurting from twisting around to watch the helicarrier. It was kind of unreal how such a large object could stay aloft.
Loki sat still and stared straight ahead with an expression I couldn't quite read. He looked almost nervous, yet also a little excited. There was some other emotion playing across his features, but he turned to look out the window when he noticed me watching him.
I leaned my head back and gazed out the window on my side at the clouds passing by. I knew Loki wouldn't talk in a mood like this, and the two agents co-piloting the helicopter were too well trained to converse with me while flying. For the next hour and a half I watched clouds float by. That was so much more fun when I was a kid.
When we finally started to descend I sat up and looked down at the land below us. It was covered in squares of many shades of green, some kind of farmland. We landed in the middle of a grassy field, not far from a dirt road where a U-Haul truck was parked. There were lines of trees around the sides of the field we were in and the one across the road It was pleasantly warm and a gentle breeze rustled the grass and threatened to blow my ponytail into my face.
The two agents that had flown the helicopter helped us unload our things and we started toward the truck. When we were almost to the edge of the field, two more agents got out of the truck and opened the back. I set the box I was carrying in the back of the truck and noticed that it was already full of other boxes and a few pieces of furniture.
I turned to one of the new agents and asked, "What's all this?"
"Supplies and a few last-minute addition to the house. Fury wanted it to look like you were actually finishing moving in," she replied.
"Why? I thought we were going to be pretty isolated?"
"You are, but there are a few other houses on the road yours is on. Your closest neighbors are about a mile and a half away, but they might want to drive by and investigate if they notice the activity at your house."
"Oh. Okay." Made sense. Hopefully we wouldn't have to deal with the neighbors much. I didn't imagine Loki would be particularly civil with curious strangers.
I stepped back as one of the agents pulled the door back down and latched it closed. He locked it and then turned to hand the keys to me, pointing out the house key attached to the keyring for the truck. "Fury said you have the coordinates for your destination?"
"Yes," I answered, pulling out the jump drive, "right here."
"Unless you need anything else, we'll be on our way." The female agent had moved to stand with the two that had flown Loki and I to this location.
I glanced at Loki, who was standing behind me with a slightly impatient expression. "I think we're set," I responded, "I know who to call if anything comes up."
The agents nodded. "Goodbye, Agent Coltey, Loki," one of the pilots said, the first thing he had said to me the entire trip. The four agents turned and started walking back to the helicopter.
I looked back at Loki. "You ready for this?"
"I suppose."
"Let's get this show on the road, then." Loki gave me a strange look. "Just get in the truck," I said, trying not to laugh at his obvious confusion over the slang phrase.
I jumped into the driver's seat and pulled it forward. There was a SHIELD-issued adapter on the GPS with a USB port. I grabbed the jump drive and plugged it in before turning it on. The screen lit up and played through the startup menu as I started the truck. The program on the jump drive overrode the system and box popped up with the coordinates and our estimated time of arrival: 45 minutes. Not bad at all.
I buckled myself in and checked that Loki was wearing his seatbelt as the robotic voice of the GPS started spouting directions, telling us a little too loudly to go north for three miles then turn right. I put the car in drive and started down the bumpy, dusty road.
_
About forty minutes later, the GPS finally said that our destination would soon be on our left.
"Finally," Loki grumbled, "I have had enough of these unpaved roads."
I laughed. I didn't really like the feeling of the truck bouncing over the gravel, but dirt roads always reminded me of visiting my grandparents' farm when I was a kid, so I didn't mind them too much.
We drove past a couple houses before the GPS directed us into the driveway of a large white and gray farmhouse. I parked the truck and just stared at the house for a few moments. This was really happening.
Loki cleared his throat. "Are you waiting for something?"
"What? Oh, no I was just... Let's go." I grabbed the keys and got out of the truck. The yard was beautiful. Spacious, with a few trees and a flower bed by the front porch of the house. It was as far from New York City and the helicarrier as you could get. I just looked around, taking everything in. I had dreamed of living in a house with an enormous yard to play in when I was a little girl.
"Are we going to bring our belongings into the house or are you going to stand there and stare at it for the rest of the day?" Loki's sarcastic voice snapped me back to the present and I turned around to see him leaning on the back of the truck.
"Why are you so eager to move in?"
"The helicarrier holds some... unpleasant memories for me," Loki grimaced. I had heard rumors that Loki had been on the helicarrier before the attack on New York. No one would actually confirm anything though.
"Oh. Well, I was going to unlock the house and start looking around but if you want to grab some boxes first that's fine." I took the house key off of the key ring and threw the truck keys to Loki. Looking back, that could have ended really badly. It didn't, and Loki entered the house about a minute after I did, his arms full of boxes.
The front door on the porch opened into the living room. There was a fireplace on one of the yellow walls, but the couch and armchair were angles toward the TV. Near the door were a bench and a row of hooks for coats. The stairs were directly in front of the door. To the right of the stairs was the dining room, though I doubted we'd ever have guests to actually eat with. There were only three chairs, but they matched the ones in the back of the truck. The kitchen was behind the dining room. It was painted the same yellow as the rest of the first floor, but it had blue accents. Pretty adorable, actually. There was even a breakfast book by one of the windows. After I finished looking around, I went back to the living room to walk upstairs.
Upstairs I found two bedrooms, mine was decorated in white and sky blue and Loki's was green. Each one had a bed, a desk, a dresser and closet filled with normal clothes. The bottom two drawers of my dresser held several uniforms. The house had been remodeled at some point, perhaps by SHIELD, so both bedrooms had their own bathroom.
There was another room on the second floor, but it was locked. About a foot away from the door was a painting, the only one in the hallway. I took it off the wall and found a retina-scanner access panel. That room had to hold the equipment to contact Asgard. I was pretty sure I wouldn't have access, but I tried anyway. I was right.
When I got back downstairs, Loki was almost done carrying in the contents of the truck. I grabbed a couple of my boxes and carried them up to my room. I suddenly remembered that Fury had said there would be a file with our location in the house, so I set down the boxes and ran back down the stairs.
I finally found the file in a stack of magazines on the coffee table. The first page was instructions for contacting the agent to pick up the U-Haul truck. I turned to the next page and one word jumped out at me.
Minnesota.
Just then, Loki walked in with the last of the boxes. He noticed me staring at the file and asked, "What's that?"
"Our location."
"And?"
"Well," I paused, "I hope you don't mind cold weather."
Loki's face darkened for a split second before he grabbed a few boxes and headed up the stairs. "I'm going to start unpacking," he blurted out.
Weird.
DUN DUN DUN.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter!

I don't own Marvel. Sadly. There would definitely be a Loki movie by now if I did.
