I do not own the Vampire Diaries
Alex managed to get them to the airport where Caroline kept her helicopter. He always found it a little ridiculous that she always had a helicopter at her ready, but now he was relieved. But that feeling left him when he tried to get the Originals on it.
"No," Klaus said.
"Why would I leave my sister behind with your crazy father just to lead you into a trap?" Alex asked. "On second thought, don't answer that. I need you guys to trust me."
"You've lied to us this entire time and not to mention the fact that you work for our father," Elijah said.
"I don't work for your father, I work for Caroline and I know how this all looks, but I'm begging you, give me one more chance so I can prove it's not how it looks," Alex said, and then looked at Klaus. "Give Caroline another chance."
"I don't care is she lives or dies,
Klaus snapped.
"Come now Nik, don't insult us by lying to our faces," Rebekah said weakly, waking up in Klaus's arms. "
We will go with you," She said, starring directly at Alex.
"Rebekah," Elijah began.
"I trust him Elijah, besides, they can't harm us as long as we are together. Forever and always," She said softly.
They all exchanged looks while Alex held his breath, thanking whoever was on his side when Klaus quietly muttered alright.
The helicopter ride was tense and filled with silence and a lot of glared coming Alex's way. It wasn't quiet long because Kol woke up.
"You and Caroline aren't brother and sisters, are you?" He asked.
"We are, just not by blood," Alex said.
"How did you two meet?" Rebekah asked quietly.
"We meet in 1743 when she saved me from a bunch of vampires that were using me as there toy. She was sent to kill them and decided to spare me. She nursed me back to health and we talked for a while and in the end, she decided to turn me," Alex shrugged, meeting Rebekah's gaze. "She is my sister."
"When was Caroline turned?" Kol asked while Rebekah looked away.
"Ask her yourself. She should be here by now," Alex said as they started landing.
"I hate to break it to you, but Mikael would have killed her by now," Kol said.
"Trust me, Caroline is alive," Alex said.
"Where are we?" Elijah asked, changing the subject.
"You should recognize this place, seeing as you use to live here," Alex said.
"You've got to kidding me," Klaus muttered.
"Welcome to Mystic Falls," Alex said, stepping off the helicopter. And missing the look the siblings exchanged with each other.
"Where are we now?" Rebekah asked.
"At a friend's house, she'll let us stay here," Alex said, waiting for the door to open.
"We don't need help," Klaus said.
"You're going to want it," Alex said.
"And why is that?" Klaus asked sarcastically.
"Because she's a witch," Alex said as the door opened. The witch jerked back in surprise and stared at Alex.
"What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Aren't you going to invite me in Bonnie?" He grinned. "Oh wait, I'm already invited in."
He shoved past her and into the house. She glared at him, causing him to cry out and grab his head in pain. He grabbed her by her throat and slammed her against the doorframe.
"Here I thought we were past that Bonnie," He growled.
"Got to hell," She gasped.
"Gladly, but first, invite my friends in," he said, squeezing her throat tighter when she didn't.
"Come in," She relented.
They stepped inside and Alex stepped back. "Bonnie, meet my friends Elijah, Klaus, Kol, and Rebekah Mikaelson, the Originals. Originals, meet Bonnie Bennett."
"Bennett?" Rebekah asked.
"Yupp, and trust me, she is an even bigger bitch then her ancestors," Alex said.
"And a lot more powerful, so watch it," She said, glaring at Alex.
"You wouldn't hurt me Bonnie," Alex laughed.
"Try me," She said. "What are you doing here anyways?"
"It's a long story, and we both know Caroline's better at telling stories then I am. Speaking of Caroline, is she here yet?" Alex asked.
"No," Bonnie said.
"Then looks like you are going to have to wait until she gets here," Alex smirked.
Caroline was resting comfortably in the back of a car with good looking humans surrounding her, her fang marks scattered along their skin. She would be arriving in Mystic Falls at nightfall, which was less than two hours away. She pulled out her phone and called her favorite witch.
It was time to end her suffering. She had to deal with Alex and the Originals for hours, and Caroline felt pity.
"Hello?" Bonnie asked.
Caroline chucked, hearing how annoyed she was by just that one word. "Hello Bonnie."
"Caroline? Where are you?" She demanded.
"Why? Do you miss me?" Caroline asked.
"I'm going to kill Alex," She growled.
"What did he do now?" Caroline asked.
"Other than be his annoying self? He has yet to shut up, ate all my food, brought more vampires into my house, and gave me a bruise!"
Caroline let her ran and waited to speak until she was done. She figured Bonnie earned this. "Is he there?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah."
"Put him on the phone."
There were some shuffling noises, a loud yell, and then Alex got on.
"Caroline? Thank God! I was so worried about you. Are you okay?"
