I do not own the Vampire Diaries

Mikael had watched what happened between Niklaus and Caroline, and it made him sick with rage. His monstrous son found love, and he found it with his top warrior! He thought Caroline was smarter than that, but then again, he thought she would never betray him.

He had given her several chances to come clean and to hand his children to him, but she hadn't. Instead, she went to that disgusting bar with them and went out with Niklaus every chance she got.

He had followed her after he broke the news to her that she didn't have long to live, just out of pure curiosity. What he discovered shocked him in more ways than one.

***Flashback***

She was crying. That made him sick to his stomach. Crying was a sign of weakness, it showed emotion, and it showed cowardliness. He expected more from her. He may have just given her a death sentence, but he had warned her so she could enjoy the time she had left.

She should consider herself lucky that he granted her that privilege. He should march back in there and tell her she no longer had that month to herself. He should take it away and force her to work for him during the remainder of her life. He probably would have if she hadn't suddenly stopped.

Using only his hearing, he gathered from the noise that that she was changing. Her turned out to be right as she stepped outside, freshly dressed and no trace of tears in her eyes. She didn't bother to look around, why would she? She was the oldest non-original vampire in the world, she had no one to fear.

She sped off into the night and he followed her. Wherever she was going, she was in no hurry and didn't pay attention that tonight was a full moon. Wolves howled and she stopped. Mikael made sure that she wouldn't be able to see him, but he would be able to see her.

She glanced around as several wolves started to surround her. He contemplated whether or not he should help her, seeing as one bite and she would die, but Caroline could take care if herself.

She has several times, and every time Mikael witnessed it, he always found himself fascinated and proud. It caused him great joy watching her fight, and on a couple occasions, it excited him on more than a friendly level. He was looking forward to this.

The first wolf launched itself at Caroline, and they all followed. Caroline shoved most of them away and it didn't surprise him with her age, but what did surprise him was when she got taken down.

Two wolves went flying through the air and bounced off tree while she hit one in the ribs, causing it to howl out in pain.

They played this game for too long, they would come at her, she would shove them away. What really irritated Mikael was that Caroline was playing around. Every hit was weak and she didn't go for the kill. It was one thing to mess around with your opponent, Mikael did it plenty of times, but these opponents' where different. One fatal mistake and she would be gone.

He was about to step in and interfere when one particular wolf knocked her down and another rushed over. The other three where laying somewhere healing from broken bones and all she had to do was finish these two off and she would be fine.

She had a hand on each of the wolves' muzzles keeping them at bay, when something changed in her, he could tell. She seemed to relax and she loosened her grip on one of the wolves muzzle and he managed to dig his teeth into her side.

She snapped both wolfs neck now and stood up and brushed herself off. She seemed as calm as could be while Mikael was fuming. Yes, he was planning on ending her anyways, but that was beside the point. HE wanted to be the one to end her, but that wasn't the only thing upsetting him. What also bothered him was the fact that she had given up. She hadn't fought those wolves with her all. Right from the beginning she let them win, and in the end, she had allowed them to do that to her.

He couldn't afford to be angry at the moment, because she was already on the move again. He had no choice and had to stop following her due to the fact that daylight was approaching, and he couldn't work during the day, but when sun set, he would hunt her down and find out what was going on and get to the bottom of it.

He had found her at her friends dingy apartment. That didn't surprise him, they were always close, annoyingly close. On several occasions he contemplated killing him, but didn't, knowing it would greatly upset Caroline.

He was thinking about when he would make his presence known when other's made their presence known. His children. His blood started to boil just at the sight of them, the sight of monsters.

Rebekah was fooling around with Kol, like always, and Elijah and Niklaus weren't paying attention to them. It took every ounce of restraint Mikael had to stay where he was hidden.

He was so angry. Angry that those blood thirsty, pathetic monsters where still walking around. Angry that he couldn't do anything about it at the moment because he was weaponless and couldn't take on all four. Angry that they were here at Caroline's friend's house, and that they were about to go inside.

Why where they here? Did Alex betray them and was handing over Caroline? No, that couldn't be it. Mikael saw the way he looked at Caroline; he doubted he would be able to betray her.

A thousand thoughts ran through his mind, a thousand possibilities, a thousand years' worth of anger and rage. Thinking about it would accomplish nothing, he had to find out the facts, know the details. The only way to do that was to be quit and listen.

They knocked twice, but no answer, and then they just walked right in.

"Go away," Alex said.

"Alex, we can help Caroline," Rebekah said.

What? How did they even know something was wrong with her, and more importantly, why did they care?

"The only thing that can help Caroline is a stake to her heart," Alex was saying.

"Alex, just listen," Rebekah began.

"I've been listening Rebekah. I've been listening to my sisters breathing getting worse and worse, hearing her cough up her own blood, listening to her crying out in pain. So don't tell me to listen, because I'm done," Alex said.

Mikael shook his head in disgust at how pathetic Alex sounded and how he made Caroline out to sound.

"I'm not dealing with this drama right now," Klaus snapped.

There was silence until Mikael heard his bastard son speak again.

"I suggest you let go of me mate," He said.

"Are you going to make me?" Alex challenged.

Mikael had to hand it to the boy; he wasn't as a coward that he thought he was.

"If he doesn't I will," A raspy voice said.

The voice may have been raspy and horse, but Mikael knew it belonged to Caroline, and she was defending the bastard! Maybe it wasn't Alex who was betraying him; maybe it was Caroline all along. The sound of his oldest living child drew Mikael away from his rage and focus on the conversation.

"Do I know you?" Caroline asked.

The sound of someone being slammed against a wall sounded, and Mikael assumed Caroline attacked someone. After all, it would be the only thing that would make sense if she wasn't betraying him. That had to be what happened. Mikael NEEDED that to be what happened.

"Elijah!" Rebekah shouted.

Mikael had been mistaken, Caroline would never betray him. She was attacking Elijah and would need his help.

"Release her brother," Klaus snarled.

Mikael's stomach dropped and he stumbled back in shock. This couldn't be, he refused to accept it.

"Not until I get answers," Elijah said.

"She needs air to talk. At least let her down, then she'll answer all our questions," Alex said.

"Elijah," Rebekah repeated.

"When where you turned?" Elijah asked.

"1745," Caroline said.

From the sound of her voice, she sounded compelled, which meant she was lying to his children and keeping who she was a secret, which also meant there was still hope.

"Elijah," Rebekah scolded.

"What was that for?" Caroline asked.

"I apologize, I thought you were someone else," Elijah said, and left.

Mikael watched him flash out the house, looking extremely troubled and confused. It didn't take a genius. To know what was going on. After all these years, Mikael finally knew who Caroline's sire was. He should have known. Finn was too much of a coward, Kol wouldn't have cared what happened to her, And Niklaus would have lost control the minute he smelled blood. Leaving Elijah and Rebekah. He should have known it wasn't Rebekah, she was always attached to Niklaus and Caroline would have never made it. Elijah would have been far too honorable and moral to leave someone hurt, especially a beautiful women.

Mikael realized his mind wondered and he wasn't paying attention to the conversation anymore and missed a good chunk of the conversation. He quickly refocused on the task at hand.

"Natures been kind to you," Caroline was saying.

"I don't think you realize what that means Caroline. I can heal you," Klaus said.

"I understand perfectly well Klaus," Caroline said. "Your blood can heal a werewolf bite, but that doesn't change anything."

"That changes everything," Klaus said,.

"Doesn't it?" Caroline asked.

"Just because you have the cure running through your veins doesn't mean you're just going to give it to me,"

"I plan to," Klaus aid.

"Then what would I owe you? I may be young, but I've learned a lot, and one thing is that nothing comes for free and I don't want to be in any one's debt," Caroline said. "Thank you for stopping by, but I think it's time for you to go."

Mikael saw red. So many thoughts, so many possibilities. His mind was working 1,000 miles per hour and couldn't concentrate. There were so many things wrong with what just happened where would he begin?