"Are you done?" Caroline asked coldly.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
Caroline could hear the confusion in his voice and it made her even angrier. "I've dealt with a lot of things over the years, and I've put up with a lot of things, but I have never put up with people who betray me, and that is exactly what you did Alex. I will be arriving in Mystic Falls in less than three hours, I suggest you to not be there, because once I see you, you are going to be a walking corpse. Understand?"
"Yes," Alex said.
"Good, now put Bonnie back on," Caroline ordered.
Bonnie came back on and waited for Caroline to say something.
"Tonight is a full moon, isn't it?" She asked.
"Yes," Bonnie said.
"Why don't you put it to good use?" Caroline suggested.
"I'll have to wait an hour or two," She said.
"Just see that it is done, along with a cloaking spell," Caroline ordered, and hung up, throwing her phone aside.
She sighed and looked around her. "Come here Sam, I'm a little thirsty," She sighed, beckoning the blonde looking God over.
Bonnie had locked herself in her bedroom when she got off the phone with Caroline. She didn't want the Originals to get suspicious and she wasn't sure she could go on acting for two hours. She had everything she needed and headed downstairs to do what Caroline asked.
Luckily all of the Originals where in the same room and she quietly started the spell. She closed her eyes to focus and her lips started to move faster and faster and the room started to hum with energy
"What are you doing witch?" Kol asked.
The Mikaelsons all stood up to watch and see what was happening. By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late. Bonnie opened her eyes to find them all glaring at her.
"Remove this spell at once!" Klaus growled.
"The spell with last as long as the full moon does," Bonnie said.
"What is the purpose of this?" Elijah asked.
"I asked her too," A new voice said.
Bonnie turned around and smiled at Caroline as she entered the room. She didn't realize how much she missed her until now. Caroline tilted Bonnie's head back to examine the bruise on her neck.
"Alex owes you an apology," Caroline stated.
"It's fine," Bonnie shrugged.
"I promise you I would take care of you Bonnie and I will. Now go upstairs and rest, I think me and the Mikaelson's need to have a chat," Caroline said.
Caroline waited until Bonnie was upstairs to face the Originals. "Sorry about the barrier, nothing personal, just a precaution," She shrugged.
"A precaution? For what? To insure we wouldn't kill you?" Kol smirked.
"So are of ourselves, are we Kol?" Caroline asked, coking her head to the side. "We were friends, has that change?"
"I was friend with a vampire who was three centuries old who had an annoying little brother. Not one who was my father's pet,"
Kol spat.
"To be fair, Alex is still annoying, and as for Mikael, I'm not his pet," Caroline said.
"Then what are you?" Rebekah asked.
"Depends who you ask. I've been called his employee, companion, lover, friend, his victim, according to the vampires in Russia I'm his bitch. It's all how you look at it," Caroline shrugged.
"Enough with the small talk, I want to know what the hell is going on," Klaus growled.
Caroline noticed he wouldn't meet her eyes, a sign that he hadn't completely given up on his feelings for her.
"I'm an open book Klaus. If you have a question ask," Caroline said.
"How old are you?" Rebekah asked.
"Nine hundred and forty nine years old," Carolnie said.
"So one of us turned you?" Kol asked.
"Elijah did," Caroline said.
"And you didn't recognize her?" Kol asked.
Elijah opened his mouth to speak, but Caroline interrupted him.
"I can tell this conversation is going to take awhile. so I'll leave you guys to it," She smile.
"No! We are not done with this conversation," Klaus snapped.
"You are right, we are far from it, but I will back. I'm just going to give you guy's time to discuss this. Besides, it'll be easier if Elijah tells his story first. See you soon."
Caroline ignored the shots for her to come back, it would take a long time to tell this story, especially with all the questions the Originals where asking. She would be able to finish her part of the story once Elijah was done with his. It would shorten things up and save a lot of time. Besides, she had a protégé to hunt down.
She went to the first place she thought he might have been. The Salvatore's house. She knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. It opened and the person looked back at her in surprise, but just for a second.
"Caroline Forbes," He grinned.
"Hello Damon," She purred, walking into the house.
"Not that I'm not glad to see you, because trust me, I am. Things are a lot less boring when you're around, but why are you here?" He asked.
"By boring I assume you mean a lot less bloodier?" Caroline grinned, turning to face him.
She went to the first place she though he might have been. The Salvatore's house.
She knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. It opened and
the person looked back at her in surprise, but just for a second.
"You know me so well," Damon said.
"You haven't happened to see my protégé, have you?" She asked.
"You mean lover boy? I didn't know he could function without you by his side," Damon said.
"He won't be functioning for much longer," She said.
"Don't tell me, you're getting rid of him, aren't you?" Damon grinned.
"He betrayed me Damon, something no one gets away with," Caroline said, walking over to him and running her hands up his chest and around his
neck. "Even gorgeous vampires with stunning blue eyes. You wouldn'tbetray me Damon, would you?"
"No," Damon muttered.
"Good," Caroline smiled, and walked away with a smile on her face. He was too easy. A little flirting mixed with intimidation and he was
hooked. Now all she had to do was find Alex, and there was only one other place he would be.
"What happened Elijah?" Rebekah asked quietly.
"Too much my dear sister," Elijah sighed, running his hand over hisface. "I don't even know where to start."
"Why don't you start with why you didn't tell us about her," Kol said.
"I didn't know it was her at first," Elijah said.
"Thanks to your forgetfulness now have our deranged father on ourtrail, only miles away from us," Klaus. "Tell us brother, did you purposely ignore the connection you two had?"
"Do you doubt me that much?" Elijah questioned. "If you recall, as soonas I suspected it was her I did something about it."
"Is that why you compelled her?" Rebekah asked.
"Yes. Even after I compelled her I continued to dig until I was sure ofanything," Elijah said
"How old is she?" Kol asked.
"I'm sure how old she is exactly. I met her shortly after we leftMystic Falls. I had gone back, just out of mere curiosity. I was on my way back when I came across a girl in the woods. She was covered in dirt, mud, blood, her dress was torn, she was obviously hurt, but through it all, she was still beautiful.," Elijah said, smiling at the memory.
"Oh God, please tell me you aren't in love with her," Kol groaned.
"I suppose I am, but in a different way then you mean," Elijah said.
"Then what do you mean?" Rebekah asked.
"She was injured when I found her. The same marks that our father puton Niklaus's body marked her own. They were still fresh, and there where some old ones there as well. She was in so much pain and was going to die, she knew she was going to die, but she still didn't want fought through the pain and instead of letting me help her, she decided she wanted to die. I couldn't understand why someone so young and so... innocent, wanted to die in such a cruel and painful way. I managed to convince her to change her mind, and I fed her my blood and sent her on her way. I tried to forget about it, but I couldn't get her out of my head. I couldn't wrap my mind around how someone like that lost all will to live, and I couldn't live with myself if I didn't try and help her." Elijah said, starring off into space for a second. He shook it off and looked over at Rebekah. "I fell in love with her light, innocence, and how fearless she was. I fell in love with everything she stood for, but I did not fall in love with her."
"That's a truly touching story brother, but I think you're leavingsomething out," Klaus said, pushing himself off the wall.
"Why do you say that?" Kol asked.
"There must be some reason Elijah was so persistent in finding out whoCaroline really was. Do either of you really think it's simply because he is in love with the girl?" Klaus asked.
"Niklaus," Elijah began.
"Are you going to even try to deny it brother? There is another reasonyou where like that," Klaus said.
"Is that true Elijah?" Rebekah asked.
"Yes," Elijah sighed.
"What is it then?" Kol asked.
"After I saved her, I couldn't get her out of my mind, so I went back.I needed to make sure she was alive, I had to know before I drove myself mad," Elijah said.
"So what happened?" Rebekah asked.
"I met her father," Elijah replied.
***FLASHBACK***
Elijah knew he shouldn't be here. He had saved the girl, he should begoing back to Niklaus and Rebekah. But he couldn't let this go. He knew he should, after all, he did what he could. He healed her wounds and sent her away alive, so why couldn't he let this go? He had to know if she was alive. It was a question that was burned into his mind. Was she alive? He had to know.
It was easy to track her down seeing as there was a trail of her blood that she left behind. He tracked it back to a small, isolated cabin in the middle of the woods. He could hear anyone inside the house, it seemed like no one was there, but the unmistakable smell of blood filled Elijah's senses. He followed the smell around the house, praying that it wasn't Caroline he was smelling.
He let out a sigh of relief when he saw it wasn't Caroline. Instead, it was some middle aged man laying on the ground with a knife lodged in his back, a pool of blood surrounding him. Elijah slowly approached him, not wanting to scare the man. He was still alive, but barley. He was not going to live to see daylight, and this time, Elijah did not care.
The man made a low, rumbling sound and moaned in pain. Elijah debated on what to do. There was no point in saving this man, there was no point in doing so. Elijah knew he should just walk away and forget about this entire thing, but he couldn't bring himself to do so. Instead, he crouched beside the dying man.
"Sir?" Elijah questioned.
The man jumped at the new voice, but reacted quickly. "Help," He croaked. "I need help."
"Is your daughter here?" Elijah asked.
"I need help. I'm dying," He said, his breathing picking up, as well as his heart beat. If he didn't calm down, his body would go into over drive and kill him sooner then Elijah would have liked.
"I will help you, but first, where is your daughter?" Elijah asked.
"I don't know, not here. Please," He whimpered.
"Do you know where she went?" Elijah asked.
"He took her," The man whispered.
"Who took her?" Elijah asked, growing angry.