He needed to step back and analyze the facts, figure out his next move. He needed to get away from Caroline. He was too close to going in that apartment and demand answers, which would get him nowhere.

He forced himself to move away from the shadows and flashed away so he could figure it all out. It was obvious that Alex had betrayed him; there was no doubt in his mind about that. He was awful comfortable around vampires triple his age. The way it sounded, he had grabbed Niklaus and since Niklaus didn't do anything about it, Alex must mean something. They probably were keeping hi alive because he was passing along information. If that was the case, that would explain Caroline's involvement.

Yes, that's what it was. She was foolish enough to get into situations that she didn't belong in. Alex dragged her in this, he caused her to do this, and Mikael would make sure he paid. Caroline's wouldn't betray him, would she? She did seem awfully comfortable in their presence, and Niklaus had tried to save her. Why would his bastard son do that? He didn't care for anyone, why would he want her alive? He had no purpose for her. But then again, Caroline was a beautiful girl, maybe Niklaus was trying to take advantage of her.

Mikael wouldn't put it past him. That made Mikael even more determined to make Alex pay. He cleared his head enough, now time for business.

He went back to Alex's apartment, surprised that he couldn't hear anything. It seemed that o one was there, btu he could sense life. Sure enough, Caroline emerged. She looked considerably better, and she moved too gracefully for someone dying.

While he was gone, his son must have healed her somehow, that he was sure of. But where was she going?

He followed her only to fund out she was following someone. Alex.

"Caroline," Alex said

"Alex," She said. "Trust me when I say I will truly enjoy this."

She grabbed his wrist and pulled him forward against her. Tilting his head back, she whispered something and then grabbed his head and threw him back.

She flashed over and repeatedly punched him, over and over again. She got up and grabbed a nearby tree branch; fully prepared to stab him in the same manner she had punched him.

He suddenly stood up and punched her as hard as he could. She was still pretty weak and stumbled back, and Alex took that opportunity to grab the branch she had.

He snapped it in half and shoved one piece into her gut. She cried out and clutched at the spot it was lodged in.

"Trust me when I say I did not want to do that," Alex said.

She looked at him, the veins under her eyes appearing, her canines extending.

"Head start?" He asked.

Mikael didn't know what upset him more, the fact that "Alex beat her and she was triple his ago, or the fact that she let him go.

Since it seemed she would be following Alex, Mikael took off after him, curious to know where he was heading.

He shouldn't have been surprised when it turned out to be his children's house. Nothing would really surprise him at this point.

"What happened to you?" Rebekah asked,.

"Good news is that I managed to shove Klaus's blood down her throat, bad news is that she now wants to kill me," Alex said.

Mikael watched as Caroline zoomed from the woods and into the house without missing a beat.

"I think you have that mixed up brother. Bad news is that you managed to shove Klaus's blood down my throat, good news is now I'm going to kill you," She said.

"You look considerably better," Rebekah said.

"You can thank my soon to be dead brother," Caroline said.

"You've got your shot's in, now thank him for saving you and back off," Rebekah said.

"I've never been one to follow orders Rebekah, and I certainly have never been one to put up with people touching me," Caroline said, and that was followed by a crack.

On a different occasion, Mikael would have been proud of Caroline. She just stood up to one of his children, and obviously hurt her, but considering the fact that she was actually having a conversation with them instead of killing them, or at least telling him about them….

"Glad we understand each other," Caroline said.

"Oh you haven't even begun to understand me," Rebekah said, and a whooshing sound started.

Mikael really wished he could see, but he couldn't risk being caught.

"Leave Rebekah."

Klaus. Of course, the knight in shining armor.

"You're making me leave? This is my house!" Rebekah exclaimed.

"Go," Klaus said.

"I'll deal with her. Take your boyfriend and go," Klaus said.

By her, Mikael assumed Caroline, and boyfriend must have been Alex. This just kept getting worse and worse.

"I'll be seeing you later Alex," Caroline said, then silence.