"He never even liked her. Always encouraged me to hurt her, and yet, he took her," The man said almost hysterically.
"Who was the man?" Elijah asked, growing impatient.
"Mikael," The dying man whispered.
***FLASHBACK ENDED***
"And you didn't think to tell us?" Rebekah asked, standing up.
"I'm telling you now Rebekah," Elijah said gently.
"Why didn't you tell us then? You didn't think we would need to know that?" She demanded.
"I didn't think-" Elijah began.
"You didn't think brother, is that it?" Klaus laughed humorlessly. "I suggest you start thinking because look where we ended up. Locked in some witches living room while our father is probably on his way to come kill us."
"We would all be naïve if we blamed this completely on Elijah. After all, we all took part in this as well," Kol said.
"Naïve? Elijah is the one naïve for not telling us of this information," Rebekah screeched.
"He may have been naïve, but so have the rest of us. We befriended them, you and Nik slept with them, all he while Elijah did something none of us thought to do," Kol said.
"And what was that?" Klaus asked sarcastically.
"Look into the two idiots," Kol snapped, standing up to glare at them.
"This isn't Nik's fault, you could have done the same thing and you didn't," Rebekah said.
"You didn't either!" Kol exclaimed.
"How typical of you, always having to go against Nik," Rebekah scolded.
"And you always must stick by his side like a lost little puppy. Grow up Rebekah, your not a little girl anymore, no matter how much you act like one!" Kol hissed.
A full blown argument erupted between the siblings, everyone yelling at anyone. Tensions where defiantly high, and stuck in one room together, war would be declared if someone didn't come and break this up soon.
Alex was on his third drink of the night, and while it probably wasn'tthe smartest thing, he didn't want to stop. He should be out of town by now, but he couldn't find himself able to leave. He had made it a few miles out of Mystic Falls, but stopped. He knew this wasn't what Caroline wanted; she would want him to stay, to fight, to explain himself to her. If he left now, it would make it look like he was hiding something.
Caroline was just too angry right now for him to even talk couldn't be persuaded when she was this angry, so his best bet would be to wait until she calmed down. Then he would go talk to her and explain himself to her, until then he would be here, at the Grill until she was calm. He had plans to drink alone when a vampire slid in the seat next to him.
"Stefan Salvatore, still rocking the hero hair I see," Alex commented.
"I didn't know you guys would be in town," Stefan said.
"I didn't know I had to check in with you," Alex said.
"Is Caroline with you?" Stefan asked.
"Why must you always ask about Caroline? Why does everyone ask about Caroline? Even that dishwasher boy asked about her. No one asks about me," Alex pouted.
"I'm asking because last time she was in town her and Elena didn't get off on the right foot and I want Elena to know she's on town," Stefan said.
"You're still with that doppelganger? How unfortunate," Alex muttered.
"Not really. If you were with anyone you would understand," Stefan said.
"See, that right there is why I like Damon better then you," Alex said.
"Something we can agree on."
Alex closed his eyes as the new person joined the conversation. I will not look, he thought to himself.
"Although I like Damon better for other reasons. He doesn't hide who he is, he is proud and accepts it, but I'm not here to judge you Stefan."
"Then why are you here?" Stefan asked.
"To talk to my protégé, that is if he is done playing these childish games and looks at me.
Alex turned around in his seat slowly and smiled weakly. "Hey."
Caroline didn't say anything, just looked at him.
"I take it you're mad," He said.
"Now why would you say that Alexander?" Caroline questioned.
"Well, for one your using my full name, and also when you're really mad your accent comes out," Alex said.
"Does it really? I never noticed, but I suppose I was always to occupied to notice. Usually when I'm this angry I kill something," She said.
"Well look around, lots of people to choose from," Alex said, spinning around in his chair to eye up what their choices were.
"I'm not looking to kill a human, at least not tonight," Caroline said.
"Oh," Alex said, slumping in his chair while Stefan glanced between the two of them.
"I don't know what's going on between the two of you, but why don't you take it outside where there aren't so many people," Stefan said.
"No, I like it here," Alex said quickly.
"Do you actually think a bunch of humans are going to stop me?" Caroline laughed.
"But I will," Stefan said, squaring up against her. "I said take it outside."
Caroline smiled and walked closer to him. "You don't get to tell me what to do Stefan. This was my home before it was yours, and I will do whatever I please," She said, grabbing his collarbone and popping it out of place. He grunted in pain and gripped her hips to keep himself standing. "Now, be a good boy and leave. I have business to take care of that doesn't involve some righteous vampire." She let him go and he stood up to full height and walked out of the bar, with her watching him the entire time. She only turned her attention back to Alex when Stefan was gone.
When was he going to learn? She thought to herself as she stared at his empty spot. Some people where doomed to repeat the same mistake repeatedly, and apparently Alex was one of those people.
A review would be nice :)