Mikael frowned at the quietness. He couldn't know what was happening if no one was making noise. Did they discover him? More importantly, was this all a trick to get rid of him? All questions were answered by the moans he heard.

He couldn't believe it, didn't want to believe it, but had no choice, especially with the words coming out of their mouths.

"I want you," Klaus growled. "I need you."

"Weren't you taught not to take what's not yours?" Caroline muttered.

"I never listened," Klaus said.

"Good," Caroline said.

Mikael was frozen, he couldn't move. After all these years with Caroline, he never thought she would do this to him. He didn't want to hear this, her betrayal, but he couldn't pull away. He listened to every whimper that escaped their lips. He only found himself able to move when it was over. He didn't want to hear them together anymore, didn't want to know what they had to say to one another.

How long has this been going on? How long has Caroline been betraying him? All these questions and so many more needed answers, but they wouldn't get answered if he panicked. It would take time, and patience, and luckily for Mikael he had both.

**FLASHBACK ENDED**

He had waited and it paid off. He knew Rebekah and Alex were in a relationship, it was more physical, but she was protective of him. Kol and Elijah were both single, Elijah more so seeing as Kol jumped in bed with any women.

Kol happened to be friends with Caroline while Elijah was suspicious, rightfully so, and was currently digging into her past. It was a shame, because soon, none of it would matter, they would all be dead.

Caroline and Klaus, you could say they were in a relationship. After that night together, they went out every night with each other, Mikael always watching. Except for tonight.

They were going to some art museum and Mikael had other things to do, he had to prepare for tonight. He had told Alex to wait until Caroline got home to break the news to her. He had no doubt the fool would do it, he had no choice. It was smart of him to go after Alex, he was the weakest link and was easily broken. He had given up all his secrets so easily it was a joke.

Oh well, it made his job a lot easier and he could put the plan in action. It was real simply, especially since his children were creatures of habits.

After Niklaus and Caroline left, either Elijah or Rebekah left, then Kol, sometimes.

Tonight was a little different. Elijah and Rebekah left at the same time. The plan would have to change slightly. They hugged and Elijah took off. Mikael had no choice but to let him go. He would come back to him later.

He flashed behind Rebekah who quickly turned around. Her eyes widened and she opened her mouth to say something but Mikael snapped her neck and let her fall to the ground.

One child down, three to go. He grabbed her arm and dragged her in their house and followed the sound of Kol. He had his back to him and was pouring a drink.

: I would ask if you wanted a drink before you died, but you don't deserve that," Kol said.

"No my son, it is you who does not deserve the privilege of a drink before I send you to hell," Mikael said.

"What makes you so sure I'm going to hell?" Kol asked,

"All the people you have killed, the women you have used and sleep with, you're a monster," Mikael growled.

"Consider my feeling officially hurt," Kol smiled, turning around to look at his father for the first time in a long time.

"We all know you don't have feelings," Mikael said.

"Nonsense, I feel a lot of things, like right now, I

M feeling the urge to hit you," Kol said. "Before you came I was feeling the urge to sleep with some strange women, so thank you for being a cock block."

Mikael's eyes narrowed and he stepped closer to his son. "of all my children, you are the biggest disappointment," he said.

"More than Klaus? I'm hurt," Kol mocked, before charging at his father.

Mikael had no problem stepping forward and snapping his neck. "Hot headed fool," He muttered, kicking him in disgust.

That was almost too easy, but it wasn't over yet. He still had to tie tie them up and keep them pumped with vervain, keep them down.

All he had left was Niklaus and Elijah, then the real fun could begin.

I know I know, how could I? I leave you guys with that cliff hanger, don't update for at least two weeks, and then give you guys this chapter. I'm sure a lot of you just want to get to the exciting part, but any of my readers out there that write their own stories I'm sure can understand how important this chapter is. There is a method to my madness, trust me. Next chapter is going to be full of action, don't worry, and I won't make you wait as long. Review please, even if it's you yelling at me ;)
